In __ufshcd_wl_suspend(), cancel_delayed_work_sync() is called to cancel
the UFS RTC work, but it is placed after ufshcd_vops_suspend(hba, pm_op,
POST_CHANGE). This creates a race condition where ufshcd_rtc_work() can
still be running while ufshcd_vops_suspend() is executing. When
UFSHCD_CAP_CLK_GATING is not supported, the condition
!hba->clk_gating.active_reqs is always true, causing ufshcd_update_rtc()
to be executed. Since ufshcd_vops_suspend() typically performs clock
gating operations, executing ufshcd_update_rtc() at that moment triggers

Fix this by moving cancel_delayed_work_sync() before the call to

According to JESD223F, the maximum number of queues (MAXQ) is 32. When MCQ
is enabled and ESI is disabled, nr_hw_queues=32 causes a shift overflow
problem.
Fix this by using 64-bit intermediate values to handle the nr_hw_queues=32
case safely.

The kernel log indicates a crash in ufshcd_add_command_trace, due to a NULL
pointer dereference when accessing hwq->id. This can happen if
ufshcd_mcq_req_to_hwq() returns NULL.
This patch adds a NULL check for hwq before accessing its id field to
prevent a kernel crash.

Move the link recovery trigger from ufshcd_uic_pwr_ctrl() to
__ufshcd_wl_resume(). Ensure link recovery is only attempted when hibern8
exit fails during resume, not during hibern8 enter in suspend. Improve
error handling and prevent unnecessary link recovery attempts.

Ensure that the exception event handling work is explicitly flushed during
suspend when the runtime power management level is set to UFS_PM_LVL_0.
When the RPM level is zero, the device power mode and link state both
remain active. Previously, the UFS core driver bypassed flushing exception
event handling jobs in this configuration. This created a race condition
where the driver could attempt to access the host controller to handle an
exception after the system had already entered a deep power-down state,
resulting in a system crash.
Explicitly flush this work and disable auto BKOPs before the suspend
callback proceeds. This guarantees that pending exception tasks complete
and prevents illegal hardware access during the power-down sequence.

When a W-LUN resume fails, its parent devices in the SCSI hierarchy,
including the scsi_target, may be runtime suspended. Subsequently, the
error handler in ufshcd_recover_pm_error() fails to set the W-LUN device
back to active because the parent target is not active. This results in
the following errors:

Address this by:
1. Ensuring the W-LUN's parent scsi_target is runtime resumed before
attempting to set the W-LUN to active within
ufshcd_recover_pm_error().
2. Explicitly checking for power.runtime_error on the HBA and W-LUN
devices before calling pm_runtime_set_active() to clear the error
state.
3. Adding pm_runtime_get_sync(hba->dev) in
ufshcd_err_handling_prepare() to ensure the HBA itself is active
during error recovery, even if a child device resume failed.
These changes ensure the device power states are managed correctly
during error recovery.

The function ufshcd_read_string_desc() was duplicating memory starting
from the beginning of struct uc_string_id, which included the length and
type fields. As a result, the allocated buffer contained unwanted
metadata in addition to the string itself.
The correct behavior is to duplicate only the Unicode character array in
the structure. Update the code so that only the actual string content is
copied into the new buffer.

ufshcd_link_startup() has a facility (link_startup_again) to issue
DME_LINKSTARTUP a 2nd time even though the 1st time was successful.
Some older hardware benefits from that, however the behaviour is
non-standard, and has been found to cause link startup to be unreliable
for some Intel Alder Lake based host controllers.
Add UFSHCD_QUIRK_PERFORM_LINK_STARTUP_ONCE to suppress
link_startup_again, in preparation for setting the quirk for affected
controllers.

'Legacy Queue & Single Doorbell Support (LSDBS)' field in the controller
capabilities register is supposed to report whether the legacy single
doorbell mode is supported in the controller or not. But some controllers
report '1' in this field which corresponds to 'LSDB not supported', but
they indeed support LSDB. So let's add a quirk to handle those controllers.
If the quirk is enabled by the controller driver, then LSDBS register field
will be ignored and legacy single doorbell mode is assumed to be enabled
always.

Since the nonstandard inline encryption support on Exynos SoCs requires
that raw cryptographic keys be copied into the PRDT, it is desirable to
zeroize those keys after each request to keep them from being left in
memory. Therefore, add a quirk bit that enables the zeroization.
We could instead do the zeroization unconditionally. However, using a
quirk bit avoids adding the zeroization overhead to standard devices.

Add a variant op to allow host drivers to initialize nonstandard
crypto-related fields in the PRDT. This is needed to support inline
encryption on the "Exynos" UFS controller.
Note that this will be used together with the support for overriding the
PRDT entry size that was already added by commit ada1e653a5ea ("scsi: ufs:
core: Allow UFS host drivers to override the sg entry size").

