2022-05-12net: bcmgenet: hide status block before TX timestampingJonathan Lemon1-0/+7
[ Upstream commit acac0541d1d65e81e599ec399d34d184d2424401 ] The hardware checksum offloading requires use of a transmit status block inserted before the outgoing frame data, this was updated in '9a9ba2a4aaaa ("net: bcmgenet: always enable status blocks")' However, skb_tx_timestamp() assumes that it is passed a raw frame and PTP parsing chokes on this status block. Fix this by calling __skb_pull(), which hides the TSB before calling skb_tx_timestamp(), so an outgoing PTP packet is parsed correctly. As the data in the skb has already been set up for DMA, and the dma_unmap_* calls use a separately stored address, there is no no effective change in the data transmission. 2021-07-28net: bcmgenet: ensure EXT_ENERGY_DET_MASK is clearDoug Berger1-14/+2
commit 5a3c680aa2c12c90c44af383fe6882a39875ab81 upstream. Setting the EXT_ENERGY_DET_MASK bit allows the port energy detection logic of the internal PHY to prevent the system from sleeping. Some internal PHYs will report that energy is detected when the network interface is closed which can prevent the system from going to sleep if WoL is enabled when the interface is brought down. Since the driver does not support waking the system on this logic, this commit clears the bit whenever the internal PHY is powered up and the other logic for manipulating the bit is removed since it serves no useful function. 2020-06-30net: bcmgenet: use hardware padding of runt framesDoug Berger1-5/+3
[ Upstream commit 20d1f2d1b024f6be199a3bedf1578a1d21592bc5 ] When commit 474ea9cafc45 ("net: bcmgenet: correctly pad short packets") added the call to skb_padto() it should have been located before the nr_frags parameter was read since that value could be changed when padding packets with lengths between 55 and 59 bytes (inclusive). The use of a stale nr_frags value can cause corruption of the pad data when tx-scatter-gather is enabled. This corruption of the pad can cause invalid checksum computation when hardware offload of tx-checksum is also enabled. Since the original reason for the padding was corrected by commit 7dd399130efb ("net: bcmgenet: fix skb_len in bcmgenet_xmit_single()") we can remove the software padding all together and make use of hardware padding of short frames as long as the hardware also always appends the FCS value to the frame. This function is normally called by ndo_set_rx_mode when the flags are changed, but apparently not when the driver is suspended and resumed. This change ensures that address filtering or promiscuous mode are properly restored by the driver after the MAC may have been reset. 2020-05-10net: bcmgenet: suppress warnings on failed Rx SKB allocationsDoug Berger1-1/+2
[ Upstream commit ecaeceb8a8a145d93c7e136f170238229165348f ] The driver is designed to drop Rx packets and reclaim the buffers when an allocation fails, and the network interface needs to safely handle this packet loss. Therefore, an allocation failure of Rx SKBs is relatively benign. However, the output of the warning message occurs with a high scheduling priority that can cause excessive jitter/latency for other high priority processing. This commit suppresses the warning messages to prevent scheduling problems while retaining the failure count in the statistics of the network interface. 2019-12-05net: bcmgenet: reapply manual settings to the PHYDoug Berger1-1/+4
[ Upstream commit 0686bd9d5e6863f60e4bb1e78e6fe7bb217a0890 ] The phy_init_hw() function may reset the PHY to a configuration that does not match manual network settings stored in the phydev structure. If the phy state machine is polled rather than event driven this can create a timing hazard where the phy state machine might alter the settings stored in the phydev structure from the value read from the BMCR. This commit follows invocations of phy_init_hw() by the bcmgenet driver with invocations of the genphy_config_aneg() function to ensure that the BMCR is written to match the settings held in the phydev structure. This prevents the risk of manual settings being accidentally altered. 2019-11-10net: bcmgenet: reset 40nm EPHY on energy detectDoug Berger1-2/+7
[ Upstream commit 25382b991d252aed961cd434176240f9de6bb15f ] The EPHY integrated into the 40nm Set-Top Box devices can falsely detect energy when connected to a disabled peer interface. When the peer interface is enabled the EPHY will detect and report the link as active, but on occasion may get into a state where it is not able to exchange data with the connected GENET MAC. This issue has not been observed when the link parameters are auto-negotiated; however, it has been observed with a manually configured link. It has been empirically determined that issuing a soft reset to the EPHY when energy is detected prevents it from getting into this bad state. This will lead to the MAC dropping packets that are expected to pass. A better solution would be to set the NIC to promisc mode when the required filters cannot be met. The GENET driver currently uses __raw_{read,write}l which means native I/O endian. This works correctly for an ARM LE kernel (default) but fails miserably on an ARM BE (BE8) kernel where registers are kept little endian, so replace uses with {read,write}l_relaxed here which is what we want because this is all performance sensitive code. 2017-07-16net: bcmgenet: Free skb after last Tx fragDoug Berger1-60/+82
