2011-02-23tty: move obsolete and broken tty drivers to drivers/staging/tty/Greg Kroah-Hartman1-4507/+0
As planned by Arnd Bergmann, this moves the following drivers to the drivers/staging/tty/ directory where they will be removed after 2.6.41 if no one steps up to claim them. epca epca ip2 istallion riscom8 serial167 specialix stallion Cc: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Cc: Alan Cox <alan@lxorguk.ukuu.org.uk> Cc: Jiri Slaby <jslaby@suse.cz> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
2011-02-17tty: now phase out the ioctl file pointer for goodAlan Cox1-2/+2
Only oddities here are a couple of drivers that bogusly called the ldisc helpers instead of returning -ENOIOCTLCMD. Fix the bug and the rest goes away. Signed-off-by: Alan Cox <alan@linux.intel.com> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
2011-02-17tiocmset: kill the file pointer argumentAlan Cox1-1/+1
Doing tiocmget was such fun we should do tiocmset as well for the same reasons Signed-off-by: Alan Cox <alan@linux.intel.com> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
2011-02-17tiocmget: kill off the passing of the struct fileAlan Cox1-1/+1
We don't actually need this and it causes problems for internal use of this functionality. Currently there is a single use of the FILE * pointer. That is the serial core which uses it to check tty_hung_up_p. However if that is true then IO_ERROR is also already set so the check may be removed. Signed-off-by: Alan Cox <alan@linux.intel.com> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
2010-11-17BKL: remove extraneous #include <smp_lock.h>Arnd Bergmann1-1/+0
The big kernel lock has been removed from all these files at some point, leaving only the #include. Remove this too as a cleanup. Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2010-10-15llseek: automatically add .llseek fopArnd Bergmann1-0/+1
All file_operations should get a .llseek operation so we can make nonseekable_open the default for future file operations without a .llseek pointer. The three cases that we can automatically detect are no_llseek, seq_lseek and default_llseek. For cases where we can we can automatically prove that the file offset is always ignored, we use noop_llseek, which maintains the current behavior of not returning an error from a seek. New drivers should normally not use noop_llseek but instead use no_llseek and call nonseekable_open at open time. Existing drivers can be converted to do the same when the maintainer knows for certain that no user code relies on calling seek on the device file. The generated code is often incorrectly indented and right now contains comments that clarify for each added line why a specific variant was chosen. In the version that gets submitted upstream, the comments will be gone and I will manually fix the indentation, because there does not seem to be a way to do that using coccinelle. Some amount of new code is currently sitting in linux-next that should get the same modifications, which I will do at the end of the merge window. Many thanks to Julia Lawall for helping me learn to write a semantic patch that does all this. ===== begin semantic patch ===== // This adds an llseek= method to all file operations, // as a preparation for making no_llseek the default. // // The rules are // - use no_llseek explicitly if we do nonseekable_open // - use seq_lseek for sequential files // - use default_llseek if we know we access f_pos // - use noop_llseek if we know we don't access f_pos, // but we still want to allow users to call lseek // @ open1 exists @ identifier nested_open; @@ nested_open(...) { <+... nonseekable_open(...) ...+> } @ open exists@ identifier open_f; identifier i, f; identifier open1.nested_open; @@ int open_f(struct inode *i, struct file *f) { <+... 2010-08-11tty: introduce wait_event_interruptible_ttyArnd Bergmann1-4/+8

The istallion still has brd state races but those are not new or introduced by the removal of the lock_kernel logic. 2009-06-20istallion: add missing __devexit markingMike Frysinger1-1/+1

2009-06-11tty: Add carrier processing on close to the tty_port coreAlan Cox1-4/+4
Some drivers implement this internally, others miss it out. Push the behaviour into the core code as that way everyone will do it consistently. Update the dtr rts method to raise or lower depending upon flags. Having a single method in this style fits most of the implementations more cleanly than two funtions. We need this in place before we tackle the USB side Signed-off-by: Alan Cox <alan@lxorguk.ukuu.org.uk> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

2006-12-08[PATCH] Char: istallion, remove the messJiri Slaby1-170/+36
- remove unneeded license text - remove functions, that are implemented in kernel -- call them (strtoul, min, tolower) - do not cast NULL - there is no static table, throw away code, which takes care of it -- find module param cards in that place instead.
