2024-05-17usb: dwc3: core: Prevent phy suspend during initThinh Nguyen1-0/+2
commit 6d735722063a945de56472bdc6bfcb170fd43b86 upstream. GUSB3PIPECTL.SUSPENDENABLE and GUSB2PHYCFG.SUSPHY should be cleared during initialization. Suspend during initialization can result in undefined behavior due to clock synchronization failure, which often seen as core soft reset timeout. The programming guide recommended these bits to be cleared during initialization for DWC_usb3.0 version 1.94 and above (along with DWC_usb31 and DWC_usb32). The current check in the driver does not account if it's set by default setting from coreConsultant. This is especially the case for DRD when switching mode to ensure the phy clocks are available to change mode. Depending on the platforms/design, some may be affected more than others. This is noted in the DWC_usb3x programming guide under the above registers. Let's just disable them during driver load and mode switching. Restore them when the controller initialization completes. Note that some platforms workaround this issue by disabling phy suspend through "snps,dis_u3_susphy_quirk" and "snps,dis_u2_susphy_quirk" when they should not need to. commit 3ddaa6a274578e23745b7466346fc2650df8f959 upstream. If dwc3 is runtime suspended we defer processing the event buffer until resume, by setting the pending_events flag. Set this flag before triggering resume to avoid race with the runtime resume callback. While handling the pending events, in addition to checking the event buffer we also need to process it. Handle this by explicitly calling dwc3_thread_interrupt(). Also balance the runtime pm get() operation that triggered this processing. 2023-07-27usb: dwc3: gadget: Propagate core init errors to UDC during pullupKrishna Kurapati1-1/+3

In scenarios where pullup relies on resume (get sync) to initialize the controller and set the run stop bit, then core_init is followed by gadget_resume which will eventually set run stop bit. But in cases where the core_init fails, the return value is not sent back to udc appropriately. So according to UDC the controller has started but in reality we never set the run stop bit. On systems like Android, there are uevents sent to HAL depending on whether the configfs_bind / configfs_disconnect were invoked. In the above mentioned scnenario, if the core init fails, the run stop won't be set and the cable plug-out won't result in generation of any disconnect event and userspace would never get any uevent regarding cable plug out and we never call pullup(0) again. Furthermore none of the next Plug-In/Plug-Out's would be known to configfs. Return back the appropriate result to UDC to let the userspace/ configfs know that the pullup failed so they can take appropriate action. commit 00f8205ffcf112dcef14f8151d78075d38d22c08 upstream. Consider a scenario where cable disconnect happens when there is an active usb reqest queued to the UDC. As part of the disconnect we would issue an end transfer with no interrupt-on-completion before giving back this request. Since we are giving back the request without skipping TRBs the num_trbs field of dwc3_request still holds the stale value previously used. Function drivers re-use same request for a given bind-unbind session and hence their dwc3_request context gets preserved across cable disconnect/connect. When such a request gets re-queued after cable connect, we would increase the num_trbs field on top of the previous stale value thus incorrectly representing the number of TRBs used. Fix this by resetting num_trbs field before giving back the request. Consider a case where device is not configured and got suspend interrupt, in that case our gadget will still use 100mA as composite_suspend didn't happen. But battery charging specification (BC1.2) expects a downstream device to draw less than 2.5mA when unconnected OR suspended. Fix this by removing the condition for processing suspend event, and thus composite_resume would set vbus draw to 2. 2023-04-05usb: dwc3: gadget: Add 1ms delay after end transfer command without IOCWesley Cheng1-3/+11
[ Upstream commit d8a2bb4eb75866275b5cf7de2e593ac3449643e2 ] Previously, there was a 100uS delay inserted after issuing an end transfer command for specific controller revisions. This was due to the fact that there was a GUCTL2 bit field which enabled synchronous completion of the end transfer command once the CMDACT bit was cleared in the DEPCMD register. Since this bit does not exist for all controller revisions and the current implementation heavily relies on utizling the EndTransfer command completion interrupt, add the delay back in for uses where the interrupt on completion bit is not set, and increase the duration to 1ms for the controller to complete the command. An issue was seen where the USB request buffer was unmapped while the DWC3 controller was still accessing the TRB. However, it was confirmed that the end transfer command was successfully submitted. (no end transfer timeout) In situations, such as dwc3_gadget_soft_disconnect() and __dwc3_gadget_ep_disable(), the dwc3_remove_request() is utilized, which will issue the end