checkpatch complains about source files with filenames (e.g. in
these cases just below the SPDX header in comments at the top of
various files in fs/cifs). It also is helpful to change this now
so will be less confusing when the parent directory is renamed
e.g. from fs/cifs to fs/smb_client (or fs/smbfs)

strlcpy() reads the entire source buffer first. This read may exceed the
destination size limit. This is both inefficient and can lead to linear
read overflows if a source string is not NUL-terminated.
Also, the strnlen() call does not avoid the read overflow in the strlcpy
function when a not NUL-terminated string is passed.
So, replace this block by a call to kstrndup() that avoids this type of
overflow and does the same.

When converting trailing spaces and periods in paths, do so
for every component of the path, not just the last component.
If the conversion is not done for every path component, then
subsequent operations in directories with trailing spaces or
periods (e.g. create(), mkdir()) will fail with ENOENT. This
is because on the server, the directory will have a special
symbol in its name, and the client needs to provide the same.

When a Mac client saves an item containing a backslash to a file server
the backslash is represented in the CIFS/SMB protocol as as U+F026.
Before this change, listing a directory containing an item with a
backslash in its name will return that item with the backslash
represented with a true backslash character (U+005C) because
convert_sfm_character mapped U+F026 to U+005C when interpretting the
CIFS/SMB protocol response. However, attempting to open or stat the
path using a true backslash will result in an error because
convert_to_sfm_char does not map U+005C back to U+F026 causing the
CIFS/SMB request to be made with the backslash represented as U+005C.
This change simply prevents the U+F026 to U+005C conversion from
happenning. This is analogous to how the code does not do any
translation of UNI_SLASH (U+F000).

Remove the CONFIG_CIFS_SMB2 ifdef and Kconfig option since they
must always be on now.
For various security reasons, SMB3 and later are STRONGLY preferred
over CIFS and older dialects, and SMB3 (and later) will now be
the default dialects so we do not want to allow them to be
ifdeffed out.
In the longer term, we may be able to make older CIFS support
disableable in Kconfig with a new set of #ifdef, but we always
want SMB3 and later support enabled.

This is a bigger patch, but its size is mostly due to
a single change for how we check for remapping illegal characters
in file names - a lot of repeated, small changes to
the way callers request converting file names.
The final patch in the series does the following:
1) changes default behavior for cifs to be more intuitive.
Currently we do not map by default to seven reserved characters,
ie those valid in POSIX but not in NTFS/CIFS/SMB3/Windows,
unless a mount option (mapchars) is specified. Change this
to by default always map and map using the SFM maping
(like the Mac uses) unless the server negotiates the CIFS Unix
Extensions (like Samba does when mounting with the cifs protocol)
when the remapping of the characters is unnecessary. This should
help SMB3 mounts in particular since Samba will likely be
able to implement this mapping with its new "vfs_fruit" module
as it will be doing for the Mac.
2) if the user specifies the existing "mapchars" mount option then
use the "SFU" (Microsoft Services for Unix, SUA) style mapping of
the seven characters instead.
3) if the user specifies "nomapposix" then disable SFM/MAC style mapping
(so no character remapping would be used unless the user specifies
"mapchars" on mount as well, as above).
4) change all the places in the code that check for the superblock
flag on the mount which is set by mapchars and passed in on all
path based operation and change it to use a small function call
instead to set the mapping type properly (and check for the
mapping type in the cifs unicode functions)

This allows directory listings to Mac to display filenames
correctly which have been created with illegal (to Windows)
characters in their filename. It does not allow
converting the other direction yet ie opening files with
these characters (followon patch).
There are seven reserved characters that need to be remapped when
mounting to Windows, Mac (or any server without Unix Extensions) which
are valid in POSIX but not in the other OS.
: \ < > ? * |
We used the normal UCS-2 remap range for this in order to convert this
to/from UTF8 as did Windows Services for Unix (basically add 0xF000 to
any of the 7 reserved characters), at least when the "mapchars" mount
option was specified.
Mac used a very slightly different "Services for Mac" remap range
0xF021 through 0xF027. The attached patch allows cifs.ko (the kernel
client) to read directories on macs containing files with these
characters and display their names properly. In theory this even
might be useful on mounts to Samba when the vfs_catia or new
"vfs_fruit" module is loaded.
Currently the 7 reserved characters look very strange in directory
listings from cifs.ko to Mac server. This patch allows these file
name characters to be read (requires specifying mapchars on mount).
Two additional changes are needed:
1) Make it more automatic: a way of detecting enough info so that
we know to try to always remap these characters or not. Various
have suggested that the SFM approach be made the default when
the server does not support POSIX Unix extensions (cifs mounts
to Samba for example) so need to make SFM remapping the default
unless mapchars (SFU style mapping) specified on mount or no
mapping explicitly requested or no mapping needed (cifs mounts to Samba).
2) Adding a patch to map the characters the other direction
(ie UTF-8 to UCS-2 on open). This patch does it for translating
readdir entries (ie UCS-2 to UTF-8)

option
When we SMB3 mounted with mapchars (to allow reserved characters : \ / > < * ?
via the Unicode Windows to POSIX remap range) empty paths
(eg when we open "" to query the root of the SMB3 directory on mount) were not
null terminated so we sent garbarge as a path name on empty paths which caused
SMB2/SMB2.1/SMB3 mounts to fail when mapchars was specified. mapchars is
particularly important since Unix Extensions for SMB3 are not supported (yet)

As Metze pointed out, commit 84cdf74e broke mapchars option:
Commit "cifs: fix unaligned accesses in cifsConvertToUCS"
(84cdf74e8096a10dd6acbb870dd404b92f07a756) does multiple steps
in just one commit (moving the function and changing it without
testing).
put_unaligned_le16(temp, &target[j]); is never called for any
codepoint the goes via the 'default' switch statement. As a result
we put just zero (or maybe uninitialized) bytes into the target
buffer.
His proposed patch looks correct, but doesn't apply to the current head
of the tree. This patch should also fix it.

Minor revision to the original patch. Don't abuse the __le16 variable
on the stack by casting it to wchar_t and handing it off to char2uni.
Declare an actual wchar_t on the stack instead. This fixes a valid
sparse warning.
Fix the spelling of UNI_ASTERISK. Eliminate the unneeded len_remaining
variable in cifsConvertToUCS.
Also, as David Howells points out. We were better off making
cifsConvertToUCS *not* use put_unaligned_le16 since it means that we
can't optimize the mapped characters at compile time. Switch them
instead to use cpu_to_le16, and simply use put_unaligned to set them
in the string.

implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h
percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.
percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.
http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py
The script does the followings.
* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used,
gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.
* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains
core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
doesn't seem to be any matching order.
* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
file.
The conversion was done in the following steps.
1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400
files.
2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion,
some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added
inclusions to around 150 files.
3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.
4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.
5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h
inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each
slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
necessary.
6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.
7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).
* x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
* powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
* sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
* ia64 SMP allmodconfig
* s390 SMP allmodconfig
* alpha SMP allmodconfig
* um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig
8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
a separate patch and serve as bisection point.
Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.
