2019-07-10usb: gadget: udc: lpc32xx: allocate descriptor with GFP_ATOMICAlexandre Belloni1-2/+1
[ Upstream commit fbc318afadd6e7ae2252d6158cf7d0c5a2132f7d ] Gadget drivers may queue request in interrupt context. This would lead to a descriptor allocation in that context. In that case we would hit BUG_ON(in_interrupt()) in __get_vm_area_node. Also remove the unnecessary cast. 2019-07-10usb: chipidea: udc: workaround for endpoint conflict issuePeter Chen1-0/+20
commit c19dffc0a9511a7d7493ec21019aefd97e9a111b upstream. An endpoint conflict occurs when the USB is working in device mode during an isochronous communication. When the endpointA IN direction is an isochronous IN endpoint, and the host sends an IN token to endpointA on another device, then the OUT transaction may be missed regardless the OUT endpoint number. Generally, this occurs when the device is connected to the host through a hub and other devices are connected to the same hub. The affected OUT endpoint can be either control, bulk, isochronous, or an interrupt endpoint. After the OUT endpoint is primed, if an IN token to the same endpoint number on another device is received, then the OUT endpoint may be unprimed (cannot be detected by software), which causes this endpoint to no longer respond to the host OUT token, and thus, no corresponding interrupt occurs. There is no good workaround for this issue, the only thing the software could do is numbering isochronous IN from the highest endpoint since we have observed most of device number endpoint from the lowest. 2019-06-11xhci: Convert xhci_handshake() to use readl_poll_timeout_atomic()Andrey Smirnov1-12/+10
commit f7fac17ca925faa03fc5eb854c081a24075f8bad upstream. Xhci_handshake() implements the algorithm already captured by readl_poll_timeout_atomic(). Convert the former to use the latter to avoid repetition. Turned out this patch also fixes a bug on the AMD Stoneyridge platform where usleep(1) sometimes takes over 10ms. This means a 5 second timeout can easily take over 15 seconds which will trigger the watchdog and reboot the system. 2019-06-11USB: core: Don't unbind interfaces following device reset failureAlan Stern1-1/+4
[ Upstream commit 381419fa720060ba48b7bbc483be787d5b1dca6f ] The SCSI core does not like to have devices or hosts unregistered while error recovery is in progress. Trying to do so can lead to self-deadlock: Part of the removal code tries to obtain a lock already held by the error handler. This can cause problems for the usb-storage and uas drivers, because their error handler routines perform a USB reset, and if the reset fails then the USB core automatically goes on to unbind all drivers from the device's interfaces -- all while still in the context of the SCSI error handler. As it turns out, practically all the scenarios leading to a USB reset failure end up causing a device disconnect (the main error pathway in usb_reset_and_verify_device(), at the end of the routine, calls hub_port_logical_disconnect() before returning). As a result, the hub_wq thread will soon become aware of the problem and will unbind all the device's drivers in its own context, not in the error-handler's context. This means that usb_reset_device() does not need to call usb_unbind_and_rebind_marked_interfaces() in cases where usb_reset_and_verify_device() has returned an error, because hub_wq will take care of everything anyway. This particular problem was observed in somewhat artificial circumstances, by using usbfs to tell a hub to power-down a port connected to a USB-3 mass storage device using the UAS protocol. With the port turned off, the currently executing command timed out and the error handler started running. The USB reset naturally failed, because the hub port was off, and the error handler deadlocked as described above. Not carrying out the call to usb_unbind_and_rebind_marked_interfaces() fixes this issue. [ Upstream commit 3f5edd58d040bfa4b74fb89bc02f0bc6b9cd06ab ] Fix two long-standing bugs which could potentially lead to memory corruption or leave the port throttled until it is reopened (on weakly ordered systems), respectively, when read-URB completion races with unthrottle(). First, the URB must not be marked as free before processing is complete to prevent it from being submitted by unthrottle() on another CPU. CPU 1 CPU 2 ================ ================ complete() unthrottle() process_urb(); smp_mb__before_atomic(); set_bit(i, free); if (test_and_clear_bit(i, free)) submit_urb(); Second, the URB must be marked as free before checking the throttled flag to prevent unthrottle() on another CPU from failing to observe that the URB needs to be submitted if complete() sees that the throttled flag is set. CPU 1 CPU 2 ================ ================ complete() unthrottle() set_bit(i, free); throttled = 0; smp_mb__after_atomic(); smp_mb(); if (throttled) if (test_and_clear_bit(i, free)) return; submit_urb(); Note that test_and_clear_bit() only implies barriers when the test is successful. 2019-05-16usb: usbip: fix isoc packet num validation in get_pipeMalte Leip2-15/+10
