2023-10-25i40e: prevent crash on probe if hw registers have invalid valuesMichal Schmidt1-2/+2
commit fc6f716a5069180c40a8c9b63631e97da34f64a3 upstream. The hardware provides the indexes of the first and the last available queue and VF. From the indexes, the driver calculates the numbers of queues and VFs. In theory, a faulty device might say the last index is smaller than the first index. In that case, the driver's calculation would underflow, it would attempt to write to non-existent registers outside of the ioremapped range and crash. I ran into this not by having a faulty device, but by an operator error. I accidentally ran a QE test meant for i40e devices on an ice device. The test used 'echo i40e > /sys/...ice PCI device.../driver_override', bound the driver to the device and crashed in one of the wr32 calls in i40e_clear_hw. Add checks to prevent underflows in the calculations of num_queues and num_vfs. With this fix, the wrong device probing reports errors and returns a failure without crashing. At the same time another structure is used to provide configuration of timestamper to user-space applications. The way it was coded makes this structures go out of sync easily. The repro is easy for 82599 chips: [root@hostname ~]# hwstamp_ctl -i eth0 -r 12 -t 1 current settings: tx_type 0 rx_filter 0 new settings: tx_type 1 rx_filter 12 The eth0 device is properly configured to timestamp any PTPv2 events. [root@hostname ~]# hwstamp_ctl -i eth0 -r 1 -t 1 current settings: tx_type 1 rx_filter 12 SIOCSHWTSTAMP failed: Numerical result out of range The requested time stamping mode is not supported by the hardware. The error is properly returned because HW doesn't support all packets timestamping. But the adapter->flags is cleared of timestamp flags even though no HW configuration was done. From that point no RX timestamps are received by user-space application. But configuration shows good values: [root@hostname ~]# hwstamp_ctl -i eth0 current settings: tx_type 1 rx_filter 12 Fix the issue by applying new flags only when the HW was actually configured. As the PCIE error in this case is a non-fatal one, requesting a slot reset can be avoided. This patch fixes the task hung issue and preserves Ethernet connection by ignoring non-fatal PCIE errors. [ Upstream commit e85d3d55875f7a1079edfbc4e4e98d6f8aea9ac7 ] ethtool uses `ETHTOOL_GRXRINGS` to compute how many queues are supported by RSS. The driver should return the smaller of either: - The maximum number of RSS queues the device supports, OR - The number of RX queues configured Prior to this change, running `ethtool -X $iface default` fails if the number of queues configured is larger than the number supported by RSS, even though changing the queue count correctly resets the flowhash to use all supported queues. Other drivers (for example, i40e) will succeed but the flow hash will reset to support the maximum number of queues supported by RSS, even if that amount is smaller than the configured amount. Prior to this change: $ sudo ethtool -L eth1 combined 20 $ sudo ethtool -x eth1 RX flow hash indirection table for eth1 with 20 RX ring(s): 0: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8: 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 24: 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 32: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 ... You can see that the flowhash was correctly set to use the maximum number of queues supported by the driver (16). However, asking the NIC to reset to "default" fails: $ sudo ethtool -X eth1 default Cannot set RX flow hash configuration: Invalid argument After this change, the flowhash can be reset to default which will use all of the available RSS queues (16) or the configured queue count, whichever is smaller. Starting with eth1 which has 10 queues and a flowhash distributing to all 10 queues: $ sudo ethtool -x eth1 RX flow hash indirection table for eth1 with 10 RX ring(s): 0: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8: 8 9 0 1 2 3 4 5 16: 6 7 8 9 0 1 2 3 ... 2023-05-17ixgbe: Allow flow hash to be set via ethtoolJoe Damato1-2/+2
[ Upstream commit 4f3ed1293feb9502dc254b05802faf1ad3317ac6 ] ixgbe currently returns `EINVAL` whenever the flowhash it set by ethtool because the ethtool code in the kernel passes a non-zero value for hfunc that ixgbe should allow. When ethtool is called with `ETHTOOL_SRXFHINDIR`, `ethtool_set_rxfh_indir` will call ixgbe's set_rxfh function with `ETH_RSS_HASH_NO_CHANGE`. This value should be accepted. When ethtool is called with `ETHTOOL_SRSSH`, `ethtool_set_rxfh` will call ixgbe's set_rxfh function with `rxfh.hfunc`, which appears to be hardcoded in ixgbe to always be `ETH_RSS_HASH_TOP`. This value should also be accepted. 2023-04-26e1000e: Disable TSO on i219-LM card to increase speedSebastian Basierski1-25/+26
