[ Upstream commit aa6956150f820e6a6deba44be325ddfcb5b10f88 ] Add the missing memory barriers to make sure that destination ring descriptors are read before updating the tail pointer (and passing ownership to the device) to avoid memory corruption on weakly ordered architectures like aarch64 when the ring is full. Add the missing memory barrier to make sure that LMAC source ring descriptors are written before updating the head pointer to avoid passing stale data to the firmware on weakly ordered architectures like aarch64. Note that non-LMAC rings use MMIO write accessors which have the required write memory barrier. 2025-06-27ath10k: snoc: fix unbalanced IRQ enable in crash recoveryCaleb Connolly1-1/+3
[ Upstream commit 1650d32b92b01db03a1a95d69ee74fcbc34d4b00 ] In ath10k_snoc_hif_stop() we skip disabling the IRQs in the crash recovery flow, but we still unconditionally call enable again in ath10k_snoc_hif_start(). We can't check the ATH10K_FLAG_CRASH_FLUSH bit since it is cleared before hif_start() is called, so instead check the ATH10K_SNOC_FLAG_RECOVERY flag and skip enabling the IRQs during crash recovery. This fixes unbalanced IRQ enable splats that happen after recovering from a crash. This causes a device-by-zero error in the driver, leading to either a crash or an out of bounds read. Prevent this by aborting the handling in ath9k_htc_swba() if beacons are not enabled. 2025-06-27wifi: ath11k: fix node corruption in ar->arvifs listStone Zhang1-1/+7
[ Upstream commit 31e98e277ae47f56632e4d663b1d4fd12ba33ea8 ] In current WLAN recovery code flow, ath11k_core_halt() only reinitializes the "arvifs" list head. This will cause the list node immediately following the list head to become an invalid list node. Because the prev of that node still points to the list head "arvifs", but the next of the list head "arvifs" no longer points to that list node. When a WLAN recovery occurs during the execution of a vif removal, and it happens before the spin_lock_bh(&ar->data_lock) in ath11k_mac_op_remove_interface(), list_del() will detect the previously mentioned situation, thereby triggering a kernel panic. The fix is to remove and reinitialize all vif list nodes from the list head "arvifs" during WLAN halt. The reinitialization is to make the list nodes valid, ensuring that the list_del() in ath11k_mac_op_remove_interface() can execute normally. This is an issue if DT contains an nvmem mac address. If nvmem is not ready in time for ath9k, -EPROBE_DEFER is returned. Pass it to _probe so that ath9k can properly grab a potentially present MAC address. commit 95c38953cb1ecf40399a676a1f85dfe2b5780a9a upstream. When running 'rmmod ath10k', ath10k_sdio_remove() will free sdio workqueue by destroy_workqueue(). This function will free struct cfg80211_registered_device *rdev and all its members, including wiphy, dev and the pointer of sdio workqueue. Then the pointer of sdio workqueue will be set to NULL due to CONFIG_INIT_ON_FREE_DEFAULT_ON. After device release, destroy_workqueue() will use NULL pointer then the kernel panic happen. This order matches the error path order in ath10k_sdio_probe(). No work will be queued on sdio workqueue between it is destroyed and ath10k_core_destroy() is called. Based on the call_stack above, the reason is: Only ath10k_sdio_sleep_timer_handler(), ath10k_sdio_hif_tx_sg() and ath10k_sdio_irq_disable() will queue work on sdio workqueue. Sleep timer will be deleted before ath10k_core_destroy() in ath10k_hif_power_down(). ath10k_sdio_irq_disable() only be called in ath10k_hif_stop(). ath10k_core_unregister() will call ath10k_hif_power_down() to stop hif bus, so ath10k_sdio_hif_tx_sg() won't be called anymore. [ Upstream commit 52db16ec5bae7bd027804265b968259d1a6c3970 ] In supported_vht_mcs_rate_nss2, the rate for MCS9 & VHT20 is defined as {1560, 1733}, this does not align with firmware's definition and therefore fails the verification in ath10k_mac_get_rate_flags_vht(): invalid vht params rate 1730 100kbps nss 2 mcs 9 and: invalid vht params rate 1920 100kbps nss 2 mcs 9 Change it to {1730, 1920} to align with firmware to fix the issue. Since ath10k_hw_params::supports_peer_stats_info is enabled only for QCA6174, this change does not affect other chips. [ Upstream commit 69f253e46af98af17e3efa3e5dfa72fcb7d1983d ] Currently, the ath11k_soc_dp_stats::hal_reo_error array is defined with a maximum size of DP_REO_DST_RING_MAX. However, the ath11k_dp_process_rx() function access ath11k_soc_dp_stats::hal_reo_error using the REO destination SRNG ring ID, which is incorrect. SRNG ring ID differ from normal ring ID, and this usage leads to out-of-bounds array access. To fix this issue, modify ath11k_dp_process_rx() to use the normal ring ID directly instead of the SRNG ring ID to avoid out-of-bounds array access. 2024-10-17wifi: ath9k_htc: Use __skb_set_length() for resetting urb before resubmitToke Høiland-Jørgensen1-4/+2
