[ Upstream commit 533a0b940f901c15e5cbbd4b5d66e871c209e8ce ]
ata_dev_config_cpr() takes the number of range descriptors from buf[0]
of the concurrent positioning ranges log (up to 255), which the device
reports independently of the log size in the GPL directory. The count is
then walked at a fixed 32-byte stride in two places with no bound: the
log read here, and the INQUIRY VPD page B9h emitter, which writes one
descriptor per range into the fixed 2048-byte ata_scsi_rbuf. A device
reporting a count larger than its own log overflows the read buffer (up
to 7704 bytes past a 512-byte slab), and a count above 62 overflows the
response buffer on the emit side.
Bound the count once, on probe, against both the log the device returned
and the number of descriptors the VPD B9h response buffer can hold
(ATA_DEV_MAX_CPR, derived from the rbuf size). Reject an out-of-range
count with a warning; this keeps the emitter in bounds with no separate
change there.

The hand-rolled bit-scanning loop in the NCQ completion path has an
infinite loop bug. When tag_mask has only high bits set (e.g.
0x80000000), the inner while loop left-shifts tag_mask until it
overflows to 0. At that point !(0 & 1) is always true and 0 <<= 1
stays 0, causing an infinite loop in hardirq context with a spinlock
held.
Replace the open-coded bit-scanning with __ffs() which correctly
finds the least significant set bit and is bounded by the width of
the argument.

clear_interrupt_bit() ignores the bit argument and performs a
read-write-back of the entire INTPR register. If INTPR uses standard
Write-1-to-Clear semantics, this clears every pending interrupt bit,
not just the intended one. Coalesced interrupts (e.g. DMAT + NEWFP)
would be cleared together, silently losing the second event.
Write only the specific bit to clear so that other pending interrupts
are preserved.

sata_dwc_enable_interrupts() is called before platform_get_irq() and
ata_host_activate(), leaving the SATA controller's interrupt mask
enabled without a registered handler. If a later step fails (irq
request, phy init, etc.) or if the controller asserts an interrupt
during probe, the irq line may fire with no handler, causing a
spurious interrupt storm.
Move sata_dwc_enable_interrupts() after ata_host_activate() so that
interrupts are only unmasked once the handler is registered and the
core is fully initialized.

leaking the channel reference.
Fix by adding dma_release_channel() in the error path.

Some but not all ata_exec_internal() calls happen from the context of
the ATA error handler. Commit c0c362b60e25 ("libata: implement cross-port
EH exclusion") added ata_eh_release() and ata_eh_acquire() calls in
ata_exec_internal(). Calling these functions is necessary if the caller
holds the eh_mutex but is not allowed if the caller doesn't hold that
mutex. Fix this by only calling ata_eh_release() and ata_eh_acquire() if
the caller holds the eh_mutex. An example of an indirect caller of
ata_exec_internal() that does not hold the eh_mutex is

[ Upstream commit 105c42566a550e2d05fc14f763216a8765ee5d0e ]
The JMicron JMB585 (and JMB582) SATA controllers advertise 64-bit DMA
support via the S64A bit in the AHCI CAP register, but their 64-bit DMA
implementation is defective. Under sustained I/O, DMA transfers targeting
addresses above 4GB silently corrupt data -- writes land at incorrect
memory addresses with no errors logged.
The failure pattern is similar to the ASMedia ASM1061
(commit 20730e9b2778 ("ahci: add 43-bit DMA address quirk for ASMedia
ASM1061 controllers")), which also falsely advertised full 64-bit DMA
support. However, the JMB585 requires a stricter 32-bit DMA mask rather
than 43-bit, as corruption occurs with any address above 4GB.
On the Minisforum N5 Pro specifically, the combination of the JMB585's
broken 64-bit DMA with the AMD Family 1Ah (Strix Point) IOMMU causes
silent data corruption that is only detectable via checksumming
filesystems (BTRFS/ZFS scrub). The corruption occurs when 32-bit IOVA
space is exhausted and the kernel transparently switches to 64-bit DMA
addresses.
Add device-specific PCI ID entries for the JMB582 (0x0582) and JMB585
(0x0585) before the generic JMicron class match, using a new board type
that combines AHCI_HFLAG_IGN_IRQ_IF_ERR (preserving existing behavior)
with AHCI_HFLAG_32BIT_ONLY to force 32-bit DMA masks.

