2011-08-11intel: Move the Intel wired LAN driversJeff Kirsher1-758/+0
Moves the Intel wired LAN drivers into drivers/net/ethernet/intel/ and the necessary Kconfig and Makefile changes. Signed-off-by: Jeff Kirsher <jeffrey.t.kirsher@intel.com>
2011-05-04ixgb: convert to set_phys_idJeff Kirsher1-34/+12
Based on the original patch sent by Stephen Hemminger. This version incorporates the ethtool changes that Bruce Allan submitted. CC: Stephen Hemminger <shemminger@vyatta.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Kirsher <jeffrey.t.kirsher@intel.com> Tested-by: Evan Swanson <evan.swanson@intel.com>
2011-04-30ethtool: cosmetic: Use ethtool ethtool_cmd_speed APIDavid Decotigny1-2/+2
This updates the network drivers so that they don't access the ethtool_cmd::speed field directly, but use ethtool_cmd_speed() instead. For most of the drivers, these changes are purely cosmetic and don't fix any problem, such as for those 1GbE/10GbE drivers that indirectly call their own ethtool get_settings()/mii_ethtool_gset(). The changes are meant to enforce code consistency and provide robustness with future larger throughputs, at the expense of a few CPU cycles for each ethtool operation. All drivers compiled with make allyesconfig ion x86_64 have been updated. Tested: make allyesconfig on x86_64 + e1000e/bnx2x work Signed-off-by: David Decotigny <decot@google.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2011-04-30ethtool: Use full 32 bit speed range in ethtool's set_settingsDavid Decotigny1-1/+2
This makes sure the ethtool's set_settings() callback of network drivers don't ignore the 16 most significant bits when ethtool calls their set_settings(). All drivers compiled with make allyesconfig on x86_64 have been updated. Signed-off-by: David Decotigny <decot@google.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2011-03-11ixgb: convert to new VLAN modelEmil Tantilov1-0/+39
Based on a patch from Jesse Gross <jesse@nicira.com> This switches the ixgb driver to use the new VLAN interfaces. In doing this, it completes the work begun in ae54496f9e8d40c89e5668205c181dccfa9ecda1 allowing the use of hardware VLAN insertion without having a VLAN group configured. CC: Jesse Gross <jesse@nicira.com> Signed-off-by: Emil Tantilov <emil.s.tantilov@intel.com> Tested-by: Jeff Pieper <jeffrey.e.pieper@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Kirsher <jeffrey.t.kirsher@intel.com>

2009-10-13ixgb: Fix erroneous display of stats by ethtool -SAjit Khaparde1-5/+22
Commit 5675f221 overlooked the way offsets for netdev stats were considered. Because of this some of the stats shown by ethtool -S were wrong. This patch fixes it. Signed-off-by: Ajit Khaparde <ajitk@serverengines.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2009-10-08ixgb: Use the instance of net_device_stats from net_device.Ajit Khaparde1-22/+24
Since net_device has an instance of net_device_stats, we can remove the instance of this from the private adapter structure. Signed-off-by: Ajit Khaparde <ajitk@serverengines.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2008-02-24ixgb: add RNBC counter - no buffer count - to ethtool statsAuke Kok1-0/+1
This counter is valuable to determine if the system is unable to timely return buffers to the hardware and this counter starts to increase well before the hardware starts to drop packets. If users experience rx_no_buffer_count increasing, they should increase the amount of descriptors. That will provide more buffers for the hardware and will decrease the chance of hard drops. 2007-10-11[ETHTOOL] Provide default behaviors for a few ethtool sub-ioctlsJeff Garzik1-2/+0
For the operations get-tx-csum get-sg get-tso get-ufo the default ethtool_op_xxx behavior is fine for all drivers, so we permit op==NULL to imply the default behavior. This provides a more uniform behavior across all drivers, eliminating ethtool(8) "ioctl not supported" errors on older drivers that had not been updated for the latest sub-ioctls. The ethtool_op_xxx() functions are left exported, in case anyone wishes to call them directly from a driver-private implementation -- a not-uncommon case. Should an ethtool_op_xxx() helper remain unused for a while, except by net/core/ethtool.c, we can un-export it at a later date. 2007-08-01[NET]: ethtool_perm_addr only has one implementationMatthew Wilcox1-1/+0
All drivers implement ethtool get_perm_addr the same way -- by calling the generic function. So we can inline the generic function into the caller and avoid going through the drivers. Signed-off-by: Matthew Wilcox <matthew@wil.cx> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
