Since commit 0f0101719138 ("usb: dwc3: Don't switch OTG -> peripheral
if extcon is present"), Dual Role support on Intel Merrifield platform
broke due to rearranging the call to dwc3_get_extcon().
It appears to be caused by ulpi_read_id() masking the timeout on the first
test write. In the past dwc3 probe continued by calling dwc3_core_soft_reset()
followed by dwc3_get_extcon() which happend to return -EPROBE_DEFER.
On deferred probe ulpi_read_id() finally succeeded. Due to above mentioned
rearranging -EPROBE_DEFER is not returned and probe completes without phy.
On Intel Merrifield the timeout on the first test write issue is reproducible
but it is difficult to find the root cause. Using a mainline kernel and
rootfs with buildroot ulpi_read_id() succeeds. As soon as adding
ftrace / bootconfig to find out why, ulpi_read_id() fails and we can't
analyze the flow. Using another rootfs ulpi_read_id() fails even without
adding ftrace. We suspect the issue is some kind of timing / race, but
merely retrying ulpi_read_id() does not resolve the issue.
As we now changed ulpi_read_id() to return -ETIMEDOUT in this case, we
need to handle the error by calling dwc3_core_soft_reset() and request
-EPROBE_DEFER. On deferred probe ulpi_read_id() is retried and succeeds.

dwc->desired_dr_role is changed by dwc3_set_mode inside a spinlock but
then read by __dwc3_set_mode outside of that lock. This can lead to a
race condition when very quick successive role switch events happen:
CPU A
dwc3_set_mode(DWC3_GCTL_PRTCAP_HOST) // first role switch event
spin_lock_irqsave(&dwc->lock, flags);
dwc->desired_dr_role = mode; // DWC3_GCTL_PRTCAP_HOST
spin_unlock_irqrestore(&dwc->lock, flags);
queue_work(system_freezable_wq, &dwc->drd_work);
CPU B
__dwc3_set_mode
// ....
spin_lock_irqsave(&dwc->lock, flags);
// desired_dr_role is DWC3_GCTL_PRTCAP_HOST
dwc3_set_prtcap(dwc, dwc->desired_dr_role);
spin_unlock_irqrestore(&dwc->lock, flags);
CPU A
dwc3_set_mode(DWC3_GCTL_PRTCAP_DEVICE) // second event
spin_lock_irqsave(&dwc->lock, flags);
dwc->desired_dr_role = mode; // DWC3_GCTL_PRTCAP_DEVICE
spin_unlock_irqrestore(&dwc->lock, flags);
CPU B (continues running __dwc3_set_mode)
switch (dwc->desired_dr_role) { // DWC3_GCTL_PRTCAP_DEVICE
// ....
case DWC3_GCTL_PRTCAP_DEVICE:
// ....
ret = dwc3_gadget_init(dwc);
We then have DWC3_GCTL.DWC3_GCTL_PRTCAPDIR = DWC3_GCTL_PRTCAP_HOST and
dwc->current_dr_role = DWC3_GCTL_PRTCAP_HOST but initialized the
controller in device mode. It's also possible to get into a state
where both host and device are intialized at the same time.
Fix this race by creating a local copy of desired_dr_role inside
__dwc3_set_mode while holding dwc->lock.

The change breaks device tree based platforms with PHY device and use
usb-role-switch instead of an extcon switch. extcon_find_edev_by_node()
will return EPROBE_DEFER if it can not find a device so probing without
an extcon device will be deferred indefinitely. Fix this by
explicitly checking for usb-role-switch.
At least the out-of-tree USB3 support on Apple silicon based platforms
using dwc3 with tipd USB Type-C and PD controller is affected by this
issue.

resume bug
When configured in HOST mode, after issuing U3/L2 exit controller fails
to send proper CRC checksum in CRC5 field. Because of this behavior
Transaction Error is generated, resulting in reset and re-enumeration of
usb device attached. Enabling chicken bit 10 of GUCTL1 will correct this
problem.
When this bit is set to '1', the UTMI/ULPI opmode will be changed to
"normal" along with HS terminations, term, and xcvr signals after EOR.
This option is to support certain legacy UTMI/ULPI PHYs.

