2010-05-10net: trans_start cleanupsEric Dumazet1-1/+0
Now that core network takes care of trans_start updates, dont do it in drivers themselves, if possible. Drivers can avoid one cache miss (on dev->trans_start) in their start_xmit() handler. Exceptions are NETIF_F_LLTX drivers Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <eric.dumazet@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2010-04-04net: convert multicast list to list_headJiri Pirko1-4/+4
Converts the list and the core manipulating with it to be the same as uc_list. +uses two functions for adding/removing mc address (normal and "global" variant) instead of a function parameter. +removes dev_mcast.c completely. +exposes netdev_hw_addr_list_* macros along with __hw_addr_* functions for manipulation with lists on a sandbox (used in bonding and 80211 drivers) Signed-off-by: Jiri Pirko <jpirko@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

Use the %pM kernel extension to display the MAC address. Signed-off-by: H Hartley Sweeten <hsweeten@visionengravers.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2009-09-23drivers/net: remove duplicate structure field initializationJulia Lawall1-1/+0
The definitions of vnet_ops and ehea_netdev_ops have initializations of a local function and eth_change_mtu for their respective ndo_change_mtu fields. This change uses only the local function. The semantic match that finds this problem is as follows: (http://coccinelle.lip6.fr/) // <smpl> @r@ identifier I, s, fld; position p0,p; expression E; @@ struct I s =@p0 { ... .fld@p = E, ...}; @s@ identifier I, s, r.fld; position r.p0,p; expression E; @@ struct I s =@p0 { ... .fld@p = E, ...}; @script:python@ p0 << r.p0; fld << r.fld; ps << s.p; pr << r.p; @@ if int(ps[0].line)!=int(pr[0].line) or int(ps[0].column)!=int(pr[0].column): cocci.print_main(fld,p0) // </smpl> Signed-off-by: Julia Lawall <julia@diku.dk> Signed-off-by: David S. 2009-07-13netdev: restore MTU change operationBen Hutchings1-0/+1
alloc_etherdev() used to install a default implementation of this operation, but it must now be explicitly installed in struct net_device_ops. Signed-off-by: Ben Hutchings <ben@decadent.org.uk> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2009-01-07sparc64: Fix unsigned long long warnings in drivers.Sam Ravnborg1-4/+4
Fix warnings caused by the unsigned long long usage in sparc specific drivers. The drivers were considered sparc specific more or less from the filename alone. 2008-10-28net: convert print_mac to %pMJohannes Berg1-3/+2
This converts pretty much everything to print_mac. There were a few things that had conflicts which I have just dropped for now, no harm done. I've built an allyesconfig with this and looked at the files that weren't built very carefully, but it's a huge patch. Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes@sipsolutions.net> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-09-01sparc64: Apply const or __initdata to vio_device_id[]David S. Miller1-2/+2
This mirrors the of_device_id[] changes done in fd098316ef533e8441576f020ead4beab93154ce ("sparc: Annotate of_device_id arrays with const or __initdata.") Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2007-08-01[NET]: ethtool_perm_addr only has one implementationMatthew Wilcox1-1/+0
All drivers implement ethtool get_perm_addr the same way -- by calling the generic function. So we can inline the generic function into the caller and avoid going through the drivers. Signed-off-by: Matthew Wilcox <matthew@wil.cx> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2007-07-18[SPARC64]: Fix reset handling in VNET driver.David S. Miller1-0/+2
In vnet_event(), if the channel was reset, try to get the link going again by invoking vio_port_up() after dropping the lock. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2007-07-16[SPARC64]: Abstract out mdesc accesses for better MD update handling.David S. Miller1-13/+21
Since we have to be able to handle MD updates, having an in-tree set of data structures representing the MD objects actually makes things more painful. The MD itself is easy to parse, and we can implement the existing interfaces using direct parsing of the MD binary image. The MD is now reference counted, so accesses have to now take the form: handle = mdesc_grab(); ... operations on MD ... mdesc_release(handle); The only remaining issue are cases where code holds on to references to MD property values. mdesc_get_property() returns a direct pointer to the property value, most cases just pull in the information they need and discard the pointer, but there are few that use the pointer directly over a long lifetime. Those will be fixed up in a subsequent changeset. A preliminary handler for MD update events from domain services is there, it is rudimentry but it works and handles all of the reference counting. It does not check the generation number of the MDs, and it does not generate a "add/delete" list for notification to interesting parties about MD changes but that will be forthcoming.
