[ 420.333904] failed to register platform driver vc4_hvs_driver [vc4]: -16 modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'vc4': Device or resource busy The reason is that vc4_drm_register() returns platform_driver_register() directly without checking its return value, if platform_driver_register() fails, it returns without unregistering all the vc4 drivers, resulting the vc4 can never be installed later. A simple call graph is shown as below: vc4_drm_register() platform_register_drivers() # all vc4 drivers are registered platform_driver_register() driver_register() bus_add_driver() priv = kzalloc(...) # OOM happened # return without unregister drivers Fixing this problem by checking the return value of platform_driver_register() and do platform_unregister_drivers() if error happened. 2022-10-26drm/vc4: vec: Fix timings for VEC modesMateusz Kwiatkowski1-2/+2
[ Upstream commit 30d7565be96b3946c18a1ce3fd538f7946839092 ] This commit fixes vertical timings of the VEC (composite output) modes to accurately represent the 525-line ("NTSC") and 625-line ("PAL") ITU-R standards. Previous timings were actually defined as 502 and 601 lines, resulting in non-standard 62.69 Hz and 52 Hz signals being generated, respectively. 2022-08-25drm/vc4: dsi: Correct DSI divider calculationsDave Stevenson1-4/+2
[ Upstream commit 3b45eee87da171caa28f61240ddb5c21170cda53 ] The divider calculations tried to find the divider just faster than the clock requested. However if it required a divider of 7 then the for loop aborted without handling the "error" case, and could end up with a clock lower than requested. The integer divider from parent PLL to DSI clock is also capable of going up to /255, not just /7 that the driver was trying. This allows for slower link frequencies on the DSI bus where the resolution permits. Correct the loop so that we always have a clock greater than requested, and covering the whole range of dividers. 2022-06-14drm/vc4: txp: Force alpha to be 0xff if it's disabledMaxime Ripard1-0/+6
[ Upstream commit 5453343a88ede8b12812fced81ecd24cb888ccc3 ] If we use a format that has padding instead of the alpha component (such as XRGB8888), it appears that the Transposer will fill the padding to 0, disregarding what was stored in the input buffer padding. This leads to issues with IGT, since it will set the padding to 0xff, but will then compare the CRC of the two frames which will thus fail. Another nice side effect is that it is now possible to just use the buffer as ARGB. 2022-06-14drm/vc4: txp: Don't set TXP_VSTART_AT_EOFMaxime Ripard1-1/+1
[ Upstream commit 234998df929f14d00cbf2f1e81a7facb69fd9266 ] The TXP_VSTART_AT_EOF will generate a second VSTART signal to the HVS. However, the HVS waits for VSTART to enable the FIFO and will thus start filling the FIFO before the start of the frame. This leads to corruption at the beginning of the first frame, and content from the previous frame at the beginning of the next frames. Since one VSTART is enough, let's get rid of it. [ Upstream commit 0560054da5673b25d56bea6c57c8d069673af73b ] For the YUV conversion to work properly, ->x_scaling[1] should never be set to VC4_SCALING_NONE, but vc4_get_scaling_mode() might return VC4_SCALING_NONE if the horizontal scaling ratio exactly matches the horizontal subsampling factor. Add a test to turn VC4_SCALING_NONE into VC4_SCALING_PPF when that happens. The old ->x_scaling[0] adjustment is dropped as I couldn't find any mention to this constraint in the spec and it's proven to be unnecessary (I tested various multi-planar YUV formats with scaling disabled, and all of them worked fine without this adjustment). 2018-09-10drm/vc4: Fix the "no scaling" case on multi-planar YUV formatsBoris Brezillon1-13/+12
When there's no scaling requested ->is_unity should be true no matter the format. Also, when no scaling is requested and we have a multi-planar YUV format, we should leave ->y_scaling[0] to VC4_SCALING_NONE and only set ->x_scaling[0] to VC4_SCALING_PPF. 2018-07-07drm/vc4: Use wait_for_flip_done() instead of wait_for_vblanks()Boris Brezillon1-10/+1
drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_vblanks() assumes the CRTC will continuously generate VBLANK events and the vblank counter will keep increasing. While this work for a regular pipeline, it doesn't when you have the CRTC is feeding the transposer block, because this block works in oneshot mode, and, by the time we reach drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_vblanks() the only VBLANK event might have already been sent and the VBLANK counter will stay unchanged, thus triggering a timeout. Luckily, we can replace the drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_vblanks() call by drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_flip_done() because the only thing we want to check when calling drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_vblanks() from vc4_atomic_complete_commit() is that new FBs are in use and the old ones can be safely released. In commits: 34a2ab5e0689 ("drm: Add acquire ctx parameter to ->update_plane") 1931529448bc ("drm: Add acquire ctx parameter to ->plane_disable") a pointer to a drm_modeset_acquire_ctx structure was added as an argument to the method prototypes. The transitional helpers are supposed to be directly plugged in as implementations of these methods, but doing so generates a warning. Add the missing argument. A number of buggy users were added for drm_plane_helper_disable() which need to be fixed up for this change, which we do by passing a NULL ctx argument. The kmalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kmalloc_array(). This patch replaces cases of: kmalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kmalloc_array(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kmalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kmalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kmalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kmalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were dropped, since they're redundant. The tools/ directory was manually excluded, since it has its own implementation of kmalloc(). 2018-05-31drm/vc4: Add support for SAND modifier.Dave Stevenson2-7/+83
This is the format generated by VC4's H.264 engine, and preferred by the ISP as well. By displaying SAND buffers directly, we can avoid needing to use the ISP to rewrite the SAND H.264 output to linear before display. This is a joint effort by Dave Stevenson (who wrote the initial patch and DRM demo) and Eric Anholt (drm_fourcc.h generalization, safety checks, RGBA support). v2: Make the parameter macro give all of the middle 48 bits (suggested by Daniels). Fix fourcc_mod_broadcom_mod()'s bits/shift being swapped. Mark NV12/21 as supported, not YUV420. 2018-05-17drm/vc4: plane: Expand the lower bits by repeating the higher bitsMaxime Ripard1-0/+1
The vc4 HVS uses an internal RGB888 representation of the frames, and will by default expand formats using a lower depth using zeros. This causes an issue when we try to use other compositing software such as pixman that fill the missing bits by repeating the higher significant bits. As such, we can't check the display output in a reliable way by doing a software composition and an hardware one and compare both. To prevent this, force the same behaviour so that we can do such things.
