2022-01-27net: mcs7830: handle usb read errors properlyPavel Skripkin1-2/+10
[ Upstream commit d668769eb9c52b150753f1653f7f5a0aeb8239d2 ] Syzbot reported uninit value in mcs7830_bind(). The problem was in missing validation check for bytes read via usbnet_read_cmd(). usbnet_read_cmd() internally calls usb_control_msg(), that returns number of bytes read. Code should validate that requested number of bytes was actually read. So, this patch adds missing size validation check inside mcs7830_get_reg() to prevent uninit value bugs Reported-and-tested-by: syzbot+003c0a286b9af5412510@syzkaller.appspotmail.com Fixes: 2a36d7083438 ("USB: driver for mcs7830 (aka DeLOCK) USB ethernet adapter") Signed-off-by: Pavel Skripkin <paskripkin@gmail.com> Reviewed-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20220106225716.7425-1-paskripkin@gmail.com Signed-off-by: Jakub Kicinski <kuba@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Sasha Levin <sashal@kernel.org>
2022-01-11rndis_host: support Hytera digital radiosThomas Toye1-0/+5
commit 29262e1f773b4b6a43711120be564c57fca07cfb upstream. Hytera makes a range of digital (DMR) radios. These radios can be programmed to a allow a computer to control them over Ethernet over USB, either using NCM or RNDIS. This commit adds support for RNDIS for Hytera radios. I tested with a Hytera PD785 and a Hytera MD785G. When these radios are programmed to set up a Radio to PC Network using RNDIS, an USB interface will be added with class 2 (Communications), subclass 2 (Abstract Modem Control) and an interface protocol of 255 ("vendor specific" - lsusb even hints "MSFT RNDIS?"). This patch is similar to the solution of this StackOverflow user, but that only works for the Hytera MD785: https://stackoverflow.com/a/53550858 To use the "Radio to PC Network" functionality of Hytera DMR radios, the radios need to be programmed correctly in CPS (Hytera's Customer Programming Software). "Forward to PC" should be checked in "Network" (under "General Setting" in "Conventional") and the "USB Network Communication Protocol" should be set to RNDIS. 2021-12-14net: cdc_ncm: Allow for dwNtbOutMaxSize to be unset or zeroLee Jones1-0/+2
commit 2be6d4d16a0849455a5c22490e3c5983495fed00 upstream. Currently, due to the sequential use of min_t() and clamp_t() macros, in cdc_ncm_check_tx_max(), if dwNtbOutMaxSize is not set, the logic sets tx_max to 0. This is then used to allocate the data area of the SKB requested later in cdc_ncm_fill_tx_frame(). This does not cause an issue presently because when memory is allocated during initialisation phase of SKB creation, more memory (512b) is allocated than is required for the SKB headers alone (320b), leaving some space (512b - 320b = 192b) for CDC data (172b). However, if more elements (for example 3 x u64 = [24b]) were added to one of the SKB header structs, say 'struct skb_shared_info', increasing its original size (320b [320b aligned]) to something larger (344b [384b aligned]), then suddenly the CDC data (172b) no longer fits in the spare SKB data area (512b - 384b = 128b). Consequently the SKB bounds checking semantics fails and panics: skbuff: skb_over_panic: text:ffffffff830a5b5f len:184 put:172 \ head:ffff888119227c00 data:ffff888119227c00 tail:0xb8 end:0x80 dev:<NULL> ------------[ cut here ]------------ kernel BUG at net/core/skbuff.c:110! 2021-11-12net: hso: register netdev later to avoid a race conditionAndreas Kemnade1-7/+7
commit 4c761daf8bb9a2cbda9facf53ea85d9061f4281e upstream. If the netdev is accessed before the urbs are initialized, there will be NULL pointer dereferences. That is avoided by registering it when it is fully initialized. This case occurs e.g. if dhcpcd is running in the background and the device is probed, either after insmod hso or when the device appears on the usb bus. 2021-06-30net: cdc_ncm: switch to eth%d interface namingMaciej Żenczykowski1-1/+1
[ Upstream commit c1a3d4067309451e68c33dbd356032549cc0bd8e ] This is meant to make the host side cdc_ncm interface consistently named just like the older CDC protocols: cdc_ether & cdc_ecm (and even rndis_host), which all use 'FLAG_ETHER | FLAG_POINTTOPOINT'. include/linux/usb/usbnet.h: #define FLAG_ETHER 0x0020 /* maybe use "eth%d" names */ #define FLAG_WLAN 0x0080 /* use "wlan%d" names */ #define FLAG_WWAN 0x0400 /* use "wwan%d" names */ #define FLAG_POINTTOPOINT 0x1000 /* possibly use "usb%d" names */ drivers/net/usb/usbnet.c @ line 1711: strcpy (net->name, "usb%d"); ... // heuristic: "usb%d" for links we know are two-host, // else "eth%d" when there's reasonable doubt. userspace // can rename the link if it