2019-08-04net: axienet: Fix race condition causing TX hangRobert Hancock1-3/+17
[ Upstream commit 7de44285c1f69ccfbe8be1d6a16fcd956681fee6 ] It is possible that the interrupt handler fires and frees up space in the TX ring in between checking for sufficient TX ring space and stopping the TX queue in axienet_start_xmit. If this happens, the queue wake from the interrupt handler will occur before the queue is stopped, causing a lost wakeup and the adapter's transmit hanging. To avoid this, after stopping the queue, check again whether there is sufficient space in the TX ring. If so, wake up the queue again. 2017-06-17net: xilinx_emaclite: fix receive buffer overflowAnssi Hannula1-3/+7
[ Upstream commit cd224553641848dd17800fe559e4ff5d208553e8 ] xilinx_emaclite looks at the received data to try to determine the Ethernet packet length but does not properly clamp it if proto_type == ETH_P_IP or 1500 < proto_type <= 1518, causing a buffer overflow and a panic via skb_panic() as the length exceeds the allocated skb size. Fix those cases. Also add an additional unconditional check with WARN_ON() at the end. 2017-06-17net: xilinx_emaclite: fix freezes due to unordered I/OAnssi Hannula1-54/+62
[ Upstream commit acf138f1b00bdd1b7cd9894562ed0c2a1670888e ] The xilinx_emaclite uses __raw_writel and __raw_readl for register accesses. Those functions do not imply any kind of memory barriers and they may be reordered. The driver does not seem to take that into account, though, and the driver does not satisfy the ordering requirements of the hardware. For clear examples, see xemaclite_mdio_write() and xemaclite_mdio_read() which try to set MDIO address before initiating the transaction. I'm seeing system freezes with the driver with GCC 5.4 and current Linux kernels on Zynq-7000 SoC immediately when trying to use the interface. In commit 123c1407af87 ("net: emaclite: Do not use microblaze and ppc IO functions") the driver was switched from non-generic in_be32/out_be32 (memory barriers, big endian) to __raw_readl/__raw_writel (no memory barriers, native endian), so apparently the device follows system endianness and the driver was originally written with the assumption of memory barriers. Rather than try to hunt for each case of missing barrier, just switch the driver to use iowrite32/ioread32/iowrite32be/ioread32be depending on endianness instead. Tested on little-endian Zynq-7000 ARM SoC FPGA. 2015-09-25net: fix phy refcounting in a bunch of driversRussell King1-0/+2
of_phy_find_device() increments the phy struct device refcount, which we need to properly balance. Add code to network drivers using this function to ensure that the struct device refcount is correctly balanced. For xgene, looking back in the history, we should be able to use of_phy_connect() with a zero flags argument for the DT case as this is how the driver used to operate prior to de7b5b3d790a ("net: eth: xgene: change APM X-Gene SoC platform ethernet to support ACPI"). This leaves the Cavium Thunder BGX unfixed; fixing this driver is a complicated task, one which the maintainers need to be involved with. This howto made sense in the 1990s when users had to manually configure ISA cards with jumpers or vendor utilities, but with the implementation of PCI it became increasingly less and less relevant, to the point where it has been well over a decade since I last updated it. And there is no value in anyone else taking over updating it either. However the references to it continue to spread as boiler plate text from one Kconfig file into the next. We are not doing end users any favours by pointing them at this old document, so lets kill it with fire, once and for all, to hopefully stop any further spread. Four minor merge conflicts: 1) qca_spi.c renamed the local variable used for the SPI device from spi_device to spi, meanwhile the spi_set_drvdata() call got moved further up in the probe function. 2) Two changes were both adding new members to codel params structure, and thus we had overlapping changes to the initializer function. 3) 'net' was making a fix to sk_release_kernel() which is completely removed in 'net-next'. 4) In net_namespace.c, the rtnl_net_fill() call for GET operations had the command value fixed, meanwhile 'net-next' adjusted the argument signature a bit. In the current implementation, jumbo frames are supported only for the frame sizes > 16K. This patch corrects this logic to handle jumbo frames for lesser frame sizes (< 16K) ensuring jumbo frame MTU is within the limit of max frame size configured in the h/w design. The packet completion interrupts for TX and RX should be serviced before the packets are consumed. This ensures against the degenerate case when a new completion interrupt is raised after the handler has exited but before the interrupts are cleared. In this case its possible for the ISR to clear an unhandled interrupt (leading to potential deadlock). 2015-05-06net: axienet: Handle 0 packet receive gracefullyPeter Crosthwaite1-3/+4
The AXI-DMA rx-delay interrupt can sometimes be triggered when there are 0 outstanding packets received. This is due to the fact that the receive function will greedily consume as many packets as possible on interrupt. So if two packets (with a very particular timing) arrive in succession they will each cause the rx-delay interrupt, but the first interrupt will consume both packets. This means the second interrupt is a 0 packet receive. This is mostly OK, except that the tail pointer register is updated unconditionally on receive. Currently the tail pointer is always set to the current bd-ring descriptor under the assumption that the hardware has moved onto the next descriptor. What this means for length 0 recv is the current descriptor that the hardware is potentially yet to use will be marked as the tail. This causes the hardware to think its run out of descriptors deadlocking the whole rx path. Fixed by updating the tail pointer to the most recent successfully consumed descriptor.