[ Upstream commit 67d47b95119ad589b0a0b16b88b1dd9a04061ced ] While using i219-LM card currently it was only possible to achieve about 60% of maximum speed due to regression introduced in Linux 5.8. This was caused by TSO not being disabled by default despite commit f29801030ac6 ("e1000e: Disable TSO for buffer overrun workaround"). Fix that by disabling TSO during driver probe. Basically, the tagged commit effectively disabled passing flow hash from descriptor to skb, unless user *disables* it via Ethtool. Commit a876c3ba59a6 ("i40e/i40evf: properly report Rx packet hash") fixed this problem, but only for i40e. Invert the condition now in iavf and unblock passing hash to skbs again. 2022-12-14e1000e: Fix TX dispatch conditionAkihiko Odaki1-2/+2
[ Upstream commit eed913f6919e253f35d454b2f115f2a4db2b741a ] e1000_xmit_frame is expected to stop the queue and dispatch frames to hardware if there is not sufficient space for the next frame in the buffer, but sometimes it failed to do so because the estimated maximum size of frame was wrong. As the consequence, the later invocation of e1000_xmit_frame failed with NETDEV_TX_BUSY, and the frame in the buffer remained forever, resulting in a watchdog failure. This change fixes the estimated size by making it match with the condition for NETDEV_TX_BUSY. 2022-11-03i40e: Fix ethtool rx-flow-hash setting for X722Slawomir Laba2-8/+27
[ Upstream commit 54b5af5a438076082d482cab105b1bd484ab5074 ] When enabling flow type for RSS hash via ethtool: ethtool -N $pf rx-flow-hash tcp4|tcp6|udp4|udp6 s|d the driver would fail to setup this setting on X722 device since it was using the mask on the register dedicated for X710 devices. Apply a different mask on the register when setting the RSS hash for the X722 device. When displaying the flow types enabled via ethtool: ethtool -n $pf rx-flow-hash tcp4|tcp6|udp4|udp6 the driver would print wrong values for X722 device. Fix this issue by testing masks for X722 device in i40e_get_rss_hash_opts function. 2022-09-05ixgbe: stop resetting SYSTIME in ixgbe_ptp_start_cyclecounterJacob Keller1-13/+46
[ Upstream commit 25d7a5f5a6bb15a2dae0a3f39ea5dda215024726 ] The ixgbe_ptp_start_cyclecounter is intended to be called whenever the cyclecounter parameters need to be changed. Since commit a9763f3cb54c ("ixgbe: Update PTP to support X550EM_x devices"), this function has cleared the SYSTIME registers and reset the TSAUXC DISABLE_SYSTIME bit. While these need to be cleared during ixgbe_ptp_reset, it is wrong to clear them during ixgbe_ptp_start_cyclecounter. This function may be called during both reset and link status change. When link changes, the SYSTIME counter is still operating normally, but the cyclecounter should be updated to account for the possibly changed parameters. Clearing SYSTIME when link changes causes the timecounter to jump because the cycle counter now reads zero. Extract the SYSTIME initialization out to a new function and call this during ixgbe_ptp_reset. This prevents the timecounter adjustment and avoids an unnecessary reset of the current time. This also restores the original SYSTIME clearing that occurred during ixgbe_ptp_reset before the commit above. The commit c23d92b80e0b ("igb: Teardown SR-IOV before unregister_netdev()") places the unregister_netdev() call after the igb_disable_sriov() call to avoid functionality issue. However, it introduces several race conditions when detaching a device. For example, when .remove() is called, the below interleaving leads to use-after-free. 2022-08-25i40e: Fix to stop tx_timeout recovery if GLOBR failsAlan Brady1-1/+3
commit 57c942bc3bef0970f0b21f8e0998e76a900ea80d upstream. When a tx_timeout fires, the PF attempts to recover by incrementally resetting. First we try a PFR, then CORER and finally a GLOBR. If the GLOBR fails, then we keep hitting the tx_timeout and incrementing the recovery level and issuing dmesgs, which is both annoying to the user and accomplishes nothing. If the GLOBR fails, then we're pretty much totally hosed, and there's not much else we can do to recover, so this makes it such that we just kill the VSI and stop hitting the tx_timeout in such a case. 2022-07-02igb: Make DMA faster when CPU is active on the PCIe linkKai-Heng Feng1-7/+5