[ Upstream commit 151cabd140322205e27dae5c4bbf261ede0056e3 ]
When a SATA DAS enclosure is connected behind a Thunderbolt PCIe
switch, hot-unplugging the whole enclosure causes pciehp to tear down
the PCI hierarchy before the SCSI layer issues SYNCHRONIZE CACHE and
START STOP UNIT for the disks.
libata still queues these commands and the AHCI driver tries to access
the HBA registers even though the PCI channel is already offline. This
results in a series of timeouts and error recovery attempts, e.g.:
[ 824.778346] pcieport 0000:00:07.0: pciehp: Slot(14): Link Down
[ 891.612720] ata8.00: qc timeout after 5000 msecs (cmd 0xec)

[ 1050.890035] sd 0:0:0:0: [sdb] Synchronize Cache(10) failed:
Result: hostbyte=DID_BAD_TARGET driverbyte=DRIVER_OK
With this patch applied, the same hot-unplug looks like:
[ 59.965496] pcieport 0000:00:07.0: pciehp: Slot(14): Link Down
[ 60.002502] sd 7:0:0:0: [sda] Synchronize Cache(10) failed:
Result: hostbyte=DID_BAD_TARGET driverbyte=DRIVER_OK
...
[ 60.103050] sd 0:0:0:0: [sdb] Synchronize Cache(10) failed:
Result: hostbyte=DID_BAD_TARGET driverbyte=DRIVER_OK
In this test setup with two disks, the hot-unplug sequence shrinks from
about 226 seconds (~3.8 minutes) between the Link Down event and the
last SYNCHRONIZE CACHE failure to under a second. Without this patch the
total delay grows roughly with the number of disks, because each disk
gets its own SYNCHRONIZE CACHE and qc timeout series.
If the underlying PCI device is already gone, these commands cannot
succeed anyway. Avoid issuing them by introducing
ata_adapter_is_online(), which checks pci_channel_offline() for
PCI-based hosts. It is used from ata_scsi_find_dev() to return NULL,
causing the SCSI layer to fail new commands with DID_BAD_TARGET
immediately, and from ata_qc_issue() to bail out before touching the
HBA registers.
Since such failures would otherwise trigger libata error handling,
ata_adapter_is_online() is also consulted from ata_scsi_port_error_handler().
When the adapter is offline, libata skips ap->ops->error_handler(ap) and
completes error handling using the existing path, rather than running
a full EH sequence against a dead adapter.
With this change, SYNCHRONIZE CACHE and START STOP UNIT commands
issued during hot-unplug fail quickly once the PCI channel is offline,
without qc timeout spam or long libata EH delays.

commit b11890683380a36b8488229f818d5e76e8204587 upstream.
Commit cf3fc037623c ("ata: libata-scsi: Fix ata_to_sense_error() status
handling") fixed ata_to_sense_error() to properly generate sense key
ABORTED COMMAND (without any additional sense code), instead of the
previous bogus sense key ILLEGAL REQUEST with the additional sense code
UNALIGNED WRITE COMMAND, for a failed command.
However, this broke suspend for Security locked drives (drives that have
Security enabled, and have not been Security unlocked by boot firmware).
The reason for this is that the SCSI disk driver, for the Synchronize
Cache command only, treats any sense data with sense key ILLEGAL REQUEST
as a successful command (regardless of ASC / ASCQ).
After commit cf3fc037623c ("ata: libata-scsi: Fix ata_to_sense_error()
status handling") the code that treats any sense data with sense key
ILLEGAL REQUEST as a successful command is no longer applicable, so the
command fails, which causes the system suspend to be aborted:
sd 1:0:0:0: PM: dpm_run_callback(): scsi_bus_suspend returns -5
sd 1:0:0:0: PM: failed to suspend async: error -5
PM: Some devices failed to suspend, or early wake event detected
To make suspend work once again, for a Security locked device only,
return sense data LOGICAL UNIT ACCESS NOT AUTHORIZED, the actual sense
data which a real SCSI device would have returned if locked.
The SCSI disk driver treats this sense data as a successful command.

