2020-01-27platform/x86: alienware-wmi: printing the wrong error codeDan Carpenter1-1/+1
[ Upstream commit 6d1f8b3d75419a8659ac916a1e9543bb3513a882 ] The "out_data" variable is uninitialized at the point. Originally, this used to print "status" instead and that seems like the correct thing to print. 2020-01-27platform/x86: alienware-wmi: fix kfree on potentially uninitialized pointerColin Ian King1-9/+8
[ Upstream commit 98e2630284ab741804bd0713e932e725466f2f84 ] Currently the kfree of output.pointer can be potentially freeing an uninitalized pointer in the case where out_data is NULL. Fix this by reworking the case where out_data is not-null to perform the ACPI status check and also the kfree of outpoint.pointer in one block and hence ensuring the pointer is only freed when it has been used. Also replace the if (ptr != NULL) idiom with just if (ptr). [ Upstream commit c355ec651a8941864549f2586f969d0eb7bf499a ] In the function wmi_dev_match() the variable id is dereferenced without first performing a NULL check. The variable can for example be NULL if a WMI driver is registered without specifying the id_table field in struct wmi_driver. Add a NULL check and return that the driver can't handle the device if the variable is NULL. 2020-01-17platform/x86: GPD pocket fan: Use default values when wrong modparams are givenHans de Goede1-6/+19
commit 6ae01050e49f0080ae30575d9b45a6d4a3d7ee23 upstream. Use our default values when wrong module-parameters are given, instead of refusing to load. Refusing to load leaves the fan at the BIOS default setting, which is "Off". The CPU's thermal throttling should protect the system from damage, but not-loading is really not the best fallback in this case. This commit fixes this by re-setting module-parameter values to their defaults if they are out of range, instead of failing the probe with -EINVAL. At least on the HP Envy x360 15-cp0xxx model the WMI interface for HPWMI_FEATURE2_QUERY requires an outsize of at least 128 bytes, otherwise it fails with an error code 5 (HPWMI_RET_INVALID_PARAMETERS): Dec 06 00:59:38 kernel: hp_wmi: query 0xd returned error 0x5 We do not care about the contents of the buffer, we just want to know if the HPWMI_FEATURE2_QUERY command is supported. 2019-12-05platform/x86: hp-wmi: Fix ACPI errors caused by passing 0 as input sizeHans de Goede1-2/+2
commit f3e4f3fc8ee9729c4b1b27a478c68b713df53c0c upstream. The AML code implementing the WMI methods creates a variable length field to hold the input data we pass like this: CreateDWordField (Arg1, 0x0C, DSZI) Local5 = DSZI /* \HWMC.DSZI */ CreateField (Arg1, 0x80, (Local5 * 0x08), DAIN) If we pass 0 as bios_args.datasize argument then (Local5 * 0x08) is 0 which results in these errors: [ 71.973305] ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Attempt to CreateField of length zero (20190816/dsopcode-133) [ 71.973332] ACPI Error: Aborting method \HWMC due to previous error (AE_AML_OPERAND_VALUE) (20190816/psparse-529) [ 71.973413] ACPI Error: Aborting method \_SB.WMID.WMAA due to previous error (AE_AML_OPERAND_VALUE) (20190816/psparse-529) And in our HPWMI_WIRELESS2_QUERY calls always failing. for read commands like HPWMI_WIRELESS2_QUERY the DSZI value is not used / checked, except for read commands where extra input is needed to specify exactly what to read. So for HPWMI_WIRELESS2_QUERY we can safely pass the size of the expected output as insize to hp_wmi_perform_query(), as we are already doing for all other HPWMI_READ commands we send. Doing so fixes these errors. 2019-12-05platform/x86: hp-wmi: Fix ACPI errors caused by too small bufferHans de Goede1-3/+3
