2026-07-18USB: misc: uss720: unregister parport on probe failureMyeonghun Pak1-1/+4
commit b4ecbdc4f8830f5586c4a5cfc384c00f20f8f8b3 upstream. uss720_probe() registers a parport before reading the 1284 register used to detect unsupported Belkin F5U002 adapters. If get_1284_register() fails, the error path drops the driver private data and the USB device reference, but leaves the parport device registered. Leaving the port registered is more than a private allocation leak: parport_register_port() has already reserved a parport number and registered the parport bus device, while pp->private_data still points at the private data that the common error path is about to release. Undo the pre-announce registration in the get_1284_register() failure branch before jumping to the common private-data cleanup path. Clear priv->pp first, matching the disconnect path and avoiding a stale pointer in the private data. This issue was identified during our ongoing static-analysis research while reviewing kernel code. 2026-07-18usb: misc: usbio: bound bulk IN response length to the received transferHE WEI (ギカク)1-0/+4
commit 8c6314489550fa81d41723a0ff33f655b5b6c7b6 upstream. usbio_bulk_msg() copies bpkt_len = le16_to_cpu(bpkt->len) bytes out of the bulk IN buffer (usbio->rxbuf, allocated with size usbio->rxbuf_len) into the caller's buffer. bpkt_len is fully controlled by the device and is only checked against ibuf_len; ibuf_len in turn is checked against usbio->txbuf_len, not against rxbuf_len: if ((obuf_len > (usbio->txbuf_len - sizeof(*bpkt))) || (ibuf_len > (usbio->txbuf_len - sizeof(*bpkt)))) return -EMSGSIZE; txbuf_len and rxbuf_len are taken independently from the bulk OUT and bulk IN endpoint wMaxPacketSize in usbio_probe(). A malicious or malfunctioning device that advertises a large bulk OUT endpoint and a small bulk IN endpoint (e.g. by claiming one of the quirk-free IDs such as the Lattice NX33U, 0x2ac1:0x20cb) therefore makes ibuf_len, and hence the device-supplied bpkt_len, exceed rxbuf_len. memcpy() then reads up to txbuf_len - rxbuf_len bytes past the end of the rxbuf slab object. The over-read bytes are handed back to the i2c layer and on to user space through i2c-dev, disclosing adjacent slab memory; with KASAN this is reported as a slab-out-of-bounds read. The number of bytes actually received is already known: act equals the URB actual_length and is bounded by rxbuf_len. Reject any response that claims more payload than was received, mirroring the existing "act < sizeof(*bpkt)" check just above. The control path (usbio_ctrl_msg()) is not affected: it uses a single buffer (ctrlbuf) for both directions, so its analogous copy can never leave the allocation. Found by code review. The out-of-bounds read was confirmed under AddressSanitizer with a faithful userspace model of usbio_bulk_msg()'s receive path (an rxbuf_len-sized buffer, the same act/ibuf_len/bpkt_len checks and the memcpy). A USB raw-gadget + dummy_hcd reproducer is also available. 2026-07-18usb: misc: usbio: fix disconnect UAF in client teardownCen Zhang1-2/+2
commit 0bfeec21984fedd32987f4e4c0cde34b445af404 upstream. usbio_disconnect() walks usbio->cli_list in reverse and uninitializes each auxiliary device. auxiliary_device_uninit() drops the device reference, and for an unbound child that can run usbio_auxdev_release() and free the containing struct usbio_client. list_for_each_entry_reverse() advances after the loop body by reading client->link.prev. If the current client is freed by auxiliary_device_uninit(), the iterator dereferences freed memory. Use list_for_each_entry_safe_reverse() so the previous client is cached before the body can drop the final reference. This preserves reverse teardown order while keeping the next iterator cursor independent of the current client's lifetime. Validation reproduced this kernel report: BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in usbio_disconnect+0x12e/0x150 Call Trace: <TASK> dump_stack_lvl+0x66/0xa0 print_report+0xce/0x630 ? usbio_disconnect+0x12e/0x150 ? srso_alias_return_thunk+0x5/0xfbef5 ? __virt_addr_valid+0x188/0x320 ? usbio_disconnect+0x12e/0x150 kasan_report+0xe0/0x110 ? usbio_disconnect+0x12e/0x150 usbio_disconnect+0x12e/0x150 usb_unbind_interface+0xf3/0x400 really_probe+0x316/0x660 __driver_probe_device+0x106/0x240 driver_probe_device+0x4a/0x110 __device_attach_driver+0xf1/0x1a0 ? __pfx___device_attach_driver+0x10/0x10 bus_for_each_drv+0xf9/0x160 ? __pfx_bus_for_each_drv+0x10/0x10 ? srso_alias_return_thunk+0x5/0xfbef5 ? trace_hardirqs_on+0x18/0x130 ? srso_alias_return_thunk+0x5/0xfbef5 ? _raw_spin_unlock_irqrestore+0x44/0x60 __device_attach+0x133/0x2a0 ? __pfx___device_attach+0x10/0x10 ? srso_alias_return_thunk+0x5/0xfbef5 ? do_raw_spin_unlock+0x9a/0x100 ? srso_alias_return_thunk+0x5/0xfbef5 device_initial_probe+0x55/0x70 bus_probe_device+0x4a/0xd0 device_add+0x9b9/0xc10 ? __pfx_device_add+0x10/0x10 ? _raw_spin_unlock_irqrestore+0x44/0x60 ? srso_alias_return_thunk+0x5/0xfbef5 ? lockdep_hardirqs_on_prepare+0xea/0x1a0 ? srso_alias_return_thunk+0x5/0xfbef5 ? usb_enable_lpm+0x3c/0x260 usb_set_configuration+0xb64/0xf20 usb_generic_driver_probe+0x5f/0x90 usb_probe_device+0x71/0x1b0 really_probe+0x46b/0x660 __driver_probe_device+0x106/0x240 driver_probe_device+0x4a/0x110 __device_attach_driver+0xf1/0x1a0 ? __pfx___device_attach_driver+0x10/0x10 bus_for_each_drv+0xf9/0x160 ? __pfx_bus_for_each_drv+0x10/0x10 ? srso_alias_return_thunk+0x5/0xfbef5 ? trace_hardirqs_on+0x18/0x130 ? srso_alias_return_thunk+0x5/0xfbef5 ? _raw_spin_unlock_irqrestore+0x44/0x60 __device_attach+0x133/0x2a0 ? __pfx___device_attach+0x10/0x10 ? srso_alias_return_thunk+0x5/0xfbef5 ? do_raw_spin_unlock+0x9a/0x100 ? srso_alias_return_thunk+0x5/0xfbef5 device_initial_probe+0x55/0x70 bus_probe_device+0x4a/0xd0 device_add+0x9b9/0xc10 ? __pfx_device_add+0x10/0x10 ? srso_alias_return_thunk+0x5/0xfbef5 ? add_device_randomness+0xb7/0xf0 usb_new_device+0x492/0x870 hub_event+0x1b10/0x29c0 ? __pfx_hub_event+0x10/0x10 ? srso_alias_return_thunk+0x5/0xfbef5 ? lock_acquire+0x187/0x300 ? process_one_work+0x475/0xb90 ? srso_alias_return_thunk+0x5/0xfbef5 ? lock_release+0xc8/0x290 ? srso_alias_return_thunk+0x5/0xfbef5 process_one_work+0x4d7/0xb90 ? __pfx_process_one_work+0x10/0x10 ? srso_alias_return_thunk+0x5/0xfbef5 ? srso_alias_return_thunk+0x5/0xfbef5 ? __list_add_valid_or_report+0x37/0xf0 ? __pfx_hub_event+0x10/0x10 ? srso_alias_return_thunk+0x5/0xfbef5 worker_thread+0x2d8/0x570 ? __pfx_worker_thread+0x10/0x10 kthread+0x1ad/0x1f0 ? __pfx_kthread+0x10/0x10 ret_from_fork+0x3c9/0x540 ? __pfx_ret_from_fork+0x10/0x10 ? srso_alias_return_thunk+0x5/0xfbef5 ? __switch_to+0x2e9/0x730 ? __pfx_kthread+0x10/0x10 ret_from_fork_asm+0x1a/0x30 </TASK> Fixes: 121a0f839dbb ("usb: misc: Add Intel USBIO bridge driver") Cc: stable <stable@kernel.org> Assisted-by: Codex:gpt-5.5 Signed-off-by: Cen Zhang <zzzccc427@gmail.com> Reviewed-by: Hans de Goede <johannes.goede@oss.qualcomm.com> Acked-by: Sakari Ailus <sakari.ailus@linux.intel.com> Link: https://patch.msgid.link/20260618124029.3704089-1-zzzccc427@gmail.com Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>

commit abf76d3239dee97b66e7241ad04811f1ce562e28 upstream. The chaoskey driver has a use-after-free bug in its release routine. If the user closes the device file after the USB device has been unplugged, a debugging log statement will try to access the usb_interface structure after it has been deallocated: BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in dev_driver_string (drivers/base/core.c:2406) Read of size 8 at addr ffff888168e8a0b8 by task chaoskey_raw_re/10106 Hardware name: QEMU Ubuntu 24.04 PC v2 (i440FX + PIIX, arch_caps fix, 1996), BIOS 1.16.3-debian-1.16.3-2 04/01/2014 Call Trace: <TASK> dump_stack_lvl (lib/dump_stack.c:94 lib/dump_stack.c:120) print_report (mm/kasan/report.c:378 mm/kasan/report.c:482) kasan_report (mm/kasan/report.c:595) dev_driver_string (drivers/base/core.c:2406) __dynamic_dev_dbg (lib/dynamic_debug.c:906) chaoskey_release (drivers/usb/misc/chaoskey.c:323) __fput (fs/file_table.c:510) fput_close_sync (fs/file_table.c:615) __x64_sys_close (fs/open.c:1507 fs/open.c:1492 fs/open.c:1492) do_syscall_64 (arch/x86/entry/syscall_64.c:63 arch/x86/entry/syscall_64.c:94) entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe (arch/x86/entry/entry_64.S:121) The driver's last reference to the interface structure is dropped in the chaoskey_free() routine, so the code must not use the interface -- even in a debugging statement -- after that routine returns. (Exception: If we know that another reference is held by someone else, such as the device core while the disconnect routine runs, there's no problem. Thanks to Johan Hovold for pointing this out.) Since the bad access is part of an unimportant debugging statement, we can fix the problem simply by removing the whole statement. 2026-03-11usb: misc: onboard_usb_dev: Add support for requesting VBUS for Type-A portsAlexey Charkov1-0/+6
Add a regulator-only entry matching OF-described USB Type-A connectors. This allows platforms to explicitly model VBUS supply regulators for these ports instead of calling them PHY supplies or making the respective regulators always-on in their device trees. Type-A ports won't typically need a dedicated driver, as there is nothing to configure apart from the power supply, so there is no controller driver to traverse the OF graph and request the VBUS regulator, unlike for Type-C ports. Thus make it an onboard USB device, which it kind of really is. 2026-02-22Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argumentLinus Torvalds22-30/+30
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' | xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/' to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL argument to just drop that argument. Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered: they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically. For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate conversion. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2026-02-21treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar typesKees Cook22-32/+32
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) (where TYPE may also be *VAR) The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning "TYPE *". Signed-off-by: Kees Cook <kees@kernel.org>

Currently, the usb251xb assumes i2c control. But from HW point of view, the hub supports usage case without any i2c, we only want the gpio controls. 2025-08-13usb: misc: qcom_eud: Access EUD_MODE_MANAGER2 through secure callsKomal Bajaj2-9/+25
EUD_MODE_MANAGER2 register is mapped to a memory region that is marked as read-only for operating system running at EL1, enforcing access restrictions that prohibit direct memory-mapped writes via writel(). Attempts to write to this region from HLOS can result in silent failures or memory access violations, particularly when toggling EUD (Embedded USB Debugger) state. To ensure secure register access, modify the driver to use qcom_scm_io_writel(), which routes the write operation to Qualcomm Secure Channel Monitor (SCM). SCM has the necessary permissions to access protected memory regions, enabling reliable control over EUD state. SC7280, the only user of EUD is also affected, indicating that this could never have worked on a properly fused device. 2025-06-19usb: misc: apple-mfi-fastcharge: Make power supply names uniqueCharalampos Mitrodimas1-3/+21
