2021-08-04can: mcba_usb_start(): add missing urb->transfer_dma initializationPavel Skripkin1-0/+2
commit fc43fb69a7af92839551f99c1a96a37b77b3ae7a upstream. Yasushi reported, that his Microchip CAN Analyzer stopped working since commit 91c02557174b ("can: mcba_usb: fix memory leak in mcba_usb"). The problem was in missing urb->transfer_dma initialization. In my previous patch to this driver I refactored mcba_usb_start() code to avoid leaking usb coherent buffers. To archive it, I passed local stack variable to usb_alloc_coherent() and then saved it to private array to correctly free all coherent buffers on ->close() call. But I forgot to initialize urb->transfer_dma with variable passed to usb_alloc_coherent(). All of this was causing device to not work, since dma addr 0 is not valid and following log can be found on bug report page, which points exactly to problem described above. | DMAR: [DMA Write] Request device [00:14.0] PASID ffffffff fault addr 0 [fault reason 05] PTE Write access is not set Fixes: 91c02557174b ("can: mcba_usb: fix memory leak in mcba_usb") Link: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=990850 Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20210725103630.23864-1-paskripkin@gmail.com Cc: linux-stable <stable@vger.kernel.org> Reported-by: Yasushi SHOJI <yasushi.shoji@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Pavel Skripkin <paskripkin@gmail.com> Tested-by: Yasushi SHOJI <yashi@spacecubics.com> [mkl: fixed typos in commit message - thanks Yasushi SHOJI] Signed-off-by: Marc Kleine-Budde <mkl@pengutronix.de> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>
2021-06-30can: mcba_usb: fix memory leak in mcba_usbPavel Skripkin1-2/+15
commit 91c02557174be7f72e46ed7311e3bea1939840b0 upstream. Syzbot reported memory leak in SocketCAN driver for Microchip CAN BUS Analyzer Tool. The problem was in unfreed usb_coherent. In mcba_usb_start() 20 coherent buffers are allocated and there is nothing, that frees them: 1) In callback function the urb is resubmitted and that's all 2) In disconnect function urbs are simply killed, but URB_FREE_BUFFER is not set (see mcba_usb_start) and this flag cannot be used with coherent buffers. Fail log: | [ 1354.053291][ T8413] mcba_usb 1-1:0.0 can0: device disconnected | [ 1367.059384][ T8420] kmemleak: 20 new suspected memory leaks (see /sys/kernel/debug/kmem) So, all allocated buffers should be freed with usb_free_coherent() explicitly NOTE: The same pattern for allocating and freeing coherent buffers is used in drivers/net/can/usb/kvaser_usb/kvaser_usb_core.c Fixes: 51f3baad7de9 ("can: mcba_usb: Add support for Microchip CAN BUS Analyzer") Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20210609215833.30393-1-paskripkin@gmail.com Cc: linux-stable <stable@vger.kernel.org> Reported-and-tested-by: syzbot+57281c762a3922e14dfe@syzkaller.appspotmail.com Signed-off-by: Pavel Skripkin <paskripkin@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Marc Kleine-Budde <mkl@pengutronix.de> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>
2020-11-24can: mcba_usb: mcba_usb_start_xmit(): first fill skb, then pass to ↵Marc Kleine-Budde1-2/+2
can_put_echo_skb() [ Upstream commit 81c9c8e0adef3285336b942f93287c554c89e6c6 ] The driver has to first fill the skb with data and then handle it to can_put_echo_skb(). This patch moves the can_put_echo_skb() down, right before sending the skb out via USB. 2017-12-08can: mcba_usb: cancel urb on -EPROTOMartin Kelly1-0/+1
When we unplug the device, we can see both -EPIPE and -EPROTO depending on exact timing and what system we run on. If we continue to resubmit URBs, they will immediately fail, and they can cause stalls, especially on slower CPUs. Fix this by not resubmitting on -EPROTO, as we already do on -EPIPE. 2017-12-01can: mcba_usb: fix device disconnect bugMartin Kelly1-0/+1
Currently, when you disconnect the device, the driver infinitely resubmits all URBs, so you see: Rx URB aborted (-32) in an infinite loop. Fix this by catching -EPIPE (what we get in urb->status when the device disconnects) and not resubmitting. With this patch, I can plug and unplug many times and the driver recovers correctly.