commit 16245db1489cd9aa579506f64afeeeb13d825a93 upstream. The HP WMI calls may take up to 128 bytes of data as input, and the AML methods implementing the WMI calls, declare a couple of fields for accessing input in different sizes, specifycally the HWMC method contains: CreateField (Arg1, 0x80, 0x0400, D128) Even though we do not use any of the WMI command-types which need a buffer of this size, the APCI interpreter still tries to create it as it is declared in generoc code at the top of the HWMC method which runs before the code looks at which command-type is requested. This results in many of these errors on many different HP laptop models: [ 14.459261] ACPI Error: Field [D128] at 1152 exceeds Buffer [NULL] size 160 (bits) (20170303/dsopcode-236) [ 14.459268] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\HWMC] (Node ffff8edcc61507f8), AE_AML_BUFFER_LIMIT (20170303/psparse-543) [ 14.459279] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_SB.WMID.WMAA] (Node ffff8edcc61523c0), AE_AML_BUFFER_LIMIT (20170303/psparse-543) This commit increases the size of the data element of the bios_args struct to 128 bytes fixing these errors. 2019-12-01ACPI / scan: Create platform device for INT33FE ACPI nodesHans de Goede1-15/+9
[ Upstream commit 589edb56b424876cbbf61547b987a1f57d7ea99d ] Bay and Cherry Trail devices with a Dollar Cove or Whiskey Cove PMIC have an ACPI node with a HID of INT33FE which is a "virtual" battery device implementing a standard ACPI battery interface which depends upon a proprietary, undocument OpRegion called BMOP. Since we do have docs for the actual fuel-gauges used on these boards we instead use native fuel-gauge drivers talking directly to the fuel-gauge ICs on boards which rely on this INT33FE device for their battery monitoring. On boards with a Dollar Cove PMIC the INT33FE device's resources (_CRS) describe a non-existing I2C client at address 0x6b with a bus-speed of 100KHz. This is a problem on some boards since there are actual devices on that same bus which need a speed of 400KHz to function properly. This commit adds the INT33FE HID to the list of devices with I2C resources which should be enumerated as a platform-device rather then letting the i2c-core instantiate an i2c-client matching the first I2C resource, so that its bus-speed will not influence the max speed of the I2C bus. This fixes e.g. the touchscreen not working on the Teclast X98 II Plus. The INT33FE device on boards with a Whiskey Cove PMIC is somewhat special. Its first I2C resource is for a secondary I2C address of the PMIC itself, which is already described in an ACPI device with an INT34D3 HID. But it has 3 more I2C resources describing 3 other chips for which we do need to instantiate I2C clients and which need device-connections added between them for things to work properly. This special case is handled by the drivers/platform/x86/intel_cht_int33fe.c code. Before this commit that code was binding to the i2c-client instantiated for the secondary I2C address of the PMIC, since we now instantiate a platform device for the INT33FE device instead, this commit also changes the intel_cht_int33fe driver from an i2c driver to a platform driver. This also brings the intel_cht_int33fe drv inline with how we instantiate multiple i2c clients from a single ACPI device in other cases, as done by the drivers/platform/x86/i2c-multi-instantiate.c code. 2019-11-06platform/x86: Fix config space access for intel_atomisp2_pmVille Syrjälä1-20/+48
[ Upstream commit 6a31061833a52a79c99221b6251db08cf377470e ] We lose even config space access when we power gate the ISP via the PUNIT. That makes lspci & co. produce gibberish. To fix that let's try to implement actual runtime pm hooks and inform the pci core that the device always goes to D3cold. That will cause the pci core to resume the device before attempting config space access. This introduces another annoyance though. We get the following error every time we try to resume the device: intel_atomisp2_pm 0000:00:03.0: Refused to change power state, currently in D3 The reason being that the pci core tries to put the device back into D0 via the standard PCI PM mechanism before calling the driver resume hook. To fix this properly we'd need to infiltrate the platform pm hooks (could turn ugly real fast), or use pm domains (which don't seem to exist on x86), or some extra early resume hook for the driver (which doesn't exist either). So maybe we just choose to live with the error? [ Upstream commit 160da20b254dd4bfc5828f12c208fa831ad4be6c ] Fix the issue found while running kernel with the option CONFIG_DEBUG_TEST_DRIVER_REMOVE. Driver 'mlx-platform' registers 'i2c_mlxcpld' device and then registers few underlying 'i2c-mux-reg' devices: priv->pdev_i2c = platform_device_register_simple("i2c_mlxcpld", nr, NULL, 0); ... for (i = 0; i < ARRAY_SIZE(mlxplat_mux_data); i++) { priv->pdev_mux[i] = platform_device_register_resndata( &mlxplat_dev->dev, "i2c-mux-reg", i, NULL, 0, &mlxplat_mux_data[i], sizeof(mlxplat_mux_data[i])); But actual parent of "i2c-mux-reg" device is priv->pdev_i2c->dev and not mlxplat_dev->dev. 2019-04-20platform/x86: Add Intel AtomISP2 dummy / power-management driverHans de Goede3-0/+132
