2023-06-20net: fec: allow to build without PAGE_POOL_STATSLucas Stach1-1/+1
Commit 6970ef27ff7f ("net: fec: add xdp and page pool statistics") selected CONFIG_PAGE_POOL_STATS from the FEC driver symbol, making it impossible to build without the page pool statistics when this driver is enabled. The help text of those statistics mentions increased overhead. Allow the user to choose between usefulness of the statistics and the added overhead. 2023-04-13net: ethernet: Add missing depends on MDIO_DEVRESAndrew Lunn1-0/+1
A number of MDIO drivers make use of devm_mdiobus_alloc_size(). This is only available when CONFIG_MDIO_DEVRES is enabled. Add missing depends or selects, depending on if there are circular dependencies or not. This avoids linker errors, especially for randconfig builds. 2022-10-03net: fec: using page pool to manage RX buffersShenwei Wang1-0/+1
This patch optimizes the RX buffer management by using the page pool. The purpose for this change is to prepare for the following XDP support. The current driver uses one frame per page for easy management. Added __maybe_unused attribute to the following functions to avoid the compiling warning. Those functions will be removed by a separate patch once this page pool solution is accepted. - fec_enet_new_rxbdp - fec_enet_copybreak The following are the comparing result between page pool 2021-08-14ethernet: fix PTP_1588_CLOCK dependenciesArnd Bergmann1-1/+1
The 'imply' keyword does not do what most people think it does, it only politely asks Kconfig to turn on another symbol, but does not prevent it from being disabled manually or built as a loadable module when the user is built-in. In the ICE driver, the latter now causes a link failure: aarch64-linux-ld: drivers/net/ethernet/intel/ice/ice_main.o: in function `ice_eth_ioctl': ice_main.c:(.text+0x13b0): undefined reference to `ice_ptp_get_ts_config' ice_main.c:(.text+0x13b0): relocation truncated to fit: R_AARCH64_CALL26 against undefined symbol `ice_ptp_get_ts_config' aarch64-linux-ld: ice_main.c:(.text+0x13bc): undefined reference to `ice_ptp_set_ts_config' ice_main.c:(.text+0x13bc): relocation truncated to fit: R_AARCH64_CALL26 against undefined symbol `ice_ptp_set_ts_config' aarch64-linux-ld: drivers/net/ethernet/intel/ice/ice_main.o: in function `ice_prepare_for_reset': ice_main.c:(.text+0x31fc): undefined reference to `ice_ptp_release' ice_main.c:(.text+0x31fc): relocation truncated to fit: R_AARCH64_CALL26 against undefined symbol `ice_ptp_release' aarch64-linux-ld: drivers/net/ethernet/intel/ice/ice_main.o: in function `ice_rebuild': This is a recurring problem in many drivers, and we have discussed it several times befores, without reaching a consensus. I'm providing a link to the previous email thread for reference, which discusses some related problems. To solve the dependency issue better than the 'imply' keyword, introduce a separate Kconfig symbol "CONFIG_PTP_1588_CLOCK_OPTIONAL" that any driver can depend on if it is able to use PTP support when available, but works fine without it. Whenever CONFIG_PTP_1588_CLOCK=m, those drivers are then prevented from being built-in, the same way as with a 'depends on PTP_1588_CLOCK || !PTP_1588_CLOCK' dependency that does the same trick, but that can be rather confusing when you first see it. Since this should cover the dependencies correctly, the IS_REACHABLE() hack in the header is no longer needed now, and can be turned back into a normal IS_ENABLED() check. Any driver that gets the dependency wrong will now cause a link time failure rather than being unable to use PTP support when that is in a loadable module. However, the two recently added ptp_get_vclocks_index() and ptp_convert_timestamp() interfaces are only called from builtin code with ethtool and socket timestamps, so keep the current behavior by stubbing those out completely when PTP is in a loadable module. This should be addressed properly in a follow-up. As Richard suggested, we may want to actually turn PTP support into a 'bool' option later on, preventing it from being a loadable module altogether, which would be one way to solve the problem with the ethtool interface. 2019-01-25enetc: Introduce basic PF and VF ENETC ethernet driversClaudiu Manoil1-0/+1
