2021-04-28ceph: rip out old fscache readpage handlingJeff Layton1-125/+0
With the new netfs read helper functions, we won't need a lot of this infrastructure as it handles the pagecache pages itself. Rip out the read handling for now, and much of the old infrastructure that deals in individual pages. The cookie handling is mostly unchanged, however. 2020-03-30ceph: replace zero-length array with flexible-array memberGustavo A. R. Silva1-1/+1
The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2], introduced in C99: struct foo { int stuff; struct boo array[]; }; By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on. Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by this change: "Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1] This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle. 2019-11-28libceph, rbd, ceph: convert to use the new mount APIDavid Howells1-4/+5
Convert the ceph filesystem to the new internal mount API as the old one will be obsoleted and removed. This allows greater flexibility in communication of mount parameters between userspace, the VFS and the filesystem. See Documentation/filesystems/mount_api.txt for more information. 2018-08-02ceph: use timespec64 for inode timestampArnd Bergmann1-4/+7
Since the vfs structures are all using timespec64, we can now change the internal representation, using ceph_encode_timespec64 and ceph_decode_timespec64. In case of ceph_aux_inode however, we need to avoid doing a memcmp() on uninitialized padding data, so the members of the i_mtime field get copied individually into 64-bit integers. 2018-06-06vfs: change inode times to use struct timespec64Deepa Dinamani1-2/+2
struct timespec is not y2038 safe. Transition vfs to use y2038 safe struct timespec64 instead. The change was made with the help of the following cocinelle script. This catches about 80% of the changes. All the header file and logic changes are included in the first 5 rules. The rest are trivial substitutions. I avoid changing any of the function signatures or any other filesystem specific data structures to keep the patch simple for review. The script can be a little shorter by combining different cases. But, this version was sufficient for my usecase. virtual patch @ depends on patch @ identifier now; @@ - struct timespec + struct timespec64 current_time ( ... ) { - struct timespec now = current_kernel_time(); + struct timespec64 now = current_kernel_time64(); ... - return timespec_trunc( + return timespec64_trunc( ... ); } @ depends on patch @ identifier xtime; @@ struct \( iattr \| inode \| kstat \) { ... - struct timespec xtime; + struct timespec64 xtime; ... } @ depends on patch @ identifier t; @@ struct inode_operations { ... int (*update_time) (..., - struct timespec t, + struct timespec64 t, ...); ... } @ depends on patch @ identifier t; identifier fn_update_time =~ "update_time$"; @@ fn_update_time (..., - struct timespec *t, + struct timespec64 *t, ...) { ... } @ depends on patch @ identifier t; @@ lease_get_mtime( ... , - struct timespec *t + struct timespec64 *t ) { ... } @te depends on patch forall@ identifier ts; local idexpression struct inode *inode_node; identifier i_xtime =~ "^i_[acm]time$"; identifier ia_xtime =~ "^ia_[acm]time$"; identifier fn_update_time =~ "update_time$"; identifier fn; expression e, E3; local idexpression struct inode *node1; local idexpression struct inode *node2; local idexpression struct iattr *attr1; local idexpression struct iattr *attr2; local idexpression struct iattr attr; identifier i_xtime1 =~ "^i_[acm]time$"; identifier i_xtime2 =~ "^i_[acm]time$"; identifier ia_xtime1 =~ "^ia_[acm]time$"; identifier ia_xtime2 =~ "^ia_[acm]time$"; @@ ( ( - struct timespec ts; + struct timespec64 ts; | - struct timespec ts = current_time(inode_node); + struct timespec64 ts = current_time(inode_node); ) <+... when != ts ( - timespec_equal(&inode_node->i_xtime, &ts) + timespec64_equal(&inode_node->i_xtime, &ts) | - timespec_equal(&ts, &inode_node->i_xtime) + timespec64_equal(&ts, &inode_node->i_xtime) | - timespec_compare(&inode_node->i_xtime, &ts) + timespec64_compare(&inode_node->i_xtime, &ts) | - timespec_compare(&ts, &inode_node->i_xtime) + timespec64_compare(&ts, &inode_node->i_xtime) | ts = current_time(e) | fn_update_time(..., &ts,...) | inode_node->i_xtime = ts | node1->i_xtime = ts | ts = inode_node->i_xtime | <+... attr1->ia_xtime ...+> = ts | ts = attr1->ia_xtime | ts.tv_sec | ts.tv_nsec | btrfs_set_stack_timespec_sec(..., ts.tv_sec) | btrfs_set_stack_timespec_nsec(..., ts.tv_nsec) | - ts = timespec64_to_timespec( + ts = ... -) | - ts = ktime_to_timespec( + ts = ktime_to_timespec64( ...) | - ts = E3 + ts = timespec_to_timespec64(E3) | - ktime_get_real_ts(&ts) + ktime_get_real_ts64(&ts) | fn(..., - ts + timespec64_to_timespec(ts) ,...) ) ...+> ( <... when != ts - return ts; + return timespec64_to_timespec(ts); ...