[ Upstream commit 4e0effd9007ea0be31f7488611eb3824b4541554 ] Intel I210 on some Intel Alder Lake platforms can only achieve ~750Mbps Tx speed via iperf. The RR2DCDELAY shows around 0x2xxx DMA delay, which will be significantly lower when 1) ASPM is disabled or 2) SoC package c-state stays above PC3. When the RR2DCDELAY is around 0x1xxx the Tx speed can reach to ~950Mbps. According to the I210 datasheet "8.26.1 PCIe Misc. Register - PCIEMISC", "DMA Idle Indication" doesn't seem to tie to DMA coalesce anymore, so set it to 1b for "DMA is considered idle when there is no Rx or Tx AND when there are no TLPs indicating that CPU is active detected on the PCIe link (such as the host executes CSR or Configuration register read or write operation)" and performing Tx should also fall under "active CPU on PCIe link" case. In addition to that, commit b6e0c419f040 ("igb: Move DMA Coalescing init code to separate function.") seems to wrongly changed from enabling E1000_PCIEMISC_LX_DECISION to disabling it, also fix that. [ Upstream commit fd5855e6b1358e816710afee68a1d2bc685176ca ] After PF reset and ethtool -t there was call trace in dmesg sometimes leading to panic. When there was some time, around 5 seconds, between reset and test there were no errors. Problem was that pf reset calls i40e_vsi_close in prep_for_reset and ethtool -t calls i40e_vsi_close in diag_test. If there was not enough time between those commands the second i40e_vsi_close starts before previous i40e_vsi_close was done which leads to crash. Add check to diag_test if pf is in reset and don't start offline tests if it is true. commit 7bb0fb7c63df95d6027dc50d6af3bc3bbbc25483 upstream. When the promiscuous mode is enabled on a VF, the IXGBE_VMOLR_VPE bit (VLAN Promiscuous Enable) is set. This means that the VF will receive packets whose VLAN is not the same than the VLAN of the VF. This behavior prevents to bridge VF1 and VF2 in VM2, because it will create a loop: packets transmitted on VF1 will be received by VF2 and vice-versa, and bridged again through the software bridge. This patch remove the activation of VLAN Promiscuous when a VF enables the promiscuous mode. However, the IXGBE_VMOLR_UPE bit (Unicast Promiscuous) is kept, so that a VF receives all packets that has the same VLAN, whatever the destination MAC address. 2022-06-14ixgbe: fix bcast packets Rx on VF after promisc removalOlivier Matz1-2/+2

This breaks some protocols like ARP. In ixgbe_update_vf_xcast_mode(), we should keep the IXGBE_VMOLR_BAM bit (Broadcast Accept) on promiscuous removal. This flag is already set by default in ixgbe_set_vmolr() on VF reset. [ Upstream commit 942d2ad5d2e0df758a645ddfadffde2795322728 ] igb_read_phy_reg() will silently return, leaving phy_data untouched, if hw->ops.read_reg isn't set. Depending on the uninitialized value of phy_data, this led to the phy status check either succeeding immediately or looping continuously for 2 seconds before emitting a noisy err-level timeout. This message went out to the console even though there was no actual problem. Instead, first check if there is read_reg function pointer. If not, proceed without trying to check the phy status register. commit e738451d78b2f8a9635d66c6a87f304b4d965f7a upstream. There was a wrong queues representation in sysfs during driver's reinitialization in case of online cpus number is less than combined queues. It was caused by stopped NetworkManager, which is responsible for calling vsi_open function during driver's initialization. In specific situation (ex. 12 cpus online) there were 16 queues in /sys/class/net/<iface>/queues. In case of modifying queues with value higher, than number of online cpus, then it caused write errors and other errors. Add updating of sysfs's queues representation during driver initialization. 2021-12-22ixgbe: set X550 MDIO speed before talking to PHYCyril Novikov1-0/+3
[ Upstream commit bf0a375055bd1afbbf02a0ef45f7655da7b71317 ] The MDIO bus speed must be initialized before talking to the PHY the first time in order to avoid talking to it using a speed that the PHY doesn't support. This fixes HW initialization error -17 (IXGBE_ERR_PHY_ADDR_INVALID) on Denverton CPUs (a.k.a. the Atom C3000 family) on ports with a 10Gb network plugged in. On those devices, HLREG0[MDCSPD] resets to 1, which combined with the 10Gb network results in a 24MHz MDIO speed, which is apparently too fast for the connected PHY. PHY register reads over MDIO bus return garbage, leading to initialization failure. Reproduced with Linux kernel 4.19 and 5.15-rc7.
