2025-10-02minmax: add in_range() macroMatthew Wilcox (Oracle)2-13/+13
[ Upstream commit f9bff0e31881d03badf191d3b0005839391f5f2b ] Patch series "New page table range API", v6. This patchset changes the API used by the MM to set up page table entries. The four APIs are: set_ptes(mm, addr, ptep, pte, nr) update_mmu_cache_range(vma, addr, ptep, nr) flush_dcache_folio(folio) flush_icache_pages(vma, page, nr) flush_dcache_folio() isn't technically new, but no architecture implemented it, so I've done that for them. The old APIs remain around but are mostly implemented by calling the new interfaces. The new APIs are based around setting up N page table entries at once. The N entries belong to the same PMD, the same folio and the same VMA, so ptep++ is a legitimate operation, and locking is taken care of for you. Some architectures can do a better job of it than just a loop, but I have hesitated to make too deep a change to architectures I don't understand well. One thing I have changed in every architecture is that PG_arch_1 is now a per-folio bit instead of a per-page bit when used for dcache clean/dirty tracking. This was something that would have to happen eventually, and it makes sense to do it now rather than iterate over every page involved in a cache flush and figure out if it needs to happen. The point of all this is better performance, and Fengwei Yin has measured improvement on x86. I suspect you'll see improvement on your architecture too. Try the new will-it-scale test mentioned here: https://lore.kernel.org/linux-mm/20230206140639.538867-5-fengwei.yin@intel.com/ You'll need to run it on an XFS filesystem and have CONFIG_TRANSPARENT_HUGEPAGE set. This patchset is the basis for much of the anonymous large folio work being done by Ryan, so it's received quite a lot of testing over the last few months. This patch (of 38): Determine if a value lies within a range more efficiently (subtraction + comparison vs two comparisons and an AND). It also has useful (under some circumstances) behaviour if the range exceeds the maximum value of the type. Convert all the conflicting definitions of in_range() within the kernel; some can use the generic definition while others need their own definition. 2024-09-30drm: komeda: Fix an issue related to normalized zposhongchi.peng1-3/+7
[ Upstream commit 258905cb9a6414be5c9ca4aa20ef855f8dc894d4 ] We use komeda_crtc_normalize_zpos to normalize zpos of affected planes to their blending zorder in CU. If there's only one slave plane in affected planes and its layer_split property is enabled, order++ for its split layer, so that when calculating the normalized_zpos of master planes, the split layer of the slave plane is included, but the max_slave_zorder does not include the split layer and keep zero because there's only one slave plane in affacted planes, although we actually use two slave layers in this commit. In most cases, this bug does not result in a commit failure, but assume the following situation: slave_layer 0: zpos = 0, layer split enabled, normalized_zpos = 0;(use slave_layer 2 as its split layer) master_layer 0: zpos = 2, layer_split enabled, normalized_zpos = 2;(use master_layer 2 as its split layer) master_layer 1: zpos = 4, normalized_zpos = 4; master_layer 3: zpos = 5, normalized_zpos = 5; kcrtc_st->max_slave_zorder = 0; When we use master_layer 3 as a input of CU in function komeda_compiz_set_input and check it with function komeda_component_check_input, the parameter idx is equal to normailzed_zpos minus max_slave_zorder, the value of idx is 5 and is euqal to CU's max_active_inputs, so that komeda_component_check_input returns a -EINVAL value. To fix the bug described above, when calculating the max_slave_zorder with the layer_split enabled, count the split layer in this calculation directly. 2022-08-03drm/gem: rename struct drm_gem_dma_object.{paddr => dma_addr}Danilo Krummrich3-9/+9
The field paddr of struct drm_gem_dma_object holds a DMA address, which might actually be a physical address. However, depending on the platform, it can also be a bus address or a virtual address managed by an IOMMU. Hence, rename the field to dma_addr, which is more applicable. In order to do this renaming the following coccinelle script was used: ``` @@ struct drm_gem_dma_object *gem; @@ - gem->paddr + gem->dma_addr @@ struct drm_gem_dma_object gem; @@ - gem.paddr + gem.dma_addr @exists@ typedef dma_addr_t; symbol paddr; @@ dma_addr_t paddr; <... - paddr + dma_addr ...> @@ symbol paddr; @@ dma_addr_t - paddr + dma_addr ; ``` This patch is compile-time tested with: ``` make ARCH={x86_64,arm,arm64} allyesconfig make ARCH={x86_64,arm,arm64} drivers/gpu/drm` ``` Acked-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org> Suggested-by: Laurent Pinchart <laurent.pinchart@ideasonboard.com> Reviewed-by: Laurent Pinchart <laurent.pinchart@ideasonboard.com> Signed-off-by: Danilo Krummrich <dakr@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20220802000405.949236-5-dakr@redhat.com
