Seems H/W report correctly firmware Autorun value only at initialization stage. When we close interface and open it again, Autorun value is 0 and we try to load firmware what kills the device. To fix clear REQUIRE_FIRMWARE firmware flag, to do not load firmware again, once we discover Autorun mode. Function rt2800usb_autorun_detect() passes the address of a variable allocated onto the stack to be used for DMA by the USB layer. This has been caught by my debugging-enabled kernel. This patch change things in order to allocate that variable via kmalloc, and it adjusts things to handle the kmalloc failure case, propagating the error. 2014-06-17rt2800usb:fix hang during firmware loadMichael Braun1-2/+7
The device 057c:8501 (AVM Fritz! WLAN v2 rev. B) boots into a state that does not actually require loading a firmware file. The vendors driver finds out about this by checking a firmware state register, so this patch adds this here. Finally, with this patch applied, my wifi dongle actually becomes useful (scan + connect to wpa network works). The device 057c:8501 (AVM Fritz! WLAN v2 rev. B) currently does not load. One thing observed is that the vendors driver detects EFUSE mode for this device, but rt2800usb does not. This is due to rt2800usb lacking a check for the firmware mode present in the vendors driver, that this patch adopts for rt2800usb. With this patch applied, the 'RF chipset' detection does no longer fail. 2014-02-25wireless/rt2x00: don't use PREPARE_WORK in rt2800usb.cTejun Heo1-1/+1
PREPARE_[DELAYED_]WORK() are being phased out. They have few users and a nasty surprise in terms of reentrancy guarantee as workqueue considers work items to be different if they don't have the same work function. Update rt2800usb.c to use INIT_WORK() instead of PREPARE_WORK(). As the work item isn't in active use during rt2800usb_probe_hw(), this doesn't cause any behavior difference. It would probably be best to route this with other related updates through the workqueue tree. Only compile tested. 2013-11-15kfifo API type safetyStefani Seibold1-1/+1
This patch enhances the type safety for the kfifo API. It is now safe to put const data into a non const FIFO and the API will now generate a compiler warning when reading from the fifo where the destination address is pointing to a const variable. As a side effect the kfifo_put() does now expect the value of an element instead a pointer to the element. This was suggested Russell King. It make the handling of the kfifo_put easier since there is no need to create a helper variable for getting the address of a pointer or to pass integers of different sizes. IMHO the API break is okay, since there are currently only six users of kfifo_put(). The code is also cleaner by kicking out the "if (0)" expressions. Polling TX statuses too frequently has two negative effects. First is randomly peek CPU usage, causing overall system functioning delays. Second bad effect is that device is not able to fill TX statuses in H/W register on some workloads and we get lot of timeouts like below: ieee80211 phy4: rt2800usb_entry_txstatus_timeout: Warning - TX status timeout for entry 7 in queue 2 ieee80211 phy4: rt2800usb_entry_txstatus_timeout: Warning - TX status timeout for entry 7 in queue 2 ieee80211 phy4: rt2800usb_txdone: Warning - Got TX status for an empty queue 2, dropping This not only cause flood of messages in dmesg, but also bad throughput, since rate scaling algorithm can not work optimally. In the future, we should probably make polling interval be adjusted automatically, but for now just increase values, this make mentioned problems gone. 2013-08-16rt2x00: rt2800lib: introduce rt2800_get_txwi_rxwi_size helperGabor Juhos1-10/+1
The rt2800pci driver uses the same [RT]XWI size for all chipsets, however some chips requires different values. The size of the [RT]XWI structures is a constant value for a given chipset and it does not depend on the underlying interface. Add a helper function which returns the correct values for the actual chipset and use the new helper both in the rt2800usb and in the rt2800pci drivers. 2013-07-23rt2x00: rt2800usb: add USB device ID for Linksys AE3000Gabor Juhos1-0/+4