knows better. if ((dev->driver_info->flags & FLAG_ETHER) != 0 && ((dev->driver_info->flags & FLAG_POINTTOPOINT) == 0 || (net->dev_addr [0] & 0x02) == 0)) strcpy (net->name, "eth%d"); /* WLAN devices should always be named "wlan%d" */ if ((dev->driver_info->flags & FLAG_WLAN) != 0) strcpy(net->name, "wlan%d"); /* WWAN devices should always be named "wwan%d" */ if ((dev->driver_info->flags & FLAG_WWAN) != 0) strcpy(net->name, "wwan%d"); So by using ETHER | POINTTOPOINT the interface naming is either usb%d or eth%d based on the global uniqueness of the mac address of the device. Without this 2.5gbps ethernet dongles which all seem to use the cdc_ncm driver end up being called usb%d instead of eth%d even though they're definitely not two-host. (All 1gbps & 5gbps ethernet usb dongles I've tested don't hit this problem due to use of different drivers, primarily r8152 and aqc111) Fixes tag is based purely on git blame, and is really just here to make sure this hits LTS branches newer than v4.5. commit 8a12f8836145ffe37e9c8733dce18c22fb668b66 upstream Multiple ttys try to claim the same the minor number causing a double unregistration of the same device. The first unregistration succeeds but the next one results in a null-ptr-deref. The get_free_serial_index() function returns an available minor number but doesn't assign it immediately. The assignment is done by the caller later. But before this assignment, calls to get_free_serial_index() would return the same minor number. Fix this by modifying get_free_serial_index to assign the minor number immediately after one is found to be and rename it to obtain_minor() to better reflect what it does. Similary, rename set_serial_by_index() to release_minor() and modify it to free up the minor number of the given hso_serial. Every obtain_minor() should have corresponding release_minor() call. Aligning to tx_ndp_modulus is not sufficient because the next align call can be cdc_ncm_align_tail, which can add up to ctx->tx_modulus + ctx->tx_remainder - 1 bytes. This used to lead to occasional crashes on a Huawei 909s-120 LTE module as follows: - the condition marked /* if there is a remaining skb [...] */ is true so the swaps happen - skb_out is set from ctx->tx_curr_skb - skb_out->len is exactly 0x3f52 - ctx->tx_curr_size is 0x4000 and delayed_ndp_size is 0xac (note that the sum of skb_out->len and delayed_ndp_size is 0x3ffe) - the for loop over n is executed once - the cdc_ncm_align_tail call marked /* align beginning of next frame */ increases skb_out->len to 0x3f56 (the sum is now 0x4002) - the condition marked /* check if we had enough room left [...] */ is false so we break out of the loop - the condition marked /* If requested, put NDP at end of frame. */ is true so the NDP is written into skb_out - now skb_out->len is 0x4002, so padding_count is minus two interpreted as an unsigned number, which is used as the length argument to memset, leading to a crash with various symptoms but usually including > Call Trace: > <IRQ> > cdc_ncm_fill_tx_frame+0x83a/0x970 [cdc_ncm] > cdc_mbim_tx_fixup+0x1d9/0x240 [cdc_mbim] > usbnet_start_xmit+0x5d/0x720 [usbnet] The cdc_ncm_align_tail call first aligns on a ctx->tx_modulus boundary (adding at most ctx->tx_modulus-1 bytes), then adds ctx->tx_remainder bytes. Alternatively, the next alignment call can occur in cdc_ncm_ndp16 or cdc_ncm_ndp32, in which case at most ctx->tx_ndp_modulus-1 bytes are added. A similar problem has occurred before, and the code is nontrivial to reason about, so add a guard before the crashing call. By that time it is too late to prevent any memory corruption (we'll have written past the end of the buffer already) but we can at least try to get a warning written into an on-disk log by avoiding the hard crash caused by padding past the buffer with a huge number of zeros. 2020-12-11usbnet: ipheth: fix connectivity with iOS 14Yves-Alexis Perez1-1/+1
[ Upstream commit f33d9e2b48a34e1558b67a473a1fc1d6e793f93c ] Starting with iOS 14 released in September 2020, connectivity using the personal hotspot USB tethering function of iOS devices is broken. Communication between the host and the device (for example ICMP traffic or DNS resolution using the DNS service running in the device itself) works fine, but communication to endpoints further away doesn't work. Investigation on the matter shows that no UDP and ICMP traffic from the tethered host is reaching the Internet at all. For TCP traffic there are exchanges between tethered host and server but packets are modified in transit leading to impossible communication. After some trials Matti Vuorela discovered that reducing the URB buffer size by two bytes restored the previous behavior. While a better solution might exist to fix the issue, since the protocol is not publicly documented and considering the small size of the fix, let's do that. commit f45a4248ea4cc13ed50618ff066849f9587226b2 upstream. When get_registers() fails in set_ethernet_addr(),the uninitialized value of node_id gets copied over as the address. So, check the return value of get_registers(). If get_registers() executed successfully (i.e., it returns sizeof(node_id)), copy over the MAC address using ether_addr_copy() (instead of using memcpy()). 