On some DWC3 controllers (e.g. Rockchip SoCs), the DWC3 core
doesn't support 64-bit DMA address width. In this case, this
driver should use the default 32-bit mask. Otherwise, the DWC3
controller will break if it runs on above 4GB physical memory
environment.
This patch reads the DWC_USB3_AWIDTH bits of GHWPARAMS0 which
used for the DMA address width, and only configure 64-bit DMA
mask if the DWC_USB3_AWIDTH is 64.

It is the Qualcomm glue wakeup interrupts that may be able to wake the
system from suspend and this can now be described in the devicetree.
Move the wakeup-source property handling over from the core driver and
instead propagate the capability setting to the core device during
probe.
This is needed as there is currently no way for the core driver to query
the wakeup setting of the glue device, but it is the core driver that
manages the PHY power state during suspend.
Also don't leave the PHYs enabled when system wakeup has been disabled
through sysfs.

According to the programming guide, it is recommended to
perform a GCTL_CORE_SOFTRESET only when switching the mode
from device to host or host to device. However, it is found
that during bootup when __dwc3_set_mode() is called for the
first time, GCTL_CORESOFTRESET is done with suspendable bit(BIT 17)
of DWC3_GUSB3PIPECTL set. This some times leads to issues
like controller going into bad state and controller registers
reading value zero. Until GCTL_CORESOFTRESET is done and
run/stop bit is set core initialization is not complete.
Setting suspendable bit of DWC3_GUSB3PIPECTL and then
performing GCTL_CORESOFTRESET is therefore not recommended.
Avoid this by only performing the reset if current_dr_role is set,
that is, when doing subsequent role switching.

Check wakeup-source property for dwc3 core node to set the
wakeup capability. Drop the device_init_wakeup call from
runtime suspend and resume.
If the dwc3 is wakeup capable, don't power down the USB PHY(s).
The glue drivers are expected to take care of configuring the
additional wakeup settings if needed based on the dwc3 wakeup
capability status. In some SOC designs, powering off the PHY is
resulting in higher leakage, so this patch save power on such boards.

Some SoC(e.g NXP imx8MQ) may have a wrong default power down scale
setting so need init it to be the correct value, the power down
scale setting description in DWC3 databook:
Power Down Scale (PwrDnScale)
The USB3 suspend_clk input replaces pipe3_rx_pclk as a clock source to
a small part of the USB3 core that operates when the SS PHY is in its
lowest power (P3) state, and therefore does not provide a clock.
The Power Down Scale field specifies how many suspend_clk periods fit
into a 16 kHz clock period. When performing the division, round up the
remainder.
For example, when using an 8-bit/16-bit/32-bit PHY and 25-MHz Suspend
clock,
Power Down Scale = 25000 kHz/16 kHz = 13'd1563 (rounder up)
So use the suspend clock rate to calculate it.

Commit 33fb697ec7e5 ("usb: dwc3: Get clocks individually") moved from
the clk_bulk api to individual clocks, following the snps,dwc3.yaml
dt-binding for clock names.
Unfortunately the rk3328 (and upcoming rk356x support) use the
rockchip,dwc3.yaml which has different clock names, which are common on
devices using the glue layer.
The rk3328 does not use a glue layer, but attaches directly to the dwc3
core driver.
The offending patch series failed to account for this, thus dwc3 was
broken on rk3328.
To retain backwards compatibility with rk3328 device trees we must also
check for the alternate clock names.

In the 3.0 device core, if the core is programmed to operate in
2.0 only, then setting the GUCTL1.DEV_FORCE_20_CLK_FOR_30_CLK makes
the internal 2.0(utmi/ulpi) clock to be routed as the 3.0 (pipe)
clock. Enabling this feature allows the pipe3 clock to be not-running
when forcibly operating in 2.0 device mode.

