2022-10-26serial: 8250: Fix restoring termios speed after suspendPali Rohár1-1/+6
[ Upstream commit 379a33786d489ab81885ff0b3935cfeb36137fea ] Since commit edc6afc54968 ("tty: switch to ktermios and new framework") termios speed is no longer stored only in c_cflag member but also in new additional c_ispeed and c_ospeed members. If BOTHER flag is set in c_cflag then termios speed is stored only in these new members. Since commit 027b57170bf8 ("serial: core: Fix initializing and restoring termios speed") termios speed is available also in struct console. So properly restore also c_ispeed and c_ospeed members after suspend to fix restoring termios speed which is not represented by Bnnn constant. commit 566f9c9f89337792070b5a6062dff448b3e7977f upstream. When changing the console font with ioctl(KDFONTOP) the new font size can be bigger than the previous font. A previous selection may thus now be outside of the new screen size and thus trigger out-of-bounds accesses to graphics memory if the selection is removed in vc_do_resize(). Prevent such out-of-memory accesses by dropping the selection before the various con_font_set() console handlers are called. 2022-07-29tty: use new tty_insert_flip_string_and_push_buffer() in pty_write()Jiri Slaby2-12/+33
commit a501ab75e7624d133a5a3c7ec010687c8b961d23 upstream. There is a race in pty_write(). pty_write() can be called in parallel with e.g. ioctl(TIOCSTI) or ioctl(TCXONC) which also inserts chars to the buffer. Provided, tty_flip_buffer_push() in pty_write() is called outside the lock, it can commit inconsistent tail. This can lead to out of bounds writes and other issues. See the Link below. To fix this, we have to introduce a new helper called tty_insert_flip_string_and_push_buffer(). It does both tty_insert_flip_string() and tty_flip_buffer_commit() under the port lock. It also calls queue_work(), but outside the lock. See 71a174b39f10 (pty: do tty_flip_buffer_push without port->lock in pty_write) for the reasons. Keep the helper internal-only (in drivers' tty.h). It is not intended to be used widely. 2022-07-02vt: drop old FONT ioctlsJiri Slaby2-180/+3
commit ff2047fb755d4415ec3c70ac799889371151796d upstream. Drop support for these ioctls: * PIO_FONT, PIO_FONTX * GIO_FONT, GIO_FONTX * PIO_FONTRESET As was demonstrated by commit 90bfdeef83f1 (tty: make FONTX ioctl use the tty pointer they were actually passed), these ioctls are not used from userspace, as: 1) they used to be broken (set up font on current console, not the open one) and racy (before the commit above) 2) KDFONTOP ioctl is used for years instead Note that PIO_FONTRESET is defunct on most systems as VGA_CONSOLE is set on them for ages. That turns on BROKEN_GRAPHICS_PROGRAMS which makes PIO_FONTRESET just return an error. We are removing KD_FONT_FLAG_OLD here as it was used only by these removed ioctls. kd.h header exists both in kernel and uapi headers, so we can remove the kernel one completely. Everyone includeing kd.h will now automatically get the uapi one. There are now unused definitions of the ioctl numbers and "struct consolefontdesc" in kd.h, but as it is a uapi header, I am not touching these. 2022-06-25serial: 8250: Store to lsr_save_flags after lsr readIlpo Järvinen1-0/+2