The Linksys AE3000 device is based on the RT3573 chipset. The support for this chipset is available already, and the AE3000 device works with the driver. Only managed mode works correctly at the moment, for AP mode additional changes are needed in the driver. Also add a new RT2800USB_RT3573 Kconfig option and only enable support for RT3573 based devices if that is enabled. 2013-06-12rt2x00: move extra_tx_headroom field from rt2x00_ops to rt2x00_devGabor Juhos1-2/+0
The extra_tx_headroom field of struct rt2x00_ops indicates the extra TX headroom size required for a given device. This data is redundant, the value can be computed from the desc_size and winfo_size fields of the TX queues. Move the extra_tx_headroom field to struct rt2x00_dev, compute its value in the probe routine and use the cached value in the rest of the code. The generic rt2x00 code has been changed to allow the drivers toimplement dynamic data_queue initialization. Remove the static data queue descriptor structures and implement the queue_init callback instead. The actual chipset is already known when the callback is used. This allows us to use a single callback for all supported devices. The RX data queue is initialized already when the rt2800_usb_enable_radio() function is called. Fetch the number of the queue entries from that instead of using the entry_num field of the data queue descriptor. The two values are the same, and the use of the rt2x00dev->rx->limit value allows us to get rid of a superfluous pointer dereference. On new 2800 hardware sizes of TXWI & RXIW can be different than TXD & RXD sizes, so we need to difference between them. Let's define winfo_size as size of in buffer descriptor (TXWI & RXWI), and desc_size of as size of additional descriptor - in separate DMA coherent buffer for PCI hardware (TXD & RXD) and yet another in buffer descriptor for USB hardware (TXINFO & RXINFO). Change is rt2x00 wild, but should affect only 2800 driver. Patch also fix beaconing for 5592usb AP mode. Both the rtt2x00usb_eeprom_read and the ioremap functions are allowed to fail, however their return values are not checked in the read_eeprom functions in the rt2800{pci,usb} drivers. The patch adds the missing checks, and converts all read_eeprom functions to return an int value, so the error values can be propagated up to the 'rt2800_validate_eeprom' function. 2012-12-11rt2800usb: Add support for 2001:3c1e (D-Link DWA-125 rev B1) USB Wi-Fi adapterMaia Kozheva1-0/+1
D-Link DWA-125/B1 is a relatively new USB Wi-Fi adapter, using a Ralink chipset supported by the rt2800usb driver. Currently, to work around the problem (it's missing in all present kernel versions, up to and including 3.7.x), I had to add this to /etc/rc.local: echo 2001 3c1e >> /sys/bus/usb/drivers/rt2800usb/new_id After that, the device works without problems. Been using it for over a week with no bugs in sight. The attached patch is trivial and simply adds the new USB ID to the list of devices handled by rt2800usb. Patch fixes warnings like below happened on resume: WARNING: at net/mac80211/driver-ops.h:12 check_sdata_in_driver+0x32/0x34() Problem is that in __ieee80211_susped() we remove sdata (i.e wlan0 interface) and then during resume we call usb_unbind_interface() -> ieee80211_unregister_hw() with sdata removed. Patch fixes problem by adding .reset_resume calback, hence we do not unbind usb device on resume. This callback can be the same as normal .resume callback, sice we do all needed initalization during interface start, which is performed on resume [ ieee80211_resume() -> ieee80211_reconfig() -> rt2x00mac_start() -> rt2x00lib_start ]. 2012-09-05rt2800usb: Added rx packet length validity checkSergei Poselenov1-1/+9
On our system (ARM Cortex-M3 SOC running linux-2.6.33) frequent crashes were observed in the rt2800usb module because of the invalid length of the received packet (3392, 46920...). This patch adds the sanity check on the packet legth. Also, changed WARNING to ERROR in rt2x00lib_rxdone() so that the bad packet condition would be noticed. The fix was tested on the latest compat-wireless-3.5.1-1-snpc. We need to program the rfkill switch GPIO pin direction to input at device initialization time, not only when the interface is brought up. Doing this only when the interface is brought up could lead to rfkill detecting the switch is turned on erroneously and inability to create the interface and bringing it up.