Commit d2be9ea9a75550a35c5127a6c2633658bc38c76b upstream.
ata_gen_ata_sense() is always called for a failed qc missing sense data
so that a sense key, code and code qualifier can be generated using
ata_to_sense_error() from the qc status and error fields of its result

ata_gen_ata_sense() returns early without setting a sense key.
Improve this by defaulting to returning ABORTED COMMAND without any

commit 58768b0563916ddcb73d8ed26ede664915f8df31 upstream.
Delete extra checks for the ATA_DFLAG_CDL_ENABLED flag that prevent
SET FEATURES command from being issued to a drive when NCQ commands
are active.
ata_mselect_control_ata_feature() sets / clears the ATA_DFLAG_CDL_ENABLED
flag during the translation of MODE SELECT to SET FEATURES. If SET FEATURES
gets deferred due to outstanding NCQ commands, the original MODE SELECT
command will be re-queued. When the re-queued MODE SELECT goes through
the ata_mselect_control_ata_feature() translation again, SET FEATURES
will not be issued because ATA_DFLAG_CDL_ENABLED has been already set or
cleared by the initial translation of MODE SELECT.
The ATA_DFLAG_CDL_ENABLED checks in ata_mselect_control_ata_feature()
are safe to remove because scsi_cdl_enable() implements a similar logic
that avoids enabling CDL if it has been enabled already.

Commit 8ae720449fca ("libata: whitespace fixes in ata_to_sense_error()")
inadvertantly added the entry 0x40 (ATA_DRDY) to the stat_table array in
the function ata_to_sense_error(). This entry ties a failed qc which has
a status filed equal to ATA_DRDY to the sense key ILLEGAL REQUEST with
the additional sense code UNALIGNED WRITE COMMAND. This entry will be
used to generate a failed qc sense key and sense code when the qc is
missing sense data and there is no match for the qc error field in the
sense_table array of ata_to_sense_error().
As a result, for a failed qc for which we failed to get sense data (e.g.
read log 10h failed if qc is an NCQ command, or REQUEST SENSE EXT
command failed for the non-ncq case, the user very often end up seeing
the completely misleading "unaligned write command" error, even if qc
was not a write command. E.g.:
sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] tag#12 FAILED Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_OK cmd_age=0s
sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] tag#12 Sense Key : Illegal Request [current]
sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] tag#12 Add. Sense: Unaligned write command
sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] tag#12 CDB: Read(10) 28 00 00 00 10 00 00 00 08 00
I/O error, dev sda, sector 4096 op 0x0:(READ) flags 0x80700 phys_seg 1 prio class 0
Fix this by removing the ATA_DRDY entry from the stat_table array so
that we default to always returning ABORTED COMMAND without any
additional sense code, since we do not know any better. The entry 0x08
(ATA_DRQ) is also removed since signaling ABORTED COMMAND with a parity
error is also misleading (as a parity error would likely be signaled
through a bus error). So for this case, also default to returning
ABORTED COMMAND without any additional sense code. With this, the
previous example error case becomes:
sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] tag#17 FAILED Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_OK cmd_age=0s
sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] tag#17 Sense Key : Aborted Command [current]
sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] tag#17 Add. Sense: No additional sense information
sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] tag#17 CDB: Read(10) 28 00 00 00 10 00 00 00 08 00
I/O error, dev sda, sector 4096 op 0x0:(READ) flags 0x80700 phys_seg 1 prio class 0
Together with these fixes, refactor stat_table to make it more readable
by putting the entries comments in front of the entries and using the
defined status bits macros instead of hardcoded values.

