commit 58fc1daa4d2e9789b9ffc880907c961ea7c062cc upstream.
A recent change that started reporting break events forgot to push the
event to the line discipline, which meant that a detected break would
not be reported until further characters had been receive (the port
could even have been closed and reopened in between).

commit 65a205e6113506e69a503b61d97efec43fc10fd7 upstream.
A recent change that started reporting break events to the line
discipline caused the tty-buffer insertions to no longer be serialised
by inserting events also from the completion handler for the interrupt
endpoint.
Completion calls for distinct endpoints are not guaranteed to be
serialised. For example, in case a host-controller driver uses
bottom-half completion, the interrupt and bulk-in completion handlers
can end up running in parallel on two CPUs (high-and low-prio tasklets,
respectively) thereby breaking the tty layer's single producer
assumption.
Fix this by holding the read lock also when inserting characters from
the bulk endpoint.

The function usbtmc_interrupt() resubmits urbs when the error status
of an urb is -EPROTO. In systems using the dummy_hcd usb controller
this can result in endless interrupt loops when the usbtmc device is
disconnected from the host system.
Since host controller drivers already try to recover from transmission
errors, there is no need to resubmit the urb or try other solutions
to repair the error situation.
In case of errors the INT pipe just stops to wait for further packets.

commit 4897807753e078655a78de39ed76044d784f3e63 upstream.
The device (32a7:0000 Heimann Sensor GmbH USB appset demo) claims to be
a CDC-ACM device in its descriptors but in fact is not. If it is run
with echo disabled it returns garbled data, probably due to something
that happens in the TTY layer. And when run with echo enabled (the
default), it will mess up the calibration data of the sensor the first
time any data is sent to the device.
In short, I had a bad time after connecting the sensor and trying to get
it to work. I hope blacklisting it in the cdc-acm driver will save
someone else a bit of trouble.

[ Upstream commit dd5619582d60007139f0447382d2839f4f9e339b ]
TIOCSSERIAL is a horrid, underspecified, legacy interface which for most
serial devices is only useful for setting the close_delay and
closing_wait parameters.
A non-privileged user has only ever been able to set the since long
deprecated ASYNC_SPD flags and trying to change any other *supported*
feature should result in -EPERM being returned. Setting the current
values for any supported features should return success.
Fix the cdc-acm implementation which instead indicated that the
TIOCSSERIAL ioctl was not even implemented when a non-privileged user
set the current values.

commit 4e49bf376c0451ad2eae2592e093659cde12be9a upstream.
If tty-device registration fails the driver would fail to release the
data interface. When the device is later disconnected, the disconnect
callback would still be called for the data interface and would go about
releasing already freed resources.

commit 4d8654e81db7346f915eca9f1aff18f385cab621 upstream.
The CDC ACM driver is false matching the Goodix Fingerprint device
against the USB_CDC_ACM_PROTO_AT_V25TER.
The Goodix Fingerprint device is a biometrics sensor that should be
handled in user-space. libfprint has some support for Goodix
fingerprint sensors, although not for this particular one. It is
possible that the vendor allocates a PID per OEM (Lenovo, Dell etc).
If this happens to be the case then more devices from the same vendor
could potentially match the ACM modem module table.

commit 020a1f453449294926ca548d8d5ca970926e8dfd upstream.
Stack-allocated buffers cannot be used for DMA (on all architectures).
Replace the HP-channel macro with a helper function that allocates a
dedicated transfer buffer so that it can continue to be used with
arguments from the stack.
Note that the buffer is cleared on allocation as usblp_ctrl_msg()
returns success also on short transfers (the buffer is only used for
debugging).

commit 37d2a36394d954413a495da61da1b2a51ecd28ab upstream.
syzbot is reporting hung task at wdm_flush() [1], for there is a circular
dependency that wdm_flush() from flip_close() for /dev/cdc-wdm0 forever
waits for /dev/raw-gadget to be closed while close() for /dev/raw-gadget
cannot be called unless close() for /dev/cdc-wdm0 completes.
Tetsuo Handa considered that such circular dependency is an usage error [2]
which corresponds to an unresponding broken hardware [3]. But Alan Stern
responded that we should be prepared for such hardware [4]. Therefore,
this patch changes wdm_flush() to use wait_event_interruptible_timeout()
which gives up after 30 seconds, for hardware that remains silent must be
ignored. The 30 seconds are coming out of thin air.
Changing wait_event() to wait_event_interruptible_timeout() makes error
reporting from close() syscall less reliable. To compensate it, this patch
also implements wdm_fsync() which does not use timeout. Those who want to
be very sure that data has gone out to the device are now advised to call
fsync(), with a caveat that fsync() can return -EINVAL when running on
older kernels which do not implement wdm_fsync().
This patch also fixes three more problems (listed below) found during
exhaustive discussion and testing.
Since multiple threads can concurrently call wdm_write()/wdm_flush(),
we need to use wake_up_all() whenever clearing WDM_IN_USE in order to
make sure that all waiters are woken up. Also, error reporting needs
to use fetch-and-clear approach in order not to report same error for
multiple times.
Since wdm_flush() checks WDM_DISCONNECTING, wdm_write() should as well
check WDM_DISCONNECTING.
In wdm_flush(), since locks are not held, it is not safe to dereference
desc->intf after checking that WDM_DISCONNECTING is not set [5]. Thus,
remove dev_err() from wdm_flush().

