2022-01-27media: si2157: Fix "warm" tuner state detectionRobert Schlabbach1-1/+1
[ Upstream commit a6441ea29cb2c9314654e093a1cd8020b9b851c8 ] Commit e955f959ac52 ("media: si2157: Better check for running tuner in init") completely broke the "warm" tuner detection of the si2157 driver due to a simple endian error: The Si2157 CRYSTAL_TRIM property code is 0x0402 and needs to be transmitted LSB first. However, it was inserted MSB first, causing the warm detection to always fail and spam the kernel log with tuner initialization messages each time the DVB frontend device was closed and reopened: [ 312.215682] si2157 16-0060: found a 'Silicon Labs Si2157-A30' [ 312.264334] si2157 16-0060: firmware version: 3.0.5 [ 342.248593] si2157 16-0060: found a 'Silicon Labs Si2157-A30' [ 342.295743] si2157 16-0060: firmware version: 3.0.5 [ 372.328574] si2157 16-0060: found a 'Silicon Labs Si2157-A30' [ 372.385035] si2157 16-0060: firmware version: 3.0.5 Also, the reinitializations were observed disturb _other_ tuners on multi-tuner cards such as the Hauppauge WinTV-QuadHD, leading to missed or errored packets when one of the other DVB frontend devices on that card was opened. Fix the order of the property code bytes to make the warm detection work again, also reducing the tuner initialization message in the kernel log to once per power-on, as well as fixing the interference with other tuners. [ Upstream commit 505bfc2a142f12ce7bc7a878b44abc3496f2e747 ] clang static analysis reports this problem tuner-simple.c:714:13: warning: Assigned value is garbage or undefined buffer[1] = buffer[3]; ^ ~~~~~~~~~ In simple_set_radio_freq buffer[3] used to be done in-function with a switch of tuner type, now done by a call to simple_radio_bandswitch which has this case case TUNER_TENA_9533_DI: case TUNER_YMEC_TVF_5533MF: tuner_dbg("This tuner doesn't ... return 0; which does not set buffer[3]. In the old logic, this case would have returned 0 from simple_set_radio_freq. Recover this old behavior by returning an error for this codition. Since the old simple_set_radio_freq behavior returned a 0, do the same. 2019-08-19media: Clarify how menus are hidden by SUBDRV_AUTOSELECTEzequiel Garcia1-1/+5
Some users have been having a hard time finding the hidden menus. A typically case are camera sensor drivers (e.g IMX219, OV5645, etc), which are common on embedded platforms and not really "ancillary" devices. The problem with MEDIA_SUBDRV_AUTOSELECT seems to be related to the fact that it uses the "visible" syntax to hide the menus. This is not obvious and it normally takes some time to figure out. To fix the problem, add a comment on each of hidden menus, which should clarify what option is causing menus to be hidden. 2019-08-14media: media/tuners: Use kmemdup rather than duplicating its implementationFuqian Huang2-4/+2
kmemdup is introduced to duplicate a region of memory in a neat way. Rather than kmalloc/kzalloc + memcpy, which the programmer needs to write the size twice (sometimes lead to mistakes), kmemdup improves readability, leads to smaller code and also reduce the chances of mistakes. Suggestion to use kmemdup rather than using kmalloc/kzalloc + memcpy. 2019-05-23media: Kconfig: allow to select drivers if EMBEDDEDStefan Agner1-1/+1
Embedded systems often connect to sensors or other multimedia subdevices directly. Currently, to be able to select such a subdevice (e.g. CONFIG_VIDEO_OV5640) disabling of the auto- select config option is needed (CONFIG_MEDIA_SUBDRV_AUTOSELECT). This is inconvenient as the ancillary drivers for a particular device then need to be selected manually. Allow to select drivers manually while keeping the auto-select feature in case EXPERT (selected by EMBEDDED) is enabled. 2018-09-17media: v4l2: taint pads with the signal types for consumer devicesMauro Carvalho Chehab1-1/+3
Consumer devices are provided with a wide different range of types supported by the same driver, allowing different configutations. In order to make easier to setup media controller links, "taint" pads with the signal type it carries. While here, get rid of DEMOD_PAD_VBI_OUT, as the signal it carries is actually the same as the normal video output. The difference happens at the video/VBI interface: - for VBI, only the hidden lines are streamed; - for video, the stream is usually cropped to hide the vbi lines. For some types of tuners (Philips FMD1216ME(X) MK3 currently) we know that letting TDA9887 output port 1 remain high (inactive) will switch FM radio to mono mode. 2018-03-21media: add tuner standby op, use where neededHans Verkuil3-42/+9
The v4l2_subdev core s_power op was used for two different things: power on/off sensors or video decoders/encoders and to put a tuner in standby (and only the tuner!). There is no 'tuner wakeup' op, that's done automatically when the tuner is accessed. The danger with calling (s_power, 0) to put a tuner into standby is that it is usually broadcast for all subdevs. So a video receiver subdev that supports s_power will also be powered off, and since there is no corresponding (s_power, 1) they will never be powered on again. In addition, this is specifically meant for tuners only since they draw the most current. This patch adds a new tuner op called 'standby' and replaces all calls to (core, s_power, 0) by (tuner, standby). This prevents confusion between the two uses of s_power. Note that there is no overlap: bridge drivers either just want to put the tuner into standby, or they deal with powering on/off sensors. Never both. This also makes it easier to replace s_power for the remaining bridge drivers with some PM code later. Whether we want something cleaner for tuners in the future is a separate topic. There is a lot of legacy code surrounding tuners, and I am very hesitant about making changes there.