commit be03b0651ffd8bab69dfd574c6818b446c0753ce upstream. Not all LSR register flags are preserved across reads. Therefore, LSR readers must store the non-preserved bits into lsr_save_flags. This fix was initially mixed into feature commit f6f586102add ("serial: 8250: Handle UART without interrupt on TEMT using em485"). However, that feature change had a flaw and it was reverted to make room for simpler approach providing the same feature. The embedded fix got reverted with the feature change. We hold sport->port.lock in position (1) of thread 1 and use del_timer_sync() to wait timer to stop, but timer handler also need sport->port.lock in position (2) of thread 2. If the device is a console, it was already previously registered and could be actively printing messages. Since the startup() callback is reading/writing registers used by the console write() callback (AML_UART_CONTROL), its access must be synchronized using the port->lock. Currently it is not. The startup() callback is the only function that explicitly enables interrupts. Without the synchronization, it is possible that interrupts become accidentally permanently disabled. This can cause a deadlock in the scenario reported by syz-bot below: CPU0 CPU1 CPU2 ---- ---- ---- lock(console_owner); lock(&port_lock_key); lock(&port->lock); lock(&port_lock_key); lock(&port->lock); lock(console_owner); As commit dbdda842fe96 ("printk: Add console owner and waiter logic to load balance console writes") said, such deadlock can be prevented by using printk_deferred() in kmalloc() (which is invoked in the section guarded by the port->lock). But there are too many printk() on the kmalloc() path, and kmalloc() can be called from anywhere, so changing printk() to printk_deferred() is too complicated and inelegant. Therefore, this patch chooses to specify __GFP_NOWARN to kmalloc(), so that printk() will not be called, and this deadlock problem can be avoided. Syzbot reported the following lockdep error: ====================================================== WARNING: possible circular locking dependency detected 5.4.143-00237-g08ccc19a-dirty #10 Not tainted ------------------------------------------------------ syz-executor.4/29420 is trying to acquire lock: ffffffff8aedb2a0 (console_owner){....}-{0:0}, at: console_trylock_spinning kernel/printk/printk.c:1752 [inline] ffffffff8aedb2a0 (console_owner){....}-{0:0}, at: vprintk_emit+0x2ca/0x470 kernel/printk/printk.c:2023 but task is already holding lock: ffff8880119c9158 (&port->lock){-.-.}-{2:2}, at: pty_write+0xf4/0x1f0 drivers/tty/pty.c:120 which lock already depends on the new lock. the existing dependency chain (in reverse order) is: -> #2 (&port->lock){-.-.}-{2:2}: __raw_spin_lock_irqsave include/linux/spinlock_api_smp.h:110 [inline] _raw_spin_lock_irqsave+0x35/0x50 kernel/locking/spinlock.c:159 tty_port_tty_get drivers/tty/tty_port.c:288 [inline] <-- lock(&port->lock); tty_port_default_wakeup+0x1d/0xb0 drivers/tty/tty_port.c:47 serial8250_tx_chars+0x530/0xa80 drivers/tty/serial/8250/8250_port.c:1767 serial8250_handle_irq.part.0+0x31f/0x3d0 drivers/tty/serial/8250/8250_port.c:1854 serial8250_handle_irq drivers/tty/serial/8250/8250_port.c:1827 [inline] <-- lock(&port_lock_key); serial8250_default_handle_irq+0xb2/0x220 drivers/tty/serial/8250/8250_port.c:1870 serial8250_interrupt+0xfd/0x200 drivers/tty/serial/8250/8250_core.c:126 __handle_irq_event_percpu+0x109/0xa50 kernel/irq/handle.c:156 [...] -> #1 (&port_lock_key){-.-.}-{2:2}: __raw_spin_lock_irqsave include/linux/spinlock_api_smp.h:110 [inline] _raw_spin_lock_irqsave+0x35/0x50 kernel/locking/spinlock.c:159 serial8250_console_write+0x184/0xa40 drivers/tty/serial/8250/8250_port.c:3198 <-- lock(&port_lock_key); call_console_drivers kernel/printk/printk.c:1819 [inline] console_unlock+0x8cb/0xd00 kernel/printk/printk.c:2504 vprintk_emit+0x1b5/0x470 kernel/printk/printk.c:2024 <-- lock(console_owner); vprintk_func+0x8d/0x250 kernel/printk/printk_safe.c:394 printk+0xba/0xed kernel/printk/printk.c:2084 register_console+0x8b3/0xc10 kernel/printk/printk.c:2829 univ8250_console_init+0x3a/0x46 drivers/tty/serial/8250/8250_core.c:681 console_init+0x49d/0x6d3 kernel/printk/printk.c:2915 start_kernel+0x5e9/0x879 init/main.c:713 secondary_startup_64+0xa4/0xb0 arch/x86/kernel/head_64.S:241 -> #0 (console_owner){....