commit 359afc8eb02a518fbdd0cbd462c8c2827c6cbec2 upstream.
Commit 89d9cec3b1e9 ("PM: runtime: Clear power.needs_force_resume in
pm_runtime_reinit()") added provisional clearing of power.needs_force_resume
to pm_runtime_reinit(), but it is done unconditionally which is a
mistake because pm_runtime_reinit() may race with driver probing
and removal [1].
To address this, notice that power.needs_force_resume should never
be set when runtime PM is enabled and so it only needs to be cleared
when runtime PM is disabled, and update pm_runtime_init() to only
clear that flag when runtime PM is disabled.

If system suspend is aborted in the "noirq" phase (for instance, due to
an error returned by one of the device callbacks), power.is_noirq_suspended
will not be set for some devices and device_resume_noirq() will return
early for them. Consequently, noirq resume callbacks will not run for
them at all because the noirq suspend callbacks have not run for them
yet.
If any of them has power.must_resume set and late suspend has been
skipped for it (due to power.smart_suspend), early resume should be
skipped for it either, or its state may become inconsistent (for
instance, if the early resume assumes that it will always follow
noirq resume).
Make that happen by clearing power.must_resume in device_resume_noirq()
for devices with power.is_noirq_suspended clear that have been left in
suspend by device_suspend_late(), which will subsequently cause
device_resume_early() to leave the device in suspend and avoid
changing its state.

pm_domain_cpu_gov is selecting a cluster idle state but does not consider
latency tolerance of child CPUs. This results in deeper cluster idle state
whose latency does not meet latency tolerance requirement.
Select deeper idle state only if global and device latency tolerance of all
child CPUs meet.
Test results on SM8750 with 300 usec PM-QoS on CPU0 which is less than
domain idle state entry (2150) + exit (1983) usec latency mentioned in
devicetree, demonstrate the issue.

pm_runtime_put_autosuspend() schedules a hrtimer to expire
at "dev->power.timer_expires". If the hrtimer's callback,
pm_suspend_timer_fn(), observes that the current time equals
"dev->power.timer_expires", it unexpectedly bails out instead of
proceeding with runtime suspend.

Additionally, as ->timer_expires is not cleared, all the future auto
suspend requests will not schedule hrtimer to perform auto suspend.

The error checking for of_count_phandle_with_args() does not handle
negative error codes correctly. The problem is that "index" is a u32 so
in the condition "if (index >= num_domains)" negative error codes stored
in "num_domains" are type promoted to very high positive values and
"index" is always going to be valid.
Test for negative error codes first and then test if "index" is valid.

Commit 03f1444016b7 ("PM: sleep: Fix handling devices with direct_complete
set on errors") caused power.is_suspended to be set for devices with
power.direct_complete set, but it forgot to ensure the clearing of that
flag for them in device_resume(), so power.is_suspended is still set for
them during the next system suspend-resume cycle.
If that cycle is aborted in dpm_suspend(), the subsequent invocation of
dpm_resume() will trigger a device_resume() call for every device and
because power.is_suspended is set for the devices in question, they will
not be skipped by device_resume() as expected which causes scary error
messages to be logged (as appropriate).
To address this issue, move the clearing of power.is_suspended in
device_resume() immediately after the power.is_suspended check so it
will be always cleared for all devices processed by that function.

When dpm_suspend() fails, some devices with power.direct_complete set
may not have been handled by device_suspend() yet, so runtime PM has
not been disabled for them yet even though power.direct_complete is set.
Since device_resume() expects that runtime PM has been disabled for all
devices with power.direct_complete set, it will attempt to reenable
runtime PM for the devices that have not been processed by device_suspend()
which does not make sense. Had those devices had runtime PM disabled
before device_suspend() had run, device_resume() would have inadvertently
enable runtime PM for them, but this is not expected to happen because
it would require ->prepare() callbacks to return positive values for
devices with runtime PM disabled, which would be invalid.
In practice, this issue is most likely benign because pm_runtime_enable()
will not allow the "disable depth" counter to underflow, but it causes a
warning message to be printed for each affected device.
To allow device_resume() to distinguish the "direct complete" devices
that have been processed by device_suspend() from those which have not
been handled by it, make device_suspend() set power.is_suspended for
"direct complete" devices.
Next, move the power.is_suspended check in device_resume() before the
power.direct_complete check in it to make it skip the "direct complete"
devices that have not been handled by device_suspend().
This change is based on a preliminary patch from Saravana Kannan.

does not take power.child_count into account, but it should do that, so
use pm_runtime_need_not_resume() in it for this purpose and adjust the

