2022-11-26scsi: sg: Fix get_user() in call sg_scsi_ioctl()Kirill A. Shutemov1-1/+1
get_user() expects the pointer to be pointer-to-simple-variable type, but sic->data is array of 'unsigned char'. It violates get_user() contracts. Explicitly take pointer to the first element of the array. It matches current behaviour. This is preparation for fixing sparse warnings caused by Linear Address Masking patchset. 2022-07-27scsi: core: Fix warning in scsi_alloc_sgtables()Jason Yan1-1/+1
As explained in SG_IO howto[1]: "If iovec_count is non-zero then 'dxfer_len' should be equal to the sum of iov_len lengths. If not, the minimum of the two is the transfer length." When iovec_count is non-zero and dxfer_len is zero, the sg_io() just genarated a null bio, and finally caused a warning below. To fix it, skip generating a bio for this request if dxfer_len is zero. 2022-03-15scsi: scsi_ioctl: Drop needless assignment in sg_io()Lukas Bulwahn1-1/+0
Commit ce70fd9a551a ("scsi: core: Remove the cmd field from struct scsi_request") refactored sg_io(), so that it does not allocate directly and hence does not return -ENOMEM in its error case. That makes a remaining assignment of -ENOMEM to the return variable needless. Drop this needless assignment in sg_io(). No functional change. No change in resulting object code. 2022-03-02scsi: core: Remove the cmd field from struct scsi_requestChristoph Hellwig1-20/+17
Now that each scsi_request is backed by a scsi_cmnd, there is no need to indirect the CDB storage. Change all submitters of SCSI passthrough requests to store the CDB information directly in the scsi_cmnd, and while doing so allocate the full 32 bytes that cover all Linux supported SCSI hosts instead of requiring dynamic allocation for > 16 byte CDBs. On 64-bit systems this does not change the size of the scsi_cmnd at all, while on 32-bit systems it slightly increases it for now, but that increase will be made up by the removal of the remaining scsi_request fields. Add a new helper that calls blk_get_request and initializes the scsi_request to avoid the indirect call through ->.initialize_rq_fn. Note that this makes the pktcdvd driver depend on the SCSI core, but given that only SCSI devices support SCSI passthrough requests that is not a functional change. Nobody has actually used the type (VERIFY_READ vs VERIFY_WRITE) argument of the user address range verification function since we got rid of the old racy i386-only code to walk page tables by hand. It existed because the original 80386 would not honor the write protect bit when in kernel mode, so you had to do COW by hand before doing any user access. But we haven't supported that in a long time, and these days the 'type' argument is a purely historical artifact. A discussion about extending 'user_access_begin()' to do the range checking resulted this patch, because there is no way we're going to move the old VERIFY_xyz interface to that model. And it's best done at the end of the merge window when I've done most of my merges, so let's just get this done once and for all. This patch was mostly done with a sed-script, with manual fix-ups for the cases that weren't of the trivial 'access_ok(VERIFY_xyz' form. There were a couple of notable cases: - csky still had the old "verify_area()" name as an alias. - the iter_iov code had magical hardcoded knowledge of the actual values of VERIFY_{READ,WRITE} (not that they mattered, since nothing really used it) - microblaze used the type argument for a debug printout but other than those oddities this should be a total no-op patch. I tried to fix up all architectures, did fairly extensive grepping for access_ok() uses, and the changes are trivial, but I may have missed something. 2017-08-26scsi: Suppress gcc 7 fall-through warnings reported with W=1Bart Van Assche1-1/+3
The conclusion of a recent discussion about the new warnings reported by gcc 7 is that the new warnings reported when building with W=1 should be suppressed. However, gcc 7 still warns about fall-through in switch statements when building with W=1. Suppress these warnings by annotating the SCSI core properly. The calling conventions for this function are bad as it could return -ENODEV both for a device not currently online and a not recognized ioctl. Add a new scsi_ioctl_block_when_processing_errors function that wraps scsi_block_when_processing_errors with the a special case for the SG_SCSI_RESET ioctl command, and handle the SG_SCSI_RESET case itself in scsi_ioctl. All callers of scsi_ioctl now must call the above helper to check for the EH state, so that the ioctl handler itself doesn't have to.