ENETC is a multi-port virtualized Ethernet controller supporting GbE designs and Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) functionality. ENETC is operating as an SR-IOV multi-PF capable Root Complex Integrated Endpoint (RCIE). As such, it contains multiple physical (PF) and virtual (VF) PCIe functions, discoverable by standard PCI Express. Introduce basic PF and VF ENETC ethernet drivers. The PF has access to the ENETC Port registers and resources and makes the required privileged configurations for the underlying VF devices. Common functionality is controlled through so called System Interface (SI) register blocks, PFs and VFs own a SI each. Though SI register blocks are almost identical, there are a few privileged SI level controls that are accessible only to PFs, and so the distinction is made between PF SIs (PSI) and VF SIs (VSI). As such, the bulk of the code, including datapath processing, basic h/w offload support and generic pci related configuration, is shared between the 2 drivers and is factored out in common source files (i.e. enetc.c). Major functionalities included (for both drivers): MSI-X support for Rx and Tx processing, assignment of Rx/Tx BD ring pairs to MSI-X entries, multi-queue support, Rx S/G (Rx frame fragmentation) and jumbo frame (up to 9600B) support, Rx paged allocation and reuse, Tx S/G support (NETIF_F_SG), Rx and Tx checksum offload, PF MAC filtering and initial control ring support, VLAN extraction/ insertion, PF Rx VLAN CTAG filtering, VF mac address config support, VF VLAN isolation support, etc. Signed-off-by: Claudiu Manoil <claudiu.manoil@nxp.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2016-11-18net: fsl: Allow most drivers to be built with COMPILE_TESTFlorian Fainelli1-1/+3
There are only a handful of Freescale Ethernet drivers that don't actually build with COMPILE_TEST: * FEC, for which we would need to define a default register layout if no supported architecture is defined * UCC_GETH which depends on PowerPC cpm.h header (which could be moved to a generic location) * GIANFAR needs to depend on HAS_DMA to fix linking failures on some architectures (like m32r) We need to fix an unmet dependency to get there though: warning: (FSL_XGMAC_MDIO) selects OF_MDIO which has unmet direct dependencies (OF && PHYLIB) which would result in CONFIG_OF_MDIO=[ym] without CONFIG_OF to be set. 2016-11-16ptp_clock: Allow for it to be optionalNicolas Pitre1-1/+1
In order to break the hard dependency between the PTP clock subsystem and ethernet drivers capable of being clock providers, this patch provides simple PTP stub functions to allow linkage of those drivers into the kernel even when the PTP subsystem is configured out. Drivers must be ready to accept NULL from ptp_clock_register() in that case. And to make it possible for PTP to be configured out, the select statement in those driver's Kconfig menu entries is converted to the new "imply" statement. This way the PTP subsystem may have Kconfig dependencies of its own, such as POSIX_TIMERS, without having to make those ethernet drivers unavailable if POSIX timers are cconfigured out. And when support for POSIX timers is selected again then the default config option for PTP clock support will automatically be adjusted accordingly. The pch_gbe driver is a bit special as it relies on extra code in drivers/ptp/ptp_pch.c. Therefore we let the make process descend into drivers/ptp/ even if PTP_1588_CLOCK is unselected. 2015-06-23drivers/net: remove all references to obsolete Ethernet-HOWTOPaul Gortmaker1-3/+1
This howto made sense in the 1990s when users had to manually configure ISA cards with jumpers or vendor utilities, but with the implementation of PCI it became increasingly less and less relevant, to the point where it has been well over a decade since I last updated it. And there is no value in anyone else taking over updating it either. However the references to it continue to spread as boiler plate text from one Kconfig file into the next. We are not doing end users any favours by pointing them at this old document, so lets kill it with fire, once and for all, to hopefully stop any further spread. 2012-01-03net: fsl: fec: fix build for mx23-only kernelWolfram Sang1-2/+2
If one only selects mx23-based boards, compile fails: drivers/net/ethernet/freescale/fec.c:410:2: error: 'FEC_HASH_TABLE_HIGH' undeclared (first use in this function) drivers/net/ethernet/freescale/fec.c:411:2: error: 'FEC_HASH_TABLE_LOW' undeclared (first use in this function) This is because fec.h uses CONFIG_SOC_IMX28 to determine the register layout of the core which makes sense since the MX23 does not have a fec. However, Kconfig uses the broader ARCH_MXS symbol and this way even makes the fec-driver default for MX23. Adapt Kconfig to use the more precise SOC_IMX28 as well.