transfer command, and follow up with dwc3_gadget_giveback(). At least for the USB ep disable path, it is required for any pending and started requests to be completed and returned to the function driver in the same context of the disable call. Without the GUCTL2 bit, it is not ensured that the end transfer is completed before the buffers are unmapped. [ Upstream commit 3aa07f72894d209fcf922ad686cbb28cf005aaad ] If there's a disconnection while operating in eSS, there may be a delay in VBUS drop response from the connector. In that case, the internal link state may drop to operate in usb2 speed while the controller thinks the VBUS is still high. The driver must make sure to disable GUSB2PHYCFG.SUSPHY when sending endpoint command while in usb2 speed. The End Transfer command may be called, and only that command needs to go through at this point. Let's keep it simple and unconditionally disable GUSB2PHYCFG.SUSPHY whenever we issue the command. This scenario is not seen in real hardware. In a rare case, our prototype type-c controller/interface may have a slow response triggerring this issue. When servicing a transfer completion event, the dwc3 driver will reclaim TRBs of started requests up to the request associated with the interrupt event. Currently we don't check for interrupt due to missed isoc, and the driver may attempt to reclaim TRBs beyond the associated event. This causes invalid memory access when the hardware still owns the TRB. If there's a missed isoc TRB with IMI (interrupt on missed isoc), make sure to stop servicing further. Note that only the last TRB of chained TRBs has its status updated with missed isoc. Simply let the interrupt handler acknowledges the remaining event generated by the controller while polling for DSTS.DEVCTLHLT. This avoids disabling irq and taking care of race condition between the interrupt handlers and pullup(). It would break normal operation. Currently the caller of pullup() (udc's sysfs soft_connect) only checks if it had initiated disconnect to prevent repeating soft-disconnect. It doesn't check for soft-connect. To be safe, let's keep the check here regardless whether the udc core is fixed. This will eventually lead to a possible scenario where we are enabling the run/stop bit, without a valid composition defined. Thread#1 (handling UDC unbind): usb_gadget_remove_driver() -->usb_gadget_disconnect() -->dwc3_gadget_pullup(0) --> continue UDC unbind sequence -->Thread#2 is running in parallel here Thread#2 (handing next cable connect) __dwc3_set_mode() -->pm_runtime_get_sync() -->dwc3_gadget_resume() -->dwc->gadget_driver is NOT NULL yet -->dwc3_gadget_run_stop(1) --> _dwc3gadget_start() ... Fix this by tracking the pullup disable routine, and avoiding resuming of the DWC3 gadget. Once the UDC is re-binded, that will trigger the pullup enable routine, which would handle enabling the DWC3 gadget. 2022-07-21usb: dwc3: gadget: Fix event pending checkThinh Nguyen1-1/+3

The DWC3_EVENT_PENDING flag is used to protect against invalid call to top-half interrupt handler, which can occur when there's a delay in software detection of the interrupt line deassertion. However, the clearing of this flag was done prior to unmasking the interrupt line, creating opportunity where the top-half handler can come. This breaks the serialization and creates a race between the top-half and bottom-half handler, resulting in losing synchronization between the controller and the driver when processing events. To fix this, make sure the clearing of the DWC3_EVENT_PENDING is done at the end of the bottom-half handler. When dwc3_gadget_ep_cleanup_completed_requests() called to dwc3_gadget_giveback() where the dwc3 lock is released, other thread is able to execute. In this situation, usb_ep_disable() gets the chance to clear endpoint descriptor pointer which leds to the null pointer dereference problem. So needs to move the null pointer check to a proper place. The interrupt service routine registered for the gadget is a primary handler which mask the interrupt source and a threaded handler which handles the source of the interrupt. Since the threaded handler is voluntary threaded, the IRQ-core does not disable bottom halves before invoke the handler like it does for the forced-threaded handler. Due to changes in networking it became visible that a network gadget's completions handler may schedule a softirq which remains unprocessed. The gadget's completion handler is usually invoked either in hard-IRQ or soft-IRQ context. In this context it is enough to just raise the softirq because the softirq itself will be handled once that context is left. In the case of the voluntary threaded handler, there is nothing that will process pending softirqs. Which means it remain queued until another random interrupt (on this CPU) fires and handles it on its exit path or another thread locks and unlocks a lock with the bh suffix. Worst case is that the CPU goes idle and the NOHZ complains about unhandled softirqs. Disable bottom halves before acquiring the lock (and disabling interrupts) and enable them after dropping the lock. This ensures that any pending softirqs