commit c409ca3be3c6ff3a1eeb303b191184e80d412862 upstream. Backport of the upstream commit, which fixed c6688ef9f297. c6688ef9f297 got backported as commit b6f826ba10dc, as the unavailable function usb_endpoint_maxp_mult had to be replaced. The upstream commit removed the call to this function, so the backport is straightforward. Original commit message: Change the validation of number_of_packets in get_pipe to compare the number of packets to a fixed maximum number of packets allowed, set to be 1024. This number was chosen due to it being used by other drivers as well, for example drivers/usb/host/uhci-q.c Background/reason: The get_pipe function in stub_rx.c validates the number of packets in isochronous mode and aborts with an error if that number is too large, in order to prevent malicious input from possibly triggering large memory allocations. This was previously done by checking whether pdu->u.cmd_submit.number_of_packets is bigger than the number of packets that would be needed for pdu->u.cmd_submit.transfer_buffer_length bytes if all except possibly the last packet had maximum length, given by usb_endpoint_maxp(epd) * usb_endpoint_maxp_mult(epd). This leads to an error if URBs with packets shorter than the maximum possible length are submitted, which is allowed according to Documentation/driver-api/usb/URB.rst and occurs for example with the snd-usb-audio driver. 2019-05-16USB: core: Fix bug caused by duplicate interface PM usage counterAlan Stern2-21/+5
commit c2b71462d294cf517a0bc6e4fd6424d7cee5596f upstream. The syzkaller fuzzer reported a bug in the USB hub driver which turned out to be caused by a negative runtime-PM usage counter. This allowed a hub to be runtime suspended at a time when the driver did not expect it. The symptom is a WARNING issued because the hub's status URB is submitted while it is already active: URB 0000000031fb463e submitted while active WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 2917 at drivers/usb/core/urb.c:363 The negative runtime-PM usage count was caused by an unfortunate design decision made when runtime PM was first implemented for USB. At that time, USB class drivers were allowed to unbind from their interfaces without balancing the usage counter (i.e., leaving it with a positive count). The core code would take care of setting the counter back to 0 before allowing another driver to bind to the interface. Later on when runtime PM was implemented for the entire kernel, the opposite decision was made: Drivers were required to balance their runtime-PM get and put calls. In order to maintain backward compatibility, however, the USB subsystem adapted to the new implementation by keeping an independent usage counter for each interface and using it to automatically adjust the normal usage counter back to 0 whenever a driver was unbound. This approach involves duplicating information, but what is worse, it doesn't work properly in cases where a USB class driver delays decrementing the usage counter until after the driver's disconnect() routine has returned and the counter has been adjusted back to 0. Doing so would cause the usage counter to become negative. There's even a warning about this in the USB power management documentation! As it happens, this is exactly what the hub driver does. The kick_hub_wq() routine increments the runtime-PM usage counter, and the corresponding decrement is carried out by hub_event() in the context of the hub_wq work-queue thread. This work routine may sometimes run after the driver has been unbound from its interface, and when it does it causes the usage counter to go negative. It is not possible for hub_disconnect() to wait for a pending hub_event() call to finish, because hub_disconnect() is called with the device lock held and hub_event() acquires that lock. The only feasible fix is to reverse the original design decision: remove the duplicate interface-specific usage counter and require USB drivers to balance their runtime PM gets and puts. As far as I know, all existing drivers currently do this. 2019-05-16USB: core: Fix unterminated string returned by usb_string()Alan Stern1-1/+3
commit c01c348ecdc66085e44912c97368809612231520 upstream. Some drivers (such as the vub300 MMC driver) expect usb_string() to return a properly NUL-terminated string, even when an error occurs. (In fact, vub300's probe routine doesn't bother to check the return code from usb_string().) When the driver goes on to use an unterminated string, it leads to kernel errors such as stack-out-of-bounds, as found by the syzkaller USB fuzzer. An out-of-range string index argument is not at all unlikely, given that some devices don't provide string descriptors and therefore list 0 as the value for their string indexes. This patch makes usb_string() return a properly terminated empty string along with the -EINVAL error code when an out-of-range index is encountered. And since a USB string index is a single-byte value, indexes >= 256 are just as invalid as values of 0 or below. 2019-05-16USB: yurex: Fix protection fault after device removalAlan Stern1-0/+1
