2023-12-13tg3: Increment tx_dropped in tg3_tso_bug()Alex Pakhunov1-1/+3
[ Upstream commit 17dd5efe5f36a96bd78012594fabe21efb01186b ] tg3_tso_bug() drops a packet if it cannot be segmented for any reason. The number of discarded frames should be incremented accordingly. 2023-11-20tg3: power down device only on SYSTEM_POWER_OFFGeorge Shuklin1-1/+2
[ Upstream commit 9fc3bc7643341dc5be7d269f3d3dbe441d8d7ac3 ] Dell R650xs servers hangs on reboot if tg3 driver calls tg3_power_down. This happens only if network adapters (BCM5720 for R650xs) were initialized using SNP (e.g. by booting ipxe.efi). The actual problem is on Dell side, but this fix allows servers to come back alive after reboot. 2023-09-23bnx2x: fix page fault following EEH recoveryDavid Christensen1-2/+7
[ Upstream commit 7ebe4eda4265642859507d1b3ca330d8c196cfe5 ] In the last step of the EEH recovery process, the EEH driver calls into bnx2x_io_resume() to re-initialize the NIC hardware via the function bnx2x_nic_load(). If an error occurs during bnx2x_nic_load(), OS and hardware resources are released and an error code is returned to the caller. When called from bnx2x_io_resume(), the return code is ignored and the network interface is brought up unconditionally. Later attempts to send a packet via this interface result in a page fault due to a null pointer reference. This patch checks the return code of bnx2x_nic_load(), prints an error message if necessary, and does not enable the interface. 2023-08-11treewide: Remove uninitialized_var() usageKees Cook1-2/+2
commit 3f649ab728cda8038259d8f14492fe400fbab911 upstream. Using uninitialized_var() is dangerous as it papers over real bugs[1] (or can in the future), and suppresses unrelated compiler warnings (e.g. "unused variable"). If the compiler thinks it is uninitialized, either simply initialize the variable or make compiler changes. In preparation for removing[2] the[3] macro[4], remove all remaining needless uses with the following script: git grep '\buninitialized_var\b' | cut -d: -f1 | sort -u | \ xargs perl -pi -e \ 's/\buninitialized_var\(([^\)]+)\)/\1/g; s:\s*/\* (GCC be quiet|to make compiler happy) \*/$::g;' drivers/video/fbdev/riva/riva_hw.c was manually tweaked to avoid pathological white-space. No outstanding warnings were found building allmodconfig with GCC 9.3.0 for x86_64, i386, arm64, arm, powerpc, powerpc64le, s390x, mips, sparc64, alpha, and m68k. 2023-06-14bnxt_en: Query default VLAN before VNIC setup on a VFSomnath Kotur1-0/+3
[ Upstream commit 1a9e4f501bc6ff1b6ecb60df54fbf2b54db43bfe ] We need to call bnxt_hwrm_func_qcfg() on a VF to query the default VLAN that may be setup by the PF. If a default VLAN is enabled, the VF cannot support VLAN acceleration on the receive side and the VNIC must be setup to strip out the default VLAN tag. If a default VLAN is not enabled, the VF can support VLAN acceleration on the receive side. The VNIC should be set up to strip or not strip the VLAN based on the RX VLAN acceleration setting. Without this call to determine the default VLAN before calling bnxt_setup_vnic(), the VNIC may not be set up correctly. For example, bnxt_setup_vnic() may set up to strip the VLAN tag based on stale default VLAN information. If RX VLAN acceleration is not enabled, the VLAN tag will be incorrectly stripped and the RX data path will not work correctly. commit d61615c366a489646a1bfe5b33455f916762d5f4 upstream. Code blocks handling BCMA_CHIP_ID_BCM5357 and BCMA_CHIP_ID_BCM53572 were incorrectly unified. Chip package values are not unique and cannot be checked independently. They are meaningful only in a context of a given chip. Packages BCM5358 and BCM47188 share the same value but then belong to different chips. Code unification resulted in treating BCM5358 as BCM47188 and broke its initialization. 2022-05-12net: bcmgenet: hide status block before TX timestampingJonathan Lemon1-0/+7
[ Upstream commit acac0541d1d65e81e599ec399d34d184d2424401 ] The hardware checksum offloading requires use of a transmit status block inserted before the outgoing frame data, this was updated in '9a9ba2a4aaaa ("net: bcmgenet: always enable status blocks")' However, skb_tx_timestamp() assumes that it is passed a raw frame and PTP parsing chokes on this status block. Fix this by calling __skb_pull(), which hides the TSB before calling skb_tx_timestamp(), so an outgoing PTP packet is parsed correctly. As the data in the skb has already been set up for DMA, and the dma_unmap_* calls use a separately stored address, there is no no effective change in the data transmission. 2022-04-20bnxt_en: Eliminate unintended link toggle during FW resetMichael Chan1-3/+1