2022-08-03drm/gem: rename GEM CMA helpers to GEM DMA helpersDanilo Krummrich9-29/+29
Rename "GEM CMA" helpers to "GEM DMA" helpers - considering the hierarchy of APIs (mm/cma -> dma -> gem dma) calling them "GEM DMA" seems to be more applicable. Besides that, commit e57924d4ae80 ("drm/doc: Task to rename CMA helpers") requests to rename the CMA helpers and implies that people seem to be confused about the naming. In order to do this renaming the following script was used: ``` #!/bin/bash DIRS="drivers/gpu include/drm Documentation/gpu" REGEX_SYM_UPPER="[0-9A-Z_\-]" REGEX_SYM_LOWER="[0-9a-z_\-]" REGEX_GREP_UPPER="(${REGEX_SYM_UPPER}*)(GEM)_CMA_(${REGEX_SYM_UPPER}*)" REGEX_GREP_LOWER="(${REGEX_SYM_LOWER}*)(gem)_cma_(${REGEX_SYM_LOWER}*)" REGEX_SED_UPPER="s/${REGEX_GREP_UPPER}/\1\2_DMA_\3/g" REGEX_SED_LOWER="s/${REGEX_GREP_LOWER}/\1\2_dma_\3/g" # Find all upper case 'CMA' symbols and replace them with 'DMA'. for ff in $(grep -REHl "${REGEX_GREP_UPPER}" $DIRS) do sed -i -E "$REGEX_SED_UPPER" $ff done # Find all lower case 'cma' symbols and replace them with 'dma'. for ff in $(grep -REHl "${REGEX_GREP_LOWER}" $DIRS) do sed -i -E "$REGEX_SED_LOWER" $ff done # Replace all occurrences of 'CMA' / 'cma' in comments and # documentation files with 'DMA' / 'dma'. for ff in $(grep -RiHl " cma " $DIRS) do sed -i -E "s/ cma / dma /g" $ff sed -i -E "s/ CMA / DMA /g" $ff done # Rename all 'cma_obj's to 'dma_obj'. for ff in $(grep -RiHl "cma_obj" $DIRS) do sed -i -E "s/cma_obj/dma_obj/g" $ff done ``` Only a few more manual modifications were needed, e.g. reverting the following modifications in some DRM Kconfig files - select CMA if HAVE_DMA_CONTIGUOUS + select DMA if HAVE_DMA_CONTIGUOUS as well as manually picking the occurrences of 'CMA'/'cma' in comments and documentation which relate to "GEM CMA", but not "FB CMA". 2022-08-03drm/fb: rename FB CMA helpers to FB DMA helpersDanilo Krummrich4-10/+10
Rename "FB CMA" helpers to "FB DMA" helpers - considering the hierarchy of APIs (mm/cma -> dma -> fb dma) calling them "FB DMA" seems to be more applicable. Besides that, commit e57924d4ae80 ("drm/doc: Task to rename CMA helpers") requests to rename the CMA helpers and implies that people seem to be confused about the naming. In order to do this renaming the following script was used: ``` #!/bin/bash DIRS="drivers/gpu include/drm Documentation/gpu" REGEX_SYM_UPPER="[0-9A-Z_\-]" REGEX_SYM_LOWER="[0-9a-z_\-]" REGEX_GREP_UPPER="(${REGEX_SYM_UPPER}*)(FB)_CMA_(${REGEX_SYM_UPPER}*)" REGEX_GREP_LOWER="(${REGEX_SYM_LOWER}*)(fb)_cma_(${REGEX_SYM_LOWER}*)" REGEX_SED_UPPER="s/${REGEX_GREP_UPPER}/\1\2_DMA_\3/g" REGEX_SED_LOWER="s/${REGEX_GREP_LOWER}/\1\2_dma_\3/g" # Find all upper case 'CMA' symbols and replace them with 'DMA'. for ff in $(grep -REHl "${REGEX_GREP_UPPER}" $DIRS) do sed -i -E "$REGEX_SED_UPPER" $ff done # Find all lower case 'cma' symbols and replace them with 'dma'. for ff in $(grep -REHl "${REGEX_GREP_LOWER}" $DIRS) do sed -i -E "$REGEX_SED_LOWER" $ff done # Replace all occurrences of 'CMA' / 'cma' in comments and # documentation files with 'DMA' / 'dma'. for ff in $(grep -RiHl " cma " $DIRS) do sed -i -E "s/ cma / dma /g" $ff sed -i -E "s/ CMA / DMA /g" $ff done ``` Only a few more manual modifications were needed, e.g. reverting the following modifications in some DRM Kconfig files - select CMA if HAVE_DMA_CONTIGUOUS + select DMA if HAVE_DMA_CONTIGUOUS as well as manually picking the occurrences of 'CMA'/'cma' in comments and documentation which relate to "FB CMA", but not "GEM CMA". 2022-07-22drm/komeda: Fix handling of atomic commits in the atomic_commit_tail hookLiviu Dudau3-3/+24
