[ Upstream commit c5f60e3f07b6609562d21efda878e83ce8860728 ] In commit 507fd01d5333 ("drivers: move the early platform device support to arch/sh") platform_match() was copied over to the sh platform_early code, accidentally including the driver_override check. This check does not make sense for platform_early, as sysfs is not even available in first place at this point in the boot process, hence remove the check. 2025-12-07arch: Add the macro COMPILE_OFFSETS to all the asm-offsets.cMenglong Dong1-0/+1
[ Upstream commit 35561bab768977c9e05f1f1a9bc00134c85f3e28 ] The include/generated/asm-offsets.h is generated in Kbuild during compiling from arch/SRCARCH/kernel/asm-offsets.c. When we want to generate another similar offset header file, circular dependency can happen. For example, we want to generate a offset file include/generated/test.h, which is included in include/sched/sched.h. If we generate asm-offsets.h first, it will fail, as include/sched/sched.h is included in asm-offsets.c and include/generated/test.h doesn't exist; If we generate test.h first, it can't success neither, as include/generated/asm-offsets.h is included by it. In x86_64, the macro COMPILE_OFFSETS is used to avoid such circular dependency. We can generate asm-offsets.h first, and if the COMPILE_OFFSETS is defined, we don't include the "generated/test.h". And we define the macro COMPILE_OFFSETS for all the asm-offsets.c for this purpose. [ Upstream commit c32969d0362a790fbc6117e0b6a737a7e510b843 ] arch/sh/Makefile defines and exports ld-bfd to be used by arch/sh/boot/compressed/Makefile and arch/sh/boot/romimage/Makefile. However some shells, including dash, will not pass through environment variables whose name includes a hyphen. Usually GNU make does not use a shell to recurse, but if e.g. $(srctree) contains '~' it will use a shell here. Other instances of this problem were previously fixed by commits 2bfbe7881ee0 "kbuild: Do not use hyphen in exported variable name" and 82977af93a0d "sh: rename suffix-y to suffix_y". Rename the variable to ld_bfd. 2024-07-05sh: rework sync_file_range ABIArnd Bergmann2-1/+13
commit 30766f1105d6d2459c3b9fe34a3e52b637a72950 upstream. The unusual function calling conventions on SuperH ended up causing sync_file_range to have the wrong argument order, with the 'flags' argument getting sorted before 'nbytes' by the compiler. In userspace, I found that musl, glibc, uclibc and strace all expect the normal calling conventions with 'nbytes' last, so changing the kernel to match them should make all of those work. In order to be able to also fix libc implementations to work with existing kernels, they need to be able to tell which ABI is used. An easy way to do this is to add yet another system call using the sync_file_range2 ABI that works the same on all architectures. Old user binaries can now work on new kernels, and new binaries can try the new sync_file_range2() to work with new kernels or fall back to the old sync_file_range() version if that doesn't exist. Fix this by reviving the EARLY_PRINTK config symbol. commit ab8aa4f0956d2e0fb8344deadb823ef743581795 upstream. When booting rts7751r2dplus_defconfig on QEMU, the system hangs due to an interrupt storm on IRQ 20. IRQ 20 aka event 0x280 is a cascaded IRL interrupt, which maps to IRQ_VOYAGER, the interrupt used by the Silicon Motion SM501 multimedia companion chip. As rts7751r2d_irq_demux() does not take into account the new virq offset, the interrupt is no longer translated, leading to an unhandled interrupt. Fix this by taking into account the virq offset when translating cascaded IRL interrupts. [ Upstream commit e82e47584847129a20b8c9f4a1dcde09374fb0e0 ] Various SoCs of the SH3, SH4 and SH4A family, which use this driver, feature a differing number of DMA channels, which can be distributed between up to two DMAC modules. The existing implementation fails to correctly accommodate for all those variations, resulting in wrong channel offset calculations and leading to kernel panics. Rewrite dma_base_addr() in order to properly calculate channel offsets in a DMAC module. [ Upstream commit a8ac2961148e8c720dc760f2e06627cd5c55a154 ] IRQ0 is no longer returned by platform_get_irq() and its ilk -- they now return -EINVAL instead. However, the kernel code supporting SH3/4-based SoCs still maps the IRQ #s starting at 0 -- modify that code to start the IRQ #s from 16 instead. The patch should mostly affect the AP-SH4A-3A/AP-SH4AD-0A boards as they indeed are using IRQ0 for the SMSC911x compatible Ethernet chip. This does the simple pattern conversion of alpha, arc, csky, hexagon, loongarch, nios2, sh, sparc32, and xtensa to the lock_mm_and_find_vma() helper. They all have the regular fault handling pattern without odd special cases. The remaining architectures all have something that keeps us from