Any write with either dd or flashcp to a device driven by the
spear_smi.c driver will pass through the spear_smi_cpy_toio()
function. This function will get called for chunks of up to 256 bytes.
If the amount of data is smaller, we may have a problem if the data
length is not 4-byte aligned. In this situation, the kernel panics
during the memcpy:

PC is at memcpy+0xcc/0x330
The above error occurs because the implementation of memcpy_toio()
tries to optimize the number of I/O by writing 4 bytes at a time as
much as possible, until there are less than 4 bytes left and then
switches to word or byte writes.
Unfortunately, the specification states about the Write Burst mode:
"the next AHB Write request should point to the next
incremented address and should have the same size (byte,
half-word or word)"
This means ARM architecture implementation of memcpy_toio() cannot
reliably be used blindly here. Workaround this situation by update the
write path to stick to byte access when the burst length is not
multiple of 4.

add_mtd_device() can fail. We should always check its return value
and gracefully handle the failure case. Fix the call sites where this
not done (in mtdpart.c) and add a __must_check attribute to the
prototype to avoid this kind of mistakes.

The opcodes used by the controller when doing batched page prog should
be written in NFC_REG_WCMD_SET not FC_REG_RCMD_SET. Luckily, the
default NFC_REG_WCMD_SET value matches the one we set in the driver
which explains why we didn't notice the problem.

The UBI device reference is dropped but then the device is used as a
parameter of ubi_err. The bug is introduced in changing ubi_err's
behavior. The old ubi_err does not require a UBI device as its first
parameter, but the new one does.

As reported by the OpenWRT team, write requests sometimes fail on some
platforms.
Currently to check the state chip_ready() is used correctly as described by
the flash memory S29GL256P11TFI01 datasheet.
Also chip_good() is used to check if the write is succeeded and it was
implemented by the commit fb4a90bfcd6d8 ("[MTD] CFI-0002 - Improve error
checking").
But actually the write failure is caused on some platforms and also it can
be fixed by using chip_good() to check the state and retry instead.
Also it seems that it is caused after repeated about 1,000 times to retry
the write one word with the reset command.
By using chip_good() to check the state to be done it can be reduced the
retry with reset.
It is depended on the actual flash chip behavior so the root cause is
unknown.

One main goal of the function mtk_nfc_update_ecc_stats is to check
whether sectors are all empty. If they are empty, set these sectors's
data buffer and OOB buffer as 0xff.
But now, the sector OOB buffer pointer is wrongly assigned. We always
do memset from sector 0.
To fix this issue, pass start sector number to make OOB buffer pointer
be properly assigned.

Disable BCH soft reset according to MX23 erratum #2847 ("BCH soft
reset may cause bus master lock up") for MX28 too. It has the same
problem.
Observed problem: once per 100,000+ MX28 reboots NAND read failed on
DMA timeout errors:

Without BCH soft reset we successfully executed 1,000,000 MX28 reboots.
I have a quote from NXP regarding this problem, from July 18th 2016:
"As the i.MX23 and i.MX28 are of the same generation, they share many
characteristics. Unfortunately, also the erratas may be shared.
In case of the documented erratas and the workarounds, you can also
apply the workaround solution of one device on the other one. This have
been reported, but I’m afraid that there are not an estimated date for
updating the Errata documents.
Please accept our apologies for any inconveniences this may cause."

I ran into a link-time error with the atmel-quadspi driver on the
EBSA110 platform:
drivers/mtd/built-in.o: In function `atmel_qspi_run_command':
:(.text+0x1ee3c): undefined reference to `_memcpy_toio'
:(.text+0x1ee48): undefined reference to `_memcpy_fromio'
The problem is that _memcpy_toio/_memcpy_fromio are not available on
that platform, and we have to prevent building the driver there.
In case we want to backport this to older kernels: between linux-4.8
and linux-4.20, the Kconfig entry was in drivers/mtd/spi-nor/Kconfig
but had the same problem.

