2021-03-17ath9k: fix transmitting to stations in dynamic SMPS modeFelix Fietkau2-1/+8
commit 3b9ea7206d7e1fdd7419cbd10badd3b2c80d04b4 upstream. When transmitting to a receiver in dynamic SMPS mode, all transmissions that use multiple spatial streams need to be sent using CTS-to-self or RTS/CTS to give the receiver's extra chains some time to wake up. This fixes the tx rate getting stuck at <= MCS7 for some clients, especially Intel ones, which make aggressive use of SMPS. The queue of ‘wmi_mgmt_tx_queue’ is protected by a different lock: ar->data_lock vs list->lock, the result is no protection. So when ath10k_mgmt_over_wmi_tx_work() and ath10k_mac_tx_wmi_mgmt() running concurrently on different CPUs, there appear to be a rare corner cases when the queue length is 1, CPUx (skb_deuque) CPUy (__skb_queue_tail) next=list prev=list struct sk_buff *skb = skb_peek(list); WRITE_ONCE(newsk->next, next); WRITE_ONCE(list->qlen, list->qlen - 1);WRITE_ONCE(newsk->prev, prev); next = skb->next; WRITE_ONCE(next->prev, newsk); prev = skb->prev; WRITE_ONCE(prev->next, newsk); skb->next = skb->prev = NULL; list->qlen++; WRITE_ONCE(next->prev, prev); WRITE_ONCE(prev->next, next); If the instruction ‘next = skb->next’ is executed before ‘WRITE_ONCE(prev->next, newsk)’, newsk will be lost, as CPUx get the old ‘next’ pointer, but the length is still added by one. The final result is the length of the queue will reach the maximum value but the queue is empty. So remove ar->data_lock, and use 'skb_queue_tail' instead of '__skb_queue_tail' to prevent the potential race condition. Also switch to use skb_queue_len_lockless, in case we queue a few SKBs simultaneously. (wl12xx_queue_recovery_work.part.0 [wlcore]) (wl12xx_cmd_role_start_sta [wlcore]) (wl1271_op_bss_info_changed [wlcore]) (ieee80211_prep_connection [mac80211]) Error 19 is defined as CMD_STATUS_WRONG_NESTING from the wlcore firmware, and seems to mean that the firmware no longer wants to see the quirk handling for WLCORE_QUIRK_START_STA_FAILS done. This quirk got added with commit 18eab430700d ("wlcore: workaround start_sta problem in wl12xx fw"), and it seems that this already got fixed in the firmware long time ago back in 2012 as wl18xx never had this quirk in place to start with. As we no longer even support firmware that early, to me it seems that it's safe to just drop WLCORE_QUIRK_START_STA_FAILS to fix the error. Looks like earlier firmware got disabled back in 2013 with commit 0e284c074ef9 ("wl12xx: increase minimum singlerole firmware version required"). If it turns out we still need WLCORE_QUIRK_START_STA_FAILS with any firmware that the driver works with, we can simply revert this patch and add extra checks for firmware version used. With this fix wlcore reconnects properly after a beacon loss. 2021-02-23iwlwifi: mvm: guard against device removal in reprobeJohannes Berg1-1/+2

However, if the problem gets more severe and the device is actually destroyed before this worker has a chance to run, we use a free device. Bump up the reference count of the device until the worker runs to avoid this situation. 2021-02-04iwlwifi: pcie: reschedule in long-running memory readsJohannes Berg1-1/+7
[ Upstream commit 3d372c4edfd4dffb7dea71c6b096fb414782b776 ] If we spin for a long time in memory reads that (for some reason in hardware) take a long time, then we'll eventually get messages such as watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#2 stuck for 24s! [kworker/2:2:272] This is because the reading really does take a very long time, and we don't schedule, so we're hogging the CPU with this task, at least if CONFIG_PREEMPT is not set, e.g. with CONFIG_PREEMPT_VOLUNTARY=y. Previously I misinterpreted the situation and thought that this was only going to happen if we had interrupts disabled, and then fixed this (which is good anyway, however), but that didn't always help; looking at it again now I realized that the spin unlock will only reschedule if CONFIG_PREEMPT is used. In order to avoid this issue, change the code to cond_resched() if we've been spinning for too long here. Use jiffies instead of ktime_get(). This cleanup is preparation for the following patch "iwlwifi: pcie: reschedule in long-running memory reads". The code gets simpler with the weird clock use etc. removed before we add cond_resched(). 2020-12-29iwlwifi: pcie: limit memory read spin timeJohannes Berg1-9/+27
[ Upstream commit 04516706bb99889986ddfa3a769ed50d2dc7ac13 ] When we read device memory, we lock a spinlock, write the address we want to read from the device and then spin in a loop reading the data in 32-bit quantities from another register. As the description makes clear, this is rather inefficient, incurring a PCIe bus transaction for every read. In a typical device today, we want to read 786k SMEM if it crashes, leading to 192k register reads. Occasionally, we've seen the whole loop take over 20 seconds and then triggering the soft lockup detector. Clearly, it is unreasonable to spin here for such extended periods of time. To fix this, break the loop down into an outer and an inner loop, and break out of the inner loop if more than half a second elapsed. To avoid too much overhead, check for that only every 128 reads, though there's no particular reason for that number. Then, unlock and relock to obtain NIC access again, reprogram the start address and continue. This will keep (interrupt) latencies on the CPU down to a reasonable