[ Upstream commit 33877220b8641b4cde474a4229ea92c0e3637883 ]
On at least an ASRock 990FX Extreme 4 with a VIA VT6330, the devices
have not yet been enabled by the first time ata_acpi_cbl_80wire() is
called. This means that the ata_for_each_dev loop is never entered,
and a 40 wire cable is assumed.
The VIA controller on this board does not report the cable in the PCI
config space, thus having to fall back to ACPI even though no SATA
bridge is present.
The _GTM values are correctly reported by the firmware through ACPI,
which has already set up faster transfer modes, but due to the above
the controller is forced down to a maximum of UDMA/33.
Resolve this by modifying ata_acpi_cbl_80wire() to directly return the
cable type. First, an unknown cable is assumed which preserves the mode
set by the firmware, and then on subsequent calls when the devices have
been enabled, an 80 wire cable is correctly detected.
Since the function now directly returns the cable type, it is renamed
to ata_acpi_cbl_pata_type().

commit d29fc02caad7f94b62d56ee1b01c954f9c961ba7 upstream.
The controller has a hardware bug that can hard hang the system when
doing ATAPI DMAs without any trace of what happened. Depending on the
device attached, it can also prevent the system from booting.
In this case, the system hangs when reading the ATIP from optical media
with cdrecord -vvv -atip on an _NEC DVD_RW ND-4571A 1-01 and an
Optiarc DVD RW AD-7200A 1.06 attached to an ASRock 990FX Extreme 4,
running at UDMA/33.
The issue can be reproduced by running the same command with a cygwin
build of cdrecord on WinXP, although it requires more attempts to cause
it. The hang in that case is also resolved by forcing PIO. It doesn't
appear that VIA has produced any drivers for that OS, thus no known
workaround exists.
HDDs attached to the controller do not suffer from any DMA issues.

commit 88474ad734fb2000805c63e01cc53ea930adf2c7 upstream.
For the ATA features subpage of the control mode page, the T10 SAT-6
specifications state that:
For a MODE SENSE command, the SATL shall return the CDL_CTRL field value
that was last set by an application client.
However, the function ata_msense_control_ata_feature() always sets the
CDL_CTRL field to the 0x02 value to indicate support for the CDL T2A and
T2B pages. This is thus incorrect and the value 0x02 must be reported
only after the user enables the CDL feature, which is indicated with the
ATA_DFLAG_CDL_ENABLED device flag. When this flag is not set, the
CDL_CTRL field of the ATA feature subpage of the control mode page must
report a value of 0x00.
Fix ata_msense_control_ata_feature() to report the correct values for
the CDL_CTRL field, according to the enable/disable state of the device
CDL feature.

commit 17e897a456752ec9c2d7afb3d9baf268b442451b upstream.
With ATA devices supporting the CDL feature, using CDL requires that the
feature be enabled with a SET FEATURES command. This command is issued
as the translated command for the MODE SELECT command issued by
scsi_cdl_enable() when the user enables CDL through the device
cdl_enable sysfs attribute.
Currently, ata_mselect_control_ata_feature() always translates a MODE
SELECT command for the ATA features subpage of the control mode page to
a SET FEATURES command to enable or disable CDL based on the cdl_ctrl
field. However, there is no need to issue the SET FEATURES command if:
1) The MODE SELECT command requests disabling CDL and CDL is already
disabled.
2) The MODE SELECT command requests enabling CDL and CDL is already
enabled.
Fix ata_mselect_control_ata_feature() to issue the SET FEATURES command
only when necessary. Since enabling CDL also implies a reset of the CDL
statistics log page, avoiding useless CDL enable operations also avoids
clearing the CDL statistics log.
Also add debug messages to clearly signal when CDL is being enabled or
disabled using a SET FEATURES command.

However, the SDB FIS only has fields STATUS and ERROR.
For a successful NCQ command that has sense data, we will have a
successful sense data descriptor, in the Sense Data for Successful NCQ

Since we have access to additional taskfile result fields, fill in these
additional fields in qc->result_tf.
This matches how for failing/aborted NCQ commands, we will use e.g.
ahci_qc_fill_rtf() to fill in some fields, but then for the command that
actually caused the NCQ error, we will use ata_eh_read_log_10h(), which
provides additional fields, saving additional fields/overriding the
qc->result_tf that was fetched using ahci_qc_fill_rtf().