When multiple Apple devices are connected concurrently, the apple-mfi-fastcharge driver fails to probe the subsequent devices with the following error: sysfs: cannot create duplicate filename '/class/power_supply/apple_mfi_fastcharge' apple-mfi-fastcharge 5-2.4.3.3: probe of 5-2.4.3.3 failed with error -17 This happens because the driver uses a fixed power supply name ("apple_mfi_fastcharge") for all devices, causing a sysfs name conflict when a second device is connected. Fix this by generating unique names using the USB bus and device number (e.g., "apple_mfi_fastcharge_5-12"). This ensures each connected device gets a unique power supply entry in sysfs. The change requires storing a copy of the power_supply_desc structure in the per-device mfi_device struct, since the name pointer needs to remain valid for the lifetime of the power supply registration. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/gregkh/usb Pull USB / Thunderbolt updates from Greg KH: "Here is the big set of USB and Thunderbolt changes for 6.16-rc1. Included in here are the following: - USB offload support for audio devices. I think this takes the record for the most number of patch series (30+) over the longest period of time (2+ years) to get merged properly. Many props go to Wesley Cheng for seeing this effort through, they took a major out-of-tree hacked-up-monstrosity that was created by multiple vendors for their specific devices, got it all merged into a semi-coherent set of changes, and got all of the different major subsystems to agree on how this should be implemented both with changes to their code as well as userspace apis, AND wrangled the hardware companies into agreeing to go forward with this, despite making them all redo work they had already done in their private device trees. This feature offers major power savings on embedded devices where a USB audio stream can continue to flow while the rest of the system is sleeping, something that devices running on battery power really care about. There are still some more small tweaks left to be done here, and those patches are still out for review and arguing among the different hardware companies, but this is a major step forward and a great example of how to do upstream development well. - small number of thunderbolt fixes and updates, things seem to be slowing down here (famous last words...) - xhci refactors and reworking to try to handle some rough corner cases in some hardware implementations where things don't always work properly - typec driver updates - USB3 power management reworking and updates - Removal of some old and orphaned UDC gadget drivers that had not been used in a very long time, dropping over 11 thousand lines from the tree, always a nice thing, making up for the 12k lines added for the USB offload feature. - lots of little updates and fixes in different drivers All of these have been in linux-next for over 2 weeks, the USB offload logic has been in there for 8 weeks now, with no reported issues" * tag 'usb-6.16-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/gregkh/usb: (172 commits) ALSA: usb-audio: qcom: fix USB_XHCI dependency ASoC: qdsp6: fix compile-testing without CONFIG_OF usb: misc: onboard_usb_dev: fix build warning for CONFIG_USB_ONBOARD_DEV_USB5744=n usb: typec: tipd: fix typo in TPS_STATUS_HIGH_VOLAGE_WARNING macro USB: typec: fix const issue in typec_match() USB: gadget: udc: fix const issue in gadget_match_driver() USB: gadget: fix up const issue with struct usb_function_instance USB: serial: pl2303: add new chip PL2303GC-Q20 and PL2303GT-2AB USB: serial: bus: fix const issue in usb_serial_device_match() usb: usbtmc: Fix timeout value in get_stb usb: usbtmc: Fix read_stb function and get_stb ioctl ALSA: qc_audio_offload: try to reduce address space confusion ALSA: qc_audio_offload: avoid leaking xfer_buf allocation ALSA: qc_audio_offload: rename dma/iova/va/cpu/phys variables ALSA: usb-audio: qcom: Fix an error handling path in qc_usb_audio_probe() usb: misc: onboard_usb_dev: Fix usb5744 initialization sequence dt-bindings: usb: ti,usb8041: Add binding for TI USB8044 hub controller usb: misc: onboard_usb_dev: Add support for TI TUSB8044 hub usb: gadget: lpc32xx_udc: Use USB API functions rather than constants usb: gadget: epautoconf: Use USB API functions rather than constants ...