time. In p54p_tx(), skb->data is mapped to streaming DMA on line 337: mapping = pci_map_single(..., skb->data, ...); Then skb->data is accessed on line 349: desc->device_addr = ((struct p54_hdr *)skb->data)->req_id; This access may cause data inconsistency between CPU cache and hardware. To fix this problem, ((struct p54_hdr *)skb->data)->req_id is stored in a local variable before DMA mapping, and then the driver accesses this local variable instead of skb->data. Malfunctional or malicious device could manipulate such idx to have a OOB write. Either by htt->rx_ring.netbufs_ring[idx] = skb; or by ath10k_htt_set_paddrs_ring(htt, paddr, idx); The idx can also be negative as it's signed, giving a large memory space to write to. It's possibly exploitable by corruptting a legit pointer with a skb pointer. And then fill skb with payload as rougue object. Part of the log here. If the second alloc of mpa_tx.buf fails, the error handler will try to free the old, previously freed mpa_rx.buf. Reviewing the code, it looks like a second double free would happen with mwifiex_cleanup_sdio(). So set both pointers to NULL when they are freed. Channel active/busy time are then showing incorrect values (less than previous or sometimes zero) for the currently active channel during successive survey dump commands. example: $ iw dev wlan0 survey dump Survey data from wlan0 frequency: 5180 MHz [in use] channel active time: 54995 ms channel busy time: 432 ms channel receive time: 0 ms channel transmit time: 59 ms ... $ iw dev wlan0 survey dump Survey data from wlan0 frequency: 5180 MHz [in use] channel active time: 32592 ms channel busy time: 254 ms channel receive time: 0 ms channel transmit time: 0 ms ... The correct way to handle this is to use the non-clearing WMI_BSS_SURVEY_REQ_TYPE_READ wmi_bss_survey_req_type. The firmware will then accumulate the survey data and handle wrap arounds. [ Upstream commit 4afc850e2e9e781976fb2c7852ce7bac374af938 ] Following commit e18696786548 ("mwifiex: Prevent memory corruption handling keys") the mwifiex driver fails to authenticate with certain networks, specifically networks with 256 bit keys, and repeatedly asks for the password. The kernel log repeats the following lines (id and bssid redacted): mwifiex_pcie 0000:01:00.0: info: trying to associate to '<id>' bssid <bssid> mwifiex_pcie 0000:01:00.0: info: associated to bssid <bssid> successfully mwifiex_pcie 0000:01:00.0: crypto keys added mwifiex_pcie 0000:01:00.0: info: successfully disconnected from <bssid>: reason code 3 Tracking down this problem lead to the overflow check introduced by the aforementioned commit into mwifiex_ret_802_11_key_material_v2(). This check fails on networks with 256 bit keys due to the current storage size for AES keys in struct mwifiex_aes_param being only 128 bit. To fix this issue, increase the storage size for AES keys to 256 bit. The issue was reproduced when DUT was configured as AP and associated with 50+ STAs. For QCA9984/QCA9888, the DMA_BURST_SIZE register controls the AXI burst size of the RD/WR access to the HOST MEM. 0 - No split , RAW read/write transfer size from MAC is put out on bus as burst length 1 - Split at 256 byte boundary 2,3 - Reserved With PCIe protocol analyzer, we can see DMA Read crossing 4KB boundary when issue happened. It broke PCIe spec and caused PCIe stuck. So revert the default value from 0 to 1. commit 6a29d134c04a8acebb7a95251acea7ad7abba106 upstream. Since the driver was first introduced into the kernel, it has only handled the ciphers associated with WEP, WPA, and WPA2. It fails with WPA3 even though mac80211 can handle those additional ciphers in software, b43legacy did not report that it could handle them. By setting MFP_CAPABLE using ieee80211_set_hw(), the problem is fixed. With this change, b43legacy will handle the ciphers it knows in hardware, and let mac80211 handle the others in software. It is not necessary to use the module parameter NOHWCRYPT to turn hardware encryption off. Although this change essentially eliminates that module parameter, I am choosing to keep it for cases where the hardware is broken, and software encryption is required for all ciphers. This patch fixes commit 75388acd0cd8 ("add mac80211-based driver for legacy BCM43xx devices") In https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=207093, a defect in b43legacy is reported. Upon testing, thus problem exists on PPC and X86 platforms, is present in the oldest kernel tested (3.2), and has been present in the driver since it was first added to the kernel. The problem is a corrupted channel status received from the device. Both the internal card in a PowerBook G4 and the PCMCIA version (Broadcom BCM4306 with PCI ID 14e4:4320) have the problem. Only Rev, 2 (revision 4 of the 802.11 core) of the chip has been tested. No other devices using b43legacy are available for testing. Various sources of the problem were considered. Buffer overrun and other sources of corruption within the driver were rejected because the faulty channel status is always the same, not a random value. It was concluded that the faulty data is coming from the device, probably due to a firmware bug. As that source is not available, the driver must take appropriate action to recover. At present, the driver reports the error, and them continues to process the bad packet. This is believed that to be a mistake, and the correct action is to drop the correpted packet.
