With all callbacks converted, and the timer callback prototype switched over, the TIMER_FUNC_TYPE cast is no longer needed, so remove it. Conversion was done with the following scripts: perl -pi -e 's|\(TIMER_FUNC_TYPE\)||g' \ $(git grep TIMER_FUNC_TYPE | cut -d: -f1 | sort -u) perl -pi -e 's|\(TIMER_DATA_TYPE\)||g' \ $(git grep TIMER_DATA_TYPE | cut -d: -f1 | sort -u) The now unused macros are also dropped from include/linux/timer.h. This converts all remaining cases of the old setup_timer() API into using timer_setup(), where the callback argument is the structure already holding the struct timer_list. These should have no behavioral changes, since they just change which pointer is passed into the callback with the same available pointers after conversion. It handles the following examples, in addition to some other variations. Casting from unsigned long: void my_callback(unsigned long data) { struct something *ptr = (struct something *)data; ... } ... setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, ptr); and forced object casts: void my_callback(struct something *ptr) { ... } ... setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, (unsigned long)ptr); become: void my_callback(struct timer_list *t) { struct something *ptr = from_timer(ptr, t, my_timer); ... } ... timer_setup(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0); Direct function assignments: void my_callback(unsigned long data) { struct something *ptr = (struct something *)data; ... } ... ptr->my_timer.function = my_callback; have a temporary cast added, along with converting the args: void my_callback(struct timer_list *t) { struct something *ptr = from_timer(ptr, t, my_timer); ... } ... ptr->my_timer.function = (TIMER_FUNC_TYPE)my_callback; And finally, callbacks without a data assignment: void my_callback(unsigned long data) { ... } ... setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0); have their argument renamed to verify they're unused during conversion: void my_callback(struct timer_list *unused) { ... } ... timer_setup(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0); The conversion is done with the following Coccinelle script: spatch --very-quiet --all-includes --include-headers \ -I ./arch/x86/include -I ./arch/x86/include/generated \ -I ./include -I ./arch/x86/include/uapi \ -I ./arch/x86/include/generated/uapi -I ./include/uapi \ -I ./include/generated/uapi --include ./include/linux/kconfig.h \ --dir . \ --cocci-file ~/src/data/timer_setup.cocci @fix_address_of@ expression e; This mechanically converts all remaining cases of ancient open-coded timer setup with the old setup_timer() API, which is the first step in timer conversions. This has no behavioral changes, since it ultimately just changes the order of assignment to fields of struct timer_list when finding variations of: init_timer(&t); f.function = timer_callback; t.data = timer_callback_arg; to be converted into: setup_timer(&t, timer_callback, timer_callback_arg); The conversion is done with the following Coccinelle script, which is an improved version of scripts/cocci/api/setup_timer.cocci, in the following ways: - assignments-before-init_timer() cases - limit the .data case removal to the specific struct timer_list instance - handling calls by dereference (timer->field vs timer.field) spatch --very-quiet --all-includes --include-headers \ -I ./arch/x86/include -I ./arch/x86/include/generated \ -I ./include -I ./arch/x86/include/uapi \ -I ./arch/x86/include/generated/uapi -I ./include/uapi \ -I ./include/generated/uapi --include ./include/linux/kconfig.h \ --dir . \ --cocci-file ~/src/data/setup_timer.cocci @fix_address_of@ expression e; @@ init_timer( -&(e) +&e , ...) // Match the common cases first to avoid Coccinelle parsing loops with // "... when" clauses. @match_immediate_function_data_after_init_timer@ expression e, func, da; @@ -init_timer +setup_timer ( \(&e\|e\) +, func, da ); ( -\(e.function\|e->function\) = func; -\(e.data\|e->data\) = da; | -\(e.data\|e->data\) = da; -\(e.function\|e->function\) = func; ) @match_immediate_function_data_before_init_timer@ expression e, func, da; @@ ( -\(e.function\|e->function\) = func; -\(e.data\|e->data\) = da; | -\(e.data\|e->data\) = da; -\(e.function\|e->function\) = func; ) -init_timer +setup_timer ( \(&e\|e\) +, func, da ); @match_function_and_data_after_init_timer@ expression e, e2, e3, e4, e5, func, da; @@ -init_timer +setup_timer ( \(&e\|e\) +, func, da ); ... when != func = e2 when != da = e3 ( -e.function = func; ... when != da = e4 -e.data = da; | -e->function = func; ... when != da = e4 -e->data = da; | -e.data = da; ... when != func = e5 -e.function = func; | -e->data = da; ... when != func = e5 -e->function = func; ) @match_function_and_data_before_init_timer@ expression e, e2, e3, e4, e5, func, da; @@ ( -e.function = func; ... when != da = e4 -e.data = da; | -e->function = func; ... when != da = e4 -e->data = da; | -e.data = da; ... when != func = e5 -e.function = func; | -e->data = da; ... when != func = e5 -e->function = func; ) ... when != func = e2 when != da = e3 -init_timer +setup_timer ( \(&e\|e\) +, func, da ); @r1 exists@ expression t; identifier f; position p; @@ f(...) { ... when any init_timer@p(\(&t\|t\)) ... when any } @r2 exists@ expression r1.t; identifier g != r1.f; expression e8; @@ g(...) { ... when any \(t.data\|t->data\) = e8 ... when any } // It is dangerous to use setup_timer if data field is initialized // in another function. @script:python depends on r2@ p << r1.p; @@ cocci.include_match(False) @r3@ expression r1.t, func, e7; position r1.p; @@ ( -init_timer@p(&t); +setup_timer(&t, func, 0UL); ... when != func = e7 -t.function = func; | -t.function = func; ... when != func = e7 -init_timer@p(&t); +setup_timer(&t, func, 0UL); | -init_timer@p(t); +setup_timer(t, func, 0UL); ... when != func = e7 -t->function = func; | -t->function = func; ... when != func = e7 -init_timer@p(t); +setup_timer(t, func, 0UL); ) Signed-off-by: Kees Cook <keescook@chromium.org>

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/dhowells/linux-fs Pull AFS updates from David Howells: "kAFS filesystem driver overhaul. The major points of the overhaul are: (1) Preliminary groundwork is laid for supporting network-namespacing of kAFS. The remainder of the namespacing work requires some way to pass namespace information to submounts triggered by an automount. This requires something like the mount overhaul that's in progress. (2) sockaddr_rxrpc is used in preference to in_addr for holding addresses internally and add support for talking to the YFS VL server. With this, kAFS can do everything over IPv6 as well as IPv4 if it's talking to servers that support it. (3) Callback handling is overhauled to be generally passive rather than active. 'Callbacks' are promises by the server to tell us about data and metadata changes. Callbacks are now checked when we next touch an inode rather than actively going and looking for it where possible. (4) File access permit caching is overhauled to store the caching information per-inode rather than per-directory, shared over subordinate files. Whilst older AFS servers only allow ACLs on directories (shared to the files in that directory), newer AFS servers break that restriction. To improve memory usage and to make it easier to do mass-key removal, permit combinations are cached and shared. (5) Cell database management is overhauled to allow lighter locks to be used and to make cell records autonomous state machines that look after getting their own DNS records and cleaning themselves up, in particular preventing races in acquiring and relinquishing the fscache token for the cell. (6) Volume caching is overhauled. The afs_vlocation record is got rid of to simplify things and the superblock is now keyed on the cell and the numeric volume ID only. The volume record is tied to a superblock and normal superblock management is used to mediate the lifetime of the volume fscache token. (7) File server record caching is overhauled to make server records independent of cells and volumes. A server can be in multiple cells (in such a case, the administrator must make sure that the VL services for all cells correctly reflect the volumes shared between those cells). Server records are now indexed using the UUID of the server rather than the address since a server can have multiple addresses. (8) File server rotation is overhauled to handle VMOVED, VBUSY (and similar), VOFFLINE and VNOVOL indications and to handle rotation both of servers and addresses of those servers. The rotation will also wait and retry if the server says it is busy. (9) Data writeback is overhauled. Each inode no longer stores a list of modified sections tagged with the key that authorised it in favour of noting the modified region of a page in page->private and storing a list of