commit ef61eb43ada6c1d6b94668f0f514e4c268093ff3 upstream. The syzkaller USB fuzzer found a general-protection-fault bug in the yurex driver. The fault occurs when a device has been unplugged; the driver's interrupt-URB handler logs an error message referring to the device by name, after the device has been unregistered and its name deallocated. This problem is caused by the fact that the interrupt URB isn't cancelled until the driver's private data structure is released, which can happen long after the device is gone. The cure is to make sure that the interrupt URB is killed before yurex_disconnect() returns; this is exactly the sort of thing that usb_poison_urb() was meant for. 2019-05-16usb: gadget: net2280: Fix overrun of OUT messagesGuido Kiener1-3/+1
[ Upstream commit 9d6a54c1430647355a5e23434881b2ca3d192b48 ] The OUT endpoint normally blocks (NAK) subsequent packets when a short packet was received and returns an incomplete queue entry to the gadget driver. Thereby the gadget driver can detect a short packet when reading queue entries with a length that is not equal to a multiple of packet size. The start_queue() function enables receiving OUT packets regardless of the content of the OUT FIFO. This results in a race: With the current code, it's possible that the "!ep->is_in && (readl(&ep->regs->ep_stat) & BIT(NAK_OUT_PACKETS))" test in start_dma() will fail, then a short packet will be received, and then start_queue() will call stop_out_naking(). That's what we don't want (OUT naking gets turned off while there is data in the FIFO) because then the next driver request might receive a mixture of old and new packets. With the patch, this race can't occur because the FIFO's state is tested after we know that OUT naking is already turned on, and OUT naking is stopped only when both of the conditions are met. This ensures that all received data is delivered to the gadget driver, which can detect a short packet now before new packets are appended to the last short packet. 2019-04-27usb: chipidea: Grab the (legacy) USB PHY by phandle firstPaul Kocialkowski1-1/+8
[ Upstream commit 68ef236274793066b9ba3154b16c0acc1c891e5c ] According to the chipidea driver bindings, the USB PHY is specified via the "phys" phandle node. However, this only takes effect for USB PHYs that use the common PHY framework. For legacy USB PHYs, a simple lookup based on the USB PHY type is done instead. This does not play out well when more than one USB PHY is registered, since the first registered PHY matching the type will always be returned regardless of what the driver was bound to. Fix this by looking up the PHY based on the "phys" phandle node. Although generic PHYs are rather matched by their "phys-name" and not the "phys" phandle directly, there is no helper for similar lookup on legacy PHYs and it's probably not worth the effort to add it. When no legacy USB PHY is found by phandle, fallback to grabbing any registered USB2 PHY. This ensures backward compatibility if some users were actually relying on this mechanism. [ Upstream commit 207707d8fd48ebc977fb2b2794004a020e1ee08e ] When rndis data transfer is in progress, some Windows7 Host PC is not sending the GET_ENCAPSULATED_RESPONSE command for receiving the response for the previous SEND_ENCAPSULATED_COMMAND processed. The rndis function driver appends each response for the SEND_ENCAPSULATED_COMMAND in a queue. As the above process got corrupted, the Host sends a REMOTE_NDIS_RESET_MSG command to do a soft-reset. As the rndis response queue is not freed, the previous response is sent as a part of this REMOTE_NDIS_RESET_MSG's reset response and the Host block any more Rndis transfers. Hence free the rndis response queue as a part of this soft-reset so that the correct response for REMOTE_NDIS_RESET_MSG is sent properly during the response command. 2019-04-03usb: gadget: Add the gserial port checking in gs_start_tx()Baolin Wang1-1/+6
commit 511a36d2f357724312bb3776d2f6eed3890928b2 upstream. When usb gadget is set gadget serial function, it will be crash in below situation. It will clean the 'port->port_usb' pointer in gserial_disconnect() function when usb link is inactive, but it will release lock for disabling the endpoints in this function. Druing the lock release period, it maybe complete one request to issue gs_write_complete()--->gs_start_tx() function, but the 'port->port_usb' pointer had been set NULL, thus it will be crash in gs_start_tx() function. This patch adds the 'port->port_usb' pointer checking in gs_start_tx() function to avoid this situation. 2019-03-23usb: gadget: Potential NULL dereference on allocation errorDan Carpenter1-1/+1
[ Upstream commit df28169e1538e4a8bcd8b779b043e5aa6524545c ] The source_sink_alloc_func() function is supposed to return error pointers on error. The function is called from usb_get_function() which doesn't check for NULL returns so it would result in an Oops. Of course, in the current kernel, small allocations always succeed so this doesn't affect runtime.