Add UFSHCD_QUIRK_CUSTOM_CRYPTO_PROFILE which lets UFS host drivers
initialize the blk_crypto_profile themselves rather than have it be
initialized by ufshcd-core according to the UFSHCI standard. This is
needed to support inline encryption on the "Exynos" UFS controller which
has a nonstandard interface.

Some Kioxia UFS 4 devices do not support the qTimestamp attribute. Set
the UFS_DEVICE_QUIRK_NO_TIMESTAMP_SUPPORT for these devices such that no
error messages appear in the kernel log about failures to set the
qTimestamp attribute.

Improve the recovery process for hibernation exit failures. Trigger the
error handler and break the suspend operation to ensure effective
recovery from hibernation errors. Activate the error handling mechanism

Previous checks incorrectly tested the DMA addresses (dma_handle) for
NULL. Since dma_alloc_coherent() returns the CPU (virtual) address, the
NULL check should be performed on the *_base_addr pointer to correctly
detect allocation failures.
Update the checks to validate sqe_base_addr and cqe_base_addr instead of
sqe_dma_addr and cqe_dma_addr.

usage count, calling either pm_runtime_get_if_active() or
pm_runtime_get_if_in_use(). The former has an argument to tell whether to
ignore the usage count or not, and the latter simply calls the former with
ign_usage_count set to false. The other users that want to ignore the
usage_count will have to explicitly set that argument to true which is a
bit cumbersome.
To make this function more practical to use, remove the ign_usage_count
argument from the function. The main implementation is in a static
function called pm_runtime_get_conditional() and implementations of
pm_runtime_get_if_active() and pm_runtime_get_if_in_use() are moved to
runtime.c.

If the h8 exit fails during runtime resume process, the runtime thread
enters runtime suspend immediately and the error handler operates at the
same time. It becomes stuck and cannot be recovered through the error
handler. To fix this, use link recovery instead of the error handler.

UFS core is only scaling the clocks during devfreq scaling and
initialization. But for an optimum power saving, regulators should also be
scaled along with the clocks.
So let's use the OPP framework which supports scaling clocks, regulators,
and performance state using OPP table defined in devicetree. For
accomodating the OPP support, the existing APIs (ufshcd_scale_clks,
ufshcd_is_devfreq_scaling_required and ufshcd_devfreq_scale) are modified
to accept "freq" as an argument which in turn used by the OPP helpers.
The OPP support is added along with the old freq-table based clock scaling
so that the existing platforms work as expected.

When ufshcd_clk_scaling_suspend_work (thread A) running and new command
coming, ufshcd_clk_scaling_start_busy (thread B) may get host_lock after
thread A first time release host_lock. Then thread A second time get
host_lock will set clk_scaling.window_start_t = 0 which scale up clock
abnormal next polling_ms time. Also inlines another
__ufshcd_suspend_clkscaling calls.

When preparing for UFS clock scaling, the UFS driver will quiesce all
sdevs queues in the UFS SCSI host tagset list and then unquiesce them in
ufshcd_clock_scaling_unprepare(). If the UFS SCSI host async scan is in
progress at this time, some LUs may be added to the tagset list between
UFS clkscale prepare and unprepare. This can cause two issues:
1. During clock scaling, there may be I/O requests issued through new
added queues that have not been quiesced, leading to task abort issue.
2. These new added queues that have not been quiesced will be unquiesced
as well when UFS clkscale is unprepared, resulting in warning prints.
Therefore, use the mutex lock scan_mutex in
ufshcd_clock_scaling_prepare() and ufshcd_clock_scaling_unprepare() to
protect it.

ufshcd_err_handling_prepare() calls ufshcd_rpm_get_sync(). The latter
function can only succeed if UFSHCD_EH_IN_PROGRESS is not set because
resuming involves submitting a SCSI command and ufshcd_queuecommand()
returns SCSI_MLQUEUE_HOST_BUSY if UFSHCD_EH_IN_PROGRESS is set. Fix this
hang by setting UFSHCD_EH_IN_PROGRESS after ufshcd_rpm_get_sync() has
been called instead of before.

After UFS_ABORT_TASK has been processed successfully, the host will
generate MCQ IRQ for ABORT TAG with response OCS_ABORTED. This results in
ufshcd_compl_one_cqe() calling ufshcd_release_scsi_cmd().
But ufshcd_mcq_abort() already calls ufshcd_release_scsi_cmd(), resulting
in __ufshcd_release() being called twice. This means
hba->clk_gating.active_reqs will be decreased twice, making it go
negative.
Delete ufshcd_release_scsi_cmd() in ufshcd_mcq_abort().

Samsung UFS devices require additional time in hibern8 mode before
exiting, beyond the negotiated handshaking phase between the host and
device. Introduce a quirk to increase the PA_HIBERN8TIME parameter by
100 µs, a value derived from experiments, to ensure a proper hibernation
process.

