According to section 5.3.6.2 (Multiport Device Operation) of the virtio spec(version 1.2) a control buffer with the event VIRTIO_CONSOLE_RESIZE is followed by a virtio_console_resize struct containing cols then rows. The kernel implements this the wrong way around (rows then cols) resulting in the two values being swapped. commit 82d12088c297fa1cef670e1718b3d24f414c23f7 upstream. Discovered by Atuin - Automated Vulnerability Discovery Engine. In ac_ioctl, the validation of IndexCard and the check for a valid RamIO pointer are skipped when cmd is 6. However, the function unconditionally executes readb(apbs[IndexCard].RamIO + VERS) at the end. If cmd is 6, IndexCard may reference a board that does not exist (where RamIO is NULL), leading to a NULL pointer dereference. Fix this by skipping the readb access when cmd is 6, as this command is a global information query and does not target a specific board context. 5 daysipmi: Fix the race between __scan_channels() and deliver_response()Jinhui Guo1-2/+0
[ Upstream commit 936750fdba4c45e13bbd17f261bb140dd55f5e93 ] The race window between __scan_channels() and deliver_response() causes the parameters of some channels to be set to 0. 1.[CPUA] __scan_channels() issues an IPMI request and waits with wait_event() until all channels have been scanned. wait_event() internally calls might_sleep(), which might yield the CPU. (Moreover, an interrupt can preempt wait_event() and force the task to yield the CPU.) 2.[CPUB] deliver_response() is invoked when the CPU receives the IPMI response. After processing a IPMI response, deliver_response() directly assigns intf->wchannels to intf->channel_list and sets intf->channels_ready to true. However, not all channels are actually ready for use. 3.[CPUA] Since intf->channels_ready is already true, wait_event() never enters __wait_event(). __scan_channels() immediately clears intf->null_user_handler and exits. 4.[CPUB] Once intf->null_user_handler is set to NULL, deliver_response() ignores further IPMI responses, leaving the remaining channels zero-initialized and unusable. This can flood system logs in large deployments. Replace dev_warn() with dev_warn_ratelimited() to throttle these warnings and prevent log spam during BMC maintenance operations. [ Upstream commit 2f661f71fda1fc0c42b7746ca5b7da529eb6b5be ] With some Infineon chips the timeouts in tpm_tis_send_data (both B and C) can reach up to about 2250 ms. Timeout C is retried since commit de9e33df7762 ("tpm, tpm_tis: Workaround failed command reception on Infineon devices") Timeout B still needs to be extended. The problem is most commonly encountered with context related operation such as load context/save context. These are issued directly by the kernel, and there is no retry logic for them. When a filesystem is set up to use the TPM for unlocking the boot fails, and restarting the userspace service is ineffective. This is likely because ignoring a load context/save context result puts the real TPM state and the TPM state expected by the kernel out of sync. 2025-05-02virtio_console: fix missing byte order handling for cols and rowsHalil Pasic1-3/+4
commit fbd3039a64b01b769040677c4fc68badeca8e3b2 upstream. As per virtio spec the fields cols and rows are specified as little endian. Although there is no legacy interface requirement that would state that cols and rows need to be handled as native endian when legacy interface is used, unlike for the fields of the adjacent struct virtio_console_control, I decided to err on the side of caution based on some non-conclusive virtio spec repo archaeology and opt for using virtio16_to_cpu() much like for virtio_console_control.event. Strictly by the letter of the spec virtio_le_to_cpu() would have been sufficient. But when the legacy interface is not used, it boils down to the same. And when using the legacy interface, the device formatting these as little endian when the guest is big endian would surprise me more than it using guest native byte order (which would make it compatible with the current implementation). Nevertheless somebody trying to implement the spec following it to the letter could end up forcing little endian byte order when the legacy interface is in use. So IMHO this ultimately needs a judgement call by the maintainers. A control vq callback will then try to schedule control_work which has not been initialized yet. Similarly for config interrupt. Further, in and out vq callbacks invoke find_port_by_vq which attempts to take ports_lock which also has not been initialized. To fix, init all locks and work before creating vqs. This unfortunately turned the RNG into a constant number generator, depending on the content of what was at that offset. To fix this, update geode_rng_data_{read,present}() to also get the membase via amd_geode_priv, and properly read from the right addresses again. This happens after the driver's remove function is called. However, nomadik's clock is disabled in the remove function. There's a short timeframe where nomadik is still registered with the hwrng core although its clock is disabled. I suppose the clock must be active to access the hardware and serve requests from the hwrng core. Switch to devm_clk_get_enabled and let devres disable the clock and unregister the hwrng. This avoids the race condition. Adding the return value directly to the total number of received bytes therefore looks a little weird, since it might add a negative error code to a sum of bytes. The following check for size < expected usually makes the function return ETIME in that case, so it does not cause too many problems in practice. But to make the code look cleaner and because the caller might still be interested in the original error code, explicitly check for the presence of an error code and pass that through. [ Upstream commit ac52578d6e8d300dd50f790f29a24169b1edd26c ] The virtio rng device kicks off a new entropy request whenever the data available reaches zero. When a new request occurs at the end of a read operation, that is, when the result of that request is only needed by the next reader, then there is a race between the writing of the new data and the next reader. This is because there is no synchronisation whatsoever between the writer and the reader. Fix this by writing data_avail with smp_store_release and reading it with smp_load_acquire when we first enter read. The subsequent reads are safe because they're either protected by the first load acquire, or by the completion mechanism. Also remove the redundant zeroing of data_idx in random_recv_done (data_idx must already be zero at this point) and data_avail in request_entropy (ditto). But now, as the buffer is internal to the virtio-rng we can release the waiting loop immediately, the buffer will be retrieve and use when the virtio-rng driver will be selected again. This avoids to hang on an rng_current write command if the virtio-rng device is blocked by a lack of entropy. This allows to select another entropy source if the current one is empty. If the buffer is provided with wait=0 it is enqueued in the virtio-rng queue but unused by the caller. On the next call, core provides another buffer but the first one is filled instead and the new one queued. And the caller reads the data from the new one that is not updated, and the data in the first one are lost. To avoid this mix, virtio-rng needs to use its own unique internal buffer at a cost of a data copy to the caller buffer. Also release the locality if the counter is 0 otherwise only decrement the counter. Since in case of SPI the register accesses are locked by means of the SPI bus mutex use a sleepable lock (i.e. also a mutex) to ensure thread-safety of the counter which may be accessed by both a userspace thread and the interrupt handler. By doing this refactor the names of the amended functions to use a more appropriate prefix.
