Commit fc96ec826bce ("spi: fsl-cpm: Use 16 bit mode for large transfers with even size") failed to make sure that the size is really even before switching to 16 bit mode. Until recently the problem went unnoticed because kernfs uses a pre-allocated bounce buffer of size PAGE_SIZE for reading EEPROM. But commit 8ad6249c51d0 ("eeprom: at25: convert to spi-mem API") introduced an additional dynamically allocated bounce buffer whose size is exactly the size of the transfer, leading to a buffer overrun in the fsl-cpm driver when that size is odd. Add the missing length parity verification and remain in 8 bit mode when the length is not even. [ Upstream commit 939edfaa10f1d22e6af6a84bf4bd96dc49c67302 ] SPI devices using a (relative) slow frequency need a larger time. For instance, microblaze running at 83.25MHz and performing a 3 bytes transaction using a 10MHz/16 = 625kHz needed this stall value increased to at least 20. The SPI device is quite slow, but also is the microblaze, so set this value to 32 to give it even more margin. 2025-12-07spi: bcm63xx: fix premature CS deassertion on RX-only transactionsHang Zhou1-0/+14
[ Upstream commit fd9862f726aedbc2f29a29916cabed7bcf5cadb6 ] On BCM6358 (and also observed on BCM6368) the controller appears to only generate as many SPI clocks as bytes that have been written into the TX FIFO. For RX-only transfers the driver programs the transfer length in SPI_MSG_CTL but does not write anything into the FIFO, so chip select is deasserted early and the RX transfer segment is never fully clocked in. A concrete failing case is a three-transfer MAC address read from SPI-NOR: - TX 0x03 (read command) - TX 3-byte address - RX 6 bytes (MAC) In contrast, a two-transfer JEDEC-ID read (0x9f + 6-byte RX) works because the driver uses prepend_len and writes dummy bytes into the TX FIFO for the RX part. Fix this by writing 0xff dummy bytes into the TX FIFO for RX-only segments so that the number of bytes written to the FIFO matches the total message length seen by the controller. Since commit d24cfee7f63d ("spi: Fix acpi deferred irq probe"), the acpi_dev_gpio_irq_get() call gets delayed till spi_probe() is called on the SPI device. If there is no driver for the SPI device then the move to spi_probe() results in acpi_dev_gpio_irq_get() never getting called. This may cause problems by leaving the GPIO pin floating because this call is responsible for setting up the GPIO pin direction and/or bias according to the values from the ACPI tables. Re-add the removed acpi_dev_gpio_irq_get() in acpi_register_spi_device() to ensure the GPIO pin is always correctly setup, while keeping the acpi_dev_gpio_irq_get() call added to spi_probe() to deal with -EPROBE_DEFER returns caused by the GPIO controller not having a driver yet. [ Upstream commit b832b19318534bb4f1673b24d78037fee339c679 ] In the past %pK was preferable to %p as it would not leak raw pointer values into the kernel log. Since commit ad67b74d2469 ("printk: hash addresses printed with %p") the regular %p has been improved to avoid this issue. Furthermore, restricted pointers ("%pK") were never meant to be used through printk(). They can still unintentionally leak raw pointers or acquire sleeping locks in atomic contexts. Switch to the regular pointer formatting which is safer and easier to reason about. There are still a few users of %pK left, but these use it through seq_file, for which its usage is safe. [ Upstream commit 1ad55767e77a853c98752ed1e33b68049a243bd7 ] cqspi_read_setup() and cqspi_write_setup() program the address width as the last step in the setup. This is likely to be immediately followed by a DAC region read/write. On TI K3 SoCs the DAC region is on a different endpoint from the register region. This means that the order of the two operations is not guaranteed, and they might be reordered at the interconnect level. It is possible that the DAC read/write goes through before the address width update goes through. In this situation if the previous command used a different address width the OSPI command is sent with the wrong number of address bytes, resulting in an invalid command and undefined behavior. Read back the size register to make sure the write gets flushed before accessing the DAC region. commit 29e0b471ccbd674d20d4bbddea1a51e7105212c5 upstream. cqspi_indirect_read_execute() and cqspi_indirect_write_execute() first set the enable bit on APB region and then start reading/writing to the AHB region. On TI K3 SoCs these regions lie on different endpoints. This means that the order of the two operations is not guaranteed, and they might be reordered at the interconnect level. It is possible for the AHB write to be executed before the APB write to enable the indirect controller, causing the transaction to be invalid and the write erroring out. Read back the APB region write before accessing the AHB region to make sure the write got flushed and the race condition is eliminated. The TDIE interrupt should not be disabled in all cases. If CONT is used and the TX transfer is not yet completed yet, but the interrupt handler is called because there are characters to be received, TDIE is replaced with FCIE. When the transfer is finally completed, SR_TDF is set but the interrupt handler isn't called again. [ Upstream commit fa60c094c19b97e103d653f528f8d9c178b6a5f5 ] In target mode, extra interrupts can be received between the end of a transfer and halting the module if the host continues sending more data. If the interrupt from this occurs after the reinit_completion() then the completion counter is left at a non-zero value. The next unrelated transfer initiated by userspace will then complete immediately without waiting for the interrupt or writing to the RX buffer. Fix it by resetting the counter before the transfer so that lingering values are cleared. This is done after clearing the FIFOs and the status register but before the transfer is initiated, so no interrupts should be received at this point resulting in other race conditions. [ Upstream commit 0941d5166629cb766000530945e54b4e49680c68 ] The maximum amount of data to transfer in a single DMA request is calculated from the FIFO sizes (which is technically not 100% correct, but a