[ Upstream commit 7c492a2530c1f05441da541307c2534230dfd59b ] If the flow control settings have been changed, a subsequent FW reset may cause the ethernet link to toggle unnecessarily. This link toggle will increase the down time by a few seconds. The problem is caused by bnxt_update_phy_setting() detecting a false mismatch in the flow control settings between the stored software settings and the current FW settings after the FW reset. This mismatch is caused by the AUTONEG bit added to link_info->req_flow_ctrl in an inconsistent way in bnxt_set_pauseparam() in autoneg mode. The AUTONEG bit should not be added to link_info->req_flow_ctrl. 2021-12-22net: systemport: Add global locking for descriptor lifecycleFlorian Fainelli2-0/+6
commit 8b8e6e782456f1ce02a7ae914bbd5b1053f0b034 upstream. The descriptor list is a shared resource across all of the transmit queues, and the locking mechanism used today only protects concurrency across a given transmit queue between the transmit and reclaiming. This creates an opportunity for the SYSTEMPORT hardware to work on corrupted descriptors if we have multiple producers at once which is the case when using multiple transmit queues. This was particularly noticeable when using multiple flows/transmit queues and it showed up in interesting ways in that UDP packets would get a correct UDP header checksum being calculated over an incorrect packet length. Similarly TCP packets would get an equally correct checksum computed by the hardware over an incorrect packet length. The SYSTEMPORT hardware maintains an internal descriptor list that it re-arranges when the driver produces a new descriptor anytime it writes to the WRITE_PORT_{HI,LO} registers, there is however some delay in the hardware to re-organize its descriptors and it is possible that concurrent TX queues eventually break this internal allocation scheme to the point where the length/status part of the descriptor gets used for an incorrect data buffer. The fix is to impose a global serialization for all TX queues in the short section where we are writing to the WRITE_PORT_{HI,LO} registers which solves the corruption even with multiple concurrent TX queues being used. 2021-10-06bnxt_en: Fix TX timeout when TX ring size is set to the smallestMichael Chan3-5/+10
[ Upstream commit 5bed8b0704c9ecccc8f4a2c377d7c8e21090a82e ] The smallest TX ring size we support must fit a TX SKB with MAX_SKB_FRAGS + 1. Because the first TX BD for a packet is always a long TX BD, we need an extra TX BD to fit this packet. Define BNXT_MIN_TX_DESC_CNT with this value to make this more clear. The current code uses a minimum that is off by 1. Fix it using this constant. The tx_wake_thresh to determine when to wake up the TX queue is half the ring size but we must have at least BNXT_MIN_TX_DESC_CNT for the next packet which may have maximum fragments. So the comparison of the available TX BDs with tx_wake_thresh should be >= instead of > in the current code. Otherwise, at the smallest ring size, we will never wake up the TX queue and will cause TX timeout. Fixes: c0c050c58d84 ("bnxt_en: New Broadcom ethernet driver.") [ Upstream commit 3c603136c9f82833813af77185618de5af67676c ] We can't take the tx lock from the napi poll routine, because netpoll can poll napi at any moment, including with the tx lock already held. The tx lock is protecting against two paths - the disable path, and (as Michael points out) the NETDEV_TX_BUSY case which may occur if NAPI completions race with start_xmit and both decide to re-enable the queue. For the disable/ifdown path use synchronize_net() to make sure closing the device does not race we restarting the queues. Annotate accesses to dev_state against data races. For the NAPI cleanup vs start_xmit path - appropriate barriers are already in place in the main spot where Tx queue is stopped but we need to do the same careful dance in the TX_BUSY case. 2020-09-09tg3: Fix soft lockup when tg3_reset_task() fails.Michael Chan1-4/+13
[ Upstream commit 556699341efa98243e08e34401b3f601da91f5a3 ] If tg3_reset_task() fails, the device state is left in an inconsistent state with IFF_RUNNING still set but NAPI state not enabled. A subsequent operation, such as ifdown or AER error can cause it to soft lock up when it tries to disable NAPI state. Fix it by bringing down the device to !IFF_RUNNING state when tg3_reset_task() fails. tg3_reset_task() running from workqueue will now call tg3_close() when the reset fails. We need to modify tg3_reset_task_cancel() slightly to avoid tg3_close() calling cancel_work_sync() to cancel tg3_reset_task(). Otherwise cancel_work_sync() will wait forever for tg3_reset_task() to finish.
