To silence these warnings, last two fields of the aforementioned structures are grouped using 'struct_group_attr(pn, __packed' quirk. [ Upstream commit 061115fbfb2ce5870c9a004d68dc63138c07c782 ] Smatch reports: ath_pci_probe() warn: argument 4 to %lx specifier is cast from pointer ath_ahb_probe() warn: argument 4 to %lx specifier is cast from pointer Fix it by modifying %lx to %p in the printk format string. Note that with this change, the pointer address will be printed as a hashed value by default. This is appropriate because the kernel should not leak kernel pointers to user space in an informational message. If someone wants to see the real address for debugging purposes, this can be achieved with the no_hash_pointers kernel option. Since the fortification logic seems interprets this trick as an attempt to overread 4-byte 'ba_low', silence relevant warnings by using the convenient 'struct_group()' quirk. 2023-09-19wifi: ath10k: Use RMW accessors for changing LNKCTLIlpo Järvinen1-4/+5

2023-09-19wifi: ath9k: protect WMI command response buffer replacement with a lockFedor Pchelkin1-6/+8
[ Upstream commit 454994cfa9e4c18b6df9f78b60db8eadc20a6c25 ] If ath9k_wmi_cmd() has exited with a timeout, it is possible that during next ath9k_wmi_cmd() call the wmi_rsp callback for previous wmi command writes to new wmi->cmd_rsp_buf and makes a completion. This results in an invalid ath9k_wmi_cmd() return value. Move the replacement of WMI command response buffer and length under wmi_lock. Note that last_seq_id value is updated there, too. Thus, the buffer cannot be written to by a belated wmi_rsp callback because that path is properly rejected by the last_seq_id check. [ Upstream commit f24292e827088bba8de7158501ac25a59b064953 ] For the reasons also described in commit b383e8abed41 ("wifi: ath9k: avoid uninit memory read in ath9k_htc_rx_msg()"), ath9k_htc_rx_msg() should validate pkt_len before accessing the SKB. For example, the obtained SKB may have been badly constructed with pkt_len = 8. In this case, the SKB can only contain a valid htc_frame_hdr but after being processed in ath9k_htc_rx_msg() and passed to ath9k_wmi_ctrl_rx() endpoint RX handler, it is expected to have a WMI command header which should be located inside its data payload. Implement sanity checking inside ath9k_wmi_ctrl_rx(). Otherwise, uninit memory can be referenced. Tested on Qualcomm Atheros Communications AR9271 802.11n . These can be overly conservative, but since -Warray-bounds has been finding legitimate bugs, it is desirable to turn it on globally. Instead of casting a u32 to a larger object, redefine the u32 portion of the header to a separate struct that can be used for both u32 operations and the distinct header fields. This descriptor which is invalid causes the wrong SKB (SKB stored in the IDR lookup with buffer id "0") to be fetched which in turn causes SKB memory corruption issue and the same leads to crash after some time. Changed the start id for idr allocation to "1" and the buffer id "0" is reserved for error validation. Introduced Sanity check to validate the descriptor, before processing the SKB. 2023-05-17wifi: ath9k: hif_usb: fix memory leak of remain_skbsFedor Pchelkin1-0/+19
[ Upstream commit 7654cc03eb699297130b693ec34e25f77b17c947 ] hif_dev->remain_skb is allocated and used exclusively in ath9k_hif_usb_rx_stream(). It is implied that an allocated remain_skb is processed and subsequently freed (in error paths) only during the next call of ath9k_hif_usb_rx_stream(). So, if the urbs are deallocated between those two calls due to the device deinitialization or suspend, it is possible that ath9k_hif_usb_rx_stream() is not called next time and the allocated remain_skb is leaked. Our local Syzkaller instance was able to trigger that. remain_skb makes sense when receiving two consecutive urbs which are logically linked together, i.e. a specific data field from the first skb indicates a cached skb to be allocated, memcpy'd with some data and subsequently processed in the next call to ath9k_hif_usb_rx_stream(). Urbs deallocation supposedly makes that link irrelevant so we need to free the cached skb in those cases. Fix the leak by introducing a function to explicitly free remain_skb (if it is not NULL) when the rx urbs have been deallocated. remain_skb is NULL when it has not been allocated at all (hif_dev struct is kzalloced) or when it has been processed in next call to ath9k_hif_usb_rx_stream(). This directory created under the top-level ath11k directory, for example /sys/kernel/debug/ath11k. The reference to the toplevel ath11k directory is not stored anymore within ath11k, instead it's retrieved using debugfs_lookup(). If the directory does not exist it will be created. After the last directory from the ath11k directory is removed, for example when doing rmmod ath11k, the empty ath11k directory is left in place, it's a minor cosmetic issue anyway. [ Upstream commit 0af54343a76263a12dbae7fafb64eb47c4a6ad38 ] Syzkaller detected a memory leak of skbs in ath9k_hif_usb_rx_stream(). While processing skbs in ath9k_hif_usb_rx_stream(), the already allocated skbs in skb_pool are not freed if ath9k_hif_usb_rx_stream() fails. If we have an incorrect pkt_len or pkt_tag, the input skb is considered invalid and dropped. All the associated packets already in skb_pool should