GUCTL.REFCLKPER can only account for clock frequencies with integer
periods. To address this, program REFCLK_FLADJ with the relative error
caused by period truncation. The formula given in the register reference
has been rearranged to allow calculation based on rate (instead of
period), and to allow for fixed-point arithmetic.
Additionally, calculate a value for 240MHZDECR. This configures a
simulated 240Mhz clock using a counter with one fractional bit (PLS1).
This register is programmed only for versions >= 2.50a, since this is
the check also used by commit db2be4e9e30c ("usb: dwc3: Add frame length
adjustment quirk").

Instead of using a special property to determine the reference clock
period, use the rate of the reference clock. When we have a legacy
snps,ref-clock-period-ns property and no reference clock, use it
instead. Fractional clocks are not currently supported, and will be
dealt with in the next commit.

After we start to do core soft reset while usb role switch,
the phy init is invoked at every switch to device mode, but
its counter part de-init is missing, this causes the actual
phy init can not be done when we really want to re-init phy

role switch, so move out the phy init from core soft reset to
dwc3 core init where is the only place required.

Set reference clock period when it differs from dwc3 default hardware
set.
We could calculate clock period based on reference clock frequency. But
this information is not always available. This is the case of PCI bus
attached USB host. For that reason we use a custom property.
Tested (USB2 only) on IPQ6010 SoC based board with 24 MHz reference
clock while hardware default is 19.2 MHz.

On DWC_usb3 revisions 3.00a and newer (including DWC_usb31 and
DWC_usb32) the GUCTL1 register gained the DEV_DECOUPLE_L1L2_EVT
field (bit 31) which when enabled allows the controller in device
mode to treat USB 2.0 L1 LPM & L2 events separately.
After commit d1d90dd27254 ("usb: dwc3: gadget: Enable suspend
events") the controller will now receive events (and therefore
interrupts) for every state change when entering/exiting either
L1 or L2 states. Since L1 is handled entirely by the hardware
and requires no software intervention, there is no need to even
enable these events and unnecessarily notify the gadget driver.
Enable the aforementioned bit to help reduce the overall interrupt
count for these L1 events that don't need to be handled while
retaining the events for full L2 suspend/wakeup.

Some devices have USB compositions which may require multiple endpoints
that support EP bursting. HW defined TX FIFO sizes may not always be
sufficient for these compositions. By utilizing flexible TX FIFO
allocation, this allows for endpoints to request the required FIFO depth to
achieve higher bandwidth. With some higher bMaxBurst configurations, using
a larger TX FIFO size results in better TX throughput.
By introducing the check_config() callback, the resizing logic can fetch
the maximum number of endpoints used in the USB composition (can contain
multiple configurations), which helps ensure that the resizing logic can
fulfill the configuration(s), or return an error to the gadget layer
otherwise during bind time.

directly, then we end up calling debugfs_remove_recursive() twice."
Reverting the commit fixes the panic.

From: John Stultz <john.stultz@linaro.org>
According to the programming guide, to switch mode for DRD controller,
the driver needs to do the following.
To switch from device to host:
1. Reset controller with GCTL.CoreSoftReset
2. Set GCTL.PrtCapDir(host mode)
3. Reset the host with USBCMD.HCRESET
4. Then follow up with the initializing host registers sequence
To switch from host to device:
1. Reset controller with GCTL.CoreSoftReset
2. Set GCTL.PrtCapDir(device mode)
3. Reset the device with DCTL.CSftRst
4. Then follow up with the initializing registers sequence
Currently we're missing step 1) to do GCTL.CoreSoftReset and step 3) of
switching from host to device. John Stult reported a lockup issue seen
with HiKey960 platform without these steps[1]. Similar issue is observed
with Ferry's testing platform[2].
So, apply the required steps along with some fixes to Yu Chen's and John
Stultz's version. The main fixes to their versions are the missing wait
for clocks synchronization before clearing GCTL.CoreSoftReset and only
apply DCTL.CSftRst when switching from host to device.