Komeda driver relies on the generic DRM atomic helper functions to handle commits. It only implements an atomic_commit_tail hook for the mode_config_helper_funcs and even that one is pretty close to the generic implementation with the exception of additional dma_fence signalling. What the generic helper framework doesn't do is waiting for the actual hardware to signal that the commit parameters have been written into the appropriate registers. As we signal CRTC events only on the irq handlers, we need to flush the configuration and wait for the hardware to respond. Add the Komeda specific implementation for atomic_commit_hw_done() that flushes and waits for flip done before calling drm_atomic_helper_commit_hw_done(). The fix was prompted by a patch from Carsten Haitzler where he was trying to solve the same issue but in a different way that I think can lead to wrong event signaling to userspace. 2022-07-22drm/komeda - At init write GCU control block to handle already on DPUCarsten Haitzler1-2/+1
If something has already set up the DPU before the komeda driver comes up, it will fail to init because it was just writing to the SRST bit in the GCU control register and ignoring others. This resulted in TBU bringup stalling and init failing. By writing completely we also set the mode back to 0 (inactive) too and thus TBU bringup works. 2022-07-22drm/arm/hdlcd: Simplify IRQ install/uninstallRobin Murphy1-45/+15
Since we no longer need to conform to the structure of the various DRM IRQ callbacks, we can streamline the code by consolidating the piecemeal functions and passing around our private data structure directly. We're also a platform device so should never see IRQ_NOTCONNECTED either. Furthermore we can also get rid of all the unnecesary read-modify-write operations, since on install we know we cleared the whole interrupt mask before enabling the debug IRQs, and thus on uninstall we're always clearing everything as well. 2022-07-22drm/arm/hdlcd: Take over EFI framebuffer properlyRobin Murphy1-0/+10
The Arm Juno board EDK2 port has provided an EFI GOP display via HDLCD0 for some time now, which works nicely as an early framebuffer. However, once the HDLCD driver probes and takes over the hardware, it should take over the logical framebuffer as well, otherwise the now-defunct GOP device hangs about and virtual console output inevitably disappears into the wrong place most of the time. We'll do this after binding the HDMI encoder, since that's the most likely thing to fail, and the EFI console is still better than nothing when that happens. However, the two HDLCD controllers on Juno are independent, and many users will still be using older firmware without any display support, so we'll only bother if we find that the HDLCD we're probing is already enabled. And if it is, then we'll also stop it, since otherwise the display can end up shifted if it's still scanning out while the rest of the registers are subsequently reconfigured. 2022-04-11drm/komeda: Fix an undefined behavior bug in komeda_plane_add()Zhou Qingyang1-0/+4
In komeda_plane_add(), komeda_get_layer_fourcc_list() is assigned to formats and used in drm_universal_plane_init(). drm_universal_plane_init() passes formats to __drm_universal_plane_init(). __drm_universal_plane_init() further passes formats to memcpy() as src parameter, which could lead to an undefined behavior bug on failure of komeda_get_layer_fourcc_list(). Fix this bug by adding a check of formats. This bug was found by a static analyzer. The analysis employs differential checking to identify inconsistent security operations (e.g., checks or kfrees) between two code paths and confirms that the inconsistent operations are not recovered in the current function or the callers, so they constitute bugs. Note that, as a bug found by static analysis, it can be a false positive or hard to trigger. Multiple researchers have cross-reviewed the bug. Builds with CONFIG_DRM_KOMEDA=m show no new warnings, and our static analyzer no longer warns about this code. komeda_plane_reset() does the state initialisation by copying a lot of the code found in the __drm_atomic_helper_plane_reset(). Let's switch to that helper and reduce the boilerplate. 2021-08-10drm/arm/hdlcd: Convert to Linux IRQ interfacesThomas Zimmermann2-78/+97
Drop the DRM IRQ midlayer in favor of Linux IRQ interfaces. DRM's IRQ helpers are mostly useful for UMS drivers. Modern KMS drivers don't benefit from using it. DRM IRQ callbacks are now being called directly or inlined. Calls to platform_get_irq() can fail with a negative errno code. Abort initialization in this case. The DRM IRQ midlayer does not handle this case correctly. v2: * name struct drm_device variables 'drm' (Sam) Signed-off-by: Thomas Zimmermann <tzimmermann@suse.de> Acked-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20210803090704.32152-3-tzimmermann@suse.de