When driver uses pm_runtime_force_suspend() as the system suspend callback
function and registers the wake irq with reverse enable ordering, the wake
irq will be re-enabled when entering system suspend, triggering an
'Unbalanced enable for IRQ xxx' warning. In this scenario, the call
sequence during system suspend is as follows:
suspend_devices_and_enter()
-> dpm_suspend_start()
-> dpm_run_callback()
-> pm_runtime_force_suspend()
-> dev_pm_enable_wake_irq_check()
-> dev_pm_enable_wake_irq_complete()
-> suspend_enter()
-> dpm_suspend_noirq()
-> device_wakeup_arm_wake_irqs()
-> dev_pm_arm_wake_irq()
To fix this issue, complete the setting of WAKE_IRQ_DEDICATED_ENABLED flag
in dev_pm_enable_wake_irq_complete() to avoid redundant irq enablement.

The PM Runtime docs say:
Drivers in ->remove() callback should undo the runtime PM changes done
in ->probe(). Usually this means calling pm_runtime_disable(),
pm_runtime_dont_use_autosuspend() etc.
>From grepping code, it's clear that many people aren't aware of the
need to call pm_runtime_dont_use_autosuspend().
When brainstorming solutions, one idea that came up was to leverage
the new-ish devm_pm_runtime_enable() function. The idea here is that:
* When the devm action is called we know that the driver is being
removed. It's the perfect time to undo the use_autosuspend.
* The code of pm_runtime_dont_use_autosuspend() already handles the
case of being called when autosuspend wasn't enabled.

A typical code pattern for pm_runtime_enable() call is to call it in the
_probe function and to call pm_runtime_disable() both from _probe error
path and from _remove function. For some drivers the whole remove
function would consist of the call to pm_remove_disable().
Add helper function to replace this bolierplate piece of code. Calling
devm_pm_runtime_enable() removes the need for calling
pm_runtime_disable() both in the probe()'s error path and in the
remove() function.

earlier initcalls time to probe. Do the same to avoid leaving some PDs
dangling at "on" (which actually happened on qcom!).

condition to also break the loop if error is nonzero, which

It is reported that in low-memory situations the system-wide resume core
code deadlocks, because async_schedule_dev() executes its argument
function synchronously if it cannot allocate memory (and not only in
that case) and that function attempts to acquire a mutex that is already
held. Executing the argument function synchronously from within
dpm_async_fn() may also be problematic for ordering reasons (it may
cause a consumer device's resume callback to be invoked before a
requisite supplier device's one, for example).
Address this by changing the code in question to use
async_schedule_dev_nocall() for scheduling the asynchronous
execution of device suspend and resume functions and to directly
run them synchronously if async_schedule_dev_nocall() returns false.

It is generally unsafe to call put_device() with dpm_list_mtx held,
because the given device's release routine may carry out an action
depending on that lock which then may deadlock, so modify the
system-wide suspend and resume of devices to always drop dpm_list_mtx
before calling put_device() (and adjust white space somewhat while
at it).

The decision whether to enable a wake irq during suspend can not be done
based on the runtime PM state directly as a driver may use wake irqs
without implementing runtime PM. Such drivers specifically leave the
state set to the default 'suspended' and the wake irq is thus never
enabled at suspend.
Add a new wake irq flag to track whether a dedicated wake irq has been
enabled at runtime suspend and therefore must not be enabled at system
suspend.
Note that pm_runtime_enabled() can not be used as runtime PM is always
disabled during late suspend.

When the dedicated wake IRQ is level trigger, and it uses the
device's low-power status as the wakeup source, that means if the
device is not in low-power state, the wake IRQ will be triggered
if enabled; For this case, need enable the wake IRQ after running
the device's ->runtime_suspend() which make it enter low-power state.
e.g.
Assume the wake IRQ is a low level trigger type, and the wakeup
signal comes from the low-power status of the device.
The wakeup signal is low level at running time (0), and becomes
high level when the device enters low-power state (runtime_suspend
(1) is called), a wakeup event at (2) make the device exit low-power
state, then the wakeup signal also becomes low level.

Currently, while calculating residency and latency values, right
operands may overflow if resulting values are big enough.
To prevent this, albeit unlikely case, play it safe and convert
right operands to left ones' type s64.
Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with static
analysis tool SVACE.

Calling __rpm_callback() from rpm_idle() after adding device links
support to the former is a clear mistake.
Not only it causes rpm_idle() to carry out unnecessary actions, but it
is also against the assumption regarding the stability of PM-runtime
status across __rpm_callback() invocations, because rpm_suspend() and
rpm_resume() may run in parallel with __rpm_callback() when it is called
by rpm_idle() and the device's PM-runtime status can be updated by any
of them.