I noticed during the creation of another bugfix that the BCH_CONST_PARAMS
option that is set by DOCG3 breaks setting variable parameters for any
other users of the BCH library code.
The only other user we have today is the MTD_NAND software BCH
implementation (most flash controllers use hardware BCH these days
and are not affected). I considered removing BCH_CONST_PARAMS entirely
because of the inherent conflict, but according to the description in
lib/bch.c there is a significant performance benefit in keeping it.
To avoid the immediate problem of the conflict between MTD_NAND_BCH
and DOCG3, this only sets the constant parameters if MTD_NAND_BCH
is disabled, which should fix the problem for all cases that
are affected. This should also work for all stable kernels.
Note that there is only one machine that actually seems to use the
DOCG3 driver (arch/arm/mach-pxa/mioa701.c), so most users should have
the driver disabled, but it almost certainly shows up if we wanted
to test random kernels on machines that use software BCH in MTD.

The first checks in mtdchar_read() and mtdchar_write() attempt to limit
`count` such that `*ppos + count <= mtd->size`. However, they ignore the
possibility of `*ppos > mtd->size`, allowing the calculation of `count` to
wrap around. `mtdchar_lseek()` prevents seeking beyond mtd->size, but the
pread/pwrite syscalls bypass this.
I haven't found any codepath on which this actually causes dangerous
behavior, but it seems like a sensible change anyway.

But the chip ready is not enough to check the operation status.
So change this to check the chip good instead of this.

For the word write functions it is retried for error.
But it is not implemented to retry for the erase functions.
To make sure for the erase functions change to retry as same.
This is needed to prevent the flash erase error caused only once.
It was caused by the error case of chip_good() in the do_erase_oneblock().
Also it was confirmed on the MACRONIX flash device MX29GL512FHT2I-11G.
But the error issue behavior is not able to reproduce at this moment.
The flash controller is parallel Flash interface integrated on BCM53003.

Register (SPAS) at offset 0x10. Its setting defaults to the maximum
spare area size of 218 bytes. The size that is set in this register is
used by the controller when it calculates the ECC bytes internally in
hardware.
Usually, this register is updated from settings in the IIM fuses when
the system is booting from NAND flash. For other boot media, however,
the SPAS register remains at the default setting, which may not work for
the particular flash chip on the board. The same goes for flash chips
whose configuration cannot be set in the IIM fuses (e.g. chips with 2k
sector size and 128 bytes spare area size can't be configured in the IIM
fuses on imx25 systems).
Set the SPAS register explicitly during the preset operation. Derive the
register value from mtd->oobsize that was detected during probe by
decoding the flash chip's ID bytes.
While at it, rename the define for the spare area register's offset to
NFC_V21_RSLTSPARE_AREA. The register at offset 0x10 on v1 controllers is
different from the register on v21 controllers.

Fastmap cannot track the LEB unmap operation, therefore it can
happen that after an interrupted erasure the mapping still looks
good from Fastmap's point of view, while reading from the PEB will
cause an ECC error and confuses the upper layer.
Instead of teaching users of UBI how to deal with that, we read back
the VID header and check for errors. If the PEB is empty or shows ECC
errors we fixup the mapping and schedule the PEB for erasure.

Ben Hutchings pointed out that 29b7a6fa1ec0 ("ubi: fastmap: Don't flush
fastmap work on detach") does not really fix the problem, it just
reduces the risk to hit the race window where fastmap work races against
free()'ing ubi->volumes[].
The correct approach is making sure that no more fastmap work is in
progress before we free ubi data structures.
So we cancel fastmap work right after the ubi background thread is
stopped.
By setting ubi->thread_enabled to zero we make sure that no further work
tries to wake the thread.

The "sector is in requested range" test used to determine whether
sectors should be re-locked or not is done on a variable that is reset
everytime we cross a chip boundary, which can lead to some blocks being
re-locked while the caller expect them to be unlocked.
Fix the check to make sure this cannot happen.

cfi_ppb_unlock() tries to relock all sectors that were locked before
unlocking the whole chip.
This locking used the chip start address + the FULL offset from the
first flash chip, thereby forming an illegal address. Fix that by using
the chip offset(adr).

For the word write it is checked if the chip has the correct value.
But it is not checked for the write buffer as only checked if ready.
To make sure for the write buffer change to check the value.
It is enough as this patch is only checking the last written word.
Since it is described by data sheets to check the operation status.

