'dcbz' instruction is used by memset() to zeroize a complete cacheline at once, and memset() is not expected to be used on non cached memory. A fb_ioctl() FBIOPUT_VSCREENINFO call with invalid xres setting or yres setting in struct fb_var_screeninfo will result in a KASAN: vmalloc-out-of-bounds failure in bitfill_aligned() as the margins are being cleared. The margins are cleared in chunks and if the xres setting or yres setting is a value of zero upto the chunk size, the failure will occur. Add a margin check to validate xres and yres settings. 2021-05-26video: hgafb: correctly handle card detect failure during probeAnirudh Rayabharam1-1/+1
commit 02625c965239b71869326dd0461615f27307ecb3 upstream. The return value of hga_card_detect() is not properly handled causing the probe to succeed even though hga_card_detect() failed. Since probe succeeds, hgafb_open() can be called which will end up operating on an unmapped hga_vram. This results in an out-of-bounds access as reported by kernel test robot [1]. To fix this, correctly detect failure of hga_card_detect() by checking for a non-zero error code. Because of recent interactions with developers from @umn.edu, all commits from them have been recently re-reviewed to ensure if they were correct or not. Upon review, this commit was found to be incorrect for the reasons below, so it must be reverted. It will be fixed up "correctly" in a later kernel change. The original commit here, while technically correct, did not fully handle all of the reported issues that the commit stated it was fixing, so revert it until it can be "fixed" fully. Note, ioremap() probably will never fail for old hardware like this, and if anyone actually used this hardware (a PowerMac era PCI display card), they would not be using fbdev anymore. Because of recent interactions with developers from @umn.edu, all commits from them have been recently re-reviewed to ensure if they were correct or not. Upon review, this commit was found to be incorrect for the reasons below, so it must be reverted. It will be fixed up "correctly" in a later kernel change. This patch "looks" correct, but the driver keeps on running and will fail horribly right afterward if this error condition ever trips. So points for trying to resolve an issue, but a huge NEGATIVE value for providing a "fake" fix for the problem as nothing actually got resolved at all. I'll go fix this up properly... 2021-01-12video: hyperv_fb: Fix the mmap() regression for v5.4.y and olderDexuan Cui1-4/+2
db49200b1dad is backported from the mainline commit 5f1251a48c17 ("video: hyperv_fb: Fix the cache type when mapping the VRAM"), to v5.4.y and older stable branches, but unluckily db49200b1dad causes mmap() to fail for /dev/fb0 due to EINVAL: [ 5797.049560] x86/PAT: a.out:1910 map pfn expected mapping type uncached-minus for [mem 0xf8200000-0xf85cbfff], got write-back This means the v5.4.y kernel detects an incompatibility issue about the mapping type of the VRAM: db49200b1dad changes to use Write-Back when mapping the VRAM, while the mmap() syscall tries to use Uncached-minus. That’s to say, the kernel thinks Uncached-minus is incompatible with Write-Back: see drivers/video/fbdev/core/fbmem.c: fb_mmap() -> vm_iomap_memory() -> io_remap_pfn_range() -> ... -> track_pfn_remap() -> reserve_pfn_range(). Note: any v5.5 and newer kernel doesn't have the issue, because they have commit d21987d709e8 ("video: hyperv: hyperv_fb: Support deferred IO for Hyper-V frame buffer driver") , and when the hyperv_fb driver has the deferred_io support, fb_deferred_io_init() overrides info->fbops->fb_mmap with fb_deferred_io_mmap(), which doesn’t check the mapping type incompatibility. Note: since it's VRAM here, the checking is not really necessary. Fix the regression by ioremap_wc(), which uses Write-combining. The kernel thinks it's compatible with Uncached-minus. The VRAM mappped by ioremap_wc() is slightly slower than mapped by ioremap_cache(), but is still significantly faster than by ioremap(). Change the comment accordingly. Linux VM on ARM64 Hyper-V is still not working in the latest mainline yet, and when it works in future, the ARM64 support is unlikely to be backported to v5.4 and older, so using ioremap_wc() in v5.4 and older should be ok. [ Upstream commit 5f1251a48c17b54939d7477305e39679a565382c ] x86 Hyper-V used to essentially always overwrite the effective cache type of guest memory accesses to WB. This was problematic in cases where there is a physical device assigned to the VM, since that often requires that the VM should have control over cache types. Thus, on newer Hyper-V since 2018, Hyper-V always honors the VM's cache type, but unexpectedly Linux VM users start to complain that Linux VM's VRAM becomes very slow, and it turns out that Linux VM should not map the VRAM uncacheable by ioremap(). Fix this slowness issue by using ioremap_cache(). On ARM64, ioremap_cache() is also required as the host also maps the VRAM cacheable, otherwise VM Connect can't display properly with ioremap() or ioremap_wc(). With this change, the VRAM on new Hyper-V is as fast as regular RAM, so it's no longer necessary to use the hacks we added to mitigate the slowness, i.e. we no longer need to allocate physical memory and use it to back up the VRAM in Generation-1 VM, and we also no longer need to allocate physical memory to back up the framebuffer in a Generation-2 VM and copy the framebuffer to the real VRAM. A further big change will address these for v5.11. 2020-08-26omapfb: dss: Fix max fclk divider for omap36xxAdam Ford1-1/+1
There appears to be a timing issue where using a divider of 32 breaks the DSS for OMAP36xx despite the TRM stating 32 is a valid number. Through experimentation, it appears that 31 works. This same fix was issued for kernels 4.5+. However, between kernels 4.4 and 4.5, the directory structure was changed when the dss directory was moved inside the omapfb directory. That broke the patch on kernels older than 4.5, because it didn't permit the patch to apply cleanly for 4.4 and older. A similar patch was applied to the 3.16 kernel already, but not to 4.4. Commit 4b911101a5cd ("drm/omap: fix max fclk divider for omap36xx") is on the 3.16 stable branch with notes from Ben about the path change. Since this was applied for 3.16 already, this patch is for kernels 3.17 through 4.4 only. There it does not free the memory and returns -1. neofb_probe() goes to label err_scan_monitor, thus, it does not free this memory through calling fb_destroy_modedb() as well. We can not go to label err_init_hw since neo_scan_monitor() can fail during memory allocation. So, the patch frees the memory directly for case 0x03. A fallthrough in switch/case was introduced in f627caf55b8e ("fbdev: sm712fb: fix crashes and garbled display during DPMS modesetting"), due to my copy-paste error, which would cause the memory clock frequency for SM720 to be programmed to SM712. Since it only reprograms the clock to a different frequency, it's only a benign issue without visible side-effect, so it also evaded Sudip Mukherjee's code review and regression tests. scripts/checkpatch.pl also failed to discover the issue, possibly due to nested switch statements. This issue was found by Stephen Rothwell by building linux-next with -Wimplicit-fallthrough. On a Thinkpad s30 (Pentium III / i440MX, Lynx3DM), blanking the display or starting the X server will crash and freeze the system, or garble the display. Experiments showed this problem can mostly be solved by adjusting the order of register writes. Also, sm712fb failed to consider the difference of clock frequency when unblanking the display, and programs the clock for SM712 to SM720. Fix them by adjusting the order of register writes, and adding an additional check for SM720 for programming the clock frequency. 2019-06-11fbdev: sm712fb: use 1024x768 by default on non-MIPS, fix garbled displayYifeng Li2-16/+44