When pm_runtime_no_callbacks() has been called for a struct device to set
the dev->power.no_callbacks flag for it, it enables rpm_idle() to take a
slightly quicker path by assuming that a ->runtime_idle() callback would
have returned 0 to indicate success.
A device that does not have the dev->power.no_callbacks flag set for it,
may still be missing a corresponding ->runtime_idle() callback, in which
case the slower path in rpm_idle() is taken. Let's improve the behaviour
for this case, by aligning code to the quicker path.

There are 4 users of mc146818_get_time() and none of them was checking
the return value from this function. Change this.
Print the appropriate warnings in callers of mc146818_get_time() instead
of in the function mc146818_get_time() itself, in order not to add
strings to rtc-mc146818-lib.c, which is kind of a library.
The callers of alpha_rtc_read_time() and cmos_read_time() may use the
contents of (struct rtc_time *) even when the functions return a failure
code. Therefore, set the contents of (struct rtc_time *) to 0x00,
which looks more sensible then 0xff and aligns with the (possibly
stale?) comment in cmos_read_time:

For consistency, do this in mc146818_get_time().
Note: hpet_rtc_interrupt() may call mc146818_get_time() many times a

Platforms can provide the information about the availability of each
idle states via status flag. Platforms may have to disable one or more
idle states for various reasons like broken firmware or other unmet
dependencies.
Fix handling of such unavailable/disabled idle states by ignoring them
while parsing the states.

The function device_pm_check_callbacks() can be called under the spin
lock (in the reported case it happens from genpd_add_device() ->
dev_pm_domain_set(), when the genpd uses spinlocks rather than mutexes.
However this function uncoditionally uses spin_lock_irq() /
spin_unlock_irq(), thus not preserving the CPU flags. Use the
irqsave/irqrestore instead.

After commit e3728b50cd9b ("ACPI: PM: s2idle: Avoid possible race
related to the EC GPE") wakeup interrupts occurring immediately after
the one discarded by acpi_s2idle_wake() may be missed. Moreover, if
the SCI triggers again immediately after the rearming in
acpi_s2idle_wake(), that wakeup may be missed too.
The problem is that pm_system_irq_wakeup() only calls pm_system_wakeup()
when pm_wakeup_irq is 0, but that's not the case any more after the
interrupt causing acpi_s2idle_wake() to run until pm_wakeup_irq is
cleared by the pm_wakeup_clear() call in s2idle_loop(). However,
there may be wakeup interrupts occurring in that time frame and if
that happens, they will be missed.
To address that issue first move the clearing of pm_wakeup_irq to
the point at which it is known that the interrupt causing
acpi_s2idle_wake() to tun will be discarded, before rearming the SCI
for wakeup. Moreover, because that only reduces the size of the
time window in which the issue may manifest itself, allow
pm_system_irq_wakeup() to register two second wakeup interrupts in
a row and, when discarding the first one, replace it with the second
one. [Of course, this assumes that only one wakeup interrupt can be
discarded in one go, but currently that is the case and I am not
aware of any plans to change that.]

Because refcount_dec_not_one() returns true if the target refcount
becomes saturated, it is generally unsafe to use its return value as
a loop termination condition, but that is what happens when a device
link's supplier device is released during runtime PM suspend
operations and on device link removal.
To address this, introduce pm_runtime_release_supplier() to be used
in the above cases which will check the supplier device's runtime
PM usage counter in addition to the refcount_dec_not_one() return
value, so the loop can be terminated in case the rpm_active refcount
value becomes invalid, and update the code in question to use it as
appropriate.
This change is not expected to have any visible functional impact.

There are variables(power.may_skip_resume and dev->power.must_resume)
and DPM_FLAG_MAY_SKIP_RESUME flags to control the resume of devices after
a system wide suspend transition.
Setting the DPM_FLAG_MAY_SKIP_RESUME flag means that the driver allows
its "noirq" and "early" resume callbacks to be skipped if the device
can be left in suspend after a system-wide transition into the working
state. PM core determines that the driver's "noirq" and "early" resume
callbacks should be skipped or not with dev_pm_skip_resume() function by
checking power.may_skip_resume variable.
power.must_resume variable is getting set to false in __device_suspend()
function without checking device's DPM_FLAG_MAY_SKIP_RESUME settings.
In problematic scenario, where all the devices in the suspend_late
stage are successful and some device can fail to suspend in
suspend_noirq phase. So some devices successfully suspended in suspend_late
stage are not getting chance to execute __device_suspend_noirq()
to set dev->power.must_resume variable to true and not getting
resumed in early_resume phase.
Add a check for device's DPM_FLAG_MAY_SKIP_RESUME flag before
setting power.must_resume variable in __device_suspend function.