> ) | - timespec_equal(&node1->i_xtime1, &node2->i_xtime2) + timespec64_equal(&node1->i_xtime2, &node2->i_xtime2) | - timespec_equal(&node1->i_xtime1, &attr2->ia_xtime2) + timespec64_equal(&node1->i_xtime2, &attr2->ia_xtime2) | - timespec_compare(&node1->i_xtime1, &node2->i_xtime2) + timespec64_compare(&node1->i_xtime1, &node2->i_xtime2) | node1->i_xtime1 = - timespec_trunc(attr1->ia_xtime1, + timespec64_trunc(attr1->ia_xtime1, ...) | - attr1->ia_xtime1 = timespec_trunc(attr2->ia_xtime2, + attr1->ia_xtime1 = timespec64_trunc(attr2->ia_xtime2, ...) | - ktime_get_real_ts(&attr1->ia_xtime1) + ktime_get_real_ts64(&attr1->ia_xtime1) | - ktime_get_real_ts(&attr.ia_xtime1) + ktime_get_real_ts64(&attr.ia_xtime1) ) @ depends on patch @ struct inode *node; struct iattr *attr; identifier fn; identifier i_xtime =~ "^i_[acm]time$"; identifier ia_xtime =~ "^ia_[acm]time$"; expression e; @@ ( - fn(node->i_xtime); + fn(timespec64_to_timespec(node->i_xtime)); | fn(..., - node->i_xtime); + timespec64_to_timespec(node->i_xtime)); | - e = fn(attr->ia_xtime); + e = fn(timespec64_to_timespec(attr->ia_xtime)); ) @ depends on patch forall @ struct inode *node; struct iattr *attr; identifier i_xtime =~ "^i_[acm]time$"; identifier ia_xtime =~ "^ia_[acm]time$"; identifier fn; @@ { + struct timespec ts; <+... 2018-04-06fscache: Pass object size in rather than calling back for itDavid Howells1-17/+9
Pass the object size in to fscache_acquire_cookie() and fscache_write_page() rather than the netfs providing a callback by which it can be received. This makes it easier to update the size of the object when a new page is written that extends the object. The current object size is also passed by fscache to the check_aux function, obviating the need to store it in the aux data. 2018-04-04fscache: Attach the index key and aux data to the cookieDavid Howells1-68/+25
Attach copies of the index key and auxiliary data to the fscache cookie so that: (1) The callbacks to the netfs for this stuff can be eliminated. This can simplify things in the cache as the information is still available, even after the cache has relinquished the cookie. (2) Simplifies the locking requirements of accessing the information as we don't have to worry about the netfs object going away on us. (3) The cache can do lazy updating of the coherency information on disk. As long as the cache is flushed before reboot/poweroff, there's no need to update the coherency info on disk every time it changes. (4) Cookies can be hashed or put in a tree as the index key is easily available. This allows: (a) Checks for duplicate cookies can be made at the top fscache layer rather than down in the bowels of the cache backend. (b) Caching can be added to a netfs object that has a cookie if the cache is brought online after the netfs object is allocated. A certain amount of space is made in the cookie for inline copies of the data, but if it won't fit there, extra memory will be allocated for it. The downside of this is that live cache operation requires more memory. 2017-09-07fscache: remove unused ->now_uncached callbackJan Kara1-31/+0
Patch series "Ranged pagevec lookup", v2. In this series I make pagevec_lookup() update the index (to be consistent with pagevec_lookup_tag() and also as a preparation for ranged lookups), provide ranged variant of pagevec_lookup() and use it in places where it makes sense. This not only removes some common code but is also a measurable performance win for some use cases (see patch 4/10) where radix tree is sparse and searching & grabing of a page after the end of the range has measurable overhead. 2016-06-01ceph: improve fscache revalidationYan, Zheng1-67/+17
There are several issues in fscache revalidation code. - In ceph_revalidate_work(), fscache_invalidate() is called when fscache_check_consistency() return 0. This is complete wrong because 0 means cache is valid. - Handle_cap_grant() calls ceph_queue_revalidate() if client already has CAP_FILE_CACHE. This code is confusing. Client should revalidate the cache each time it got CAP_FILE_CACHE anew. - In Handle_cap_grant(), fscache_invalidate() is called if MDS revokes CAP_FILE_CACHE. This is inconsistency with the case that inode get evicted. In the later case, the cache is not discarded. Client may use the cache when inode is reloaded. This patch moves the fscache revalidation into ceph_get_caps(). Client revalidates the cache after it gets CAP_FILE_CACHE. i_rdcache_gen should keep constance while CAP_FILE_CACHE is used. If i_fscache_gen is not equal to i_rdcache_gen, client needs to check cache's consistency. Signed-off-by: Yan, Zheng <zyan@redhat.com>

The object store limit needs to be updated after writing, and this can be done provided the corresponding object has already been initialized. Current object initialization is done asynchrously, which introduce a race if a file is opened, then immediately followed by a writing, the initialization may have not completed, the code will reach the ASSERT in fscache_submit_exclusive_op() to cause kernel bug. 2013-11-27Merge branch 'for-linus-bugs' of ↵Linus Torvalds1-0/+3
