2024-10-10drm/msm/adreno: Assign msm_gpu->pdev earlier to avoid nullptrsKonrad Dybcio2-1/+1
[ Upstream commit 16007768551d5bfe53426645401435ca8d2ef54f ] There are some cases, such as the one uncovered by Commit 46d4efcccc68 ("drm/msm/a6xx: Avoid a nullptr dereference when speedbin setting fails") where msm_gpu_cleanup() : platform_set_drvdata(gpu->pdev, NULL); is called on gpu->pdev == NULL, as the GPU device has not been fully initialized yet. Turns out that there's more than just the aforementioned path that causes this to happen (e.g. the case when there's speedbin data in the catalog, but opp-supported-hw is missing in DT). Assigning msm_gpu->pdev earlier seems like the least painful solution to this, therefore do so. 2024-10-04drm/msm/a5xx: workaround early ring-buffer emptiness checkVladimir Lypak3-0/+9
[ Upstream commit a30f9f65b5ac82d4390548c32ed9c7f05de7ddf5 ] There is another cause for soft lock-up of GPU in empty ring-buffer: race between GPU executing last commands and CPU checking ring for emptiness. On GPU side IRQ for retire is triggered by CACHE_FLUSH_TS event and RPTR shadow (which is used to check ring emptiness) is updated a bit later from CP_CONTEXT_SWITCH_YIELD. Thus if GPU is executing its last commands slow enough or we check that ring too fast we will miss a chance to trigger switch to lower priority ring because current ring isn't empty just yet. This can escalate to lock-up situation described in previous patch. To work-around this issue we keep track of last submit sequence number for each ring and compare it with one written to memptrs from GPU during execution of CACHE_FLUSH_TS event. 2024-10-04drm/msm/a5xx: fix races in preemption evaluation stageVladimir Lypak2-2/+23
[ Upstream commit ce050f307ad93bcc5958d0dd35fc276fd394d274 ] On A5XX GPUs when preemption is used it's invietable to enter a soft lock-up state in which GPU is stuck at empty ring-buffer doing nothing. This appears as full UI lockup and not detected as GPU hang (because it's not). This happens due to not triggering preemption when it was needed. Sometimes this state can be recovered by some new submit but generally it won't happen because applications are waiting for old submits to retire. One of the reasons why this happens is a race between a5xx_submit and a5xx_preempt_trigger called from IRQ during submit retire. Former thread updates ring->cur of previously empty and not current ring right after latter checks it for emptiness. Then both threads can just exit because for first one preempt_state wasn't NONE yet and for second one all rings appeared to be empty. To prevent such situations from happening we need to establish guarantee for preempt_trigger to make decision after each submit or retire. To implement this we serialize preemption initiation using spinlock. If switch is already in progress we need to re-trigger preemption when it finishes. This is the reason behind faults which happen when we try to switch to the ring that was active last before suspend. In addition those faults can't be recovered from because we use suspend and resume to do so (keeping values of those fields again). 2024-10-04drm/msm/a5xx: disable preemption in submits by defaultVladimir Lypak1-2/+6
[ Upstream commit db9dec2db76146d65e1cfbb6afb2e2bd5dab67f8 ] Fine grain preemption (switching from/to points within submits) requires extra handling in command stream of those submits, especially when rendering with tiling (using GMEM). However this handling is missing at this point in mesa (and always was). For this reason we get random GPU faults and hangs if more than one priority level is used because local preemption is enabled prior to executing command stream from submit. With that said it was ahead of time to enable local preemption by default considering the fact that even on downstream kernel it is only enabled if requested via UAPI. 'newname' is used instead of 'fwname', so prefix "qcom/" is being added to filename. Looks like "copy-paste" mistake. Fix this mistake by replacing 'newname' with 'fwname'. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with SVACE. We want to use this return code when there is no zap-shader node. But not when there is, but without a firmware-name property. This case we want to treat as-if the needed fw is not found. 2024-08-29drm/msm: fix the highest_bank_bit for sc7180Abhinav Kumar1-1/+1
[ Upstream commit 3e30296b374af33cb4c12ff93df0b1e5b2d0f80b ] sc7180 programs the ubwc settings as 0x1e as that would mean a highest bank bit of 14 which matches what the GPU sets as well. However, the highest_bank_bit field of the msm_mdss_data which is being used to program the SSPP's fetch configuration is programmed to a highest bank bit of 16 as 0x3 translates to 16 and not 14. Fix the highest bank bit field used for the SSPP to match the mdss and gpu settings. [ Upstream commit a55c8ff252d374acb6f78b979cadc38073ce95e8 ] Apart from the already handled data bus (MAS_MDP_Pn<->DDR), there's another path that needs to be handled to ensure MDSS functions properly, namely the "reg bus", a.k.a the CPU-MDSS interconnect. Gating that path may have a variety of effects, from none to otherwise inexplicable DSI timeouts. Provide a way for MDSS driver to vote on this bus. A note regarding vote values. Newer platforms have corresponding bandwidth values in the vendor DT files. For the older platforms there was a static vote in the mdss_mdp and rotator drivers. I choose to be conservative here and choose this value as a default. This is not an issue yet, because rotation is only supported for the UBWC planes and wide UBWC planes are rejected anyway because in parallel multirect case only the half of the usual width is supported for tiled formats. However it's better to fix this now rather than stumbling upon it later. 2024-08-29drm/msm/dpu: try multirect based on mdp clock limitsAbhinav Kumar1-2/+6
