[ Upstream commit 17f5eebf6780eee50f887542e1833fda95f53e4d ] Allocating a contiguous buffer of 64K may fail if memory is sufficiently fragmented, and may cause OOM kill of an unrelated process. However we do not need to have contiguous memory. We also do not need to zero out the buffer since it will be overwritten with firmware data. Switch to using kvmalloc() instead of kzalloc(). [ Upstream commit 38a38f5a36da9820680d413972cb733349400532 ] When support for Silead touchscreens was orginal added some touchscreens with older firmware versions only supported 5 fingers and this was made the default requiring the setting of a "silead,max-fingers=10" uint32 device-property for all touchscreen models which do support 10 fingers. There are very few models with the old 5 finger fw, so in practice the setting of the "silead,max-fingers=10" is boilerplate which needs to be copy and pasted to every touchscreen config. Reporting that 10 fingers are supported on devices which only support 5 fingers doesn't cause any problems for userspace in practice, since at max 4 finger gestures are supported anyways. Drop the max_fingers configuration and simply always assume 10 fingers. GpioInt resource pointing to the GPIO used for the interrupt 2. GpioIo resource pointing to the reset GPIO 3. GpioIo resource pointing to the GPIO used for the interrupt Note how the third extra GpioIo resource really is a duplicate of the GpioInt provided info. Ignore this extra GPIO, treating this setup the same as gpio_count == 2 && gpio_int_idx == 0 fixes the touchscreen not working on the Thunderbook Colossus W803 rugged tablet and likely also on the CyberBook_T116K. gpio_int_idx == 0 case commit 423622a90abb243944d1517b9f57db53729e45c4 upstream. Add a special case for gpio_count == 1 && gpio_int_idx == 0 to goodix_add_acpi_gpio_mappings(). It seems that on newer x86/ACPI devices the reset and irq GPIOs are no longer listed as GPIO resources instead there is only 1 GpioInt resource and _PS0 does the whole reset sequence for us. This means that we must call acpi_device_fix_up_power() on these devices to ensure that the chip is reset before we try to use it. This part was already fixed in commit 3de93e6ed2df ("Input: goodix - call acpi_device_fix_up_power() in some cases") by adding a call to acpi_device_fix_up_power() to the generic "Unexpected ACPI resources" catch all. But it turns out that this case on some hw needs some more special handling. Specifically the firmware may bootup with the IRQ pin in output mode. Adding the lookup will make the gpiod_int = gpiod_get(..., GPIOD_IN) call succeed, which will explicitly set the direction to input fixing the issue. Note this re-uses the acpi_goodix_int_first_gpios[] lookup table, since there is only 1 GPIO in the ACPI resources the reset entry in that lookup table will amount to a no-op. The Android Lenovo Yoga Book X90F / X90L uses the same goodix touchscreen with 9 bytes touch reports for its touch keyboard as the already supported Windows Lenovo Yoga Book X91F/L, add a DMI match for this to the nine_bytes_report DMI table. When the quirk for the X91F/L was initially added it was written to also apply to the X90F/L but this does not work because the Android version of the Yoga Book uses completely different DMI strings. Also adjust the X91F/L quirk to reflect that it only applies to the X91F/L models. [ Upstream commit a85fbd6498441694475716a4d5c65f9d3e073faf ] As can be seen in elants_i2c_power_off(), we want the reset GPIO asserted when power is off. The reset GPIO is active low so we need the reset line logic low when power is off to avoid leakage. We have a problem, though, at probe time. At probe time we haven't powered the regulators on yet but we have: devm_gpiod_get(&client->dev, "reset", GPIOD_OUT_LOW); While that _looks_ right, it turns out that it's not. The GPIOD_OUT_LOW doesn't mean to init the GPIO to low. It means init the GPIO to "not asserted". Since this is an active low GPIO that inits it to be high. Let's fix this to properly init the GPIO. Now after both probe and power off the state of the GPIO is consistent (it's "asserted" or level low). Once we fix this, we can see that at power on time we no longer to assert the reset GPIO as the first thing. The reset GPIO is _always_ asserted before powering on. Let's fix powering on to account for this. On ACPI systems (irq_pin_access_method == IRQ_PIN_ACCESS_ACPI_*) the driver does not reset the controller at probe time, because sometimes the system firmware loads a config and resetting might loose this config. On the Nanote UMPC-01 device OTOH the config is in flash of the controller, the controller needs a reset to load this; and the system firmware does not reset the controller on a cold boot. To fix the Nanote UMPC-01 touchscreen not working on a cold boot, try resetting the controller and then re-reading the config when encountering a config with 0 width/height/max_touch_num value and the controller has not already been reset by goodix_ts_probe(). This should be safe to do in general because normally we should never encounter a config with 0 width/height/max_touch_num. Doing this in general not only avoids the need for a DMI quirk, but also might help other systems. The value returned by an i2c driver's remove function is mostly ignored. (Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the error is ignored.) So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to the upper layer is a good idea. On ACPI boards, when we cannot get the GPIOs to do a reset ourselves if necessary, call acpi_device_fix_up_power() to force the ACPI _PS0 method to run. On some devices without proper GPIO descriptions this will reset the touchscreen for us and this may be necessary for us to be able to communicate to the touchscreen at all. Specifically on an Aya Neo Next this change will cause the _PS0() ACPI function to call INIT() which does: Method (INIT, 0, Serialized) { TP_I = 0x00A50000 TP_R = 0x00A50000 Sleep (0x0A) TP_I = 0x00E50000 Sleep (One) TP_R = 0x00E50000 Sleep (0x06) TP_I = 0x00A50000 Sleep (0x3C) TP_I = 0x00041800 } On older kernels the ACPI core assumed a power-on was necessary by itself and would run _PS0 before our probe function runs, which can be seen from the GPIO pin ctrl registers in /sys/kernel/debug/gpio which match the above hex values with older kernels. With newer kernels before this change the GPIO pin ctrl registers do not match, indicating INIT() has not run and probing the touchscreen fails. This change makes Linux run _PS0() again fixing the touchscreen not working on the Aya Neo Next. wait_for_completion_timeout() returns unsigned long not int. It returns 0 if timed out, and positive if completed. The check for <= 0 is ambiguous and should be == 0 here indicating timeout which is the only error case.