commit 6e74e53b34b6dec5a50e1404e2680852ec6768d2 upstream.
reveliofuzzing reported that a SCSI_IOCTL_SEND_COMMAND ioctl with out_len
set to 0xd42, SCSI command set to ATA_16 PASS-THROUGH, ATA command set to
ATA_NOP, and protocol set to ATA_PROT_PIO, can cause ata_pio_sector() to
write outside the allocated buffer, overwriting random memory.
While a ATA device is supposed to abort a ATA_NOP command, there does seem
to be a bug either in libata-sff or QEMU, where either this status is not
set, or the status is cleared before read by ata_sff_hsm_move().
Anyway, that is most likely a separate bug.
Looking at __atapi_pio_bytes(), it already has a safety check to ensure
that __atapi_pio_bytes() cannot write outside the allocated buffer.
Add a similar check to ata_pio_sector(), such that also ata_pio_sector()
cannot write outside the allocated buffer.

commit 8e59a2a5459fd9840dbe2cbde85fe154b11e1727 upstream.
When ata_qc_complete() schedules a command for EH using
ata_qc_schedule_eh(), blk_abort_request() will be called, which leads to
req->q->mq_ops->timeout() / scsi_timeout() being called.
scsi_timeout(), if the LLDD has no abort handler (libata has no abort
handler), will set host byte to DID_TIME_OUT, and then call
scsi_eh_scmd_add() to add the command to EH.
Thus, when commands first enter libata's EH strategy_handler, all the
commands that have been added to EH will have DID_TIME_OUT set.
Commit e5dd410acb34 ("ata: libata: Clear DID_TIME_OUT for ATA PT commands
with sense data") clears this bogus DID_TIME_OUT flag for all commands
that reached libata's EH strategy_handler.
libata has its own flag (AC_ERR_TIMEOUT), that it sets for commands that
have not received a completion at the time of entering EH.
ata_eh_worth_retry() has no special handling for AC_ERR_TIMEOUT, so by
default timed out commands will get flag ATA_QCFLAG_RETRY set, and will be
retried after the port has been reset (ata_eh_link_autopsy() always
triggers a port reset if any command has AC_ERR_TIMEOUT set).
For a command that has ATA_QCFLAG_RETRY set, while also having an error
flag set (e.g. AC_ERR_TIMEOUT), ata_eh_finish() will not increment
scmd->allowed, so the command will at most be retried scmd->allowed number
of times (which by default is set to 3).
However, scsi_eh_flush_done_q() will only retry commands for which
scsi_noretry_cmd() returns false.
For a command that has DID_TIME_OUT set, while also having either the
FAILFAST flag set, or the command being a passthrough command,
scsi_noretry_cmd() will return true. Thus, such a command will never be
retried.
Thus, make sure that libata sets SCSI's DID_TIME_OUT flag for commands that
actually timed out (libata's AC_ERR_TIMEOUT flag), such that timed out
commands will once again not be retried if they are also a FAILFAST or
passthrough command.

commit a38719e3157118428e34fbd45b0d0707a5877784 upstream.
A user reported that commit aa3998dbeb3a ("ata: libata-scsi: Disable scsi
device manage_system_start_stop") introduced a spin down + immediate spin
up of the disk both when entering and when resuming from hibernation.
This behavior was not there before, and causes an increased latency both
when entering and when resuming from hibernation.
Hibernation is done by three consecutive PM events, in the following order:
1) PM_EVENT_FREEZE
2) PM_EVENT_THAW
3) PM_EVENT_HIBERNATE
Commit aa3998dbeb3a ("ata: libata-scsi: Disable scsi device
manage_system_start_stop") modified ata_eh_handle_port_suspend() to call
ata_dev_power_set_standby() (which spins down the disk), for both event
PM_EVENT_FREEZE and event PM_EVENT_HIBERNATE.
Documentation/driver-api/pm/devices.rst, section "Entering Hibernation",
explicitly mentions that PM_EVENT_FREEZE does not have to be put the device
in a low-power state, and actually recommends not doing so. Thus, let's not
spin down the disk on PM_EVENT_FREEZE. (The disk will instead be spun down
during the subsequent PM_EVENT_HIBERNATE event.)
This way, PM_EVENT_FREEZE will behave as it did before commit aa3998dbeb3a
("ata: libata-scsi: Disable scsi device manage_system_start_stop"), while
PM_EVENT_HIBERNATE will continue to spin down the disk.
This will avoid the superfluous spin down + spin up when entering and
resuming from hibernation, while still making sure that the disk is spun
down before actually entering hibernation.