will handled right away. If it's not in U0, the driver needs to perform remote wakeup. This is not accurate. If the link state is in U1/U2, then the controller will not respond to link recovery request from DCTL.ULSTCHNGREQ. The Start Transfer command will trigger a link recovery if it is in U1/U2. A clarification will be added to the programming guide for all controller versions. The current implementation shouldn't cause any functional issue. It may occasionally report an invalid time out warning from failed link recovery request. The driver will still go ahead with the Start Transfer command if the remote wakeup fails. The new change only initiates remote wakeup where it is needed, which is when the link state is in L1/L2/U3. During a USB cable disconnect, or soft disconnect scenario, a pending SETUP transaction may not be completed, leading to the following error: dwc3 a600000.dwc3: timed out waiting for SETUP phase If this occurs, then the entire pullup disable routine is skipped and proper cleanup and halting of the controller does not complete. Instead of returning an error (which is ignored from the UDC perspective), allow the pullup disable routine to continue, which will also handle disabling of EP0/1. This will end any active transfers as well. Ensure to clear any delayed_status also, as the timeout could happen within the STATUS stage. A TRB is only available when the driver had processed it, not when the controller consumed and relinquished the TRB's ownership to the driver. Otherwise, the driver may overwrite unprocessed TRBs. This can happen when many transfer events accumulate and the system is slow to process them and/or when there are too many small requests. If a request is in the started_list, that means there is one or more unprocessed TRBs remained. Check this instead of the TRB's HWO bit whether the TRB ring is full. If the USB gadget is disabling the pullup, then avoid having to issue a runtime resume, as DWC3 gadget has already been halted/stopped. This fixes an issue where the following condition occurs: usb_gadget_remove_driver() -->usb_gadget_disconnect() -->dwc3_gadget_pullup(0) -->pm_runtime_get_sync() -> ret = 0 -->pm_runtime_put() [async] -->usb_gadget_udc_stop() -->dwc3_gadget_stop() -->dwc->gadget_driver = NULL ... dwc3_suspend_common() -->dwc3_gadget_suspend() -->DWC3 halt/stop routine skipped, driver_data == NULL This leads to a situation where the DWC3 gadget is not properly stopped, as the runtime resume would have re-enabled EP0 and event interrupts, and since we avoided the DWC3 gadget suspend, these resources were never disabled. commit 8d396bb0a5b62b326f6be7594d8bd46b088296bd upstream. The DWC3 DebugFS directory and files are currently created once during probe. This includes creation of subdirectories for each of the gadget's endpoints. This works fine for peripheral-only controllers, as dwc3_core_init_mode() calls dwc3_gadget_init() just prior to calling dwc3_debugfs_init(). However, for dual-role controllers, dwc3_core_init_mode() will instead call dwc3_drd_init() which is problematic in a few ways. First, the initial state must be determined, then dwc3_set_mode() will have to schedule drd_work and by then dwc3_debugfs_init() could have already been invoked. Even if the initial mode is peripheral, dwc3_gadget_init() happens after the DebugFS files are created, and worse so if the initial state is host and the controller switches to peripheral much later. And secondly, even if the gadget endpoints' debug entries were successfully created, if the controller exits peripheral mode, its dwc3_eps are freed so the debug files would now hold stale references. So it is best if the DebugFS endpoint entries are created and removed dynamically at the same time the underlying dwc3_eps are. Do this by calling dwc3_debugfs_create_endpoint_dir() as each endpoint is created, and conversely remove the DebugFS entry when the endpoint is freed. However, the dwc3_gadget_disable_irq() API only disables device specific events. Endpoint events can still be generated. Briefly disable the interrupt line, so that the cleanup code can run to prevent device and endpoint events. (i.e. __dwc3_gadget_stop() and dwc3_stop_active_transfers() respectively) Without doing so, it can lead to both the interrupt handler and the pullup disable routine both writing to the GEVNTCOUNT register, which will cause an incorrect count being read from future interrupts. There exists a possible scenario in which dwc3_gadget_init() can fail: during during host -> peripheral mode switch in dwc3_set_mode(), and a pending gadget driver fails to bind. Then, if the DRD undergoes another mode switch from peripheral->host the resulting dwc3_gadget_exit() will attempt to reference an invalid and dangling dwc->gadget pointer as well as call dma_free_coherent() on unmapped DMA pointers. The exact scenario can be reproduced as follows: - Start DWC3 in peripheral mode - Configure ConfigFS gadget with FunctionFS instance (or use g_ffs) - Run FunctionFS userspace application (open EPs, write descriptors, etc) - Bind gadget driver to DWC3's UDC - Switch DWC3 to host mode => dwc3_gadget_exit() is called. usb_del_gadget() will put the ConfigFS driver instance on the gadget_driver_pending_list - Stop FunctionFS application (closes the ep files) - Switch DWC3 to peripheral mode => dwc3_gadget_init() fails as usb_add_gadget() calls check_pending_gadget_drivers() and attempts to rebind the UDC to the ConfigFS gadget but fails with -19 (-ENODEV) because the FFS instance is not in FFS_ACTIVE state (userspace has not re-opened and written the descriptors yet, i.e. desc_ready!