2022-11-25drm/vc4: Fix missing platform_unregister_drivers() call in vc4_drm_register()Yuan Can1-1/+6
[ Upstream commit cf53db768a8790fdaae2fa3a81322b080285f7e5 ] A problem about modprobe vc4 failed is triggered with the following log given: [ 420.327987] Error: Driver 'vc4_hvs' is already registered, aborting... [ 420.333904] failed to register platform driver vc4_hvs_driver [vc4]: -16 modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'vc4': Device or resource busy The reason is that vc4_drm_register() returns platform_driver_register() directly without checking its return value, if platform_driver_register() fails, it returns without unregistering all the vc4 drivers, resulting the vc4 can never be installed later. A simple call graph is shown as below: vc4_drm_register() platform_register_drivers() # all vc4 drivers are registered platform_driver_register() driver_register() bus_add_driver() priv = kzalloc(...) # OOM happened # return without unregister drivers Fixing this problem by checking the return value of platform_driver_register() and do platform_unregister_drivers() if error happened. 2022-10-26drm/vc4: vec: Fix timings for VEC modesMateusz Kwiatkowski1-2/+2
[ Upstream commit 30d7565be96b3946c18a1ce3fd538f7946839092 ] This commit fixes vertical timings of the VEC (composite output) modes to accurately represent the 525-line ("NTSC") and 625-line ("PAL") ITU-R standards. Previous timings were actually defined as 502 and 601 lines, resulting in non-standard 62.69 Hz and 52 Hz signals being generated, respectively. 2022-08-25drm/vc4: dsi: Correct DSI divider calculationsDave Stevenson1-4/+2
[ Upstream commit 3b45eee87da171caa28f61240ddb5c21170cda53 ] The divider calculations tried to find the divider just faster than the clock requested. However if it required a divider of 7 then the for loop aborted without handling the "error" case, and could end up with a clock lower than requested. The integer divider from parent PLL to DSI clock is also capable of going up to /255, not just /7 that the driver was trying. This allows for slower link frequencies on the DSI bus where the resolution permits. Correct the loop so that we always have a clock greater than requested, and covering the whole range of dividers. [ Upstream commit 0560054da5673b25d56bea6c57c8d069673af73b ] For the YUV conversion to work properly, ->x_scaling[1] should never be set to VC4_SCALING_NONE, but vc4_get_scaling_mode() might return VC4_SCALING_NONE if the horizontal scaling ratio exactly matches the horizontal subsampling factor. Add a test to turn VC4_SCALING_NONE into VC4_SCALING_PPF when that happens. The old ->x_scaling[0] adjustment is dropped as I couldn't find any mention to this constraint in the spec and it's proven to be unnecessary (I tested various multi-planar YUV formats with scaling disabled, and all of them worked fine without this adjustment). Also, when no scaling is requested and we have a multi-planar YUV format, we should leave ->y_scaling[0] to VC4_SCALING_NONE and only set ->x_scaling[0] to VC4_SCALING_PPF. 2018-02-03drm/vc4: Move IRQ enable to PM pathStefan Schake2-3/+3

Additionally, dev->irq is not set correctly until after postinstall and so was always zero here, triggering a warning in 4.15. Fix both by moving the enable to the power management resume path, where we know there was a previous disable invocation during suspend. 2017-12-25drm/vc4: Avoid using vrefresh==0 mode in DSI htotal math.Eric Anholt1-1/+2
[ Upstream commit af2eca53206c59ce9308a4f5f46c4a104a179b6b ] The incoming mode might have a missing vrefresh field if it came from drmModeSetCrtc(), which the kernel is supposed to calculate using drm_mode_vrefresh(). We could either use that or the adjusted_mode's original vrefresh value. 2017-12-05drm/edid: Don't send non-zero YQ in AVI infoframe for HDMI 1.x sinksVille Syrjälä1-1/+2
commit 9271c0ca573e02a360b636ecd8cb408852f4e9f6 upstream. Apparently some sinks look at the YQ bits even when receiving RGB, and they get somehow confused when they see a non-zero YQ value. So we can't just blindly follow CEA-861-F and set YQ to match the RGB range. Unfortunately there is no good way to tell whether the sink designer claims to have read CEA-861-F. The CEA extension block revision number has generally been stuck at 3 since forever, and even a very recently manufactured sink might be based on an old design so the manufacturing date doesn't seem like something we can use. In lieu of better information let's follow CEA-861-F only for HDMI 2.0 sinks, since HDMI 2.0 is based on CEA-861-F. For HDMI 1.x sinks we'll always set YQ=0. The alternative would of course be to always set YQ=0. And if we ever encounter a HDMI 2.0+ sink with this bug that's what we'll probably have to do. Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. The only special case is nouveau which used one function for both pre-nv50 legacy modeset code and post-nv50 atomic world instead of 2 vtables. But amounts to exactly the same. What is rather strange here is how few drivers set this up, I suspect the earlier patch to handle properties in the core did end up fixing a pile of possible issues. This has proven immensely useful for debugging memory leaks and overallocation (which is a rather serious concern on the platform, given that we typically run at about 256MB of CMA out of up to 1GB total memory, with framebuffers that are about 8MB ecah). The state of the art without this is to dump debug logs from every GL application, guess as to kernel allocations based on bo_stats, and try to merge that all together into a global picture of memory allocation state. With this, you can add a couple of calls to the debug build of the 3D driver and get a pretty detailed view of GPU memory usage from /debug/dri/0/bo_stats (or when we debug print to dmesg on allocation failure). The Mesa side currently labels at the gallium resource level (so you see that a 1920x20 pixmap has been created, presumably for the window system panel), but we could extend that to be even more useful with glObjectLabel() names being sent all the way down to the kernel. In order to support CEC the hsm clock needs to be enabled in vc4_hdmi_bind(), not in vc4_hdmi_encoder_enable(). Otherwise you wouldn't be able to support CEC when there is no hotplug detect signal, which is required by some monitors that turn off the HPD when in standby, but keep the CEC bus alive so they can be woken up. The HDMI core also has to be enabled in vc4_hdmi_bind() for the same reason. VC4 has its own nonblocking modeset tracking through the vc4->async_modeset semaphore, so it doesn't need to stall in swap_state. Pass stall = false and BUG_ON when it returns an error. This should never happen for !stall. HDMI 1.4b support the CEA video modes as per range of CEA-861-D (VIC 1-64). For any other mode, the VIC filed in AVI infoframes should be 0. HDMI 2.0 sinks, support video modes range as per CEA-861-F spec, which is extended to (VIC 1-107). This patch adds a bool input variable, which indicates if the connected sink is a HDMI 2.0 sink or not. This will make sure that we don't pass a HDMI 2.0 VIC to a HDMI 1.4 sink. This patch touches all drm drivers, who are callers of this function drm_hdmi_avi_infoframe_from_display_mode but to make sure there is no change in current behavior, is_hdmi2 is kept as false. In case of I915 driver, this patch: - checks if the connected display is HDMI 2.0. - HDMI infoframes carry one of this two type of information: - VIC for 4K modes for HDMI 1.4 sinks - S3D information for S3D modes As CEA-861-F has already defined VICs for 4K videomodes, this patch doesn't allow sending HDMI infoframes for HDMI 2.0 sinks, until the mode is 3D.