}-{0:0}: [...] lock_acquire+0x127/0x340 kernel/locking/lockdep.c:4734 console_trylock_spinning kernel/printk/printk.c:1773 [inline] <-- lock(console_owner); vprintk_emit+0x307/0x470 kernel/printk/printk.c:2023 vprintk_func+0x8d/0x250 kernel/printk/printk_safe.c:394 printk+0xba/0xed kernel/printk/printk.c:2084 fail_dump lib/fault-inject.c:45 [inline] should_fail+0x67b/0x7c0 lib/fault-inject.c:144 __should_failslab+0x152/0x1c0 mm/failslab.c:33 should_failslab+0x5/0x10 mm/slab_common.c:1224 slab_pre_alloc_hook mm/slab.h:468 [inline] slab_alloc_node mm/slub.c:2723 [inline] slab_alloc mm/slub.c:2807 [inline] __kmalloc+0x72/0x300 mm/slub.c:3871 kmalloc include/linux/slab.h:582 [inline] tty_buffer_alloc+0x23f/0x2a0 drivers/tty/tty_buffer.c:175 __tty_buffer_request_room+0x156/0x2a0 drivers/tty/tty_buffer.c:273 tty_insert_flip_string_fixed_flag+0x93/0x250 drivers/tty/tty_buffer.c:318 tty_insert_flip_string include/linux/tty_flip.h:37 [inline] pty_write+0x126/0x1f0 drivers/tty/pty.c:122 <-- lock(&port->lock); n_tty_write+0xa7a/0xfc0 drivers/tty/n_tty.c:2356 do_tty_write drivers/tty/tty_io.c:961 [inline] tty_write+0x512/0x930 drivers/tty/tty_io.c:1045 __vfs_write+0x76/0x100 fs/read_write.c:494 [...] other info that might help us debug this: Chain exists of: console_owner --> &port_lock_key --> &port->lock Link: https://lkml.kernel.org/r/20220511061951.1114-2-zhengqi.arch@bytedance.com Link: https://lkml.kernel.org/r/20220510113809.80626-2-zhengqi.arch@bytedance.com Fixes: b6da31b2c07c ("tty: Fix data race in tty_insert_flip_string_fixed_flag") Signed-off-by: Qi Zheng <zhengqi.arch@bytedance.com> Acked-by: Jiri Slaby <jirislaby@kernel.org> Acked-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org> Cc: Akinobu Mita <akinobu.mita@gmail.com> Cc: Vlastimil Babka <vbabka@suse.cz> Cc: Steven Rostedt (Google) <rostedt@goodmis.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Sasha Levin <sashal@kernel.org>

commit ff9166c623704337bd6fe66fce2838d9768a6634 upstream. n_gsm is based on the 3GPP 07.010 and its newer version is the 3GPP 27.010. See https://portal.3gpp.org/desktopmodules/Specifications/SpecificationDetails.aspx?specificationId=1516 The changes from 07.010 to 27.010 are non-functional. Therefore, I refer to the newer 27.010 here. Chapter 5.4.4.2 states that any received unnumbered acknowledgment (UA) with its poll/final (PF) bit set to 0 shall be discarded. Currently, all UA frame are handled in the same way regardless of the PF bit. This does not comply with the standard. Remove the UA case in gsm_queue() to process only UA frames with PF bit set to 1 to abide the standard. 2022-05-12tty: n_gsm: fix wrong command frame length field encodingDaniel Starke1-12/+11
commit 398867f59f956985f4c324f173eff7b946e14bd8 upstream. n_gsm is based on the 3GPP 07.010 and its newer version is the 3GPP 27.010. See https://portal.3gpp.org/desktopmodules/Specifications/SpecificationDetails.aspx?specificationId=1516 The changes from 07.010 to 27.010 are non-functional. Therefore, I refer to the newer 27.010 here. Chapter 5.4.6.1 states that each command frame shall be made up from type, length and value. Looking for example in chapter 5.4.6.3.5 at the description for the encoding of a flow control on command it becomes obvious, that the type and length field is always present whereas the value may be zero bytes long. The current implementation omits the length field if the value is not present. This is wrong. Correct this by always sending the length in gsm_control_transmit(). So far only the modem status command (MSC) has included a value and encoded its length