=0). - Switch DWC3 back to host mode => dwc3_gadget_exit() is called again, but this time dwc->gadget is invalid. Although it can be argued that userspace should take responsibility for ensuring that the FunctionFS application be ready prior to allowing the composite driver bind to the UDC, failure to do so should not result in a panic from the kernel driver. Fix this by setting dwc->gadget to NULL in the failure path of dwc3_gadget_init() and add a check to dwc3_gadget_exit() to bail out unless the gadget pointer is valid. Fix this by decrementing the num_pending_sgs after they are queued and properly track both num_mapped_sgs and num_queued_sgs. [ Upstream commit bb9c74a5bd1462499fe5ccb1e3c5ac40dcfa9139 ] As part of commit e81a7018d93a ("usb: dwc3: allocate gadget structure dynamically") the dwc3_gadget_release() was added which will free the dwc->gadget structure upon the device's removal when usb_del_gadget_udc() is called in dwc3_gadget_exit(). However, simply freeing the gadget results a dangling pointer situation: the endpoints created in dwc3_gadget_init_endpoints() have their dep->endpoint.ep_list members chained off the list_head anchored at dwc->gadget->ep_list. Thus when dwc->gadget is freed, the first dwc3_ep in the list now has a dangling prev pointer and likewise for the next pointer of the dwc3_ep at the tail of the list. The dwc3_gadget_free_endpoints() that follows will result in a use-after-free when it calls list_del(). This was caught by enabling KASAN and performing a driver unbind. The recent commit 568262bf5492 ("usb: dwc3: core: Add shutdown callback for dwc3") also exposes this as a panic during shutdown. There are a few possibilities to fix this. One could be to perform a list_del() of the gadget->ep_list itself which removes it from the rest of the dwc3_ep chain. Another approach is what this patch does, by splitting up the usb_del_gadget_udc() call into its separate "del" and "put" components. This allows dwc3_gadget_free_endpoints() to be called before the gadget is finally freed with usb_put_gadget(). Don't use dwc->link_state to check this since the driver only tracks the link state when the link state change interrupt is enabled. Check the link state from DSTS register instead. Note that often the host already brings the device out of low power before it sends/requests the next transfer. So, the user won't see any issue when the device starts transfer then. This issue is more noticeable in cases when the device delays starting transfer, which can happen during delayed control status after the host put the device in low power. 2021-05-11usb: dwc3: gadget: Ignore EP queue requests during bus resetWesley Cheng1-0/+9
[ Upstream commit 71ca43f30df9c642970f9dc9b2d6f463f4967e7b ] The current dwc3_gadget_reset_interrupt() will stop any active transfers, but only addresses blocking of EP queuing for while we are coming from a disconnected scenario, i.e. after receiving the disconnect event. If the host decides to issue a bus reset on the device, the connected parameter will still be set to true, allowing for EP queuing to continue while we are disabling the functions. To avoid this, set the connected flag to false until the stop active transfers is complete. In the situations where the DWC3 gadget stops active transfers, once calling the dwc3_gadget_giveback(), there is a chance where a function driver can queue a new USB request in between the time where the dwc3 lock has been released and re-aquired. This occurs after we've already issued an ENDXFER command. When the stop active transfers continues to remove USB requests from all dep lists, the newly added request will also be removed, while controller still has an active TRB for it. This can lead to the controller accessing an unmapped memory address. Fix this by ensuring parameters to prevent EP queuing are set before calling the stop active transfers API. commit 77adb8bdf4227257e26b7ff67272678e66a0b250 upstream. The DWC3 runtime suspend routine checks for the USB connected parameter to determine if the controller can enter into a low power state. The connected state is only set to false after receiving a disconnect event. However, in the case of a device initiated disconnect (i.e. UDC unbind), the controller is halted and a disconnect event is never generated. Set the connected flag to false if issuing a device initiated disconnect to allow the controller to be suspended. Fullspeed interrupt endpoint bInterval is the number of frames per interval and not 2^(bInterval - 1). So fix it here. This change is only for debugging purpose and should not affect the interrupt endpoint operation.