As pm_runtime_need_not_resume() relies also on usage_count, it can return
a different value in pm_runtime_force_suspend() compared to when called in
pm_runtime_force_resume(). Different return values can happen if anything
calls PM runtime functions in between, and causes the parent child_count
to increase on every resume.
So far I've seen the issue only for omapdrm that does complicated things
with PM runtime calls during system suspend for legacy reasons:

wakes up 58000000.dss as it's the dispc parent

rpm_resume() increases parent child_count

Let's fix the issue by adding a flag for needs_force_resume and use it in
pm_runtime_force_resume() instead of pm_runtime_need_not_resume().
Additionally omapdrm system suspend could be simplified later on to avoid
lots of unnecessary PM runtime calls and the complexity it adds. The
driver can just use internal functions that are shared between the PM
runtime and system suspend related functions.

pm_runtime_put_suppliers() must not decrement rpm_active unless the
consumer is suspended. That is because, otherwise, it could suspend
suppliers for an active consumer.
That can happen as follows:

Because the PM-runtime status of the device is not updated in
__rpm_callback(), attempts to suspend the suppliers of the given
device triggered by the rpm_put_suppliers() call in there may
cause a supplier to be suspended completely before the status of
the consumer is updated to RPM_SUSPENDED, which is confusing.
To avoid that (1) modify __rpm_callback() to only decrease the
PM-runtime usage counter of each supplier and (2) make rpm_suspend()
try to suspend the suppliers after changing the consumer's status to
RPM_SUSPENDED, in analogy with the device's parent.

Because the PM-runtime status of the device is not updated in
__rpm_callback(), attempts to suspend the suppliers of the given
device triggered by rpm_put_suppliers() called by it may fail.
Fix this by making __rpm_callback() update the device's status to
RPM_SUSPENDED before calling rpm_put_suppliers() if the current
status of the device is RPM_SUSPENDING and the callback just invoked
by it has returned 0 (success).
While at it, modify the code in __rpm_callback() to always check
the device's PM-runtime status under its PM lock.

After commit d12544fb2aa9 ("PM: runtime: Remove link state checks in
rpm_get/put_supplier()") nothing prevents the consumer device's
runtime PM from acquiring additional references to the supplier
device after pm_runtime_clean_up_links() has run (or even while it
is running), so calling this function from __device_release_driver()
may be pointless (or even harmful).
Moreover, it ignores stateless device links, so the runtime PM
handling of managed and stateless device links is inconsistent
because of it, so better get rid of it entirely.

While removing a device link, drop the supplier device's runtime PM
usage counter as many times as needed to drop all of the runtime PM
references to it from the consumer in addition to dropping the
consumer's link count.

"First of all, the adaptive voltage scaling (AVS) drivers go to new
platform-specific locations as planned (this part was reported to have
merge conflicts against the new arm-soc updates in linux-next).
In addition to that, there are some fixes (intel_idle, intel_pstate,
RAPL, acpi_cpufreq), the addition of on/off notifiers and idle state
accounting support to the generic power domains (genpd) code and some

- Avoid unnecessary resets of the cached frequency in the schedutil
cpufreq governor to reduce overhead (Wei Wang).
- Clean up the cpufreq core a bit (Viresh Kumar).

The __raw_notifier_call_chain() was recently removed and replaced with
raw_notifier_call_chain_robust(). Recent changes to genpd didn't take that
into account, which causes a build error. Let's fix this by converting to
the raw_notifier_call_chain_robust() in genpd.

To enable better debug of PM domains, keep a track of successful
and failing attempts to enter each domain idle state.
This statistics are exported in debugfs when reading the
idle_states node associated with each PM domain.

There is not strict need to group a comment and a single statement in an

A device may have specific HW constraints that must be obeyed to, before
its corresponding PM domain (genpd) can be powered off - and vice verse at
power on. These constraints can't be managed through the regular runtime PM
based deployment for a device, because the access pattern for it, isn't
always request based. In other words, using the runtime PM callbacks to
deal with the constraints doesn't work for these cases.
For these reasons, let's instead add a PM domain power on/off notification
mechanism to genpd. To add/remove a notifier for a device, the device must
already have been attached to the genpd, which also means that it needs to
be a part of the PM domain topology.
To add/remove a notifier, let's introduce two genpd specific functions:
- dev_pm_genpd_add|remove_notifier()
Note that, to further clarify when genpd power on/off notifiers may be
used, one can compare with the existing CPU_CLUSTER_PM_ENTER|EXIT
notifiers. In the long run, the genpd power on/off notifiers should be able
to replace them, but that requires additional genpd based platform support
for the current users.