[ Upstream commit 94745807f3ebd379f23865e6dab196f220664179 ] Syzbot points out that skb_trim() has a sanity check on the existing length of the skb, which can be uninitialised in some error paths. The intent here is clearly just to reset the length to zero before resubmitting, so switch to calling __skb_set_length(skb, 0) directly. In addition, __skb_set_length() already contains a call to skb_reset_tail_pointer(), so remove the redundant call. The syzbot report came from ath9k_hif_usb_reg_in_cb(), but there's a similar usage of skb_trim() in ath9k_hif_usb_rx_cb(), change both while we're at it. 2024-10-17wifi: ath9k: Remove error checks when creating debugfs entriesToke Høiland-Jørgensen2-4/+0
[ Upstream commit f6ffe7f0184792c2f99aca6ae5b916683973d7d3 ] We should not be checking the return values from debugfs creation at all: the debugfs functions are designed to handle errors of previously called functions and just transparently abort the creation of debugfs entries when debugfs is disabled. If we check the return value and abort driver initialisation, we break the driver if debugfs is disabled (such as when booting with debugfs=off). Earlier versions of ath9k accidentally did the right thing by checking the return value, but only for NULL, not for IS_ERR(). This was "fixed" by the two commits referenced below, breaking ath9k with debugfs=off starting from the 6.6 kernel (as reported in the Bugzilla linked below). Restore functionality by just getting rid of the return value check entirely. 2024-08-19wifi: ath11k: fix wrong handling of CCMP256 and GCMP ciphersBaochen Qiang3-6/+15
[ Upstream commit d2b0ca38d362ebf16ca79cd7f309d5bb8b581deb ] Currently for CCMP256, GCMP128 and GCMP256 ciphers, in ath11k_install_key() IEEE80211_KEY_FLAG_GENERATE_IV_MGMT is not set. And in ath11k_mac_mgmt_tx_wmi() a length of IEEE80211_CCMP_MIC_LEN is reserved for all ciphers. This results in unexpected management frame drop in case either of above 3 ciphers is used. The reason is, without IEEE80211_KEY_FLAG_GENERATE_IV_MGMT set, mac80211 will not generate CCMP/GCMP headers in frame for ath11k. Also MIC length reserved is wrong. Such frame is dropped later by hardware: ath11k_pci 0000:5a:00.0: mac tx mgmt frame, buf id 0 ath11k_pci 0000:5a:00.0: mgmt tx compl ev pdev_id 1, desc_id 0, status 1 From user point of view, we have observed very low throughput due to this issue: action frames are all dropped so ADDBA response from DUT never reaches AP. AP can not use aggregation thus throughput is low. Fix this by setting IEEE80211_KEY_FLAG_GENERATE_IV_MGMT flag and by reserving proper MIC length for those ciphers. While there was a check for a specific 4th endpoint, since it can switch types between bulk and interrupt, other endpoints are trusted implicitly. [ Upstream commit 24355fcb0d4cbcb6ddda262596558e8cfba70f11 ] The ath9k_wmi_event_tasklet() used in ath9k_htc assumes that all the data structures have been fully initialised by the time it runs. However, because of the order in which things are initialised, this is not guaranteed to be the case, because the device is exposed to the USB subsystem before the ath9k driver initialisation is completed. We already committed a partial fix for this in commit: 8b3046abc99e ("ath9k_htc: fix NULL pointer dereference at ath9k_htc_tx_get_packet()") However, that commit only aborted the WMI_TXSTATUS_EVENTID command in the event tasklet, pairing it with an "initialisation complete" bit in the TX struct. It seems syzbot managed to trigger the race for one of the other commands as well, so let's just move the existing synchronisation bit to cover the whole tasklet (setting it at the end of ath9k_htc_probe_device() instead of inside ath9k_tx_init()). Note that with this change, the pointer address will be printed as a hashed value by default. This is appropriate because the kernel should not leak kernel pointers to user space in an informational message. If someone wants to see the real address for debugging purposes, this can be achieved with the no_hash_pointers kernel option. Since the fortification logic seems interprets this trick as an attempt to overread 4-byte 'ba_low', silence relevant warnings by using the convenient 'struct_group()' quirk. 2023-09-19wifi: ath9k: protect WMI command response buffer replacement with a lockFedor Pchelkin1-6/+8
[ Upstream commit 454994cfa9e4c18b6df9f78b60db8eadc20a6c25 ] If ath9k_wmi_cmd() has exited with a timeout, it is possible that during next ath9k_wmi_cmd() call the wmi_rsp callback for previous wmi command writes to new wmi->cmd_rsp_buf and makes a completion. This results in an invalid ath9k_wmi_cmd() return value. Move the replacement of WMI command response buffer and length under wmi_lock. Note that last_seq_id value is updated there, too. Thus, the buffer cannot be written to by a belated wmi_rsp callback because that path is properly rejected by the last_seq_id check.