directly. Therefore, also change gsmtty_modem_update(). Therefore, I refer to the newer 27.010 here. Chapter 5.7.3 states that the valid range for the maximum number of retransmissions (N2) is from 0 to 255 (both including). gsm_config() fails to limit this range correctly. Furthermore, gsm_control_retransmit() handles this number incorrectly by performing N2 - 1 retransmission attempts. Setting N2 to zero results in more than 255 retransmission attempts. Fix the range check in gsm_config() and the value handling in gsm_control_send() and gsm_control_retransmit() to comply with 3GPP 27.010. However, 'txframe' stores the whole frame including frame header, checksum and start/end flags. We also need to consider the byte stuffing overhead. Define constant for the protocol overhead and adjust the 'txframe' size calculation accordingly to reserve enough space for a complete mux frame including byte stuffing for advanced option mode. Note that no byte stuffing is applied to the start and end flag. Also use MAX_MTU instead of MAX_MRU as this buffer is used for data transmission. This is set 1 for the last byte in the sequence. gsmtty_modem_update() handles this correctly but gsm_dlci_data_output() fails to set EA to 1. There is no case in which we encode two signal octets as there is no case in which we send out a break signal. Therefore, always set the EA bit to 1 for the signal octet to fix this. commit 637674fa40059cddcc3ad2212728965072f62ea3 upstream. The EndRun PTP/1588 dual serial port device is based on the Oxford Semiconductor OXPCIe952 UART device with the PCI vendor:device ID set for EndRun Technologies and is therefore driven by a fixed 62.5MHz clock input derived from the 100MHz PCI Express clock. [ Upstream commit 988c7c00691008ea1daaa1235680a0da49dab4e8 ] The commit c15c3747ee32 (serial: samsung: fix potential soft lockup during uart write) added an unlock of port->lock before uart_write_wakeup() and a lock after it. It was always problematic to write data from tty_ldisc_ops::write_wakeup and it was even documented that way. We fixed the line disciplines to conform to this recently. So if there is still a missed one, we should fix them instead of this workaround. commit 737b0ef3be6b319d6c1fd64193d1603311969326 upstream. n_gsm is based on the 3GPP 07.010 and its newer version is the 3GPP 27.010. See https://portal.3gpp.org/desktopmodules/Specifications/SpecificationDetails.aspx?specificationId=1516 The changes from 07.010 to 27.010 are non-functional. Therefore, I refer to the newer 27.010 here. Chapter 5.4.6.3.7 describes the encoding of the control signal octet used by the MSC (modem status command). The same encoding is also used in convergence layer type 2 as described in chapter 5.5.2. Table 7 and 24 both require the DV (data valid) bit to be set 1 for outgoing control signal octets sent by the DTE (data terminal equipment), i.e. for the initiator side. Currently, the DV bit is only set if CD (carrier detect) is on, regardless of the side. This patch fixes this behavior by setting the DV bit on the initiator side unconditionally. 2022-03-02serial: 8250: of: Fix mapped region size when using reg-offset propertyRobert Hancock1-1/+10