a straightforward conversion: ia64 and parisc have stacks that can grow both up as well as down (and ia64 has special address region checks). And m68k, microblaze, openrisc, sparc64, and um end up having extra rules about only expanding the stack down a limited amount below the user space stack pointer. That is something that x86 used to do too (long long ago), and it probably could just be skipped, but it still makes the conversion less than trivial. Note that this conversion was done manually and with the exception of alpha without any build testing, because I have a fairly limited cross- building environment. The cases are all simple, and I went through the changes several times, but... While the buffer size is calculated correctly, the code uses the wrong element size to allocate the buffer which results in the allocated bitmap buffer being too small. This feature is expected to still have some undiscovered false positives. It's been in -next for a full development cycle and all the reported false positives have been fixed in their respective trees. All the known-bad code patterns we could find with Coccinelle are also either fixed in their respective trees or in flight. The commit message in commit 54d9469bc515 ("fortify: Add run-time WARN for cross-field memcpy()") for the feature has extensive details, but I'll repeat here that this is a warning _only_, and is not intended to actually block overflows (yet). The many patches fixing array sizes and struct members have been landing for several years now, and we're finally able to turn this on to find any remaining stragglers. 2022-10-02kbuild: remove head-y syntaxMasahiro Yamada1-2/+0
Kbuild puts the objects listed in head-y at the head of vmlinux. Conventionally, we do this for head*.S, which contains the kernel entry point. A counter approach is to control the section order by the linker script. Actually, the code marked as __HEAD goes into the ".head.text" section, which is placed before the normal ".text" section. I do not know if both of them are needed. From the build system perspective, head-y is not mandatory. If you can achieve the proper code placement by the linker script only, it would be cleaner. I collected the current head-y objects into head-object-list.txt. It is a whitelist. My hope is it will be reduced in the long run. 2022-10-02kbuild: use obj-y instead extra-y for objects placed at the headMasahiro Yamada1-2/+2
The objects placed at the head of vmlinux need special treatments: - arch/$(SRCARCH)/Makefile adds them to head-y in order to place them before other archives in the linker command line. - arch/$(SRCARCH)/kernel/Makefile adds them to extra-y instead of obj-y to avoid them going into built-in.a. This commit gets rid of the latter. Create vmlinux.a to collect all the objects that are unconditionally linked to vmlinux. The objects listed in head-y are moved to the head of vmlinux.a by using 'ar m'. With this, arch/$(SRCARCH)/kernel/Makefile can consistently use obj-y for builtin objects. There is no *.o that is directly linked to vmlinux. Drop unneeded code in scripts/clang-tools/gen_compile_commands.py. $(AR) mPi needs 'T' to workaround the llvm-ar bug. CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO is now implicitly selected if one picks one of the explicit options that could be DEBUG_INFO_DWARF_TOOLCHAIN_DEFAULT, DEBUG_INFO_DWARF4, DEBUG_INFO_DWARF5. This was actually not what I had in mind when I suggested making it a 'choice' statement, but it's too late to change again now, and the Kconfig logic is more sensible in the new form. Change any defconfig file that had CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO enabled but did not pick DWARF4 or DWARF5 explicitly to now pick the toolchain default. Remove the CONFIG_PREEMPT_RT symbol from the ifdef around do_softirq_own_stack() and move it to Kconfig instead. Enable softirq stacks based on SOFTIRQ_ON_OWN_STACK which depends on HAVE_SOFTIRQ_ON_OWN_STACK and its default value is set to !PREEMPT_RT. This ensures that softirq stacks are not used on PREEMPT_RT and avoids a 'select' statement on an option which has a 'depends' statement. Optimize internal hw_breakpoint state if the architecture's number of breakpoint slots is constant. This avoids several kmalloc() calls and potentially unnecessary failures if the allocations fail, as well as subtly improves code generation and cache locality. The protocol is that if an architecture defines hw_breakpoint_slots via the preprocessor, it must be constant and the same for all types. The isa_dma_bridge_buggy symbol is only used for x86_32, and only x86_32 platforms or quirks ever set it. Add a new linux/isa-dma.h header that #defines isa_dma_bridge_buggy to 0 except on x86_32, where we keep it as a variable, and remove all the arch- specific definitions.
