2011-11-28jme: PHY configuration for compatible issueAries Lee2-3/+129
To perform PHY calibration and set a different EA value by chip ID, Whenever the NIC chip power on, ie booting or resuming, we need to force HW to calibrate PHY parameter again, and also set a proper EA value which gather from experiment. Those procedures help to reduce compatible issues(NIC is unable to link up in some special case) in giga speed. 2011-11-24ehea: Reduce memory usage in buffer poolsAnton Blanchard1-2/+2
Now that we enable multiqueue by default the ehea driver is using quite a lot of memory for its buffer pools. With 4 queues we consume 64MB in the jumbo packet ring, 16MB in the medium packet ring and 16MB in the tiny packet ring. We should only fill the jumbo ring once the MTU is increased but for now halve it's size so it consumes 32MB. Also reduce the tiny packet ring, with 4 queues we had 16k entries which is overkill. 2011-11-24qlge: fix size of external list for TX address descriptorsThadeu Lima de Souza Cascardo1-5/+3
When transmiting a fragmented skb, qlge fills a descriptor with the fragment addresses, after DMA-mapping them. If there are more than eight fragments, it will use the eighth descriptor as a pointer to an external list. After mapping this external list, called OAL to a structure containing more descriptors, it fills it with the extra fragments. However, considering that systems with pages larger than 8KiB would have less than 8 fragments, which was true before commit a715dea3c8e, it defined a macro for the OAL size as 0 in those cases. Now, if a skb with more than 8 fragments (counting skb->data as one fragment), this would start overwriting the list of addresses already mapped and would make the driver fail to properly unmap the right addresses on architectures with pages larger than 8KiB. Besides that, the list of mappings was one size too small, since it must have a mapping for the maxinum number of skb fragments plus one for skb->data and another for the OAL. So, even on architectures with page sizes 4KiB and 8KiB, a skb with the maximum number of fragments would make the driver overwrite its counter for the number of mappings, which, again, would make it fail to unmap the mapped DMA addresses. The hardware has a restriction that the minimum ring size possible is 128. The number of elements used is controlled by tx_pending and the overall number of elements in the ring tx_ring_size, therefore it is okay to limit the number of elements in use to a small value (63) but still provide a bigger ring. New GMAC devices (newer than the databook 3.50a) have the HW capability register that provides which features are actually supported by the hardware. On old devices many information have to be passed through the platform, for example: enhanced descriptor structure, TX COE etc. These are mandatory to properly configure the driver. This remains still valid because the driver has to support old Synopsys devices but now it's also able to override them using the values from the HW capability register if supported. The default Tx ring size for the sky2 driver is quite large and could cause excess buffer bloat for many users. The minimum ring size possible and still allow handling the worst case packet on 64bit platforms is 38 which gets rounded up to a power of 2. But most packets only require a couple of ring elements. This change makes sure that tx_packets/rx_bytes ifconfig counters are updated even on NICs that don't provide hardware support for these stats: they are now updated in software. For the sake of consistency, we also now have tx_bytes updated in software (hardware counters include ethernet CRC, and software doesn't account for it). To prevent the SBus driver for Sun Happy Meal cards from being loaded for PCI cards utilizing the same chipset, a filter was added to the probe function in commit 0b492fce3d72d982a7981905f85484a1e1ba7fde. The filter was implemented by checking the name of the parent node in the OF tree. This patch extends this filter, so that the driver will load on SBus systems that are based upon SBI SBus Bridges. 2011-11-08r8169: increase the delay parameter of pm_schedule_suspendhayeswang1-1/+1
The link down would occur when reseting PHY. And it would take about 2 ~ 5 seconds from link down to link up. If the delay of pm_schedule_suspend is not long enough, the device would enter runtime_suspend before link up. After link up, the device would wake up and reset PHY again. Then, you would find the driver keep in a loop of runtime_suspend and rumtime_resume. 2011-11-07forcedeth: Improve stats countersMandeep Baines1-0/+4
Rx byte count was off; instead use the hardware's count. Tx packet count was counting pre-TSO packets; instead count on-the-wire packets. Report hardware dropped frame count as rx_fifo_errors. - The count of transmitted packets reported by the forcedeth driver reports pre-TSO (TCP Segmentation Offload) packet counts and not the count of the number of packets sent on the wire. This change fixes the forcedeth driver to report the correct count. Fixed the code by copying the count stored in the NIC H/W to the value reported by the driver. - Count rx_drop_frame errors as rx_fifo_errors: We see a lot of rx_drop_frame errors if we disable the rx bottom-halves for too long. Normally, rx_fifo_errors would be counted in this case. The rx_drop_frame error count is private to forcedeth and is not reported by ifconfig or sysfs. The rx_fifo_errors count is currently unused in the forcedeth driver. It is reported by ifconfig as overruns. This change reports rx_drop_frame errors as rx_fifo_errors. Function ndo_get_stats() updates most of the stats from hardware registers, making the manual updates un-needed. This change removes these manual updates. Main exception is rx_missed_errors which needs manual update. Another exception is rx_packets, still updated manually in this commit to make sure this patch doesn't change behavior of driver. 2011-11-05sky2: fix regression on Yukon Optimastephen hemminger1-11/+0
Changes to support other Optima types, introduced an accidental regression that caused 88E8059 to come up in 10Mbit/sec. The Yukon Optima supports a reverse auto-negotiation feature that was incorrectly setup, and not needed. The feature could be used to allow wake-on-lan at higher speeds. 2011-11-05i825xx:xscale:8390:freescale: Fix Kconfig dependanciesJeff Kirsher3-4/+10
i825xx and xscale are "sub" Kconfigs to NET_VENDOR_INTEL, so NET_VENDOR_INTEL should contain ALL the dependencies of the "sub" Kconfigs. Same with 8390 is a "sub" Kconfig to NET_VENDOR_NATSEMI, so NET_VENDOR_NATSEMI needs to contains ALL the dependencies. Freescale Kconfig only had fs_enet as a sub Kconfig, and already contained the needed dependencies, just cleaned up the dependencies. 2011-11-05tg3: Eliminate timer race with reset_taskMatt Carlson2-13/+2
During shutdown, it is impossible to reliably disable the timer and reset_task threads. Each thread can schedule the other, which leads to shutdown code that chases its tail. To fix the problem, this patch removes the ability of tg3_reset_task to schedule a new timer thread. To support this change, tg3_timer no longer terminates itself, but rather goes into a polling mode. 2011-11-05tg3: Schedule at most one tg3_reset_task runMatt Carlson2-9/+25
It is possible for multiple threads in the tg3 driver to each attempt to schedule a run of tg3_reset_task(). The multiple tg3_reset_task executions could all wind up on the same queue (and execute serially) or wind up on the queues of another processor (which could execute in parallel). Either scenario is not what was truly desired. This patch adds a new flag, TG3_FLAG_RESET_TASK_PENDING, and uses it to determine whether or not to schedule another run of tg3_reset_task(). With the new flag comes two new functions to facilitate scheduling and descheduling of tg3_reset_task().