commit d06b1cf28297e27127d3da54753a3a01a2fa2f28 upstream. 8250_of supports a reg-offset property which is intended to handle cases where the device registers start at an offset inside the region of memory allocated to the device. The Xilinx 16550 UART, for which this support was initially added, requires this. However, the code did not adjust the overall size of the mapped region accordingly, causing the driver to request an area of memory past the end of the device's allocation. For example, if the UART was allocated an address of 0xb0130000, size of 0x10000 and reg-offset of 0x1000 in the device tree, the region of memory reserved was b0131000-b0140fff, which caused the driver for the region starting at b0140000 to fail to probe. Fix this by subtracting reg-offset from the mapped region size. Fixes: b912b5e2cfb3 ([POWERPC] Xilinx: of_serial support for Xilinx uart 16550.) commit 6e8793674bb0d1135ca0e5c9f7e16fecbf815926 upstream. There is a build error when using a kernel .config file from 'kernel test robot' for a different build problem: hppa64-linux-ld: drivers/tty/serial/8250/8250_gsc.o: in function `.LC3': (.data.rel.ro+0x18): undefined reference to `iosapic_serial_irq' when: CONFIG_GSC=y CONFIG_SERIO_GSCPS2=y CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_GSC=y CONFIG_PCI is not set and hence PCI_LBA is not set. 2022-02-16n_tty: wake up poll(POLLRDNORM) on receiving dataTATSUKAWA KOSUKE (立川 江介)1-2/+2
commit c816b2e65b0e86b95011418cad334f0524fc33b8 upstream. The poll man page says POLLRDNORM is equivalent to POLLIN when used as an event. $ man poll <snip> POLLRDNORM Equivalent to POLLIN. However, in n_tty driver, POLLRDNORM does not return until timeout even if there is terminal input, whereas POLLIN returns. The following test program works until kernel-3.17, but the test stops in poll() after commit 57087d515441 ("tty: Fix spurious poll() wakeups"). [Steps to run test program] $ cc -o test-pollrdnorm test-pollrdnorm.c $ ./test-pollrdnorm foo <-- Type in something from the terminal followed by [RET]. The string should be echoed back. ------------------------< test-pollrdnorm.c >------------------------ #include <stdio.h> #include <errno.h> #include <poll.h> #include <unistd.h> void main(void) { int n; unsigned char buf[8]; struct pollfd fds[1] = {{ 0, POLLRDNORM, 0 }}; n = poll(fds, 1, -1); if (n < 0) perror("poll"); n = read(0, buf, 8); if (n < 0) perror("read"); if (n > 0) write(1, buf, n); } ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The attached patch fixes this problem. Many calls to wake_up_interruptible_poll() in the kernel source code already specify "POLLIN | POLLRDNORM". 2022-02-08tty: n_gsm: fix SW flow control encoding/handlingdaniel.starke@siemens.com1-1/+3
commit 8838b2af23caf1ff0610caef2795d6668a013b2d upstream. n_gsm is based on the 3GPP 07.010 and its newer version is the 3GPP 27.010. See https://portal.3gpp.org/desktopmodules/Specifications/SpecificationDetails.aspx?specificationId=1516 The changes from 07.010 to 27.010 are non-functional. Therefore, I refer to the newer 27.010 here. Chapter 5.2.7.3 states that DC1 (XON) and DC3 (XOFF) are the control characters defined in ISO/IEC 646. These shall be quoted if seen in the data stream to avoid interpretation as flow control characters. ISO/IEC 646 refers to the set of ISO standards described as the ISO 7-bit coded character set for information interchange. Its final version is also known as ITU T.50. See https://www.itu.int/rec/T-REC-T.50-199209-I/en To abide the standard it is needed to quote DC1 and DC3 correctly if these are seen as data bytes and not as control characters. The current implementation already tries to enforce this but fails to catch all defined cases. 3GPP 27.010 chapter 5.2.7.3 clearly states that the most significant bit shall be ignored for DC1 and DC3 handling. The current implementation handles only the case with the most significant bit set 0. Cases in which DC1 and DC3 have the most significant bit set 1 are left unhandled. This patch fixes this by masking the data bytes with ISO_IEC_646_MASK (only the 7 least significant bits set 1) before comparing them with XON (a.k.a. DC1) and XOFF (a.k.a. DC3) when testing which byte values need quotation via byte stuffing.