[ Upstream commit 49ad712afa88c502831d37f7089d98eac441fb80 ] The Image Signal Processor found on Cherry Trail devices is brought up in D0 state on devices which have camera sensors attached to it. The ISP will not enter D3 state again without some massaging of its registers beforehand and the ISP not being in D3 state blocks the SoC from entering S0ix modes. There was a driver for the ISP in drivers/staging but that got removed again because it never worked. It does not seem likely that a real driver for the ISP will be added to the mainline kernel anytime soon. This commit adds a dummy driver which contains the necessary magic from the staging driver to powerdown the ISP, so that Cherry Trail devices where the ISP is used will properly use S0ix modes when suspended. Together with other recent S0ix related fixes this allows S0ix modes to be entered on e.g. a Chuwi Hi8 Pro and a HP x2 210. This patch refactors the pfear show logic to correctly read PCH IP power gating status for Cannonlake and beyond. Cc: "David E. R720-15IKBN [ Upstream commit 4d9b2864a415fec39150bc13efc730c7eb88711e ] Commit ae7c8cba3221 ("platform/x86: ideapad-laptop: add lenovo RESCUER R720-15IKBN to no_hw_rfkill_list") added DMI_MATCH(DMI_BOARD_NAME, "80WW") for Lenovo RESCUER R720-15IKBN. But DMI_BOARD_NAME does not match 80WW on Lenovo RESCUER R720-15IKBN, thus cause Wireless LAN still be hard blocked. On Lenovo RESCUER R720-15IKBN: ~$ cat /sys/class/dmi/id/sys_vendor LENOVO ~$ cat /sys/class/dmi/id/board_name Provence-5R3 ~$ cat /sys/class/dmi/id/product_name 80WW ~$ cat /sys/class/dmi/id/product_version Lenovo R720-15IKBN So on Lenovo RESCUER R720-15IKBN: DMI_SYS_VENDOR should match "LENOVO", DMI_BOARD_NAME should match "Provence-5R3", DMI_PRODUCT_NAME should match "80WW", DMI_PRODUCT_VERSION should match "Lenovo R720-15IKBN". Fix it, and in according with other entries in no_hw_rfkill_list, use DMI_PRODUCT_VERSION instead of DMI_BOARD_NAME. [ Upstream commit edd45cba5ed7f53974475ddc9a1453c2c87b3328 ] Shift by one the registers for tachometers (7 - 12). This fix is relevant for the same new systems MQMB7, MSN37, MSN34, which are about to be released to the customers. At the moment, none of them is at customers sites. The customers will not suffer from this change. This fix is necessary, because register used before for tachometer 7 has been than reserved for the second PWM for newer systems, which are not supported yet in mlx-platform driver. So registers of tachometers 7-12 have been shifted by one. [ Upstream commit b3f2f3799a972d3863d0fdc2ab6287aef6ca631f ] When the OS registers to handle events from the display off hotkey the EC will send a notification with 0x35 for every key press, independent of the backlight state. The behavior of this key on Windows, with the ATKACPI driver from Asus installed, is turning off the backlight of all connected displays with a fading effect, and any cursor input or key press turning the backlight back on. The key press or cursor input that wakes up the display is also passed through to the application under the cursor or under focus. The key that matches this behavior the closest is KEY_SCREENLOCK. 2019-01-26platform/x86: asus-wmi: Tell the EC the OS will handle the display off hotkeyJoão Paulo Rechi Vita1-1/+2