Since the skb is attached to the first control block of a fragmented skb it is possible that the skb could be freed when reclaiming that control block before all fragments of the skb have been consumed by the hardware and unmapped. This commit introduces first_cb and last_cb pointers to the skb control block used by the driver to keep track of which transmit control blocks within a transmit ring are the first and last ones associated with the skb. It then splits the bcmgenet_free_cb() function into transmit (bcmgenet_free_tx_cb) and receive (bcmgenet_free_rx_cb) versions that can handle the unmapping of dma mapped memory and cleaning up the corresponding control block structure so that the skb is only freed after the last associated transmit control block is reclaimed. In case we fail to map a single fragment, we would be leaving the transmit ring populated with stale entries. This commit introduces the helper function bcmgenet_put_txcb() which takes care of rewinding the per-ring write pointer back to where we left. It also consolidates the functionality of bcmgenet_xmit_single() and bcmgenet_xmit_frag() into the bcmgenet_xmit() function to make the unmapping of control blocks cleaner. __bcmgenet_tx_reclaim() is currently summing TX bytes/packets in a way that is not SMP friendly, mutliples CPUs could run __bcmgenet_tx_reclaim() independently and still update stats->tx_bytes and stats->tx_packets, cloberring the other CPUs statistics. Fix this by tracking per RX and TX rings the number of bytes, packets, dropped and errors statistics, and provide a bcmgenet_get_stats() function which aggregates everything and returns a consistent output. 2017-03-14net: bcmgenet: add support for the GENETv5 hardwareDoug Berger1-19/+72
This commit adds support for the GENETv5 implementation. The GENETv5 reports a major version of 6 instead of 5 so compensate for this when verifying the configuration of the driver. Also the EPHY revision is now contained in the MDIO registers of the PHY so the EPHY revision of 0 in GENET_VER_FMT is expected for GENETv5. The reclaim function should return the number of buffer descriptors reclaimed, not just the number corresponding to skb packets. Since the DMA interrupt status is latched and the DMA servicing can be polled, it is a good idea to clear the latched status of a DMA interrupt before performing the service that would be invoked by the interrupt. The bcmgenet_wol_isr() handler performs the necessary processing for waking from a GENET event. There is no necessary functionality behind servicing the UMAC_IRQ_MPD_R event in the handling of isr0. 2017-03-10net: bcmgenet: Power up the internal PHY before probing the MIIDoug Berger1-0/+8
When using the internal PHY it must be powered up when the MII is probed or the PHY will not be detected. Since the PHY is powered up at reset this has not been a problem. However, when the kernel is restarted with kexec the PHY will likely be powered down when the kernel starts so it will not be detected and the Ethernet link will not be established. This commit explicitly powers up the internal PHY when the GENET driver is probed to correct this behavior. Couple conflicts resolved here: 1) In the MACB driver, a bug fix to properly initialize the RX tail pointer properly overlapped with some changes to support variable sized rings. 2) In XGBE we had a "CONFIG_PM" --> "CONFIG_PM_SLEEP" fix overlapping with a reorganization of the driver to support ACPI, OF, as well as PCI variants of the chip. 3) In 'net' we had several probe error path bug fixes to the stmmac driver, meanwhile a lot of this code was cleaned up and reorganized in 'net-next'. 4) The cls_flower classifier obtained a helper function in 'net-next' called __fl_delete() and this overlapped with Daniel Borkamann's bug fix to use RCU for object destruction in 'net'. It also overlapped with Jiri's change to guard the rhashtable_remove_fast() call with a check against tc_skip_sw(). 5) In mlx4, a revert bug fix in 'net' overlapped with some unrelated changes in 'net-next'. 6) In geneve, a stale header pointer after pskb_expand_head() bug fix in 'net' overlapped with a large reorganization of the same code in 'net-next'. This was previously fixed by commit 5dbebbb44a6a ("net: bcmgenet: Software reset EPHY after power on") but the commit we are reverting was essentially making this previous commit void, here is why. Without commit 62469c76007e we would have the following scenario after an ifconfig down then up sequence: - bcmgenet_open() calls bcmgenet_power_up() to make sure the PHY is initialized *before* we get to initialize the UniMAC, this is critical to ensure the PHY is in a correct state, priv->phydev is valid, this code executes fine - second time from bcmgenet_mii_probe(), through the normal phy_init_hw() call (which arguably could be optimized out) Everything is fine in that case.