Loongson MIPS netbooks use 1024x600 LCD panels, which is the original target platform of this driver, but nearly all old x86 laptops have 1024x768. Lighting 768 panels using 600's timings would partially garble the display. Since it's not possible to distinguish them reliably, we change the default to 768, but keep 600 as-is on MIPS. Further, earlier laptops, such as IBM Thinkpad 240X, has a 800x600 LCD panel, this driver would probably garbled those display. As we don't have one for testing, the original behavior of the driver is kept as-is, but the problem has been documented is the comments. In order to support the 1024x600 panel on Yeeloong Loongson MIPS laptop, the original 1024x768-16 table was modified to 1024x600-16, without leaving the original. 2019-06-11fbdev: sm712fb: fix crashes during framebuffer writes by correctly mapping VRAMYifeng Li2-9/+44

On a Thinkpad s30 (Pentium III / i440MX, Lynx3DM), running fbtest or X will crash the machine instantly, because the VRAM/framebuffer is not mapped correctly. On SM712, the framebuffer starts at the beginning of address space, but SM720's framebuffer starts at the 1 MiB offset from the beginning. However, sm712fb fails to take this into account, as a result, writing to the framebuffer will destroy all the registers and kill the system immediately. Another problem is the driver assumes 8 MiB of VRAM for SM720, but some SM720 system, such as this IBM Thinkpad, only has 4 MiB of VRAM. Fix this problem by removing the hardcoded VRAM size, adding a function to query the amount of VRAM from register MCR76 on SM720, and adding proper framebuffer offset. Please note that the memory map may have additional problems on Big-Endian system, which is not available for testing by myself. But I highly suspect that the original code is also broken on Big-Endian machines for SM720, so at least we are not making the problem worse. More, the driver also assumed SM710/SM712 has 4 MiB of VRAM, but it has a 2 MiB version as well, and used in earlier laptops, such as IBM Thinkpad 240X, the driver would probably crash on them. I've never seen one of those machines and cannot fix it, but I have documented these problems in the comments. 2019-06-11fbdev: sm712fb: fix boot screen glitch when sm712fb replaces VGAYifeng Li1-1/+5

To prevent it from happening, we first clear the entire framebuffer, and we also need to stop calling smtcfb_setmode() during initialization, the fbdev layer will call it for us later when it's ready. On a Thinkpad s30 (Pentium III / i440MX, Lynx3DM), rebooting with sm712fb framebuffer driver would cause a white screen of death on the next POST, presumably the proper timings for the LCD panel was not reprogrammed properly by the BIOS. Experiments showed a few CRTC Scratch Registers, including CRT3D, CRT3E and CRT3F may be used internally by BIOS as some flags. CRT3B is a hardware testing register, we shouldn't mess with it. CRT3C has blanking signal and line compare control, which is not needed for this driver. Stop writing to CR3B-CR3F (a.k.a CRT3B-CRT3F) registers. Even if these registers don't have side-effect on other systems, writing to them is also highly questionable. This is because sm712fb overwrites the GPR71 Scratch Pad Register, which is set by BIOS on x86 and used to indicate amount of VRAM. Other Scratch Pad Registers, including GPR70/74/75, don't have the same side-effect, but overwriting to them is still questionable, as they are not related to modesetting. On a Thinkpad s30 (Pentium III / i440MX, Lynx3DM), rebooting with sm712fb framebuffer driver would cause the role of brightness up/down button to swap. Experiments showed the FPR30 register caused this behavior. Moreover, even if this register don't have side-effect on other systems, over- writing it is also highly questionable, since it was originally configurated by the motherboard manufacturer by hardwiring pull-down resistors to indicate the type of LCD panel. For the bootup logo, there is protection so that blitting does not happen as the image is drawn further and further to the right (ROTATE_UR) or further and further down (ROTATE_CW). There is however no protection when drawing in the opposite directions (ROTATE_UD and ROTATE_CCW). Add back this protection. The regression is 20-odd years old but the mindless warning-killing mentality displayed in commit 34bdb666f4b2 ("fbdev: fbmem: remove positive test on unsigned values") is also to blame, methinks.