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/sage/ceph-client Pull ceph bug-fixes from Sage Weil: "These include a couple fixes to the new fscache code that went in during the last cycle (which will need to go stable@ shortly as well), a couple client-side directory fragmentation fixes, a fix for a race in the cap release queuing path, and a couple race fixes in the request abort and resend code. Obviously some of this could have gone into 3.12 final, but I preferred to overtest rather than send things in for a late -rc, and then my travel schedule intervened" * 'for-linus-bugs' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/sage/ceph-client: ceph: allocate non-zero page to fscache in readpage() ceph: wake up 'safe' waiters when unregistering request ceph: cleanup aborted requests when re-sending requests. ceph: handle race between cap reconnect and cap release ceph: set caps count after composing cap reconnect message ceph: queue cap release in __ceph_remove_cap() ceph: handle frag mismatch between readdir request and reply ceph: remove outdated frag information ceph: hung on ceph fscache invalidate in some cases
2013-09-27FS-Cache: Provide the ability to enable/disable cookiesDavid Howells1-2/+2
Provide the ability to enable and disable fscache cookies. A disabled cookie will reject or ignore further requests to: Acquire a child cookie Invalidate and update backing objects Check the consistency of a backing object Allocate storage for backing page Read backing pages Write to backing pages but still allows: Checks/waits on the completion of already in-progress objects Uncaching of pages Relinquishment of cookies Two new operations are provided: (1) Disable a cookie: void fscache_disable_cookie(struct fscache_cookie *cookie, bool invalidate); If the cookie is not already disabled, this locks the cookie against other dis/enablement ops, marks the cookie as being disabled, discards or invalidates any backing objects and waits for cessation of activity on any associated object. This is a wrapper around a chunk split out of fscache_relinquish_cookie(), but it reinitialises the cookie such that it can be reenabled. All possible failures are handled internally. The caller should consider calling fscache_uncache_all_inode_pages() afterwards to make sure all page markings are cleared up. (2) Enable a cookie: void fscache_enable_cookie(struct fscache_cookie *cookie, bool (*can_enable)(void *data), void *data) If the cookie is not already enabled, this locks the cookie against other dis/enablement ops, invokes can_enable() and, if the cookie is not an index cookie, will begin the procedure of acquiring backing objects. The optional can_enable() function is passed the data argument and returns a ruling as to whether or not enablement should actually be permitted to begin. All possible failures are handled internally. The cookie will only be marked as enabled if provisional backing objects are allocated. A later patch will introduce these to NFS. Cookie enablement during nfs_open() is then contingent on i_writecount <= 0. can_enable() checks for a race between open(O_RDONLY) and open(O_WRONLY/O_RDWR). This simplifies NFS's cookie handling and allows us to get rid of open(O_RDONLY) accidentally introducing caching to an inode that's open for writing already. One operation has its API modified: (3) Acquire a cookie. struct fscache_cookie *fscache_acquire_cookie( struct fscache_cookie *parent, const struct fscache_cookie_def *def, void *netfs_data, bool enable); This now has an additional argument that indicates whether the requested cookie should be enabled by default. It doesn't need the can_enable() function because the caller must prevent multiple calls for the same netfs object and it doesn't need to take the enablement lock because no one else can get at the cookie before this returns. 2013-09-26ceph: hung on ceph fscache invalidate in some casesMilosz Tanski1-0/+3
In some cases I'm on my ceph client cluster I'm seeing hunk kernel tasks in the invalidate page code path. This is due to the fact that we don't check if the page is marked as cache before calling fscache_wait_on_page_write(). This is the log from the hang INFO: task XXXXXX:12034 blocked for more than 120 seconds. "echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs" disables this message. ... 2013-09-06ceph: trivial buildbot warnings fixMilosz Tanski1-4/+2
The linux-next build bot found a three of warnings, this addresses all of them. * non-ANSI function declaration of function 'ceph_fscache_register' and 'ceph_fscache_unregister' * symbol 'ceph_cache_netfs' was not declared, now it's extern in the header. * warning: "pr_fmt" redefined Signed-off-by: Milosz Tanski <milosz@adfin.com>
2013-09-06ceph: Do not do invalidate if the filesystem is mounted nofscMilosz Tanski1-0/+4
Previously we would always try to enqueue work even if the filesystem is not mounted with fscache enabled (or the file has no cookie). In the case of the filesystem mouned nofsc (but with fscache compiled in) this would lead to a crash. Signed-off-by: Milosz Tanski <milosz@adfin.com>

2013-09-06ceph: use fscache as a local presisent cacheMilosz Tanski1-0/+393
Adding support for fscache to the Ceph filesystem. This would bring it to on par with some of the other network filesystems in Linux (like NFS, AFS, etc...) In order to mount the filesystem with fscache the 'fsc' mount option must be passed. Signed-off-by: Milosz Tanski <milosz@adfin.com> Signed-off-by: Sage Weil <sage@inktank.com>