commit a4f88430af896bf34ec25a7a5f0e053fb3d928e0 upstream.
The ES58X devices has a CDC ACM interface (used for debug
purpose). During probing, the device is thus recognized as USB Modem
(CDC ACM), preventing the etas-es58x module to load:
usbcore: registered new interface driver etas_es58x
usb 1-1.1: new full-speed USB device number 14 using xhci_hcd
usb 1-1.1: New USB device found, idVendor=108c, idProduct=0159, bcdDevice= 1.00
usb 1-1.1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
usb 1-1.1: Product: ES581.4
usb 1-1.1: Manufacturer: ETAS GmbH
usb 1-1.1: SerialNumber: 2204355
cdc_acm 1-1.1:1.0: No union descriptor, testing for castrated device
cdc_acm 1-1.1:1.0: ttyACM0: USB ACM device
Thus, these have been added to the ignore list in
drivers/usb/class/cdc-acm.c
N.B. Future firmware release of the ES58X will remove the CDC-ACM
interface.

[ Upstream commit 960c7339de27c6d6fec13b54880501c3576bb08d ]
Handle broken union functional descriptors where the master-interface
doesn't exist or where its class is of neither Communication or Data
type (as required by the specification) by falling back to
"combined-interface" probing.
Note that this still allows for handling union descriptors with switched
interfaces.
This specifically makes the Whistler radio scanners TRX series devices
work with the driver without adding further quirks to the device-id
table.

commit 62d65bdd9d05158aa2547f8ef72375535f3bc6e3 upstream.
commit b401f8c4f492c ("USB: cdc-acm: fix rounding error in TIOCSSERIAL")
introduced a regression by changing the order of capability and close
settings change checks. When running with CAP_SYS_ADMIN setting the
close settings to the values already set resulted in -EOPNOTSUPP.
Fix this by changing the check order back to how it was before.

[ Upstream commit b401f8c4f492cbf74f3f59c9141e5be3071071bb ]
By default, tty_port_init() initializes those parameters to a multiple
of HZ. For instance in line 69 of tty_port.c:
port->close_delay = (50 * HZ) / 100;
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/drivers/tty/tty_port.c#L69
With e.g. CONFIG_HZ = 250 (as this is the case for Ubuntu 18.04
linux-image-4.15.0-37-generic), the default setting for close_delay is
thus 125.
When ioctl(fd, TIOCGSERIAL, &s) is executed, the setting returned in
user space is '12' (125/10). When ioctl(fd, TIOCSSERIAL, &s) is then
executed with the same setting '12', the value is interpreted as '120'
which is different from the current setting and a EPERM error may be
raised by set_serial_info() if !CAP_SYS_ADMIN.

commit 1426bd2c9f7e3126e2678e7469dca9fd9fc6dd3e upstream.
In case of a disconnect an ongoing flush() has to be made fail.
Nevertheless we cannot be sure that any pending URB has already
finished, so although they will never succeed, they still must

The clean solution for this is to check for WDM_IN_USE
and WDM_DISCONNECTED in flush(). There is no point in ever
clearing WDM_IN_USE, as no further writes make sense.

