2019-02-11of: add helper to lookup compatible child nodeJohan Hovold1-0/+25
commit 36156f9241cb0f9e37d998052873ca7501ad4b36 upstream. Add of_get_compatible_child() helper that can be used to lookup compatible child nodes. Several drivers currently use of_find_compatible_node() to lookup child nodes while failing to notice that the of_find_ functions search the entire tree depth-first (from a given start node) and therefore can match unrelated nodes. The fact that these functions also drop a reference to the node they start searching from (e.g. the parent node) is typically also overlooked, something which can lead to use-after-free bugs. 2018-12-17of: unittest: Disable interrupt node tests for old world MAC systemsGuenter Roeck1-9/+19
commit 8894891446c9380709451b99ab45c5c53adfd2fc upstream. On systems with OF_IMAP_OLDWORLD_MAC set in of_irq_workarounds, the devicetree interrupt parsing code is different, causing unit tests of devicetree interrupt nodes to fail. Due to a bug in unittest code, which tries to dereference an uninitialized pointer, this results in a crash. 2018-11-20of: platform: stop accessing invalid dev in of_platform_device_destroySrinivas Kandagatla1-2/+2
commit 522811e944ed9b36806faa019faec10f9d259cca upstream. Immediately after the platform_device_unregister() the device will be cleaned up. Accessing the freed pointer immediately after that will crash the system. Found this bug when kernel is built with CONFIG_PAGE_POISONING and testing loading/unloading audio drivers in a loop on Qcom platforms. commit 3993546646baf1dab5f5c4f7d9bb58f2046fd1c1 upstream. The kernel-doc for the of_irq_get[_byname]() is clearly inadequate in describing the return values -- of_irq_get_byname() is documented better than of_irq_get() but it still doesn't mention that 0 is returned iff irq_create_of_mapping() fails (it doesn't return an error code in this case). 2015-12-13drivers: of: of_reserved_mem: fixup the alignment with CMA setupJason Liu1-0/+4
commit 1cc8e3458b5110253c8f5aaf1890d5ffea9bb7b7 upstream. There is an alignment mismatch issue between the of_reserved_mem and the CMA setup requirement. The of_reserved_mem will try to get the alignment value from the DTS and pass it to __memblock_alloc_base to do the memory block base allocation, but the alignment value specified in the DTS may not satisfy the CAM setup requirement since CMA setup required the alignment as the following in the code: align = PAGE_SIZE << max(MAX_ORDER - 1, pageblock_order); The sanity check in the function of rmem_cma_setup will fail if the alignment does not setup correctly and thus CMA will fail to setup. 2014-12-10of/fdt: memblock_reserve /memreserve/ regions in the case of partial overlapIan Campbell1-2/+0
commit 094cb98179f19b75acf9ff471daabf3948ce98e6 upstream. memblock_is_region_reserved() returns true in the case of a partial overlap, meaning that the current code fails to reserve the non-overlapping portion. This call was introduced as part of d1552ce449eb "of/fdt: move memreserve and dtb memory reservations into core" which went into v3.16. I observed this causing a Midway system with a buggy fdt (the header declares itself to be larger than it really is) failing to boot because the over-inflated size of the fdt was causing it to seem to run into the swapper_pg_dir region, meaning the DT wasn't reserved. The symptoms were failing to find an disks or network and failing to boot. However given the ambiguity of whether things like the initrd are covered by /memreserve/ and similar I think it is best to also register the region rather than just ignoring it. Since memblock_reserve() handles overlaps just fine lets just warn and carry on. commit 746c9e9f92dde2789908e51a354ba90a1962a2eb upstream. We have a historical hack that treats missing ranges properties as the equivalent of an empty one. This is needed for ancient PowerMac "bad" device-trees, and shouldn't be enabled for any other PowerPC platform, otherwise we get some nasty layout of devices in sysfs or even duplication when a set of otherwise identically named devices is created multiple times under a different parent node with no ranges property. commit ab74d00a39f70e1bc34a01322bb59f3750ca7a8c upstream. __earlycon_of_table_sentinel.compatible is a char[128], not a pointer, so it will never be NULL. Checking it against NULL causes the match loop to run past the end of the array, and eventually match a bogus entry, under the following conditions: - Kernel command line specifies "earlycon" with no parameters - DT has a stdout-path pointing to a UART node - The UART driver doesn't use OF_EARLYCON_DECLARE (or maybe the console driver is compiled out) Fix this by checking to see if match->compatible is a non-empty string. 2014-11-14of: Fix overflow bug in string property parsing functionsGrant Likely3-72/+84
commit a87fa1d81a9fb5e9adca9820e16008c40ad09f33 upstream. The string property read helpers will run off the end of the buffer if it is handed a malformed string property. Rework the parsers to make sure that doesn't happen. At the same time add new test cases to make sure the functions behave themselves. The original implementations of of_property_read_string_index() and of_property_count_strings() both open-coded the same block of parsing code, each with it's own subtly different bugs. The fix here merges functions into a single helper and makes the original functions static inline wrappers around the helper. One non-bugfix aspect of this patch is the addition of a new wrapper, of_property_read_string_array(). The new wrapper is needed by the device_properties feature that Rafael is working on and planning to merge for v3.19. The implementation is identical both with and without the new static inline wrapper, so it just got left in to reduce the churn on the header file. 2014-10-06of: Allow mem_reserve of memory with a base address of zeroAl Cooper1-1/+1
commit b5f2a8c02697c3685ccbbb66495465742ffa0dc1 upstream. __reserved_mem_reserve_reg() won't reserve memory if the base address is zero. This change removes the check for a base address of zero and allows it to be reserved. Allowing the first 4K of memory to be reserved will help solve a problem on some ARM systems where the the first 16K of memory is unused and becomes allocable memory. This will prevent this memory from being used for DMA by drivers like the USB OHCI driver which consider a physical address of zero to be illegal. 2014-07-02net: fix circular dependency in of_mdio codeDaniel Mack1-34/+0
Commit 86f6cf4127 (net: of_mdio: add of_mdiobus_link_phydev()) introduced a circular dependency between libphy and of_mdio. depmod: ERROR: <modroot>/kernel/drivers/net/phy/libphy.ko in dependency cycle! depmod: ERROR: <modroot>/kernel/drivers/of/of_mdio.ko in dependency cycle! The problem is that of_mdio.c references &mdio_bus_type and libphy now references of_mdiobus_link_phydev. Fix this by not exporting of_mdiobus_link_phydev() from of_mdio.ko. Make it a static function in mdio_bus.c instead. 2014-06-26of: Check for phys_addr_t overflows in early_init_dt_add_memory_archLaura Abbott1-0/+15
The common early_init_dt_add_memory_arch takes the base and size of a memory region as u64 types. The function never checks if the base and size can actually fit in a phys_addr_t which may be smaller than 64-bits. This may result in incorrect memory being passed to memblock_add if the memory falls outside the range of phys_addr_t. Add range checks for the base and size if phys_addr_t is smaller than u64.