[ Upstream commit e6c0de5f445091d250b75dabc4c60dd2643b8c98 ] It's certainly possible that for large resolutions a single DPU SSPP cannot process the image without exceeding the MDP clock limits but it can still process it in multirect mode because the source rectangles will get divided and can fall within the MDP clock limits. If the SSPP cannot process the image even in multirect mode, then it will be rejected in dpu_plane_atomic_check_pipe(). 2024-08-29drm/msm/dpu: move dpu_encoder's connector assignment to atomic_enable()Abhinav Kumar1-2/+2
[ Upstream commit aedf02e46eb549dac8db4821a6b9f0c6bf6e3990 ] For cases where the crtc's connectors_changed was set without enable/active getting toggled , there is an atomic_enable() call followed by an atomic_disable() but without an atomic_mode_set(). This results in a NULL ptr access for the dpu_encoder_get_drm_fmt() call in the atomic_enable() as the dpu_encoder's connector was cleared in the atomic_disable() but not re-assigned as there was no atomic_mode_set() call. Fix the NULL ptr access by moving the assignment for atomic_enable() and also use drm_atomic_get_new_connector_for_encoder() to get the connector from the atomic_state. [ Upstream commit df24373435f5899a2a98b7d377479c8d4376613b ] DPU debugging macros need to be converted to a proper drm_debug_* macros, however this is a going an intrusive patch, not suitable for a fix. Wire DPU_DEBUG and DPU_DEBUG_DRIVER to always use DRM_DEBUG_DRIVER to make sure that DPU debugging messages always end up in the drm debug messages and are controlled via the usual drm.debug mask. I don't think that it is a good idea for a generic DPU_DEBUG macro to be tied to DRM_UT_KMS. It is used to report a debug message from driver, so by default it should go to the DRM_UT_DRIVER channel. While refactoring debug macros later on we might end up with particular messages going to ATOMIC or KMS, but DRIVER should be the default. Eventually the wait will timeout and we'll move on to consider other GEM objects. But given that there is still a potential for deadlock/stalling, we should reduce the timeout to contain the damage. However, when DPU was originally submitted to mainline PPSPLIT was no longer part of it (seems to have been ripped out before submission), but this clause was incorrectly ported from the original SDE driver. Given that there is no support for PPSPLIT (currently), flushing the slave INTF should /never/ be skipped (as the `if (ppsplit && !master) goto skip;` clause downstream never becomes true). 2024-06-12drm/msm/dp: Avoid a long timeout for AUX transfer if nothing connectedDouglas Anderson3-0/+25
[ Upstream commit 5d1a7493343cc00d9019880b686e4e0a0f649531 ] As documented in the description of the transfer() function of "struct drm_dp_aux", the transfer() function can be called at any time regardless of the state of the DP port. Specifically if the kernel has the DP AUX character device enabled and userspace accesses "/dev/drm_dp_auxN" directly then the AUX transfer function will be called regardless of whether a DP device is connected. For eDP panels we have a special rule where we wait (with a 5 second timeout) for HPD to go high. This rule was important before all panels drivers were converted to call wait_hpd_asserted() and actually can be removed in a future commit. For external DP devices we never checked for HPD. That means that trying to access the DP AUX character device (AKA `hexdump -C /dev/drm_dp_auxN`) would very, very slowly timeout. Specifically on my system: $ time hexdump -C /dev/drm_dp_aux0 hexdump: /dev/drm_dp_aux0: Connection timed out real 0m8.200s We want access to the drm_dp_auxN character device to fail faster than 8 seconds when no DP cable is plugged in. Let's add a test to make transfers fail right away if a device isn't plugged in. Rather than testing the HPD line directly, we have the dp_display module tell us when AUX transfers should be enabled so we can handle cases where HPD is signaled out of band like with Type C. This is already represented by the return value of dpu_encoder_use_dsc_merge(), but not yet used to correctly configure this flag. [ Upstream commit 2f4a67a3894e15c135125cb54edc5b43abc1b70e ] Currently INTF_CFG2_DATA_HCTL_EN is coupled with the enablement of widebus but this is incorrect because we should be enabling this bit independent of widebus except for cases where compression is enabled in one pixel per clock mode. Fix this by making the condition checks more explicit and enabling INTF_CFG2_DATA_HCTL_EN for all other cases when supported by DPU. The brute force iommu_flush_iotlb_all() was good enough for unmap, but in some cases a map operation could require removing a table pte entry to replace with a block entry. This also requires tlb invalidation. Missing this was resulting an obscure iova fault on what should be a valid buffer address. Thanks to Robin Murphy for helping me understand the cause of the fault. Changing the locking order means that scheduler/msm_job_run() can race with the recovery kthread worker, with the result that the GPU gets an extra runpm get when we are trying to power it off. Leaving the GPU in an unrecovered state. I'll need to come up with a different scheme for appeasing lockdep. Hence fix this problem by having dp_link_get_colorimetry_config() return defined CEA RGB colorimetry value in the case of DP_TEST_DYNAMIC_RANGE_CEA.