commit eafb27fa5283599ce6c5492ea18cf636a28222bb upstream.
Mediatek Preloader is a proprietary embedded boot loader for loading
Little Kernel and Linux into device DRAM.
This boot loader also handle firmware update. Mediatek Preloader will be
enumerated as a virtual COM port when the device is connected to Windows
or Linux OS via CDC-ACM class driver. When the USB enumeration has been
done, Mediatek Preloader will send out handshake command "READY" to PC
actively instead of waiting command from the download tool.
Since Linux 4.12, the commit "tty: reset termios state on device
registration" (93857edd9829e144acb6c7e72d593f6e01aead66) causes Mediatek
Preloader receiving some abnoraml command like "READYXX" as it sent.
This will be recognized as an incorrect response. The behavior change
also causes the download handshake fail. This change only affects
subsequent connects if the reconnected device happens to get the same minor
number.
By disabling the ECHO termios flag could avoid this problem. However, it
cannot be done by user space configuration when download tool open
/dev/ttyACM0. This is because the device running Mediatek Preloader will
send handshake command "READY" immediately once the CDC-ACM driver is
ready.
This patch wants to fix above problem by introducing "DISABLE_ECHO"
property in driver_info. When Mediatek Preloader is connected, the
CDC-ACM driver could disable ECHO flag in termios to avoid the problem.

commit f976d0e5747ca65ccd0fb2a4118b193d70aa1836 upstream.
The usb standard ("Universal Serial Bus Class Definitions for Communication
Devices") distiguishes between "consistent signals" (DSR, DCD), and
"irregular signals" (break, ring, parity error, framing error, overrun).
The bits of "irregular signals" are set, if this error/event occurred on
the device side and are immeadeatly unset, if the serial state notification
was sent.
Like other drivers of real serial ports do, just the occurence of those
events should be counted in serial_icounter_struct (but no 1->0
transitions).

commit df3aa13c7bbb307e172c37f193f9a7aa058d4739 upstream.
This reverts commit a81cf9799ad7299b03a4dff020d9685f9ac5f3e0.
The patch causes a regression, which I cannot find the reason for.
So let's revert for now, as a revert hurts only performance.
Original report:
I was trying to resolve the problem with Oliver but we don't get any conclusion
for 5 months, so I am now sending this to mail list and cdc_acm authors.
I am using simple request-response protocol to obtain the boiller parameters
in constant intervals.
A simple one transaction is:
1. opening the /dev/ttyACM0
2. sending the following 10-bytes request to the device:
unsigned char req[] = {0x02, 0xfe, 0x01, 0x05, 0x08, 0x02, 0x01, 0x69, 0xab, 0x03};
3. reading response (frame of 74 bytes length).
4. closing the descriptor
I am doing this transaction with 5 seconds intervals.
Before the bad commit everything was working correctly: I've got a requests and
a responses in a timely manner.
After the bad commit more time I am using the kernel module, more problems I have.
The graph [2] is showing the problem.
As you can see after module load all seems fine but after about 30 minutes I've got
a plenty of EAGAINs when doing read()'s and trying to read back the data.
When I rmmod and insmod the cdc_acm module again, then the situation is starting
over again: running ok shortly after load, and more time it is running, more EAGAINs
I have when calling read().
As a bonus I can see the problem on the device itself:
The device is configured as you can see here on this screen [3].
It has two transmision LEDs: TX and RX. Blink duration is set for 100ms.
This is a recording before the bad commit when all is working fine: [4]
And this is with the bad commit: [5]
As you can see the TX led is blinking wrongly long (indicating transmission?)
and I have problems doing read() calls (EAGAIN).

service_outstanding_interrupt()
commit 6e22e3af7bb3a7b9dc53cb4687659f6e63fca427 upstream.
wdm_in_callback() is a completion handler function for the USB driver.
So it should not sleep. But it calls service_outstanding_interrupt(),
which calls usb_submit_urb() with GFP_KERNEL.
To fix this bug, GFP_KERNEL is replaced with GFP_ATOMIC.

[ Upstream commit b86b8eb6fecb5a4bac1ed0ca925c4082a61ea6e9 ]
ACM driver may accept data to transmit while system is not fully
resumed. In this case ACM driver buffers data and prepare URBs
on usb anchor list.
There is a little chance that two tasks put a char and initiate
acm_tty_flush_chars(). In such a case, driver will put one URB
twice on usb anchor list.
This patch also reset length of data before resue of a buffer.
This not only prevent sending rubbish, but also lower risc of race.
Without this patch we hit following kernel panic in one of our
stabilty/stress tests.

commit f0386c083c2ce85284dc0b419d7b89c8e567c09f upstream.
When disconnected sometimes the cdc-acm driver logs errors like these:
[20278.039417] cdc_acm 2-2:2.1: urb 9 failed submission with -19
[20278.042924] cdc_acm 2-2:2.1: urb 10 failed submission with -19
[20278.046449] cdc_acm 2-2:2.1: urb 11 failed submission with -19
[20278.049920] cdc_acm 2-2:2.1: urb 12 failed submission with -19
[20278.053442] cdc_acm 2-2:2.1: urb 13 failed submission with -19
[20278.056915] cdc_acm 2-2:2.1: urb 14 failed submission with -19
[20278.060418] cdc_acm 2-2:2.1: urb 15 failed submission with -19
Silence these by not logging errors when the result is -ENODEV.

