2009-12-16ACPI: add kernel tainting after overriding an ACPI control methodZhang Rui1-0/+1
Add kernel tainting after overriding an ACPI control method successfully. Signed-off-by: Zhang Rui <rui.zhang@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Len Brown <len.brown@intel.com>
2009-12-11ACPI: support customizing ACPI control methods at runtimeZhang Rui1-1/+82
Introduce a new debugfs I/F (/sys/kernel/debug/acpi/custom_method) for ACPI, which can be used to customize the ACPI control methods at runtime. We can use this to debug the AML code level bugs instead of overriding the whole DSDT table, without rebuilding/rebooting kernel any more. Detailed description about how to use this debugfs I/F is stated in Documentation/acpi/method-customizing.txt Signed-off-by: Zhang Rui <rui.zhang@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Len Brown <len.brown@intel.com>

2009-04-03ACPI: simplify module_param namespaceRusty Russell1-5/+0
Impact: cleanup Rather than overriding MODULE_PARAM_PREFIX, build via acpi.o so KBUILD_MODNAME is set to "acpi". This is the logical way to do it, even though acpi cannot be a module due to these config options being bool. Those parts of ACPI which can be modular are not built into the acpi "module". 2009-03-27ACPI: call acpi_debug_init() explicitly rather than as initcallBjorn Helgaas1-8/+6
This patch makes acpi_init() call acpi_debug_init() directly. Previously, both were subsys_initcalls. acpi_debug_init() must happen after acpi_init(), and it's better to call it explicitly rather than rely on link ordering. 2008-12-31ACPI: remove private acpica headers from driver filesLin Ming1-1/+0
External driver files should not include any private acpica headers. Signed-off-by: Lin Ming <ming.m.lin@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Len Brown <len.brown@intel.com>
2008-11-08ACPI: add driver component definitions to sysfs debug_layersBjorn Helgaas1-0/+15
/sys/module/acpi/parameters/debug_layers used to contain only the debug layers defined by the ACPI CA. This patch adds the additional layer definitions for ACPI drivers. Signed-off-by: Bjorn Helgaas <bjorn.helgaas@hp.com> Signed-off-by: Len Brown <len.brown@intel.com>
2008-10-23ACPICA: Remove obsolete debug levels (WARN and ERROR)Bob Moore1-2/+0
Removed ACPI_DB_WARN and ACPI_DB_ERROR. These debug levels were made obsolete by the ACPI_WARNING and ACPI_ERROR/ACPI_EXCEPTION interfaces. Also added ACPI_DB_EVENTS to correspond with the existing ACPI_LV_EVENTS. 2007-11-19ACPI: add control method tracing supportZhang Rui1-0/+57
Add debug tracing support during certain AML method execution. Four more module parameters are created under /sys/module/acpi/parameters/: trace_method_name: the AML method name that user wants to trace trace_debug_layer: the temporary debug_layer used when tracing the method. Using 0xffffffff by default if it is 0. trace_debug_level: the temporary debug_level used when tracing the method. Using 0x00ffffff by default if it is 0. trace_state: The status of the tracing feature. "enabled" means this feature is enabled and the AML method is traced every time it's executed. "1" means this feature is enabled and the AML method will only be traced during the next execution. "disabled" means this feature is disabled. Users can enable/disable this debug tracing feature by "echo string > /sys/module/acpi/parameters/trace_state". "string" should be one of "enable", "disable" and "1". http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6629 Signed-off-by: Zhang Rui <rui.zhang@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Len Brown <len.brown@intel.com>
2007-02-13ACPI: clean up ACPI_MODULE_NAME() useLen Brown1-1/+1
cosmetic only Make "module name" actually match the file name. Invoke with ';' as leaving it off confuses Lindent and gcc doesn't care. Fix indentation where Lindent did get confused. Signed-off-by: Len Brown <len.brown@intel.com>
2007-01-29ACPI: add ACPI debug attribute in sysfsZhang Rui1-5/+57
Add ACPI debug attributes in sysfs. /proc/acpi/debug_layer && debug_level are deprecated by /sys/module/acpi/parameters/debug_layer && debug_level. NOTE: The operations to them are quite the same. E.g. if you want to enable ACPI_DB_INFO, ACPI_DB_WARN, ACPI_DB_ERROR and disable the others, #echo 0x13 >/sys/module/acpi/parameters/debug_level is OK, and a boot option "acpi.debug_level = 0x13" also works. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