simplification, as it is limited by the maximum word count values in the Transmit and Control Data Registers). However, in case there is both data to transmit and to receive, the transmit limit is overwritten by the receive limit. Fix this by using the minimum applicable FIFO size instead. Move the calculation outside the loop, so it is not repeated for each individual DMA transfer. As currently tx_fifo_size is always equal to rx_fifo_size, this bug had no real impact. [ Upstream commit fb98bd0a13de2c9d96cb5c00c81b5ca118ac9d71 ] The SPI interface is activated before the CPOL setting is applied. In that moment, the clock idles high and CS goes low. After a short delay, CPOL and other settings are applied, which may cause the clock to change state and idle low. This transition is not part of a clock cycle, and it can confuse the receiving device. To prevent this unexpected transition, activate the interface while CPOL and the other settings are being applied. [ Upstream commit 7aba292eb15389073c7f3bd7847e3862dfdf604d ] If, in a previous transfer, the controller sends more data than expected by the DSPI target, SR.RFDF (RX FIFO is not empty) will remain asserted. When flushing the FIFOs at the beginning of a new transfer (writing 1 into MCR.CLR_TXF and MCR.CLR_RXF), SR.RFDF should also be cleared. Otherwise, when running in target mode with DMA, if SR.RFDF remains asserted, the DMA callback will be fired before the controller sends any data. Take this opportunity to reset all Status Register fields. [ Upstream commit 8a30a6d35a11ff5ccdede7d6740765685385a917 ] The XSPI mode implementation in this driver still uses the EOQ flag to signal the last word in a transmission and deassert the PCS signal. However, at speeds lower than ~200kHZ, the PCS signal seems to remain asserted even when SR[EOQF] = 1 indicates the end of a transmission. This is a problem for target devices which require the deassertation of the PCS signal between transfers. Hence, this commit 'forces' the deassertation of the PCS by stopping the module through MCR[HALT] after completing a new transfer. According to the reference manual, the module stops or transitions from the Running state to the Stopped state after the current frame, when any one of the following conditions exist: - The value of SR[EOQF] = 1. - The chip is in Debug mode and the value of MCR[FRZ] = 1. - The value of MCR[HALT] = 1. This shouldn't be done if the last transfer in the message has cs_change set. [ Upstream commit a73fa3690a1f3014d6677e368dce4e70767a6ba2 ] spi_test_print_hex_dump() prints buffers holding less than 1024 bytes in full. Larger buffers are truncated: only the first 512 and the last 512 bytes are printed, separated by a truncation message. The latter is confusing in case the buffer holds exactly 1024 bytes, as all data is printed anyway. Fix this by printing buffers holding up to and including 1024 bytes in full. 2025-05-02spi: cadence-qspi: Fix probe on AM62A LP SKMiquel Raynal1-0/+6
commit b8665a1b49f5498edb7b21d730030c06b7348a3c upstream. In 2020, there's been an unnoticed change which rightfully attempted to report probe deferrals upon DMA absence by checking the return value of dma_request_chan_by_mask(). By doing so, it also reported errors which were simply ignored otherwise, likely on purpose. This change actually turned a void return into an error code. Hence, not only the -EPROBE_DEFER error codes but all error codes got reported to the callers, now failing to probe in the absence of Rx DMA channel, despite the fact that DMA seems to not be supported natively by many implementations. Looking at the history, this change probably led to: ad2775dc3fc5 ("spi: cadence-quadspi: Disable the DAC for Intel LGM SoC") f724c296f2f2 ("spi: cadence-quadspi: fix Direct Access Mode disable for SoCFPGA") In my case, the AM62A LP SK core octo-SPI node from TI does not advertise any DMA channel, hinting that there is likely no support for it, but yet when the support for the am654 compatible was added, DMA seemed to be used, so just discarding its use with the CQSPI_DISABLE_DAC_MODE quirk for this compatible does not seem the correct approach. Let's get change the return condition back to: - return a probe deferral error if we get one - ignore the return value otherwise The "error" log level was however likely too high for something that is expected to fail, so let's lower it arbitrarily to the info level. 2024-11-17spi: Fix deadlock when adding SPI controllers on SPI busesMark Brown1-10/+5

Currently we have a global spi_add_lock which we take when adding new devices so that we can check that we're not trying to reuse a chip select that's already controlled. This means that if the SPI device is itself a SPI controller and triggers the instantiation of further SPI devices we trigger a deadlock as we try to register and instantiate those devices while in the process of doing so for the parent controller and hence already holding the global spi_add_lock. Since we only care about concurrency within a single SPI bus move the lock to be per controller, avoiding the deadlock. This can be easily triggered in the case of spi-mux. [ Upstream commit 730bbfaf7d4890bd99e637db7767dc68cfeb24e7 ] The effective SPI clock frequency should never exceed speed_hz otherwise this might result in undefined behavior of the SPI device. Currently the scldiv calculation could violate this constraint. For the example parameters perclk_rate = 24 MHz and speed_hz = 7 MHz, the function fsl_lpspi_set_bitrate will determine perscale = 0 and scldiv = 1, which is a effective SPI clock of 8 MHz. So fix this by rounding up the quotient of perclk_rate and speed_hz. While this never change within the loop, we can pull this out. Since commit e267a5b3ec59 ("spi: spi-imx: Use dev_err_probe for failed DMA channel requests") this results in an error message spi_imx 43fa4000.spi: error -ENODEV: can't get the TX DMA channel! during boot. However that isn't fatal and the driver gets loaded just fine, just without using DMA. However spurious interrupts tend to trigger continously and the error message on the serial console prevents that the core's detection of spurious interrupts kicks in (which disables the irq) and just floods the console.
