2019-02-04efi/x86: Convert x86 EFI earlyprintk into generic earlycon implementationArd Biesheuvel1-240/+0
Move the x86 EFI earlyprintk implementation to a shared location under drivers/firmware and tweak it slightly so we can expose it as an earlycon implementation (which is generic) rather than earlyprintk (which is only implemented for a few architectures) This also involves switching to write-combine mappings by default (which is required on ARM since device mappings lack memory semantics, and so memcpy/memset may not be used on them), and adding support for shared memory framebuffers on cache coherent non-x86 systems (which do not tolerate mismatched attributes). Note that 32-bit ARM does not populate its struct screen_info early enough for earlycon=efifb to work, so it is disabled there. 2018-11-30x86/earlyprintk/efi: Fix infinite loop on some screen widthsYiFei Zhu1-1/+1
An affected screen resolution is 1366 x 768, which width is not divisible by 8, the default font width. On such screens, when longer lines are earlyprintk'ed, overflow-to-next-line can never trigger, due to the left-most x-coordinate of the next character always less than the screen width. Earlyprintk will infinite loop in trying to print the rest of the string but unable to, due to the line being full. This patch makes the trigger consider the right-most x-coordinate, instead of left-most, as the value to compare against the screen width threshold. 2018-09-26efi/x86: earlyprintk - Add 64bit efi fb address supportAaron Ma1-2/+6
EFI GOP uses 64-bit frame buffer address in some BIOS. Add 64bit address support in efi earlyprintk. Signed-off-by: Aaron Ma <aaron.ma@canonical.com> Signed-off-by: Ard Biesheuvel <ard.biesheuvel@linaro.org>
2016-08-03treewide: replace obsolete _refok by __refFabian Frederick1-2/+2
There was only one use of __initdata_refok and __exit_refok __init_refok was used 46 times against 82 for __ref. Those definitions are obsolete since commit 312b1485fb50 ("Introduce new section reference annotations tags: __ref, __refdata, __refconst") This patch removes the following compatibility definitions and replaces them treewide. /* compatibility defines */ #define __init_refok __ref #define __initdata_refok __refdata #define __exit_refok __ref I can also provide separate patches if necessary. (One patch per tree and check in 1 month or 2 to remove old definitions) [akpm@linux-foundation.org: coding-style fixes] Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/1466796271-3043-1-git-send-email-fabf@skynet.be Signed-off-by: Fabian Frederick <fabf@skynet.be> Cc: Ingo Molnar <mingo@redhat.com> Cc: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2014-05-03x86/efi: earlyprintk=efi,keep fixDave Young1-19/+64
earlyprintk=efi, keep will cause kernel hangs while freeing initmem like below: VFS: Mounted root (ext4 filesystem) readonly on device 254:2. devtmpfs: mounted Freeing unused kernel memory: 880K (ffffffff817d4000 - ffffffff818b0000) It is caused by efi earlyprintk use __init function which will be freed later. Such as early_efi_write is marked as __init, also it will use early_ioremap which is init function as well. To fix this issue, I added early initcall early_efi_map_fb which maps the whole efi fb for later use. OTOH, adding a wrapper function early_efi_map which calls early_ioremap before ioremap is available. With this patch applied efi boot ok with earlyprintk=efi, keep console=efi Signed-off-by: Dave Young <dyoung@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Matt Fleming <matt.fleming@intel.com>
2013-11-29x86/efi: Fix earlyprintk off-by-one bugMatt Fleming1-1/+1
Dave reported seeing the following incorrect output on his Thinkpad T420 when using earlyprintk=efi, [ 0.000000] efi: EFI v2.00 by Lenovo ACPI=0xdabfe000 ACPI 2.0=0xdabfe014 SMBIOS=0xdaa9e000 The output should be on one line, not split over two. The cause is an off-by-one error when checking that the efi_y coordinate hasn't been incremented out of bounds. 2013-10-28x86/efi: Add EFI framebuffer earlyprintk supportMatt Fleming1-0/+191
It's incredibly difficult to diagnose early EFI boot issues without special hardware because earlyprintk=vga doesn't work on EFI systems. Add support for writing to the EFI framebuffer, via earlyprintk=efi, which will actually give users a chance of providing debug output. Cc: H.