[ Upstream commit 78f3ac76d9e5219589718b9e4733bee21627b3f5 ] In the past, Asus firmwares would change the panel backlight directly through the EC when the display off hotkey (Fn+F7) was pressed, and only notify the OS of such change, with 0x33 when the LCD was ON and 0x34 when the LCD was OFF. These are currently mapped to KEY_DISPLAYTOGGLE and KEY_DISPLAY_OFF, respectively. Most recently the EC on Asus most machines lost ability to toggle the LCD backlight directly, but unless the OS informs the firmware it is going to handle the display toggle hotkey events, the firmware still tries change the brightness through the EC, to no effect. The end result is a long list (at Endless we counted 11) of Asus laptop models where the display toggle hotkey does not perform any action. Our firmware engineers contacts at Asus were surprised that there were still machines out there with the old behavior. Calling WMNB(ASUS_WMI_DEVID_BACKLIGHT==0x00050011, 2) on the _WDG device tells the firmware that it should let the OS handle the display toggle event, in which case it will simply notify the OS of a key press with 0x35, as shown by the DSDT excerpts bellow. [ Upstream commit 8d98b1ef368feeb7720b8b9b6f3bd93f2ad892bc ] On some Goldmont based systems such as ASRock J3455M the BIOS may not enable the IPC1 device that provides access to the PMC and PUNIT. In such scenarios, the IOSS and PSS resources from the platform device can not be obtained and result in a invalid telemetry_plt_config which is an internal data structure that holds platform config and is maintained by the telemetry platform driver. This is also applicable to the platforms where the BIOS supports IPC1 device under debug configurations but IPC1 is disabled by user or the policy. This change allows user to know the reason for not seeing entries under /sys/kernel/debug/telemetry/* when there is no apparent failure at boot. git://git.infradead.org/linux-platform-drivers-x86 Pull x86 platform driver updates from Andy Shevchenko: - The driver for Silead touchscreen configurations has been renamed from silead_dmi to touchscreen_dmi since it starts supporting other touchscreens which require some DMI quirks It also gets expanded to cover cases for Chuwi Vi10, ONDA V891W, Connect Tablet 9, Onda V820w, and Cube KNote i1101 tablets. - Another bunch of changes is related to Mellanox platform code to allow user space to communicate with Mellanox for system control and monitoring purposes. The driver notifies user on hotplug device signal receiving. - ASUS WMI drivers recognize lid flip action on UX360, and correctly toggles airplane mode LED. In addition the keyboard backlight toggle gets support. - ThinkPad ACPI driver enables support for calculator key (on at least P52). It also has been fixed to support three characters model designators, which are used for modern laptops. Earlier the battery, marked as BAT1, on ThinkPad laptops has not been configured properly, which is fixed. On the opposite the multi-battery configurations now probed correctly. - Dell SMBIOS driver starts working on some Dell servers which do not support token interface. The regression with backlight detection has also been fixed. In order to support dock mode on some laptops, Intel virtual button driver has been fixed. The last but not least is the fix to Intel HID driver due to changes in Dell systems that prevented to use power button. * tag 'platform-drivers-x86-v4.19-1' of git://git.infradead.org/linux-platform-drivers-x86: (47 commits) platform/x86: acer-wmi: Silence "unsupported" message a bit platform/x86: intel_punit_ipc: fix build errors platform/x86: ideapad: Add Y520-15IKBM and Y720-15IKBM to no_hw_rfkill platform/x86: asus-nb-wmi: Add keymap entry for lid flip action on UX360 platform/x86: acer-wmi: refactor function has_cap platform/x86: thinkpad_acpi: Fix multi-battery bug platform/x86: thinkpad_acpi: extend battery quirk coverage platform/x86: touchscreen_dmi: Add info for the Cube KNote i1101 tablet platform/x86: mlx-platform: Fix copy-paste error in mlxplat_init() platform/x86: mlx-platform: Remove unused define platform/x86: mlx-platform: Change mlxreg-io configuration for MSN274x systems Documentation/ABI: Add new attribute for mlxreg-io sysfs interfaces platform/x86: mlx-platform: Allow mlxreg-io driver activation for more systems platform/x86: mlx-platform: Add ASIC hotplug device configuration platform/mellanox: mlxreg-hotplug: Add hotplug hwmon uevent notification platform/mellanox: mlxreg-hotplug: Improve mechanism of ASIC health discovery platform/x86: mlx-platform: Add mlxreg-fan platform driver activation platform/x86: dell-laptop: Fix backlight detection platform/x86: toshiba_acpi: Fix defined but not used build warnings platform/x86: thinkpad_acpi: Support battery quirk ...
