[ upstream commit c7dfa4009965a9b2d7b329ee970eb8da0d32f0bc ] If L1 disables VMLOAD/VMSAVE intercepts, and doesn't enable Virtual VMLOAD/VMSAVE (currently not supported for the nested hypervisor), then VMLOAD/VMSAVE must operate on the L1 physical memory, which is only possible by making L0 intercept these instructions. Failure to do so allowed the nested guest to run VMLOAD/VMSAVE unintercepted, and thus read/write portions of the host physical memory. The APM states bits 63:32 are dropped for both DRs and CRs: In 64-bit mode, the operand size is fixed at 64 bits without the need for a REX prefix. In non-64-bit mode, the operand size is fixed at 32 bits and the upper 32 bits of the destination are forced to 0. The function amd_ir_set_vcpu_affinity makes use of the parameter struct amd_iommu_pi_data.prev_ga_tag to determine if it should delete struct amd_iommu_pi_data from a list when not running in AVIC mode. However, prev_ga_tag is initialized only when AVIC is enabled. The non-zero uninitialized value can cause unintended code path, which ends up making use of the struct vcpu_svm.ir_list and ir_list_lock without being initialized (since they are intended only for the AVIC case). commit 52918ed5fcf05d97d257f4131e19479da18f5d16 upstream. The KVM MMIO support uses bit 51 as the reserved bit to cause nested page faults when a guest performs MMIO. The AMD memory encryption support uses a CPUID function to define the encryption bit position. Given this, it is possible that these bits can conflict. Use svm_hardware_setup() to override the MMIO mask if memory encryption support is enabled. Various checks are performed to ensure that the mask is properly defined and rsvd_bits() is used to generate the new mask (as was done prior to the change that necessitated this patch). commit 9167ab79936206118cc60e47dcb926c3489f3bd5 upstream. VMX already does so if the host has SMEP, in order to support the combination of CR0.WP=1 and CR4.SMEP=1. However, it is perfectly safe to always do so, and in fact VMX also ends up running with EFER.NXE=1 on old processors that lack the "load EFER" controls, because it may help avoiding a slow MSR write. SVM does not have similar code, but it should since recent AMD processors do support SMEP. So this patch makes the code for the two vendors simpler and more similar, while fixing an issue with CR0.WP=1 and CR4.SMEP=1 on AMD. This should be allowed since the host physical APIC ID field in the AVIC Physical APIC table entry is an 8-bit value, and APIC ID 255 is valid in system with x2APIC enabled. Instead, do not allow VCPU load if the host APIC ID cannot be represented by an 8-bit value. Also, use the more appropriate AVIC_PHYSICAL_ID_ENTRY_HOST_PHYSICAL_ID_MASK instead of AVIC_MAX_PHYSICAL_ID_COUNT. As Oren Twaig pointed out the old discussion: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/8292231/ that the change coud potentially cause an extra IPI to be sent to the destination vcpu because the AVIC hardware already set the IRR bit before the incomplete IPI #VMEXIT with id=1 (target vcpu is not running). Since writting to ICR and ICR2 will also set the IRR. If something triggers the destination vcpu to get scheduled before the emulation finishes, then this could result in an additional IPI. Also, the issue mentioned in the commit bb218fbcfaaa was misdiagnosed. I noticed that apic test from kvm-unit-tests always hangs on my EPYC 7401P, the hanging test nmi-after-sti is trying to deliver 30000 NMIs and tracing shows that we're sometimes able to deliver a few but never all. When we're trying to inject an NMI we may fail to do so immediately for various reasons, however, we still need to inject it so enable_nmi_window() arms nmi_singlestep mode. #DB occurs as expected, but we're not checking for pending NMIs before entering the guest and unless there's a different event to process, the NMI will never get delivered. Make KVM_REQ_EVENT request on the vCPU from db_interception() to make sure pending NMIs are checked and possibly injected. to L1 [ Upstream commit 619ad846fc3452adaf71ca246c5aa711e2055398 ] kvm-unit-tests' eventinj "NMI failing on IDT" test results in NMI being delivered to the host (L1) when it's running nested. The problem seems to be: svm_complete_interrupts() raises 'nmi_injected' flag but later we decide to reflect EXIT_NPF to L1. The flag remains pending and we do NMI injection upon entry so it got delivered to L1 instead of L2. It seems that VMX code solves the same issue in prepare_vmcs12(), this was introduced with code refactoring in commit 5f3d5799974b ("KVM: nVMX: Rework event injection and recovery"). Fix this by update APIC ICR high/low registers, which also emulate sending the IPI. The consequent KVM_GET_MSRS, of course, fails. Report the MSR as unsupported to not confuse userspace. 2018-12-08svm: Add mutex_lock to protect apic_access_page_done on AMD systemsWei Wang1-8/+11