When opening a device with write access, ubiblock_open returns an error
code. Currently, this error code is -EPERM, but this is not the right
value.
The open function for other block devices returns -EROFS when opening
read-only devices with FMODE_WRITE set. When used with dm-verity, the
veritysetup userspace tool is expecting EROFS, and refuses to use the
ubiblock device.
Use -EROFS for ubiblock as well. As a result, veritysetup accepts the
ubiblock device as valid.

Reads from NAND devices usually trigger bitflips, this is an expected
behavior. While bitflips are under a given threshold, the MTD core
returns 0. However, when the number of corrected bitflips is above this
same threshold, -EUCLEAN is returned to inform the upper layer that this
block is slightly dying and soon the ECC engine will be overtaken so
actions should be taken to move the data out of it.
This particular condition should not be treated like an error and the
test should continue.

Drivers are supposed to set correct ecc->{size,strength,bytes} before
calling nand_scan_tail(), but it does not complain about ecc->total
bigger than oobsize.
In this case, chip->scan_bbt() crashes due to memory corruption, but
it is hard to debug. It would be kind to fail it earlier with a clear
message.

The GPMI driver is wrongly assuming that nand_release() can safely be
called on an uninitialized/unregistered NAND device.
Add a new err_nand_cleanup label in the error path and only execute if
nand_scan_tail() succeeded.
Note that we now call nand_cleanup() instead of nand_release()
(nand_release() is actually grouping the mtd_device_unregister() and
nand_cleanup() in one call) because there's no point in trying to
unregister a device that has never been registered.

Booting with UBI fastmap and SLUB debugging enabled results in the
following splats. The problem is that ubi_scan_fastmap() moves the
fastmap blocks from the scan_ai (allocated in scan_fast()) to the ai
allocated in ubi_attach(). This results in two problems:
- When the scan_ai is freed, aebs which were allocated from its slab
cache are still in use.
- When the other ai is being destroyed in destroy_ai(), the
arguments to kmem_cache_free() call are incorrect since aebs on its
->fastmap list were allocated with a slab cache from a differnt ai.
Fix this by making a copy of the aebs in ubi_scan_fastmap() instead of
moving them.

Fix this by breaking the loop with a return 0 if
the offset exceeds the map size.

Due to missing information in Hardware manual, current
implementation doesn't read ECCSTAT0 and ECCSTAT1 registers
for IFC 2.0.
Add support to read ECCSTAT0 and ECCSTAT1 registers during
ecccheck for IFC 2.0.

Number of ECC status registers i.e. (ECCSTATx) has been increased in IFC
version 2.0.0 due to increase in SRAM size. This is causing eccstat
array to over flow.
So, replace eccstat array with u32 variable to make it fail-safe and
independent of number of ECC status registers or SRAM size.

As per the IFC hardware manual, Most significant 2 bytes in
nand_fsr register are the outcome of NAND READ STATUS command.
So status value need to be shifted and aligned as per the nand
framework requirement.

Section was not properly computed. The value of OOB region definition is
always ECC section 0 information in the OOB area, but we want to get all
the ECC bytes information, so we should call
mtd_ooblayout_ecc(mtd, section++, &oobregion) until it returns -ERANGE.

Bufnum mask is used to calculate page position in the internal SRAM.
As IFC version 2.0.0 has 16KB of internal SRAM as compared to older
versions which had 8KB. Hence bufnum mask needs to be updated.

Some drivers (like nand_hynix.c) call ->cmdfunc() with NAND_CMD_NONE
and a column address and expect the controller to only send address
cycles. Right now, the default ->cmdfunc() implementations provided by
the core do not filter out the command cycle in this case and forwards
the request to the controller driver through the ->cmd_ctrl() method.
The thing is, NAND controller drivers can get this wrong and send a
command cycle with a NAND_CMD_NONE opcode and since NAND_CMD_NONE is
-1, and the command field is usually casted to an u8, we end up sending
the 0xFF command which is actually a RESET operation.
Add conditions in nand_command[_lp]() functions to sending the initial
command cycle when command == NAND_CMD_NONE.