keys that made modifications in the inode. This simplifies things and allows other keys to be used to actually write to the server if a key that made a modification becomes useless. (10) Writable mmap() is implemented. This allows a kernel to be build entirely on AFS. Note that Pre AFS-3.4 servers are no longer supported, though this can be added back if necessary (AFS-3.4 was released in 1998)" * tag 'afs-next-20171113' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/dhowells/linux-fs: (35 commits) afs: Protect call->state changes against signals afs: Trace page dirty/clean afs: Implement shared-writeable mmap afs: Get rid of the afs_writeback record afs: Introduce a file-private data record afs: Use a dynamic port if 7001 is in use afs: Fix directory read/modify race afs: Trace the sending of pages afs: Trace the initiation and completion of client calls afs: Fix documentation on # vs % prefix in mount source specification afs: Fix total-length calculation for multiple-page send afs: Only progress call state at end of Tx phase from rxrpc callback afs: Make use of the YFS service upgrade to fully support IPv6 afs: Overhaul volume and server record caching and fileserver rotation afs: Move server rotation code into its own file afs: Add an address list concept afs: Overhaul cell database management afs: Overhaul permit caching afs: Overhaul the callback handling afs: Rename struct afs_call server member to cm_server ...

2017-11-15media: rc: sir_ir: detect presence of portSean Young1-4/+36
Without this test, sir_ir clumsy claims resources for a device which does not exist. The 0-day kernel test robot reports the following errors (in a loop): sir_ir sir_ir.0: Trapped in interrupt genirq: Flags mismatch irq 4. 00000000 (ttyS0) vs. 00000000 (sir_ir) When sir_ir is loaded with the default io and irq, the following happens: - sir_ir claims irq 4 - user space opens /dev/ttyS0 - in serial8250_do_startup(), some setup is done for ttyS0, which causes irq 4 to fire (in THRE test) - sir_ir does not realise it was not for it, and spins until the "trapped in interrupt" - now serial driver calls setup_irq() and fails and we get the "Flags mismatch" error. There is no port present at 0x3e8 so simply check for the presence of a port, as suggested by Linus. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip Pull timer updates from Thomas Gleixner: "Yet another big pile of changes: - More year 2038 work from Arnd slowly reaching the point where we need to think about the syscalls themself. - A new timer function which allows to conditionally (re)arm a timer only when it's either not running or the new expiry time is sooner than the armed expiry time. This allows to use a single timer for multiple timeout requirements w/o caring about the first expiry time at the call site. - A new NMI safe accessor to clock real time for the printk timestamp work. Can be used by tracing, perf as well if required. - A large number of timer setup conversions from Kees which got collected here because either maintainers requested so or they simply got ignored. As Kees pointed out already there are a few trivial merge conflicts and some redundant commits which was unavoidable due to the size of this conversion effort. - Avoid a redundant iteration in the timer wheel softirq processing. - Provide a mechanism to treat RTC implementations depending on their hardware properties, i.e. don't inflict the write at the 0.5 seconds boundary which originates from the PC CMOS RTC to all RTCs. No functional change as drivers need to be updated separately. - The usual small updates to core code clocksource drivers. 2017-11-13Pass mode to wait_on_atomic_t() action funcs and provide default actionsDavid Howells1-7/+1
Make wait_on_atomic_t() pass the TASK_* mode onto its action function as an extra argument and make it 'unsigned int throughout. Also, consolidate a bunch of identical action functions into a default function that can do the appropriate thing for the mode. Also, change the argument name in the bit_wait*() function declarations to reflect the fact that it's the mode and not the bit number. [Peter Z gives this a grudging ACK, but thinks that the whole atomic_t wait should be done differently, though he's not immediately sure as to how] Signed-off-by: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com> Acked-by: Peter Zijlstra <peterz@infradead.org> cc: Ingo Molnar <mingo@kernel.org>