2020-10-14rndis_host: increase sleep time in the query-response loopOlympia Giannou1-1/+1
[ Upstream commit 4202c9fdf03d79dedaa94b2c4cf574f25793d669 ] Some WinCE devices face connectivity issues via the NDIS interface. They fail to register, resulting in -110 timeout errors and failures during the probe procedure. In this kind of WinCE devices, the Windows-side ndis driver needs quite more time to be loaded and configured, so that the linux rndis host queries to them fail to be responded correctly on time. More specifically, when INIT is called on the WinCE side - no other requests can be served by the Client and this results in a failed QUERY afterwards. The increase of the waiting time on the side of the linux rndis host in the command-response loop leaves the INIT process to complete and respond to a QUERY, which comes afterwards. The WinCE devices with this special "feature" in their ndis driver are satisfied by this fix. Signed-off-by: Olympia Giannou <olympia.giannou@leica-geosystems.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2020-09-12net: qmi_wwan: support "raw IP" modeBjørn Mork1-1/+97
[ Upstream commit 32f7adf633b9f99ad5089901bc7ebff57704aaa9 ] QMI wwan devices have traditionally emulated ethernet devices by default. But they have always had the capability of operating without any L2 header at all, transmitting and receiving "raw" IP packets over the USB link. This firmware feature used to be configurable through the QMI management protocol. Traditionally there was no way to verify the firmware mode without attempting to change it. And the firmware would often disallow changes anyway, i.e. due to a session already being established. In some cases, this could be a hidden firmware internal session, completely outside host control. For these reasons, sticking with the "well known" default mode was safest. But newer generations of QMI hardware and firmware have moved towards defaulting to "raw IP" mode instead, followed by an increasing number of bugs in the already buggy "802.3" firmware implementation. At the same time, the QMI management protocol gained the ability to detect the current mode. This has enabled the userspace QMI management application to verify the current firmware mode without trying to modify it. Following this development, the latest QMI hardware and firmware (the MDM9x30 generation) has dropped support for "802.3" mode entirely. Support for "raw IP" framing in the driver is therefore necessary for these devices, and to a certain degree to work around problems with the previous generation, This patch adds support for "raw IP" framing for QMI devices, changing the netdev from an ethernet device to an ARPHRD_NONE p-t-p device when "raw IP" framing is enabled. The firmware setup is fully delegated to the QMI userspace management application, through simple tunneling of the QMI protocol. The driver will therefore not know which mode has been "negotiated" between firmware and userspace. Allowing userspace to inform the driver of the result through a sysfs switch is considered a better alternative than to change the well established clean delegation of firmware management to userspace. [ Upstream commit 93725149794d3d418cf1eddcae60c7b536c5faa1 ] MDM9x30 based modems appear to go into a deeper sleep when suspended without "Remote Wakeup" enabled. The QMI interface will not respond unless a "set DTR" control request is sent on resume. The effect is similar to a QMI_CTL SYNC request, resetting (some of) the firmware state. We allow userspace sessions to span multiple character device open/close sequences. This means that userspace can depend on firmware state while both the netdev and the character device are closed. We have disabled "needs_remote_wakeup" at this point to allow devices without remote wakeup support to be auto-suspended. To make sure the MDM9x30 keeps firmware state, we need to keep "needs_remote_wakeup" always set. We also need to issue a "set DTR" request to enable the QMI interface.
