12 daysnet: mdio: aspeed: add dummy read to avoid read-after-write issueJacky Chou1-0/+7
[ Upstream commit d1a1a4bade4b20c0858d0b2f81d2611de055f675 ] The Aspeed MDIO controller may return incorrect data when a read operation follows immediately after a write. Due to a controller bug, the subsequent read can latch stale data, causing the polling logic to terminate earlier than expected. To work around this hardware issue, insert a dummy read after each write operation. This ensures that the next actual read returns the correct data and prevents premature polling exit. This workaround has been verified to stabilize MDIO transactions on affected Aspeed platforms. [ Upstream commit a0f849c1cc6df0db9083b4c81c05a5456b1ed0fb ] fixed_phy_register() creates and registers the phy_device. To be symmetric, we should not only unregister, but also free the phy_device in fixed_phy_unregister(). This allows to simplify code in users. [ Upstream commit b23285e93bef729e67519a5209d5b7fde3b4af50 ] This bit is necessary to receive packets from the internal PHY. Without this bit set, no activity occurs on the interface. Normally u-boot sets this bit, but if u-boot is compiled without net support, the interface will be up but without any activity. If bit is set once, it will work until the IP is powered down or reset. The vendor SDK sets this bit along with the PHY_ID bits. 2023-10-19net: mdio-mux: fix C45 access returning -EIO after API changeVladimir Oltean1-0/+47
The mii_bus API conversion to read_c45() and write_c45() did not cover the mdio-mux driver before read() and write() were made C22-only. This broke arch/arm64/boot/dts/freescale/fsl-ls1028a-qds-13bb.dtso. The -EOPNOTSUPP from mdiobus_c45_read() is transformed by get_phy_c45_devs_in_pkg() into -EIO, is further propagated to of_mdiobus_register() and this makes the mdio-mux driver fail to probe the entire child buses, not just the PHYs that cause access errors. Fix the regression by introducing special c45 read and write accessors to mdio-mux which forward the operation to the parent MDIO bus. 2023-08-19net: mdio: mdio-bitbang: Fix C45 read/write protocolSerge Semin1-2/+2
Based on the original code semantic in case of Clause 45 MDIO, the address command is supposed to be followed by the command sending the MMD address, not the CSR address. The commit 002dd3de097c ("net: mdio: mdio-bitbang: Separate C22 and C45 transactions") has erroneously broken that. So most likely due to an unfortunate variable name it switched the code to sending the CSR address. In our case it caused the protocol malfunction so the read operation always failed with the turnaround bit always been driven to one by PHY instead of zero. Fix that by getting back the correct behaviour: sending MMD address command right after the regular address command. 2023-06-05net: mdio: Introduce a regmap-based mdio driverMaxime Chevallier3-0/+105
There exists several examples today of devices that embed an ethernet PHY or PCS directly inside an SoC. In this situation, either the device is controlled through a vendor-specific register set, or sometimes exposes the standard 802.3 registers that are typically accessed over MDIO. As phylib and phylink are designed to use mdiodevices, this driver allows creating a virtual MDIO bus, that translates mdiodev register accesses to regmap accesses. The reason we use regmap is because there are at least 3 such devices known today, 2 of them are Altera TSE PCS's, memory-mapped, exposed with a 4-byte stride in stmmac's dwmac-socfpga variant, and a 2-byte stride in altera-tse. The other one (nxp,sja1110-base-tx-mdio) is exposed over SPI. 2022-12-06net: mdio: fix unbalanced fwnode reference count in mdio_device_release()Zeng Heng1-1/+2
There is warning report about of_node refcount leak while probing mdio device: OF: ERROR: memory leak, expected refcount 1 instead of 2, of_node_get()/of_node_put() unbalanced - destroy cset entry: attach overlay node /spi/soc@0/mdio@710700c0/ethernet@4 In of_mdiobus_register_device(), we increase fwnode refcount by fwnode_handle_get() before associating the of_node with mdio device, but it has never been decreased in normal path. Since that, in mdio_device_release(), it needs to call fwnode_handle_put() in addition instead of calling kfree() directly. After above, just calling mdio_device_free() in the error handle path of of_mdiobus_register_device() is enough to keep the refcount balanced. 2022-12-05net: mdiobus: fix double put fwnode in the error pathYang Yingliang1-1/+3
If phy_device_register() or fwnode_mdiobus_phy_device_register() fail, phy_device_free() is called, the device refcount is decreased to 0, then fwnode_handle_put() will be called in phy_device_release(), but in the error path, fwnode_handle_put() has already been called, so set fwnode to NULL after fwnode_handle_put() in the error path to avoid double put. 2022-11-29net: mdiobus: fix unbalanced node reference countYang Yingliang1-1/+1
I got the following report while doing device(mscc-miim) load test with CONFIG_OF_UNITTEST and CONFIG_OF_DYNAMIC enabled: OF: ERROR: memory leak, expected refcount 1 instead of 2, of_node_get()/of_node_put() unbalanced - destroy cset entry: attach overlay node /spi/soc@0/mdio@7107009c/ethernet-phy@0 If the 'fwnode' is not an acpi node, the refcount is get in fwnode_mdiobus_phy_device_register(), but it has never been put when the device is freed in the normal path. So call fwnode_handle_put() in phy_device_release() to avoid leak. If it's an acpi node, it has never been get, but it's put in the error path, so call fwnode_handle_get() before phy_device_register() to keep get/put operation balanced. 2022-10-03net: phy: mdio-i2c: support I2C MDIO protocol for RollBall SFP modulesMarek BehĂșn1-5/+305
Some multigig SFPs from RollBall and Hilink do not expose functional MDIO access to the internal PHY of the SFP via I2C address 0x56 (although there seems to be read-only clause 22 access on this address). Instead these SFPs PHY can be accessed via I2C via the SFP Enhanced Digital Diagnostic Interface - I2C address 0x51. The SFP_PAGE has to be selected to 3 and the password must be filled with 0xff bytes for this PHY communication to work. This extends the mdio-i2c driver to support this protocol by adding a special parameter to mdio_i2c_alloc function via which this RollBall protocol can be selected.