commit 765fb2f181cad669f2beb87842a05d8071f2be85 upstream.
Elatec TWN3 has the union descriptor on data interface. This results in
failure to bind the device to the driver with the following log:
usb 1-1.2: new full speed USB device using streamplug-ehci and address 4
usb 1-1.2: New USB device found, idVendor=09d8, idProduct=0320
usb 1-1.2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0

usb 1-1.2: Manufacturer: OEM
cdc_acm 1-1.2:1.0: Zero length descriptor references
cdc_acm: probe of 1-1.2:1.0 failed with error -22
Adding the NO_UNION_NORMAL quirk for the device fixes the issue.

commit 8fec9355a968ad240f3a2e9ad55b823cf1cc52ff upstream.
The driver will forward errors to userspace after turning most of them
into -EIO. But all status codes are not equal. The -EPIPE (stall) in
particular can be seen more as a result of normal USB signaling than
an actual error. The state is automatically cleared by the USB core
without intervention from either driver or userspace.
And most devices and firmwares will never trigger a stall as a result
of GetEncapsulatedResponse. This is in fact a requirement for CDC WDM
devices. Quoting from section 7.1 of the CDC WMC spec revision 1.1:
The function shall not return STALL in response to
GetEncapsulatedResponse.
But this driver is also handling GetEncapsulatedResponse on behalf of
the qmi_wwan and cdc_mbim drivers. Unfortunately the relevant specs
are not as clear wrt stall. So some QMI and MBIM devices *will*
occasionally stall, causing the GetEncapsulatedResponse to return an
-EPIPE status. Translating this into -EIO for userspace has proven to
be harmful. Treating it as an empty read is safer, making the driver
behave as if the device was conforming to the CDC WDM spec.
There have been numerous reports of issues related to -EPIPE errors
from some newer CDC MBIM devices in particular, like for example the
Fibocom L831-EAU. Testing on this device has shown that the issues
go away if we simply ignore the -EPIPE status. Similar handling of
-EPIPE is already known from e.g. usb_get_string()
The -EPIPE log message is still kept to let us track devices with this
unexpected behaviour, hoping that it attracts attention from firmware
developers.

commit 1bb9914e1730417d530de9ed37e59efdc647146b upstream.
Notifications may only be 8 bytes long. Accessing the 9th and
10th byte of unimplemented/unknown notifications may be insecure.
Also check the length of known notifications before accessing anything
behind the 8th byte.

commit 19445816996d1a89682c37685fe95959631d9f32 upstream.
This reverts commit 833415a3e781 ("cdc-wdm: fix "out-of-sync" due to
missing notifications")
There have been several reports of wdm_read returning unexpected EIO
errors with QMI devices using the qmi_wwan driver. The reporters
confirm that reverting prevents these errors. I have been unable to
reproduce the bug myself, and have no explanation to offer either. But
reverting is the safe choice here, given that the commit was an
attempt to work around a firmware problem. Living with a firmware
problem is still better than adding driver bugs.

commit 2e47c53503eb9faff42b3cfa144a833344dd1f89 upstream.
Make sure to initialise the return value to avoid having allocation
failures going unnoticed when allocating interrupt-endpoint resources.
This prevents use-after-free or worse when the device is later unbound.

commit 687e0687f71ec00e0132a21fef802dee88c2f1ad upstream.
USBTMC devices are required to have a bulk-in and a bulk-out endpoint,
but the driver failed to verify this, something which could lead to the
endpoint addresses being taken from uninitialised memory.
Make sure to zero all private data as part of allocation, and add the
missing endpoint sanity check.
Note that this also addresses a more recently introduced issue, where
the interrupt-in-presence flag would also be uninitialised whenever the
optional interrupt-in endpoint is not present. This in turn could lead
to an interrupt urb being allocated, initialised and submitted based on
uninitialised values.

The TIOCMIWAIT implementation would return -EINVAL if any of the three
supported signals were included in the mask.
Instead of returning an error in case TIOCM_CTS is included, simply
drop the mask check completely, which is in accordance with how other
drivers implement this ioctl.

This reverts commit e6c7efdcb76f11b04e3d3f71c8d764ab75c9423b.
Turns out it was totally wrong. The memory is supposed to be bound to
the kref, as the original code was doing correctly, not the
device/driver binding as the devm_kzalloc() would cause.
This fixes an oops when read would be called after the device was
unbound from the driver.
