2008-11-04drivers/net: Kill now superfluous ->last_rx stores.David S. Miller1-2/+0
The generic packet receive code takes care of setting netdev->last_rx when necessary, for the sake of the bonding ARP monitor. Drivers need not do it any more. Some cases had to be skipped over because the drivers were making use of the ->last_rx value themselves. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-10-28net: convert print_mac to %pMJohannes Berg1-3/+2
This converts pretty much everything to print_mac. There were a few things that had conflicts which I have just dropped for now, no harm done. I've built an allyesconfig with this and looked at the files that weren't built very carefully, but it's a huge patch. Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes@sipsolutions.net> Signed-off-by: David S. 2008-09-01sparc: remove CONFIG_SUN4Adrian Bunk1-42/+0
While doing some easy cleanups on the sparc code I noticed that the CONFIG_SUN4 code seems to be worse than the rest - there were some "I don't know how it should work, but the current code definitely cannot work." places. And while I have seen people running Linux on machines like a SPARCstation 5 a few years ago I don't recall having seen sun4 machines, even less ones running Linux. 2008-08-31sparc: Annotate of_device_id arrays with const or __initdata.David S. Miller1-1/+1
As suggested by Stephen Rothwell. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-08-29sunlance: Convert to pure OF driver.David S. Miller1-47/+40

2008-08-29sparc: Convert all SBUS drivers to dma_*() interfaces.David S. Miller1-7/+8
And all the SBUS dma interfaces are deleted. A private implementation remains inside of the 32-bit sparc port which exists only for the sake of the implementation of dma_*(). Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-08-29sparc: Make SBUS DMA interfaces take struct device.David S. Miller1-2/+3
This is the first step in converting all the SBUS drivers over to generic dma_*(). Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-08-29sparc: Kill SBUS DVMA layer.David S. Miller1-24/+27
This thing was completely pointless. Just find the OF device in the parent of drivers that want to program this device, and map the DMA regs inside such drivers too. This also moves the dummy claim_dma_lock() and release_dma_lock() implementation to floppy_32.h, which makes it handle this issue just like floppy_64.h does. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-06-12drivers/net/: remove write-only "last_dev"Adrian Bunk1-4/+0
This patch removes write-only global "last_dev" variables from the following drivers: - a2065.c - declance.c - sunlance.c Signed-off-by: Adrian Bunk <bunk@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Jeff Garzik <jgarzik@redhat.com>

2007-10-11[NET] drivers/net: statistics cleanup #1 -- save memory and shrink codeJeff Garzik1-48/+39
We now have struct net_device_stats embedded in struct net_device, and the default ->get_stats() hook does the obvious thing for us. Run through drivers/net/* and remove the driver-local storage of statistics, and driver-local ->get_stats() hook where applicable. This was just the low-hanging fruit in drivers/net; plenty more drivers remain to be updated. 2007-10-11[NET]: Nuke SET_MODULE_OWNER macro.Ralf Baechle1-1/+0
It's been a useless no-op for long enough in 2.6 so I figured it's time to remove it. The number of people that could object because they're maintaining unified 2.4 and 2.6 drivers is probably rather small. 2007-10-11[PATCH] drivers/net: remove superfluous memsetMariusz Kozlowski1-1/+0
This patch covers something like this: dev = alloc_*dev(... ... priv = netdev_priv(dev); memset(priv, 0, sizeof(*priv)); The memset() here is superfluous. alloc_netdev() uses kzalloc() to allocate needed memory so there is no need to zero the priv region twice. 2007-07-31[SUNLANCE]: Fix sparc32 crashes by using of_*() interfaces.David S. Miller1-28/+20
This driver was still using the deprecated prom_*() interfaces to obtain values out of the OBP device tree, and this is causing some kinds of problems on sparc32 especially SMP boxes. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2007-07-11[NET]: Kill eth_copy_and_sum().David S. Miller1-2/+2
It hasn't "summed" anything in over 7 years, and it's just a straight mempcy ala skb_copy_to_linear_data() so just get rid of it. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2007-04-26[SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_copy_from_linear_data{_offset}Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo1-1/+1

2007-04-26[ETH]: Make eth_type_trans set skb->dev like the other *_type_transArnaldo Carvalho de Melo1-2/+0

2006-10-05IRQ: Maintain regs pointer globally rather than passing to IRQ handlersDavid Howells1-1/+1
Maintain a per-CPU global "struct pt_regs *" variable which can be used instead of passing regs around manually through all ~1800 interrupt handlers in the Linux kernel. The regs pointer is used in few places, but it potentially costs both stack space and code to pass it around. On the FRV arch, removing the regs parameter from all the genirq function results in a 20% speed up of the IRQ exit path (ie: from leaving timer_interrupt() to leaving do_IRQ()). Where appropriate, an arch may override the generic storage facility and do something different with the variable. On FRV, for instance, the address is maintained in GR28 at all times inside the kernel as part of general exception handling. Having looked over the code, it appears that the parameter may be handed down through up to twenty or so layers of functions. Consider a USB character device attached to a USB hub, attached to a USB controller that posts its interrupts through a cascaded auxiliary interrupt controller. A character device driver may want to pass regs to the sysrq handler through the input layer which adds another few layers of parameter passing. I've build this code with allyesconfig for x86_64 and i386. I've runtested the main part of the code on FRV and i386, though I can't test most of the drivers. I've also done partial conversion for powerpc and MIPS - these at least compile with minimal configurations. This will affect all archs. Mostly the changes should be relatively easy. Take do_IRQ(), store the regs pointer at the beginning, saving the old one: struct pt_regs *old_regs = set_irq_regs(regs); And put the old one back at the end: set_irq_regs(old_regs); Don't pass regs through to generic_handle_irq() or __do_IRQ(). In timer_interrupt(), this sort of change will be necessary: - update_process_times(user_mode(regs)); - profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING, regs); + update_process_times(user_mode(get_irq_regs())); + profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING); I'd like to move update_process_times()'s use of get_irq_regs() into itself, except that i386, alone of the archs, uses something other than user_mode(). Some notes on the interrupt handling in the drivers: (*) input_dev() is now gone entirely. The regs pointer is no longer stored in the input_dev struct. (*) finish_unlinks() in drivers/usb/host/ohci-q.c needs checking. It does something different depending on whether it's been supplied with a regs pointer or not. (*) Various IRQ handler function pointers have been moved to type irq_handler_t. 2006-06-20[SPARC]: Kill __irq_itoa().David S. Miller1-1/+1
This ugly hack was long overdue to die. It was a way to print out Sparc interrupts in a more freindly format, since IRQ numbers were arbitrary opaque 32-bit integers which vectored into PIL levels. These 32-bit integers were not necessarily in the 0-->NR_IRQS range, but the PILs they vectored to were. The idea now is that we will increase NR_IRQS a little bit and use a virtual<-->real IRQ number mapping scheme similar to PowerPC. That makes this IRQ printing hack irrelevant, and furthermore only a handful of drivers actually used __irq_itoa() making it even less useful. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2005-04-25[SPARC]: module version cleanupsTom 'spot' Callaway1-4/+13

2005-04-17Linux-2.6.12-rc2v2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds1-0/+1614
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