be dropped and freed. Added a comment describing this issue. The patch also makes remain_skb NULL after being processed so that it cannot be referenced after potential free. The initialization of hif_dev fields which are associated with remain_skb (rx_remain_len, rx_transfer_len and rx_pad_len) is moved after a new remain_skb is allocated. It causes use-after-free bug. Moreover, if alloc_skb() fails, urb->context becomes NULL but rx_buf is not freed and there can be a memory leak. The patch removes unnecessary nskb and makes skb processing more clear: it is supposed that ath9k_htc_rx_msg() either frees old skb or passes its managing to another callback function. [ Upstream commit c2a94de38c74e86f49124ac14f093d6a5c377a90 ] Syzkaller reports a long-known leak of urbs in ath9k_hif_usb_dealloc_tx_urbs(). The cause of the leak is that usb_get_urb() is called but usb_free_urb() (or usb_put_urb()) is not called inside usb_kill_urb() as urb->dev or urb->ep fields have not been initialized and usb_kill_urb() returns immediately. The patch removes trying to kill urbs located in hif_dev->tx.tx_buf because hif_dev->tx.tx_buf is not supposed to contain urbs which are in pending state (the pending urbs are stored in hif_dev->tx.tx_pending). The tx.tx_lock is acquired so there should not be any changes in the list. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with Syzkaller. [ Upstream commit b383e8abed41cc6ff1a3b34de75df9397fa4878c ] syzbot is reporting uninit value at ath9k_htc_rx_msg() [1], for ioctl(USB_RAW_IOCTL_EP_WRITE) can call ath9k_hif_usb_rx_stream() with pkt_len = 0 but ath9k_hif_usb_rx_stream() uses __dev_alloc_skb(pkt_len + 32, GFP_ATOMIC) based on an assumption that pkt_len is valid. As a result, ath9k_hif_usb_rx_stream() allocates skb with uninitialized memory and ath9k_htc_rx_msg() is reading from uninitialized memory. Since bytes accessed by ath9k_htc_rx_msg() is not known until ath9k_htc_rx_msg() is called, it would be difficult to check minimal valid pkt_len at "if (pkt_len > 2 * MAX_RX_BUF_SIZE) {" line in ath9k_hif_usb_rx_stream(). We have two choices. One is to workaround by adding __GFP_ZERO so that ath9k_htc_rx_msg() sees 0 if pkt_len is invalid. The other is to let ath9k_htc_rx_msg() validate pkt_len before accessing. This patch chose the latter. Note that I'm not sure threshold condition is correct, for I can't find details on possible packet length used by this protocol. 2022-10-26wifi: ath11k: fix number of VHT beamformee spatial streamsJesus Fernandez Manzano1-5/+20
[ Upstream commit 55b5ee3357d7bb98ee578cf9b84a652e7a1bc199 ] The number of spatial streams used when acting as a beamformee in VHT mode are reported by the firmware as 7 (8 sts - 1) both in IPQ6018 and IPQ8074 which respectively have 2 and 4 sts each. So the firmware should report 1 (2 - 1) and 3 (4 - 1). Fix this by checking that the number of VHT beamformee sts reported by the firmware is not greater than the number of receiving antennas - 1. The fix is based on the same approach used in this same function for sanitizing the number of sounding dimensions reported by the firmware. Without this change, acting as a beamformee in VHT mode is not working properly. Therefore driver should not enforce specific trigger type - edge rising - but instead rely on Devicetree to configure it. Since ath9k_wmi_event_tasklet() is set by ath9k_init_wmi() from ath9k_htc_probe_device(), it is possible that ath9k_wmi_event_tasklet() is called via tasklet interrupt before spin_lock_init() from ath9k_init_priv() from ath9k_init_device() from ath9k_htc_probe_device() is called. 2022-06-09carl9170: tx: fix an incorrect use of list iteratorXiaomeng Tong1-0/+3

If the previous list_for_each_entry_continue_rcu() don't exit early (no goto hit inside the loop), the iterator 'cvif' after the loop will be a bogus pointer to an invalid structure object containing the HEAD (&ar->vif_list). As a result, the use of 'cvif' after that will lead to a invalid memory access (i.e., 'cvif->id': the invalid pointer dereference when return back to/after the callsite in the carl9170_update_beacon()). The original intention should have been to return the valid 'cvif' when found in list, NULL otherwise. So just return NULL when no entry found, to fix this bug. Also use ar->conf_mutex to synchronize vdev delete and mgmt. TX. This issue is found in case of Passpoint scenario where ath11k needs to send action frames before vdev is started. Fix it by removing the second condition. 2022-06-09ath11k: acquire ab->base_lock in unassign when finding the peer by addrNiels Dossche1-3/+8
[ Upstream commit 2db80f93869d491be57cbc2b36f30d0d3a0e5bde ] ath11k_peer_find_by_addr states via lockdep that ab->base_lock must be held when calling that function in order to protect the list. All callers except ath11k_mac_op_unassign_vif_chanctx have that lock acquired when calling ath11k_peer_find_by_addr. That lock is also not transitively held by a path towards ath11k_mac_op_unassign_vif_chanctx. The solution is to acquire the lock when calling ath11k_peer_find_by_addr inside ath11k_mac_op_unassign_vif_chanctx. I am currently working on a static analyser to detect missing locks and this was a reported case. I manually verified the report by looking at the code, but I do not have real hardware so this is compile tested only.