[ Upstream commit 24cfd86433c920188ac3f02df8aba6bc4c792f4b ]
Commits 0077a504e1a4 ("ahci: asm1166: correct count of reported ports")
and 9815e3961754 ("ahci: asm1064: correct count of reported ports")
attempted to limit the ports of the ASM1166 and ASM1064 AHCI controllers
to avoid long boot times caused by the fact that these adapters report
a port map larger than the number of physical ports. The excess ports
are "virtual" to hide port multiplier devices and probing these ports
takes time. However, these commits caused a regression for users that do
use PMP devices, as the ATA devices connected to the PMP cannot be
scanned. These commits have thus been reverted by commit 6cd8adc3e18
("ahci: asm1064: asm1166: don't limit reported ports") to allow the
discovery of devices connected through a port multiplier. But this
revert re-introduced the long boot times for users that do not use a
port multiplier setup.
This patch adds the mask_port_map ahci module parameter to allow users
to manually specify port map masks for controllers. In the case of the
ASMedia 1166 and 1064 controllers, users that do not have port
multiplier devices can mask the excess virtual ports exposed by the
controller to speedup port scanning, thus reducing boot time.
The mask_port_map parameter accepts 2 different formats:
- mask_port_map=<mask>
This applies the same mask to all AHCI controllers
present in the system. This format is convenient for small systems
that have only a single AHCI controller.
- mask_port_map=<pci_dev>=<mask>,<pci_dev>=mask,...
This applies the specified masks only to the PCI device listed. The
<pci_dev> field is a regular PCI device ID (domain:bus:dev.func).
This ID can be seen following "ahci" in the kernel messages. E.g.
for "ahci 0000:01:00.0: 2/2 ports implemented (port mask 0x3)", the
<pci_dev> field is "0000:01:00.0".
When used, the function ahci_save_initial_config() indicates that a
port map mask was applied with the message "masking port_map ...".
E.g.: without a mask:
modprobe ahci
dmesg | grep ahci
...
ahci 0000:00:17.0: AHCI vers 0001.0301, 32 command slots, 6 Gbps, SATA mode
ahci 0000:00:17.0: (0000:00:17.0) 8/8 ports implemented (port mask 0xff)
With a mask:
modprobe ahci mask_port_map=0000:00:17.0=0x1
dmesg | grep ahci
...
ahci 0000:00:17.0: masking port_map 0xff -> 0x1

Let's not use the term blacklist in the function
serverworks_osb4_filter() documentation comment and rather simply refer
to what that function looks at: the list of devices with groken UDMA5.
While at it, also constify the values of the csb_bad_ata100 array.
Of note is that all of this should probably be handled using libata
quirk mechanism but it is unclear if these UDMA5 quirks are specific
to this controller only.

commit 0e9a2990a93f27daa643b6fa73cfa47b128947a7 upstream.
When the user requests the ALL_SUB_MPAGES mode sense page,
ata_msense_control() adds the CDL_T2A_SUB_MPAGE twice instead of adding
the CDL_T2A_SUB_MPAGE and CDL_T2B_SUB_MPAGE pages information. Correct
the second call to ata_msense_control_spgt2() to report the
CDL_T2B_SUB_MPAGE page.

