2023-06-08drm/sti: Convert to platform remove callback returning voidUwe Kleine-König1-3/+2
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Trivially convert the sti drm drivers from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. With clang's kernel control flow integrity (kCFI, CONFIG_CFI_CLANG), indirect call targets are validated against the expected function pointer prototype to make sure the call target is valid to help mitigate ROP attacks. If they are not identical, there is a failure at run time, which manifests as either a kernel panic or thread getting killed. 2022-11-12drm/sti: Use drm_mode_copy()Ville Syrjälä1-1/+1
struct drm_display_mode embeds a list head, so overwriting the full struct with another one will corrupt the list (if the destination mode is on a list). Use drm_mode_copy() instead which explicitly preserves the list head of the destination mode. Even if we know the destination mode is not on any list using drm_mode_copy() seems decent as it sets a good example. Bad examples of not using it might eventually get copied into code where preserving the list head actually matters. Obviously one case not covered here is when the mode itself is embedded in a larger structure and the whole structure is copied. 2020-03-18drm/sti: remove use of drm_debugfs functions as return valuesWambui Karuga1-8/+5
Since commit 987d65d01356 (drm: debugfs: make drm_debugfs_create_files() never fail), drm_debugfs_create_files() never fails, and should return void. This change therefore removes it uses as a return value in various functions across drm/sti. With these changes, the affected functions have been changed to use a void return value. v2: convert sti_mixer_debugfs_init() and sti_compositor_debugfs_init() to return void too. Also have sti_drm_dbg_init() to return 0 to avoid build issues. 2020-02-26drm/bridge: Extend bridge API to disable connector creationLaurent Pinchart1-1/+1
Most bridge drivers create a DRM connector to model the connector at the output of the bridge. This model is historical and has worked pretty well so far, but causes several issues: - It prevents supporting more complex display pipelines where DRM connector operations are split over multiple components. For instance a pipeline with a bridge connected to the DDC signals to read EDID data, and another one connected to the HPD signal to detect connection and disconnection, will not be possible to support through this model. - It requires every bridge driver to implement similar connector handling code, resulting in code duplication. - It assumes that a bridge will either be wired to a connector or to another bridge, but doesn't support bridges that can be used in both positions very well (although there is some ad-hoc support for this in the analogix_dp bridge driver). In order to solve these issues, ownership of the connector should be moved to the display controller driver (where it can be implemented using helpers provided by the core). Extend the bridge API to allow disabling connector creation in bridge drivers as a first step towards the new model. The new flags argument to the bridge .attach() operation allows instructing the bridge driver to skip creating a connector. Unconditionally set the new flags argument to 0 for now to keep the existing behaviour, and modify all existing bridge drivers to return an error when connector creation is not requested as they don't support this feature yet. To facilitate moving connector creation to display drivers, decouple the drm_connector from drm_panel. This patch adds a connector argument to drm_panel_get_modes(). All users of drm_panel_get_modes() already had the connector available, so updating users was trivial. With this patch drm_panel no longer keeps a reference to the drm_connector. We are about to add a drm_bridge_state that inherits from drm_private_state which is defined in drm_atomic.h. Problem is, drm_atomic.h includes drm_crtc.h which in turn includes drm_bridge.h, leading to "drm_private_state has incomplete type" error. Let's force all users of the drm_bridge API to explicitly include drm_bridge.h. Having the probe helper stuff (which pretty much everyone needs) in the drm_crtc_helper.h file (which atomic drivers should never need) is confusing. Split them out. To make sure I actually achieved the goal here I went through all drivers. And indeed, all atomic drivers are now free of drm_crtc_helper.h includes. v2: Make it compile. There was so much compile fail on arm drivers that I figured I'll better not include any of the acks on v1. v3: Massive rebase because i915 has lost a lot of drmP.h includes, but not all: Through drm_crtc_helper.h > drm_modeset_helper.h -> drmP.h there was still one, which this patch largely removes. Which means rolling out lots more includes all over. 2018-07-10drm/panel: Make of_drm_find_panel() return an ERR_PTR() instead of NULLBoris Brezillon1-1/+3
Right now, the DRM panel logic returns NULL when a panel pointing to the passed OF node is not present in the list of registered panels. Most drivers interpret this NULL value as -EPROBE_DEFER, but we are about to modify the semantic of of_drm_find_panel() and let the framework return -ENODEV when the device node we're pointing to has a status property that is not equal to "okay" or "ok". Let's first patch the of_drm_find_panel() implementation to return ERR_PTR(-EPROBE_DEFER) instead of NULL and patch all callers to replace the '!panel' check by an 'IS_ERR(panel)' one. Make sti driver use register callback to move debugfs initialization out of sub-components creation. This will allow to convert driver .load() to drm_dev_alloc() and drm_dev_register(). sti_compositor bring up 2 crtc but only one debugfs init is needed so use drm_crtc_index to do it on the first one. This can't be done in sti_drv because only sti_compositor have access to the devices.
