2023-03-11wifi: rtl8xxxu: Use a longer retry limit of 48Bitterblue Smith1-9/+0
commit 2a86aa9a1892d60ef2e3f310f5b42b8b05546d65 upstream. The Realtek rate control algorithm goes back and forth a lot between the highest and the lowest rate it's allowed to use. This is due to a lot of frames being dropped because the retry limits set by IEEE80211_CONF_CHANGE_RETRY_LIMITS are too low. (Experimentally, they are 4 for long frames and 7 for short frames.) The vendor drivers hardcode the value 48 for both retry limits (for station mode), which makes dropped frames very rare and thus the rate control is more stable. Because most Realtek chips handle the rate control in the firmware, which can't be modified, ignore the limits set by IEEE80211_CONF_CHANGE_RETRY_LIMITS and use the value 48 (set during chip initialisation), same as the vendor drivers. The variable 'dma_len' in the URB packet could be manipulated, which could trigger an integer underflow of 'seg_len' in 'mt7601u_rx_process_seg()'. This underflow subsequently causes the 'bad_frame' checks in 'mt7601u_rx_skb_from_seg()' to be bypassed, eventually leading to a dereference of the pointer 'p', which is a null pointer. [ Upstream commit 0af54343a76263a12dbae7fafb64eb47c4a6ad38 ] Syzkaller detected a memory leak of skbs in ath9k_hif_usb_rx_stream(). While processing skbs in ath9k_hif_usb_rx_stream(), the already allocated skbs in skb_pool are not freed if ath9k_hif_usb_rx_stream() fails. If we have an incorrect pkt_len or pkt_tag, the input skb is considered invalid and dropped. All the associated packets already in skb_pool should be dropped and freed. Added a comment describing this issue. The patch also makes remain_skb NULL after being processed so that it cannot be referenced after potential free. The initialization of hif_dev fields which are associated with remain_skb (rx_remain_len, rx_transfer_len and rx_pad_len) is moved after a new remain_skb is allocated. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with Syzkaller. The _rtl8812ae_eq_n_byte() is used to compare the first n bytes of the two strings from tail to head, which causes the problem. In the _rtl8812ae_phy_set_txpower_limit(), it was originally intended to meet this requirement by carefully designing the comparison order. For example, "pregulation" and "pbandwidth" are compared in order of length from small to large, first is 3 and last is 4. However, the comparison order of "prate_section" dose not obey such order requirement, therefore when "prate_section" is "HT", when comparing from tail to head, it will lead to access out of bounds in _rtl8812ae_eq_n_byte(). As mentioned above, the _rtl8812ae_eq_n_byte() has the same function as strcmp(), so just strcmp() is enough. Fix it by removing _rtl8812ae_eq_n_byte() and use strcmp() barely. Although it can be fixed by adjusting the comparison order of "prate_section", this may cause the value of "rate_section" to not be from 0 to 5. In addition, commit "21e4b0726dc6" not only moved driver from staging to regular tree, but also added setting txpower limit function during the driver config phase, so the problem was introduced by this commit. It should use dev_kfree_skb_irq() or dev_consume_skb_irq() instead. The difference between them is free reason, dev_kfree_skb_irq() means the SKB is dropped in error and dev_consume_skb_irq() means the SKB is consumed in normal. In this case, dev_kfree_skb() is called to free and drop the SKB when it's shutdown, so replace it with dev_kfree_skb_irq(). Compile tested only. The patch adds checks that make the functions free the buffer and return -EINVAL if that is the case. This may be utilized to bypass implemented security checks to either extract memory contents by manipulating offset or overflow the data buffer via memcpy by manipulating both offset and len. Additionally assure that sum of resplen and respoffs does not overflow so buffer boundaries are kept. 2023-01-18wifi: rsi: Fix handling of 802.3 EAPOL frames sent via control portMarek Vasut2-2/+8
[ Upstream commit b8f6efccbb9dc0ff5dee7e20d69a4747298ee603 ] When using wpa_supplicant v2.10, this driver is no longer able to associate with any AP and fails in the EAPOL 4-way handshake while sending the 2/4 message to the AP. The problem is not present in wpa_supplicant v2.9 or older. The problem stems from HostAP commit 144314eaa ("wpa_supplicant: Send EAPOL frames over nl80211 where available") which changes the way EAPOL frames are sent, from them being send at L2 frames to them being sent via nl80211 control port. An EAPOL frame sent as L2 frame is passed to the WiFi driver with skb->protocol ETH_P_PAE, while EAPOL frame sent via nl80211 control port has skb->protocol set to ETH_P_802_3 . The later happens in ieee80211_tx_control_port(), where the EAPOL frame is encapsulated into 802.3 frame. The rsi_91x driver handles ETH_P_PAE EAPOL frames as high-priority frames and sends them via highest-priority transmit queue, while the ETH_P_802_3 frames are sent as regular frames. The EAPOL 4-way handshake frames must be sent as highest-priority, otherwise the 4-way handshake times out. Therefore, to fix this problem, inspect the skb control flags and if flag IEEE80211_TX_CTRL_PORT_CTRL_PROTO is set, assume this is an EAPOL frame and transmit the frame via high-priority queue just like other ETH_P_PAE frames. Add one more variable to avoid this. This had no real effect on RTL8723BU. It may have had an effect on RTL8723AU. [ Upstream commit dd95f2239fc846795fc926787c3ae0ca701c9840 ] It is possible that skb is freed in ath9k_htc_rx_msg(), then usb_submit_urb() fails and we try to free skb again. It causes use-after-free bug. Moreover, if alloc_skb() fails, urb->context becomes NULL but rx_buf is not freed and there can be a memory leak. The patch removes unnecessary nskb and makes skb processing more clear: it is supposed that ath9k_htc_rx_msg() either frees old skb or passes its managing to another callback function. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with Syzkaller. [ Upstream commit c2a94de38c74e86f49124ac14f093d6a5c377a90 ] Syzkaller reports a long-known leak of urbs in ath9k_hif_usb_dealloc_tx_urbs(). The cause of the leak is that usb_get_urb() is called but usb_free_urb() (or usb_put_urb()) is not called inside usb_kill_urb() as urb->dev or urb->ep fields have not been initialized and usb_kill_urb() returns immediately. The patch removes trying to kill urbs located in hif_dev->tx.tx_buf because hif_dev->tx.tx_buf is not supposed to contain urbs which are in pending state (the pending urbs are stored in hif_dev->tx.tx_pending). The tx.tx_lock is acquired so there should not be any changes in the list. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with Syzkaller.
