2022-04-23usb: remove third argument of usb_maxpacket()Vincent Mailhol1-2/+2
The third argument of usb_maxpacket(): in_out has been deprecated because it could be derived from the second argument (e.g. using usb_pipeout(pipe)). N.B. function usb_maxpacket() was made variadic to accommodate the transition from the old prototype with three arguments to the new one with only two arguments (so that no renaming is needed). The variadic argument is to be removed once all users of usb_maxpacket() get migrated. 2021-01-26usb/c67x00: Replace tasklet with workDavidlohr Bueso2-6/+8
Tasklets have long been deprecated as being too heavy on the system by running in irq context - and this is not a performance critical path. If a higher priority process wants to run, it must wait for the tasklet to finish before doing so. c67x00_do_work() will now run in process context and have further concurrency (tasklets being serialized among themselves), but this is done holding the c67x00->lock, so it should be fine. Furthermore, this patch fixes the usage of the lock in the callback as otherwise it would need to be irq-safe. 2020-03-17USB: c67x00: Use the correct style for SPDX License IdentifierNishad Kamdar2-2/+2
This patch corrects the SPDX License Identifier style in header files related to Cypress C67X00 USB Controller. For C header files Documentation/process/license-rules.rst mandates C-like comments (opposed to C source files where C++ style should be used). Changes made by using a script provided by Joe Perches here: https://lkml.org/lkml/2019/2/7/46. 2017-11-07USB: add SPDX identifiers to all remaining MakefilesGreg Kroah-Hartman1-0/+1
It's good to have SPDX identifiers in all files to make it easier to audit the kernel tree for correct licenses. This updates the remaining drivers/usb/*Makefile* that were missing SPDX identifiers. They all get the following identifier: SPDX-License-Identifier: GPL-2.0 The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. 2017-11-07USB: c67x00: Remove redundant license textGreg Kroah-Hartman6-90/+0
Now that the SPDX tag is in all USB files, that identifies the license in a specific and legally-defined manner. So the extra GPL text wording can be removed as it is no longer needed at all. This is done on a quest to remove the 700+ different ways that files in the kernel describe the GPL license text. And there's unneeded stuff like the address (sometimes incorrect) for the FSF which is never needed. No copyright headers or other non-license-description text was removed. 2017-11-04USB: add SPDX identifiers to all remaining files in drivers/usb/Greg Kroah-Hartman6-0/+6
It's good to have SPDX identifiers in all files to make it easier to audit the kernel tree for correct licenses. Update the drivers/usb/ and include/linux/usb* files with the correct SPDX license identifier based on the license text in the file itself. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. 2011-11-15USB: Remove the SAW_IRQ hcd flagAlan Stern1-1/+0
The HCD_FLAG_SAW_IRQ flag was introduced in order to catch IRQ routing errors: If an URB was unlinked and the host controller hadn't gotten any IRQs, it seemed likely that the IRQs were directed to the wrong vector. This warning hasn't come up in many years, as far as I know; interrupt routing now seems to be well under control. Therefore there's no reason to keep the flag around any more. This patch (as1495) finally removes it. Signed-off-by: Alan Stern <stern@rowland.harvard.edu> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>

2010-08-11USB: convert usb_hcd bitfields into atomic flagsAlan Stern1-2/+2
This patch (as1393) converts several of the single-bit fields in struct usb_hcd to atomic flags. This is for safety's sake; not all CPUs can update bitfield values atomically, and these flags are used in multiple contexts. The flag fields that are set only during registration or removal can remain as they are, since non-atomic accesses at those times will not cause any problems. (Strictly speaking, the authorized_default flag should become atomic as well. I didn't bother with it because it gets changed only via sysfs. It can be done later, if anyone wants.) 2010-05-21USB: make hcd.h public (drivers dependency)Eric Lescouet1-1/+1
The usbcore headers: hcd.h and hub.h are shared between usbcore, HCDs and a couple of other drivers (e.g. USBIP modules). So, it makes sense to move them into a more public location and to cleanup dependency of those modules on kernel internal headers. This patch moves hcd.h from drivers/usb/core into include/linux/usb/ Signed-of-by: Eric Lescouet <eric@lescouet.org> Cc: Alan Stern <stern@rowland.harvard.edu> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
2010-03-30include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo2-0/+2
implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch.
