2013-03-08ixgbevf: Make next_to_watch a pointer and adjust memory barriers to avoid racesAlexander Duyck2-33/+40
This change is meant to address several race issues that become possible because next_to_watch could possibly be set to a value that shows that the descriptor is done when it is not. In order to correct that we instead make next_to_watch a pointer that is set to NULL during cleanup, and set to the eop_desc after the descriptor rings have been written. To enforce proper ordering the next_to_watch pointer is not set until after a wmb writing the values to the last descriptor in a transmit. In order to guarantee that the descriptor is not read until after the eop_desc we use the read_barrier_depends which is only really necessary on the alpha architecture. 2013-03-08tg3: Cleanup firmware parsing codeNithin Sujir2-36/+34
The current firmware header parsing is complicated due to interpreting it as a u32 array and accessing header members via array offsets. Add tg3_firmware_hdr structure to access the firmware fields instead of hardcoding offsets. The same header format will be used for individual firmware fragments in the 57766. The fw_hdr and tg3 structures have all the information required for loading the fw. Remove the redundant fw_info structure and pass fw_hdr instead. The 57766 rxcpu needs to be paused/resumed when we download the firmware just like we do for existing firmware. Refactor the pause/resume code to be reusable. This patch also renames the "offset" argument of tg3_halt_cpu to "cpu_base" since that's what it really is. 2013-03-08tg3: Add new FW_TSO flagMatt Carlson2-8/+8
tg3 used the fw_needed member loosely as a synonym for firmware TSO. Now that the 57766 needs firmware download support, fw_needed can no longer be used like this. This patch creates a new FW_TSO flag and changes the code to use it. Also rearrange all the TSO flags together in the enum. BQL (Byte Queue Limits) proper operation needs TX completion being serviced in a timely fashion. bnx2x uses a non standard NAPI poll weight, and thats not fair to other napi poll handlers, and even not reasonable. 2013-03-05hw_random: make buffer usable in scatterlist.Rusty Russell1-3/+16
virtio_rng feeds the randomness buffer handed by the core directly into the scatterlist, since commit bb347d98079a547e80bd4722dee1de61e4dca0e8. However, if CONFIG_HW_RANDOM=m, the static buffer isn't a linear address (at least on most archs). We could fix this in virtio_rng, but it's actually far easier to just do it in the core as virtio_rng would have to allocate a buffer every time (it doesn't know how much the core will want to read). This is a resubmission. Added kfree() in ax88179_get_eeprom to prevent memory leakage. Modified "__le16 rxctl" to "u16 rxctl" in "struct ax88179_data" and removed pointless casts. Removed asix_init and asix_exit functions and added "module_usb_driver(ax88179_178a_driver)". Fixed endianness issue on big endian systems and verified this driver on iBook G4. Removed steps that change net->features in ax88179_set_features function. Added "const" to ethtool_ops structure and fixed the coding style of AX88179_BULKIN_SIZE array. Fixed the issue that the default MTU is not 1500. Added ax88179_change_mtu function and enabled the hardware jumbo frame function to support an MTU higher than 1500. Fixed indentation and empty line coding style errors. The _nopm version usb functions were added to access register in suspend and resume functions. Serveral variables allocted dynamically were removed and replaced by stack variables. ax88179_get_eeprom were modified from asix_get_eeprom in asix_common. This patch adds a driver for ASIX's AX88179 family of USB 3.0/2.0 to gigabit ethernet adapters. It's based on the AX88xxx driver but the usb commands used to access registers for AX88179 are completely different.