[ Upstream commit e5dd410acb34c7341a0a93b429dcf3dabf9e3323 ]
When ata_qc_complete() schedules a command for EH using
ata_qc_schedule_eh(), blk_abort_request() will be called, which leads to
req->q->mq_ops->timeout() / scsi_timeout() being called.
scsi_timeout(), if the LLDD has no abort handler (libata has no abort
handler), will set host byte to DID_TIME_OUT, and then call
scsi_eh_scmd_add() to add the command to EH.
Thus, when commands first enter libata's EH strategy_handler, all the
commands that have been added to EH will have DID_TIME_OUT set.
libata has its own flag (AC_ERR_TIMEOUT), that it sets for commands that
have not received a completion at the time of entering EH.
Thus, libata doesn't really care about DID_TIME_OUT at all, and currently
clears the host byte at the end of EH, in ata_scsi_qc_complete(), before
scsi_eh_finish_cmd() is called.
However, this clearing in ata_scsi_qc_complete() is currently only done
for commands that are not ATA passthrough commands.
Since the host byte is visible in the completion that we return to user
space for ATA passthrough commands, for ATA passthrough commands that got
completed via EH (commands with sense data), the user will incorrectly see:
ATA pass-through(16): transport error: Host_status=0x03 [DID_TIME_OUT]
Fix this by moving the clearing of the host byte (which is currently only
done for commands that are not ATA passthrough commands) from
ata_scsi_qc_complete() to the start of EH (regardless if the command is
ATA passthrough or not).
While at it, use the proper helper function to clear the host byte, rather
than open coding the clearing.
This will make sure that we:
-Correctly clear DID_TIME_OUT for both ATA passthrough commands and
commands that are not ATA passthrough commands.
-Do not needlessly clear the host byte for commands that did not go via EH.
ata_scsi_qc_complete() is called both for commands that are completed
normally (without going via EH), and for commands that went via EH,
however, only commands that went via EH will have DID_TIME_OUT set.

commit 284b75a3d83c7631586d98f6dede1d90f128f0db upstream.
In ata_host_alloc(), if devres_alloc() fails to allocate the device host
resource data pointer, the already allocated ata_host structure is not
freed before returning from the function. This results in a potential
memory leak.
Call kfree(host) before jumping to the error handling path to ensure
that the ata_host structure is properly freed if devres_alloc() fails.

commit fa0db8e568787c665384430eaf2221b299b85367 upstream.
This reverts commit 28ab9769117ca944cb6eb537af5599aa436287a4.
Sense data can be in either fixed format or descriptor format.
SAT-6 revision 1, "10.4.6 Control mode page", defines the D_SENSE bit:
"The SATL shall support this bit as defined in SPC-5 with the following
exception: if the D_ SENSE bit is set to zero (i.e., fixed format sense
data), then the SATL should return fixed format sense data for ATA
PASS-THROUGH commands."
The libata SATL has always kept D_SENSE set to zero by default. (It is
however possible to change the value using a MODE SELECT SG_IO command.)
Failed ATA PASS-THROUGH commands correctly respected the D_SENSE bit,
however, successful ATA PASS-THROUGH commands incorrectly returned the
sense data in descriptor format (regardless of the D_SENSE bit).
Commit 28ab9769117c ("ata: libata-scsi: Honor the D_SENSE bit for
CK_COND=1 and no error") fixed this bug for successful ATA PASS-THROUGH
commands.
However, after commit 28ab9769117c ("ata: libata-scsi: Honor the D_SENSE
bit for CK_COND=1 and no error"), there were bug reports that hdparm,
hddtemp, and udisks were no longer working as expected.
These applications incorrectly assume the returned sense data is in
descriptor format, without even looking at the RESPONSE CODE field in the
returned sense data (to see which format the returned sense data is in).
Considering that there will be broken versions of these applications around
roughly forever, we are stuck with being bug compatible with older kernels.

commit 28ab9769117ca944cb6eb537af5599aa436287a4 upstream.
SAT-5 revision 8 specification removed the text about the ANSI INCITS
431-2007 compliance which was requiring SCSI/ATA Translation (SAT) to
return descriptor format sense data for the ATA PASS-THROUGH commands
regardless of the setting of the D_SENSE bit.
Let's honor the D_SENSE bit for ATA PASS-THROUGH commands while
generating the "ATA PASS-THROUGH INFORMATION AVAILABLE" sense data.

INCITS 431-2007, SCSI/ATA Translation (SAT) return descriptor format
sense data for the ATA PASS-THROUGH commands regardless of the setting
of the D_SENSE bit.