Due to it, x86_set_memory_region will fail when creating the second vcpu for a svm guest. Add a mutex_lock to serialize the accesses to apic_access_page_done. This lock is also used by vmx for the same purpose. This in effect means we should clear the X86_FEATURE_VIRT_SSBD flag so that we would prefer the SPEC_CTRL MSR. This is actually a false positive, because GIF=0 so interrupts are disabled even if IF=1; however, we can easily move the invocations of x86_virt_spec_ctrl_set_guest/host() into the interrupt disabled region to cure it, and it's a good idea to keep the GIF=0/IF=1 area as small and self-contained as possible. commit d1d93fa90f1afa926cb060b7f78ab01a65705b4d upstream In order to determine if LFENCE is a serializing instruction on AMD processors, MSR 0xc0011029 (MSR_F10H_DECFG) must be read and the state of bit 1 checked. This patch will add support to allow a guest to properly make this determination. Add the MSR feature callback operation to svm.c and add MSR 0xc0011029 to the list of MSR-based features. If LFENCE is serializing, then the feature is supported, allowing the hypervisor to set the value of the MSR that guest will see. Support is also added to write (hypervisor only) and read the MSR value for the guest. A write by the guest will result in a #GP. A read by the guest will return the value as set by the host. In this way, the support to expose the feature to the guest is controlled by the hypervisor. Also, the sibling coordination on Family 17H CPUs can only be done on the host. Extend x86_spec_ctrl_set_guest() and x86_spec_ctrl_restore_host() with an extra argument for the VIRT_SPEC_CTRL MSR. Hand in 0 from VMX and in SVM add a new virt_spec_ctrl member to the CPU data structure which is going to be used in later patches for the actual implementation. Since the kernel doesn't use IBRS, this means a value of zero is what is needed in the host. But the 336996-Speculative-Execution-Side-Channel-Mitigations.pdf refers to the other bits as reserved so the kernel should respect the boot time SPEC_CTRL value and use that. This allows to deal with future extensions to the SPEC_CTRL interface if any at all. Note: This uses wrmsrl() instead of native_wrmsl(). I does not make any difference as paravirt will over-write the callq *0xfff.. with the wrmsrl assembler code. commit 15d45071523d89b3fb7372e2135fbd72f6af9506 The Indirect Branch Predictor Barrier (IBPB) is an indirect branch control mechanism. It keeps earlier branches from influencing later ones. Unlike IBRS and STIBP, IBPB does not define a new mode of operation. It's a command that ensures predicted branch targets aren't used after the barrier. Although IBRS and IBPB are enumerated by the same CPUID enumeration, IBPB is very different. IBPB helps mitigate against three potential attacks: * Mitigate guests from being attacked by other guests. - This is addressed by issing IBPB when we do a guest switch. * Mitigate attacks from guest/ring3->host/ring3. These would require a IBPB during context switch in host, or after VMEXIT. The host process has two ways to mitigate - Either it can be compiled with retpoline - If its going through context switch, and has set !dumpable then there is a IBPB in that path. (Tim's patch: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10192871) - The case where after a VMEXIT you return back to Qemu might make Qemu attackable from guest when Qemu isn't compiled with retpoline. There are issues reported when doing IBPB on every VMEXIT that resulted in some tsc calibration woes in guest. * Mitigate guest/ring0->host/ring0 attacks. When host kernel is using retpoline it is safe against these attacks. If host kernel isn't using retpoline we might need to do a IBPB flush on every VMEXIT. Even when using retpoline for indirect calls, in certain conditions 'ret' can use the BTB on Skylake-era CPUs. There are other mitigations available like RSB stuffing/clearing. * IBPB is issued only for SVM during svm_free_vcpu(). VMX has a vmclear and SVM doesn't. If the hardware doesn't support MOVBE, but L0 sets CPUID.01H:ECX.MOVBE in L1's emulated CPUID information, then L1 is likely to pass that CPUID bit through to L2. L2 will expect MOVBE to work, but if L1 doesn't intercept #UD, then any MOVBE instruction executed in L2 will raise #UD, and the exception will be delivered in L2. Commit ac9b305caa0df6f5b75d294e4b86c1027648991e is a better and more complete version of ae1f57670703 ("KVM: nVMX: Do not emulate #UD while in guest mode"); however, neither considers the above case. 2018-02-03KVM: nVMX/nSVM: Don't intercept #UD when running L2Liran Alon1-1/+8
[ Upstream commit ac9b305caa0df6f5b75d294e4b86c1027648991e ] When running L2, #UD should be intercepted by L1 or just forwarded directly to L2. It should not reach L0 x86 emulator. Therefore, set intercept for #UD only based on L1 exception-bitmap. Also add WARN_ON_ONCE() on L0 #UD intercept handlers to make sure it is never reached while running L2. This improves commit ae1f57670703 ("KVM: nVMX: Do not emulate #UD while in guest mode") by removing an unnecessary exit from L2 to L0 on #UD when L1 doesn't intercept it. In addition, SVM L0 #UD intercept handler doesn't handle correctly the case it is raised from L2. In this case, it should forward the #UD to guest instead of x86 emulator. As done in VMX #UD intercept handler. This commit fixes this issue as-well. Do not leave any guest values in hardware GPRs after the guest GPR values are saved to the vcpu_vmx structure. This is a partial mitigation for CVE 2017-5715 and CVE 2017-5753. Specifically, it defeats the Project Zero PoC for CVE 2017-5715. Instruction emulation after trapping a #UD exception can result in an MMIO access, for example when emulating a MOVBE on a processor that doesn't support the instruction. In this case, the #UD vmexit handler must exit to user mode, but there wasn't any code to do so. Add it for both VMX and SVM. For many years some users of assigned devices have reported worse performance on AMD processors with NPT than on AMD without NPT, Intel or bare metal. The reason turned out to be that SVM is discarding the guest PAT setting and uses the default (PA0=PA4=WB, PA1=PA5=WT, PA2=PA6=UC-, PA3=UC). The guest might be using a different setting, and especially might want write combining but isn't getting it (instead getting slow UC or UC- accesses). Thanks a lot to geoff@hostfission.com for noticing the relation to the g_pat setting. The patch has been tested also by a bunch of people on VFIO users forums.