A race can occur between the MCQ completion path and the abort handler:
once a request completes, __blk_mq_free_request() sets rq->mq_hctx to
NULL, meaning the subsequent ufshcd_mcq_req_to_hwq() call in
ufshcd_mcq_abort() can return a NULL pointer. If this NULL pointer is
dereferenced, the kernel will crash.
Add a NULL check for the returned hwq pointer. If hwq is NULL, log an
error and return FAILED, preventing a potential NULL-pointer
dereference. As suggested by Bart, the ufshcd_cmd_inflight() check is
removed.
This is similar to the fix in commit 74736103fb41 ("scsi: ufs: core: Fix
ufshcd_abort_one racing issue").
This is found by our static analysis tool KNighter.

Currently, RTC work is only cancelled during __ufshcd_wl_suspend(). When
ufshcd is removed in ufshcd_remove(), RTC work is not cancelled. Due to

If ufshcd_rtc_work calls ufshcd_rpm_put_sync() and the pm's usage_count
is 0, we will enter the runtime suspend callback. However, the runtime
suspend callback will wait to flush ufshcd_rtc_work, causing a deadlock.
Replace ufshcd_rpm_put_sync() with ufshcd_rpm_put() to avoid the
deadlock.

Add Real Time Clock (RTC) support for UFS device. This enhancement is
crucial for the internal maintenance operations of the UFS device. The
patch enables the device to handle both absolute and relative time
information. Furthermore, it includes periodic task to update the RTC in
accordance with the UFS Spec, ensuring the accuracy of RTC information for
the device's internal processes.
RTC and qTimestamp serve distinct purposes. The RTC provides a coarse level
of granularity with, at best, approximate single-second resolution. This
makes the RTC well-suited for the device to determine the approximate age
of programmed blocks after being updated by the host. On the other hand,
qTimestamp offers nanosecond granularity and is specifically designed for
synchronizing Device Error Log entries with corresponding host-side logs.
Given that the RTC has been a standard feature since UFS Spec 2.0, and
qTimestamp was introduced in UFS Spec 4.0, the majority of UFS devices
currently on the market rely on RTC. Therefore, it is advisable to continue
supporting RTC in the Linux kernel. This ensures compatibility with the
prevailing UFS device implementations and facilitates seamless integration
with existing hardware. By maintaining support for RTC, we ensure broad
compatibility and avoid potential issues arising from deviations in device
specifications across different UFS versions.

ufs_qcom_power_up_sequence()

PHY might already be powered on during ufs_qcom_power_up_sequence() in a
couple of cases:
1. During UFSHCD_QUIRK_REINIT_AFTER_MAX_GEAR_SWITCH quirk
2. Resuming from spm_lvl = 5 suspend
In those cases, it is necessary to call phy_power_off() and phy_exit() in
ufs_qcom_power_up_sequence() function to power off the PHY before calling
phy_init() and phy_power_on().
Case (1) is doing it via ufs_qcom_reinit_notify() callback, but case (2) is
not handled. So to satisfy both cases, call phy_power_off() and phy_exit()
if the phy_count is non-zero. And with this change, the reinit_notify()
callback is no longer needed.
This fixes the below UFS resume failure with spm_lvl = 5:

lrbp->compl_time_stamp_local_clock is set to zero after sending a sqe
but it is not updated after completing a cqe. Thus the printed
information in ufshcd_print_tr() will always be zero.
Update lrbp->cmpl_time_stamp_local_clock after completing a cqe.

ufs_hba_variant_ops::set_dma_mask. Update the Renesas driver
accordingly. This patch enables supporting other configurations than

When the power mode change is successful but the power mode hasn't
actually changed, the post notification was missed. Similar to the
approach with hibernate/clock scale/hce enable, having pre/post
notifications in the same function will make it easier to maintain.
Additionally, supplement the description of power parameters for the
pwr_change_notify callback.

User layer applications can send UIC GET/SET commands via the BSG
framework, and if the user layer application sends a UIC SET command to the
PA_PWRMODE attribute, a power mode change shall be initiated in UniPro and
two interrupts shall be triggered if the power mode is successfully
changed, i.e., UIC Command Completion interrupt and UIC Power Mode
interrupt.
The current UFS BSG code calls ufshcd_send_uic_cmd() directly, with which
the second interrupt, i.e., UIC Power Mode interrupt, shall be treated as
unhandled interrupt. In addition, after the UIC command is completed, user
layer application has to poll UniPro and/or M-PHY state machine to confirm
the power mode change is finished.
Add a new wrapper function ufshcd_send_bsg_uic_cmd() and call it from
ufs_bsg_request() so that if a UIC SET command is targeting the PA_PWRMODE
attribute it can be redirected to ufshcd_uic_pwr_ctrl().
